Talking Watches With Reza Ali Rashidian

- Reza Ali Rashidian is the greatest dive watch collector in the world. Full stop. His name might not ring out like Pucci's does in the world of Daytona, or Goldberger's in, well, everything, but he's as serious as they come. He's so serious, in fact that he, along with Mr. Goldberger himself, produced the amazing book A Journey Into The Deep, which looks at the most important Rolex dive watches (available online in the HODINKEE Shop) in history. It is a staple of any serious Rolex or dive watch collectors library - but what most do not know is that Reza owns every single watch in that book. All 132 pages of it.

When I was 13, my dad gave me a beating.
BJJMark seriously thank you for the laugh .needed it
Oh man, I'm with @Mike Mejia - Literally having a good out-loud laugh to myself... Cheers.
Facts
Wow did you pass that heirloom down to your kids
@@khushique Why yes. They've all been sufficiently "hand engraved."
I sometimes wonder if Rolex takes itself as serious as watch enthousiasts do
Gosh I hope not.
Absolutely not.
@128-192 I'd like to buy one but I can get a better value in a different brand. The one I want is up 2500 over 10 years simply because they steadily raised the price of new.
I think if they did, they might fall into the trap of catering to the current wants and needs of their clients. Brands should always look ahead, beyond what people expect or desire.
It doesn’t
FINALLY a rich guy that loves vintage Rolex
Ahahahaha
Lol, and now for something completely different , definitely some cool pieces though
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol
There’s just not enough
This guys got more stock than most Rolex boutiques
Lol, he's litterally is sitting with the total Rolex steel dive watch production since '53
May I suggest he add a Rolex to his watch collection.
lmao
No no no, a Rolex.
Which one they are all so different?
Yeah he needs a James Cameron Sea Dweller to complete his collection
@@ieeeee3728 Why Iranian are dirty?
When I was 13 I was gifted a "The Rock" WWE action figure. With the permanent eyebrow and belt. There's no way anyone could smell what I was cooking. Jabroni.
My first reaction was meh. Another Hodinkee video with vintage Rolex. Then I watched it all, wowzer. What a collection, and what a fascinating guy.
100% the same. The content gets super old after a while, but this guy was really well spoken and interesting.
I'm glad he's "happy" with his collection and doesn't have a further grail. Dude's got it all. Cool that he realizes it.
PR Mallory A watch collector with no grail-watch left: what a nightmare
PR Mallory well said
The gentleman’s depth of knowledge and passion for these is remarkable. He is a worthy curator of this wonderful museum of watches and keeper of history. He is up there with the folks who collect vintage Speedmaster, Timex , Seiko’s and Soviet watches in terms of passion and knowledge for such esoteric subject matter.
Welcome to another episode of talking rolexes.
A. B. Operative word being made
Rolex is literally the most overrated brand in the history of watch. I can understand having some, but I can't understand calling yourself a "watch enthusiast" and having only rolex lmao
Imagine having a Rolex at 13.
A customer of mine who I'm doing a speedboat for popped in last week on his way back from College ! hes 18.
On his wrist he had a 2018 Rolex oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master in Rose Gold (rubber strap)!!! It stopped me in mid conversation about his boat..he said his dad gave it to him.Hes a very humble a nice chap But TBH it made me feel like crap! I work very very hard for myself ,and he has a 26k plus watch just as a gift.. it was stunning tho. Hopefully i can do the same for my son one day.
Mercedes mad you will own one, even more the time will come always be patient and always be happy with what you own, there’s always something you have that others wish they have, good luck woth what you’re doing brother
@@TheWayofGrace89 Thank you. Appreciate the kind words
@@3essaTV Thank you, I think it's because I'm hitting 40 tomorrow.. That time in my life where you question everything
I was 18 when I bought my Submariner. Saved and paid for it myself.
How is this not a 30-minute episode?
T D gotta buy that book for $800 to see them all
@128-192 do you also think seikos are better?
@128-192 Best comment ever!
@@cameronz717 do u like the herd mentality?
@@internettroll7497 nah. I do like subs though
“Whats your first watch?” This rolex.... oh for fucks sake 😂
rolex used to be way way cheaper.
@@tryitout-701 Not /that/ cheap
And he was 13...
Being 13 and being given a (in his words) a pinnacle watch is barmy. It would ruin your appreciation for anything below that for ever!
I like this guy ... I don’t know who he is ... but he seems pretty dope
more like tasteless and unoriginal
@@danielpalacios5124 how on earth did you reach that conclusion?
@@danielpalacios5124 Taste is in the eyes of the beholder. There's a reason why Rolex is so established, they make amazing watches for a very long time. You don't need to be original, let him like whatever he wants.
@@GangBlud Lol the saying is *beauty* is in the eye of the beholder. One's collective interpretations of beauty comprises their taste. You can have shit taste and still consider what you like to be beautiful but taste is for others to rate, hence phrases like "he's got good taste" or "she has a bad taste in music". Also your following sentence equally doesn't make sense...I think you meant to say Rolex *made* amazing bla bla, your current sentence basically says that it takes them a long time to make watches (which also is incorrect lol as they're notorious for their high production volume). Not sure if English isn't your native language or what, but yeah don't be basic.
@@danielpalacios5124 Taste is inherently objective. However, the difference is in comparative experiences. If one has seen 10.000 watches, that person will have a better understanding of watches and could better evaluate them. But, that does not change the fact that he thinks that it is beautiful.
I'm pretty sure that sentence does make sense though. But I should have used started a new sentence.
There's a reason why the Submariner is so popular and that thousands of other brands have copied the design of it, it's a beautiful watch. That's a fact.
This is so calming. Their voices, the music and the cinematography are just lovely.
I thought John Mayer had too many Rolexes
Dalton Woods no such a thing as too many rolexes
This made my evening..
I always get a Buzz when a notification about a new new Talking Watches pops up.
Thank you.
Finally, a Rolex collector!
Never seen that before....
LoL
Hope we'll get a vintage Patek collector soon!
That milsub is something else, one of my favorite vintage sports watches with a great story that makes it even more unique
Great episode as always
Great video Hodinkee! I'm quite sure this gentleman is grateful as well to have his collection immortalized this way by non other than Hodinkee! Great collection Reza!
AFTER BINGE WATCHING ALL OTHER EPISODES, FINALLY A NEW ONE.
Honestly we need at least an hour plus with this gentleman.
Amazing collection of vintage Rolexes, just like all the other previous episodes.
Marcello Hahahaha every episode. Abundance of Rolex’s or Pateks
A V10 all of us would buy a ton of Rolexs and pateks if we had the money
Would you like a side of Rolex with your Rolex?
Wow, what a collection, those watches are awesome, just love the drive and enthusiasm to track down each watch, all those different Pat Pending, the dial progression, superb. Thanks for sharing.
No wonder it's so difficult to buy submariner these days. He bought them all
Always love talking watches episodes
Well curated collection... he is collector and the journey for him is about knowledge.... great choice from Hodinkee to feature him... looking forward to the next Talking Watches
Listening to the excited tone of Mr Rashidian makes one take a new view of these pieces !
I love these videos. The history behind each piece & passion is inspiring!
Probably my favorite episode of talking watches. Absolute dedication to collecting 👏
Amazing as always, production quality is extraordinary. Reza is a cool gentleman with an amazing collection.
Love hearing his excitement for all of his Watches!
Ben,, you nailed it with this episode. This is the pinnacle of talking watches.
What a fabulous episode with a brilliant collector !
Knocking it out the park, as always!
This is an amazing collection. But I still can’t take my eyes of Ben’s Aquanaut. It’s just such a sleek yet blingy piece. I absolutely love it.
What a great episode...a rich collector, however, has layman’s enthusiasm about his collection: LOVE IT!!!!!
My hero, this gentleman...love vintage, love beat up divers, great video...thanks for posting this.
WOW! What a great show Ben and team. Truly loved seeing Reza's amazing Rolex collection! I just started my own RUclips channel, and you guys were my initial inspiration. In fact, it was the 2nd episode with John Mayer. Since then I think I've seen all of your shows. You are the benchmark and I'm a huge fan. Keep up the fantastic work!
He sure does!
The host communication skill is outstanding. Engaging, honest and make every guest is special
Unseen. Thank you Hodinkee.
Amazing video, loved every minute. Congratulations Mr Rashidian on your beautiful collection. Proud to be an Iranian.
I didn't know how long I've been waiting for this episode until I saw the video. Ben Clymer at the helm and and a collection that is exactly my taste. Perfect episode!!!!
I can smell where all the Subs for the Submariner Reference Points came from
What an experience to view all those lovely Subs together.
I'm impressed Reza kept his first watch. Mid 1960's I was given a youth Timex. I wish I had kept that watch.
Great video episode! What an amazing Rolex Submariner and Sea Dweller collection!
A beautiful collection, and a fascinating conversation. 10mins is not enough...
Nothing cooler, better than the extreme dive watches....love the look, the patina and the value....cant beat it
ROLEX: which rolex would you like
RASHIIDIAN: yes
First time I'm not disappointed to see a Rolex only collection, since the focus and the theme show passion and interest, not just the goal of hoarding expensive watches for expensiveness' sake.
Great video, fantastic collection and what a cool dude! So friendly and full of great personality .
Extremely diverse collection, very special. It really helped me fall asleep.
Ok, I just have to say this is simply AMAZING!
This gentleman has the most thorough Rolex watch collection I have ever seen in my life!
I'm going to locate and purchase his book. I love reading about the historical aspects of particular watch companies more so Rolex and TUDOR because WITHOUT Rolex, my favorite brand would not exist.
Fantastic video, excellent content!
Ok, that was a very good interview.
what a collection. Mind blowing, wish the vid was longer though.
His Voice is just 🔥
Ben´s face when he tries the watch is the reason Hodinkee is so great and successful!
Amazing....just amazing! Great job!
Gotta love when you see your favourite watch ever at the start of a collection video
Such a amazing if very focused collection built on a real passion. Great when Ben asked to try on the Deep Sea Special, so cool!
This is the most amazing, boring (in a good way), and beautiful watch collection that I have seen. Great video and it is nice to see that this gentleman is truly passionate about his collection.
Amazing video as always, as a dive watch enthusiast this is pure gold. By the way, we need Ben back on instagram!
These watches are so unique from each other. Look so different, different colors, materials, some with one red line text others with 2. Some with "this" written underneath the case back which others written with "that". And if I see anyone wearing any one of this watch, I would without doubt say this person is someone very important.
That first Rolex half dome is very representative of our world. ;-)
this is fucking nuts. awesome awesome collection and cool to show how on-theme a collection can be!
This, this is a collection.
A great man with an amazing dive watch collection.
Always the highest quality people and production values.
i love how passionate people get with their watches like a child showing another children their cool new toy
Amazing video!!
great collection, incredible watches. nice vid
great video ben! missing a deepsea deep blue in the collection. beside that - its perfect
Wow,his first Oyster Date look fresh out of the box. Great collection.
I love that of all of his stupendous collection his daily wearer is his Millsub. That's what I rock too. He's a man after my own heart.
Never clicked so fast!
Same here
Very informative, thanks
Thank you, these are so REAL... true, honest tool watches with history and function.
This man doesn’t have a subconscious... he has a SUBMARINAROUS.
Fascinating if slightly terrifying collection which commands respect.
Bravo.
Great episode, I love the Iranian reference.
In Iran, My dad gave me a Seiko 5 which was the coolest thing for me and
Started my love of watches.
Very nice collection. The story about the Iranian sub was very interesting and cool.
Well done hodinkee.should’ve dove into more details about some of them though
Love these talking watches. You should do one with Mike Wood.
What a great collection 😍
Bravo....thank you for a great video. Being a car guy too....I love the 911 reference.
Ah yes, the highlight of me week for watches
What a collection!
That is some collection! I think if I had that kind of money though I would have more variety from many brands and not just one! 🤓
Yes but I think this guy just buy the most difficult ones, he must have a very high reputation amongst top collectors I think 🤔 he likes competition he says.
Great video
Any of the video Ben does is very inspiring and he seems to have the most interesting guests.
I have a rare, discontinued, 2019 114060 on my wrist as I read this.
Reza, if you're reading this and spluttering out your coffee: yes, some 114060s have survived, despite all evidence to the contrary, but alas no, it's not for sale.
This guy's sounds a bit like Anton Chigurh talking about watches...
RSB call it!
Yes exactly. But he’s so cool
I agree..
I was looking for this EXACT comment.
RSB You nailed it. That’s the first thing I thought.
Splended collection.
Fantastic!
What an amazing collection
When I was 13 ... I’m still dreaming on getting my hands on submariner...
....and I wonder why I can't find a good vintage sub/seadweller... THIS DUDE HAS THEM ALL!!!!
Wow.I have worked hard and all that and love watches. Daft thing is in my 50,s and a bit now my trusty timekeeper is a Casio mrw200? Wouldn't have it any other way? Just a practical lad to the end? Cheers.
