First time I watched this the dude put me to sleep, then I tried on a Speedmaster in person. Came back to this vid and it all made sense. I’ve since bought the speedy and have seen this a dozen times. Great content
Eric, please pay no attention to what people have to say. Your expertise rings through loud and clear here. I have taken to watching this video once a month or so to keep myself educated on the long and impactful history of the Speedmaster. Thank you for taking the time to research all of these facts and keep the memories of the Speedmaster alive!
My late father bought one Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch in 78 (not sure its exact spec), he gave it to me in 2005 a few months before he passed away as a wedding gift, am still wearing it today and is so proud of it
The moon landings were faked by nasa. It's common knowledge nowadays but you might be an old guy who believes everything he's told. Research geocentricity and watch a video called 200 proofs the earth is not a spinning ball by Eric Dubay.
Hats off to Eric for being able to rattle off all those reference numbers. Good stuff guys. I've always been confused by the history of the various references of the core speedmaster line; this definitely helps!
I loved this video so much I asked my girlfriend to watch it with me. I'll give her credit: she dug in and didn't quit until the fourth mention of "dash".
Just when I thought I was learning about watches, I realize that I know nothing. Very informative! Loved this. I'd love to see more of these much more frequently!
I’ve come back to this video after first watching it years ago when it came out. Totally different perspective now that I’m more educated and can appreciate the rarity and the history of some of these models. Just like back then, though, aesthetically I prefer the older, pre-professional cases. There’s something about the slimmer lugs and no crown-guards that’s more representative of a chronograph design than the later cases.
Guest speaker is super boring but the content is phenomenal. Really enjoyed hearing about the full history. The speedie represents one of the most historical pieces but not often enough is the history behind them really surfaced.
What a watch....truer words have never been spoken...wanted one as a kid...finally got one. Now I want to get watches for important relatives. I'm set.
+logwind What you have here is one of those Speedmasters which were made in the 70's with a digital display! They're not really that collectible as most watch enthusiasts want either the original Man on the Moon Speedmasters, or the recent reduced or newer models.
+logwind What you have here is one of those Speedmasters which were made in the 70's with a digital display! They're not really that collectible as most watch enthusiasts want either the original Man on the Moon Speedmasters, or the recent reduced or newer models. Rick: So how much do you think it's worth? Omega expert: I wouldn't sell this for over 2,000. A nice vintage Speedmaster would easily go for double that.
Oh man you guys should definitely do an episode on just the collectors speedmasters. There's so many good ones. My favorite is the speedmaster rattrapante. The first split second with the troublesome history. I don't think enough credit goes to this particular watch. I firmly believe that this watch is very far ahead of its time, in fact I don't believe we've gotten that far yet. Someday the speedmaster 3540.50 will get it's credit, and it's history will turn into a positive, and hardcore omega collectors will definitely look for this watch. There pretty easy to find right now for incredible deals, easily the best deal in all of luxury watches period with a complex mechanism cheap to service. It's beautiful. People complain about the weight, but I love heavy watches, after all time should never be taken lightly.
Informative video. Thanks for sharing. The first 145022 Speedmasters with 861 movement had the metal Omega logo on the dial and 1039 bracelet. They looked like a 145012.
I am glad that I have one of the last 321 movements. I bought it new in 1969 just before Neil landed on the moon, but the watch was actually made in 1967.
John Cross does this mean my 1968 speedmaster that broke Down in 1985 and has sit in a drawer since then, might be worth repairing? I wore it accidentally in a sauna and the repairing offer was more than a new watch.
@@silvercornuto777 Well, the offer back in the 80’s was approx. $1500 so I don’t Think it is cheaper now. But I have found a repairshop that Will make an offer. If they Can do it for Les than $ 1000 I might go on. Hopes are not High though.🥲
I recently purchased my first Speedmaster Professional and couldn't be happier. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out the production date though. Watch is a 145.0022/345.0022 with bracelet 1171/633 and serial beginning with 3558. According to charts I've found online the watch was produced either 1972 or 1977. Do you know how I can verity the actual production date?
Me: Struggling to remember my phone number. This guy: one zero five zero zero two One zero five zero zero three One zero five zero one two dash six three I love it 😅
Thank you for the insight into the Speedmasters great history, I learnt a few things from it. It certainly is a watch to own and love, I have a couple, but my favorite is my '65 Ed White' ST 105-003. I could do with a service but still holds good time, to a couple of seconds a day. Not bad for a 57 year old watch?
MANY Thanks DAFFIDAVIT for your reply. I have possessed 4 Speedmasters, but i still love My Daily Ticker, the 1957 "Replica" from the" MISSIONS" Valise. As close as i can get to a CK2915-1, but still a Goodie!!!
The expert fella there, he was magnificent! All those numbers and models and oddities and never a slip up. He knew his onions and really enjoyed the fact that he did. I am even considering buying a new Speedmaster now. What’s the latest model’s numbers? Thanks for the vid as you can tell I enjoyed it.
I don't know what it is about these but the indices markers and small bracelet links don't seem like they "line up" to me.. the way the hour markers are sunk between two planes make it look misaligned to me at certain angles.. the same with the small polished links.. they look offset to me... am i imagining this or is like optical allusion? contrast this with a dial that has a metal plane and applied markers with 3 link bracelet.. there's nowhere that lines don't "match up"... I want to love this but I need help with my ocd!
I have to agree with what they say at the end. I have my speed master professional for 26 years now and don't even think about getting a new watch. I'm done with mine! Great reliable watch.
speed master got 1 problem. the chrono cannot reset to zero. even quartz chrono have this problem but for quartz there is a procedure to reset to zero unlike automatic you have to send to shop to reset. good watch?
The people complaining about our guest's monotone need to ask themselves if this is the video for them. The same people exist in every hobby I've been involved in - absolute fanatics for part numbers and minutiae - and this would be no more entertaining if he was talking vintage musclecars or porn magazines ;)
So Happy with my... Corgeut Moonwatch 😉...looks great maybe some day I will feel comfortable buying the real thing. And I like the voice and the way the guy explain, not complaining.
I recently bought the 3861 Speedy Pro. While I find the history fascinating my preference is for the newest innovations. Co-axial escapement, silicon hairspring etc. I also bought the blue face/red hand ‘57. Now that watch is a stunner with an arguably better movement than the 3861, though an automatic. My favourite of the two is definitely the 57. This is one very nice watch.
Nice knowledge but where is the reduced version? I mean the name of the video says „entire lineage“ but I didn‘t see at least one reduced version here or have I missed something? I think after the moon version, reduced is the second popular version of the speedmaster line.
This was a Pro only vid Mark 2, Reduced, racing, date, triple date, moonphase, co-ax and the 356838 limited editions of the Pro aren't part of this discussion or lineage. (I have and love the Reduced, so no hate, but in the context of this vid I understand why it, and others, are not included.)
I bought a modern Speedmaster a few years back and for some reason I didn't appreciate the watch. I eventually sold it off for modern pieces. That is one of the gems of great watches... Amazing - I hope you will continue to love it
Dont ever let it go, no matter what happens.. pass it down to your own child in the future
Mr 5 Seek psychiatric help....and do NOT reproduce.
Hats off to Eric for being able to rattle off all those reference numbers. Good stuff guys. I've always been confused by the history of the various references of the core speedmaster line; this definitely helps!
Eric is amazing, like the Rainman of Omega reference numbers.
I love Hodinkee but, no joke, that guy literally put me to sleep. Like, I actually fell asleep, woke up, and the video was still playing.
The Watch Mister I
The Watch Mister I know that it's an old comment, but you're right, I also fell asleep watching this video
I kinda liked him. I get tired of everyone pretending to be dynamic and gregarious on camera. He was himself, and that was refreshing to me.
Mann it happened to me just now!
Me too lol
I loved this video so much I asked my girlfriend to watch it with me.
I'll give her credit: she dug in and didn't quit until the fourth mention of "dash".
I played this to my daughter so she could go to sleep. It worked.
omg! i'm thinking the same thing 20 seconds into this "video" HILARIOUS!!!
I fell asleep as well
I imagined “rock a bye baby” music playing 😂
😂😂😂😂
I did the same to my wife
Just when I thought I was learning about watches, I realize that I know nothing. Very informative! Loved this. I'd love to see more of these much more frequently!
When you speak in 8-bit.
Eric and Ben great job , Love the history of these watches, So very collectable today and will keep appreciateing in value. Love the 2915
Ben sums up the Speedmaster perfectly. Great watch that is at home in any collector's gathering.
Best watch video ever! I've watched it a dozen times. Thanks for sharing Eric and Ben!
they totally geeked the shit outta this. I love it. This is true passion. Enthusiasts omega videos are always welcome in my feed. Thank you Hodinkee!
Great video! Whole history of Speedmaster in 10 min. Thank You!
Great watch, always makes you smile and make you stare at it.. unbelievable...
If an eggplant could talk, it'll sound like this guy.
Did he do the voice for "Hal" in 2001 A Space Odyssey?" He seems too young.
Jon Ultime ni
hahahahhaaaa !!!!!!!!!! cmon man !!!! dont be so hone**** i mean Dbag !
Imagine his wife telling him to, say her name during sex when she spanks him? Or he could make cartoon voices.
I saw this comment right when the video started... i said to myself, oh yeah! It’s an Eric Wind video!
I love this guy. Great knowledge.
I can
listen to these two talk all day !!
Damn... that voice.. Computer like to help you sleep.
haha in fact
Unfortunately we watch geeks are not particularly exciting people :(
Ugh, I wanted to comment on the monotone voice
8 bit microphone on him, its not his real voice fyi
Yes it is, I know him in real life
I love Mr. Wind such a legend in the vintage watch world.
Impressive knowledge on Omega Speedmaster.
Great video. It’s exactly what I was searching for.
He's not dry, he's smart and knows his stuff probably better than the best of them.
Great tribute to a great time piece. I proudly own a light blue version that I cherish as one of my favourites in my collection

Is this the guy Pawn stars calls when they get an omega in the shop hahahah
+treblarefils Let me bring my buddy in who knows these...

Yes that was the transitional model 145022-68 which was not mentioned in this video
This the man who does Cleveland's voice on Family Guy?
Wow knows his Speedmasters! Lots of good information in this video.
5 years later, I'm still watching this video to help me fell asleep
just picked up mine yesterday....loving the winding
And here I am, struggling and making math to buy a speedy reduced, the poor brother from the line up. This vid is both pleasure and torture
4 years later and I’m doing the same thing haha
I wonder what these two think of the co-axial Speedmasters....
The MK2 best Speedmaster made!
Well despite the comments, I found this utterly fascinating. I could hear people talking about their passion 24/7. That's why I love Tim Mosso so much
Speedmaster > Daytona
What are you smoking?
Agreed. The Speedmaster went to the moon. The Daytona? Well, Paul Newman wore it I guess...
As much as I love Paul, he did not do what NASA achieved. Speedmaster wins.
Design wise Speedmaster. Prestige wise Daytona.
My only problem with the speedmaster is the case/lugs, daytona looks better in that aspect, everything else the speedmaster wins
Superb video!!!!!!!
God bless the Speedy....
I’m glad they made so many, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to afford one

Do you have a similar video on the Omega Seamaster Lineage?
Thank you for the insight into the Speedmasters great history, I learnt a few things from it.

I liked the details in this video.
I know I had no part in this but I have been requesting this reference points for a year

before i watch it im gonna say i love it!!
love the speedmaster

Great info though 👍🏾
When two geeks come together. Watch history. Good stuff
Awesome vid, thanks for this.
My Reduced should be here by the end of the week and I'm so damn pumped to get it on my wrist!
And yes. They are real Speedmasters :)
what watch is Ben wearing?
Had the best night of sleep ever after listening to Brick talk about these watches. Glad to see he is finding work now that The Middle is off the air.

more videos like this ! plzzzz
Would've been cool to see one on a 1450 bracelet. Nice overview though.
I woke up. Got this recommended by YT. Sleepy time again Woo!
Imagine dedicating your life to a watch company (or any company really) and you don't even work for them.
U can say that about anything that ppl are fans of.
I just would look to see the expert talk on the mark series of the speed aster

fyhfb ass indeed but they have to change the title of the video :)
Love a nice beat up (well worn) Speedmaster!
Great vid Can you do another one with Nautilus plse?
someone give this guy a bag of life
Is the 40 mm version relevant in the history of the watch? Because on my understanding the Speedmaster Racing was the one used by rally drivers
Hodinkee, what watch were you wearing?
Can someone please help me!
What exact reference Speedmaster did Jack Swigert use to time the 14 sec burn? 321? 861? Thanks.
I inherited a speedmaster from my grandfather recently. Where do I begin with the watch?. It looks to be the second from the last in the video.
The Guy has an ultimate speedmaster collection. I don’t even dare to think about their prices.
I wish I had heard more about the caseback design(s) over time. Mine has a pretty elegant engraved caseback. Not sure how common that was/is?
That started around 70-71. They said specifically, but the back has been the same for 40+ years now.
Recommended Bought mine in 78, so that timeline fits, thanks!
No mention of the Rodania Geometer?
This guy lives inside the 321,861 and 1861s
Theses are a pease of art .
Brilliant thanks for sharing!
A vintage Speedy caliber .861 with the President Bracelet... so damn awesome!
I bought a modern Speedmaster a few years back and for some reason I didn't appreciate the watch. I eventually sold it off for modern pieces.
