I really need your lapping machine. If you use ceramic grit abrasives you will find it removes stock much faster than anything else and is superb on stainless. You do really good work and given I am in engineering and we do precision surface grinding, all this case work I would love to have a go at but we dont have suitable machinery. Those lapping machine setups are really expensive for what they are which is a real shame.

@Vintwatches I did have questions about removing his father's name though. If it were my dad's watch, I think I would have liked to try to find some way to keep that engraving.
Remarkable work! I am a little surprised that the client wanted the engraving removed. As unsightly as it was, it’s still part of the history of the watch. Especially if his father did the poor job of engraving.
@Vintwatches sure, and I get removing the one on the case itself, but keeping the one on the back would've been an easy way to preserve history. Ultimately it's the client's choice on the work, I just feel like it's unfortunate.

This process is amazing. I don't want to be rude, but "for me" you remove all memories. Cleaning, changed seals will be perfect. I think every scratch has a memory.
I wondered how you were going to repair that unsightly engraving- I’d never seen that welding done before. The grinding looked really aggressive but produced excellent results. The brushed and polished surfaces are all beautiful. I like the way those pusher tubes screw in. The case construction on this model is more complicated than I realised. I bet the customer was delighted to get his Speedmaster back like this. AND he can watch it all on here

Stunning eye for detail, excellent work ,most people would have condemned the case and put a new one on it .I took my omega seamaster to a big watch retailer for repair it took them 4 attempts to get it right and ended up recasing it because the damaged it more than I had.Great work wish it had been sent to you at the time
In most wath restoration vlogs i am so enamored on how you replenish a beat up watch. I believe that segment is more difficult than what is inside the watch
Amazing restoration. The amount of detail that have put through the whole process is applaudable 👏. This watch would get through the next 50 years very easily if worn carefully.
Your ability in this craft is the perfect blend of technical and artistic skill. Without the right tools and tech know-how, it would have been nearly impossible; without your craftsmanship and artistic skill all the tools in the world would have been useless. The technical difficulties of the restoration really help to understand why an Omega watch and specially the Speedsmaster is worth what it's worth. That said, if it had been my father's watch I would have cleaned it a bit, maybe replaced the bracelet which is always the weakest spot, and left it as it was.
Nice story and restoration. As a vintage Rolex - Tudor collector I must say the overly complicated construction of this Omega Speedmaster perplexes me when compared to the Rolex Daytona or Tudor Chronograph. The double cage case construction yet no screw down crown or pushes for water resistance.
@@Vintwatches I'm currently on the hunt for a vintage Rolex 5513 1962 - 1963 pointed crown guard and the amount of frankin Vietnam case built watches are shocking. It's a mine field with vintage Rolex to avoid being screwed as the $500 Vietnam cases are scary close and I have some background in authenticating them. Deceivers take this case and combine it with a 1520 movement out of a Air King 5500 and then bake the fake dial in an oven to faux age it. The scary thing is they go for around 10k so the potential to get screwed is high with vintage. I had one seller today who was hones about it and still wanted $6k saying even with parts it's still less expensive than an original. I think I'm just about ready to give up on owning a pointed crown guard sub or settle on the possibility of likely getting screwed.
