    Ugh, you make me feel old... 🙂 To say that you've never heard of Bob Seger, to me, is like saying that you've never heard of Beethoven. This song came out in the 1976 and was all over the radio. It probably is on the sound track of multiple movies but, it was never featured. His song Turn The Page, from '73 is an iconic and amazing song by him. Great reaction. Thanks!

    Drives ins were the big dating opportunity for many teens in small towns. He was not talking about an abandoned theater, as he was wanting to make some drive in news. The movies themselves were so lousy that they were an afterthought, and the indestructible speakers in the window felt like 20lbs. The video was merely representative of the times.

    Nostalgia comes from the greek nostos (return) and algos (pain). It is the pain or suffering that comes from wanting to return home. He is remembering the past and this girl he claims he had no love for ("we weren't in love -- oh no, far from it"). It was summertime, the summer of his youth. They spend the summer together "practicing" their "night moves," but go their own ways at the end.
    The "thunder" was the protagonist as an adult ("with autumn closing in") remembering this time, and realizing how much he really felt for the girl. All he has now is this pain of remembrance.
    The song is so beautifully written and performed, and it has brought tears to my eyes upon hearing it since 1976.

  • @williamhamilton6643

    All of his songs tell a story, and it's usually one most of us can relate to. He's authentic and sings from the heart about life experiences and feelings we all have. He's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for a reason. I saw him in concert in Detroit in the early '80s and it was awesome start to finish. As someone said below, he doesn't have a bad song, so you can't go wrong. But if you're looking for others to review I've always liked "Roll Me Away" and "Hollywood Nights."

    Not from a film, and from the mid 1970s, not the 90s. Much of Bob Seger's music is nostalgic in nature. Heck, he's been making me feel nostalgic since I was about 17 -far too young to feel nostalgic and nearly 50 years ago. He just has had a magic way of passing along the nostalgia for the lives he remembers, and allowing us to share in those feelings, and insert our own memories into the feelings.

    Love the song (1976) and hate the video (1994). The song perfectly engages our memories. And it is doubtful that any video can compete with ones memories. This video seems to be mainly nostalgia for drive-in movie theaters: sneaking in, flirting, sex in cars. It’s Weekend at Porky’s meets Friends. There is no sense of years passing, perspective changing, the bittersweet remembering. Maybe the clips of Bob playing the guitar were supposed to.

    this song was done in 1976 but the video was not done until the 1990s due to such a high demand for one. Bob wrote this song about young love and experiencing sexual freedom for the first time. looking back on the days gone by. Life is bitter sweet and you can't go back, so live in the moment, put the phones down and live in that moment. we don't have to film everything, because when you do you only see in through a screen shot and don't actually live it

    • @flowersafterrainfall
      @flowersafterrainfall  4 месяца назад

      I understand where you're coming from, but some of the best memories were ones I get to watch over and over again because I recorded them with my phone and kept them in my personal archive.
      and looking back, I have very few pictures or videos of my childhood because my family never cared to keep those types of memories for me, and so I don't remember much of my life before I was an adult. everything before the age of 16 was a blur, and that's the age when I started taking my own pictures and archiving my own memories, without my family's help.
      I think archiving memories through a "screen" can be beneficial when used properly, and choosing not to do so can leave holes and missing pieces in one's memories while trying to reminisce on good times.

    Night Moves was a big hit for Seger in 1976. If it has been used in films, they were all well after that. Seger is one of the greatest songwriters in rock history (IMO). Great voice & most of his songs tell a story. (Like a Rock, Still the Same, We've Got Tonight, Hollywood Nights, Against the Wind, Her Strut, Katmandu, Mainstreet, Rock and Roll Never Forgets...and Turn the Page... which has been covered many times)

      Or roll me away, main street, turn the page. I first listened to Bob in 1976 as a young 14 year old. How time flys.

    Pick any one of the songs recommended below and give it a listen. You'll like it. Pick a 2nd one and you'll like it too. But probably for a different reason.

    As others have mentioned, "Turn the Page" would be a great one to do next. You might even want to make a double reaction with Metallica's cover of it which is even sadder, the music video I'm speaking of here.

    These songs came out long before videos were a thing. Much better to let your own mind visualize the story...
