Bob doesn't have a bad song.
It's really true! Remarkable!
Not even close to a bad song.
And he wrote them all.
Bob's worst song is better than 95% of any song being released today.
Just told my wife today every song was a hit
Seger is a rare breed. A truly great storyteller with a unique voice.
Bob has the uncanny ability to make nostalgic music...even if you didn't live it, when he sings about it, you feel like you did.
well said :)
@@rosalieelliottofficial This song came out when I was 22, so while I could relate to the sentiment, I live it now. Except it's 40 years now...where'd they go? :D
His "Old Time Rock and Roll" is one of these type of songs, as is "Main Street," "Night Moves"...there are many others. He just pulls at the heart strings and is quite the lyricist. He can get funky now and then, too.
He really is an institution, and I grew up with a record of his from his strugglin' days in the late 60s when his band was called The Bob Seger System called "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man." That's ore of a funky one, and he even employs that term in the song. ha!
Yes that what I was trying to put my thumb on thank you! His voice alone makes you feel deeply.
@@charliemac64 I just turned 40 a couple months ago and the first thing I said to my parents was the 20 years line, lol. Now I genuinely understand what that means. Crazy how fast time does go by. I am forever thankful they turned me on to awesome music.
I'm 74 it's great to see the younger generation react to Bob Seager
I'm 71
One of my favorite lines from Bob Seger - "I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then" Genius...
I read somewhere once where he actually hated that line and was going to change it but his producer or someone talked him into leaving it. One of the greatest lines ever, I agree.
He didn't come up with that line been around for a long time.
Me too brilliant and so true
"Mediocrity's easy, the good things take time and the great need commitment, right down the line."
Bob is the king of musical nostalgia. What's amazing is I grew up listening to his songs and never paid much attention to them. Then, on a fresh listen to Night Moves (in another reaction video) at age 53 it hit me like a ton of bricks. That bittersweet pain you feel when you recognize that there's more years behind you than ahead of you, reflecting on you youth and realizing you didn't fully appreciate it at the time. The phrase "youth is wasted on the young" comes to mind.
This man is an American treasure. Songwriting, composition, one of the best backing bands ever, performance. I don't think we'll see his likes again.
So many other great songs including
Night moves
Feel like a number
Fire inside
Against the wind
Roll me away
Travelin man
Beautiful loser
Hollywood nights
Gotta throw in We've Got Tonight
The fire inside is another one of those lyrically brilliant songs. They are SOOO true... He may as well have been talking about ME at one time.
Ramblin' Gamblin' Man is another top song. You simply cannot sit still while it's playing!
Turn The Page.
Still The Same
Main Street
Katmandu
Get Out Of Denver
Sunspot Baby
Since Bob Seger and Silver bullet band did the live concert live bullet Album, there was NO backup band that could Hola Candle to THEM ! Or cover band for that Matter!
Bob Seger is one of the very few artists that Robert Plant (singer from Led Zeppelin) mentioned as someone he listened to and waits for new music from. Bob Seger has dozens of phenomenal songs and is one of America's best storytellers. I am 56 and my mom introduced me to Bob Seger, among many others.
If NIGHT MOVES doesn't move you to tears, nothing ever will. And every 10 years, the tears will increase and the sobs will be more wrenching.
Night Moves means one thing when you are 20 and it isn't until you are 50+ you really get it.
@@ironwolfgaming9632 Amen!
You have to listen to Night Moves, all time great. Yes Bob is one of my all time favorites and I would also say, arguably, the greatest American song writer (in both Hall of Fames). You’ve opened Pandora’s box good luck.😅
@@ironwolfgaming9632 I'm 58 years old now. Starting to feel like autumn is closing in. But the crazy part is, when I was younger I absolutely loved everything about summer: the long days, that heat and humidity, the beaches, lakes, rivers and pools, etc. But now at 58 and living in New England, I think autumn is now my favorite time of year.
gotta agree, but turn the page does it for me
‘Turn the Page” got him 8 minute standing ovations in the two of his concerts I got to see….
Bob Seger's song "Against The Wind" has, in my opinion, one of the greatest lyrics of all time: "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then". Everybody over the age of 50 knows exactly what that lyric means as they reminisce about their lives when they were much younger.
Totally agree! Against The Wind is one of my favorite all time songs, not just of Bob's, but all of my old rock favorites. His lyrics are just the best.
You are totally right about that phrase.
Bob plucked your very soul with his voice and lyrics. You should VERY MUCH listen to "Roll Me Away". That song cuts to the very core every time.
I highly recommend watching "Turn the Page" from Live Bullet, too. It's a song about life on the road.
Bob's voice is what makes these songs so special I've seen Seen him live 8 times a great entertainer ❤❤
As a native Detroiter who recently turned 59, Bob Seger represents a large portion of the soundtrack of my life, especially my youth. It is completely impossible for me to separate how I felt about his music then and now. You might be surprised to learn that he was reflecting on the same things as this song spoke of even in the '70's...consider the song "Night Moves" as an example of this. You might also find the song "Turn the Page" interesting from the psychological perspective...the song speaks of life on the road for a musician.
Fo me, Bob Seger represented god times, and personified all my dreams as someone who wanted to be a musician and songwriter. I appreciate him even more now, having achieved some of those dreams and being able to understand his greatness even more.
God bless!!
Same here. And I'm 73. He used to play Teen Night Clubs, when I was in high school, as Bob Seger and the Last Heard. First radio hit was " East Side Story" in 1966.
@@ramblerdave1339 I'm 66, raised on the east side of Detroit (Gratiot & E. Grand Blvd. neighborhood). The first song I remember from Brother Bob would be 'Heavy Music'. Stations like WKNR ('Keener 13') played it a ton, but Windsor, Ont.'s CKLW ('The Big 8') pushed that song *hard*.
From the psychological standpoint, she might also like The Ring, Somewhere Tonight, The Famous Final Scene and The Fire Inside.
I forgot Roll Me Away, actually my personal favorite Seger song.
"Shame On The Moon"
This song is, at its core, an anthem for what all good men strive to be. Strong as a rock. The rock ignores all the chaos and nonsense around it, and just does what it does, stay strong.
The older you get, the more powerful this song becomes.
Absolutely.
I've always been a metal head and metal musician, but Bob is one of my top five favorites of all time. He is just too damn good. Huge catalog and not a bad track.
Song holds even more meaning when you are 73 (like me) and thinking back to when you felt "like a rock".
66 and feel your pain Bubba.
or 75 like me. My rocks have turned to pebbles. :)
I'm not far behind you. My body may not be a rock anymore, but I've made damn sure my mind still is, and for me that's what part of this song is about. "Be true to thineself," etc. Bob Seger is part of the soundtrack of my life, even before my teens in the early 70's, thanks to my older brother who led me into all those classic rock greats from that era. And I'll always be grateful that he was into prog rock, which naturally flowed down to me. Yes, Floyd, King Crimson, ELP, Peter Gabriel's Genesis, among others. As thanks for his influence, I got him front row tickets for Yes in 1997, almost 30 years after I heard for the first time "Yours Is No Disgrace."
@@adam.4487 "My get up and go must have got up and went."
- Steven Tyler
58, I still feel like a rock, just the one kept by the door in case it needs propped open 😂
Love this song! Of course, I've had to change "20 years now, where'd they go?" to 40 yrs. Still have no idea where they went.
Yay!! One of my favorite artists!! Against the Wind is definitely one of my favorites. But you really can't go wrong with Bob Seger. Highly underrated! Welcome to the Classic Rock Club. 😁♥️🤘🔥
Young lady... you have 30 years of the best music ever made, starting with the 60's and into the 90's, with musicians of enormous talent who were products of the age of the time. Bob Seger was one, Ramblin' Gamblin' man was one of his earliest songs and really shows off the power of his voice. Some classic rock bands that will open a new world for you: Led Zeppelin, Boston, The Eagles, Queen, Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Eric Clapton, Cream, Crosby-Stills-Nash and Young, Rush, Styx, Johnny Nash, and too many more to list.
Ahh you are going to love Bob. He is one of a kind!
The older you get. The more it means! Take it with you!
Bob Seger ("Sea Ger") is one of the all time Singer/ Songwriter/ Storytellers. I was 33 when this was released. I feel the same as I did then, nostalgic, but didn't realize how much more it was going to apply today at 70. Check out... "Main Street" "Turn the page" "Old time Rock and Roll" " Against The Wind" "We've got tonight" "Nutbush City Limits" Loved your reaction Rosalie and I love your Interpretations of the music you're listening to!
Don't forget 'Her Strut', 'Roll Me Away Tonight', and 'Come To Papa'.
All the songs mentioned are on my play list I was sitting and thinking back maybe 40 + years when I first saw him and today many of his song have even a bigger impact than they did then.
Dont forget "Rosalie"!
Thank you . I am 65 years old , and have had some life changing losses in the past few years . I am sitting here shedding some tears . In a body that has failed me in many ways. Encapsulated in this body, still , is that young woman . Which Sometimes surprises me . Music has been , and will always be one of those things that connects me to who I am , who I have been , and who I might be .❤ Thinking about that open road ❤
Whenever I someone say the boss Seger is the first and only one who comes to mind, not that other guy.
40 years on, Bob still makes goosebumps. Band leave s lot of room for each other.
I hope you go down rhe Bob Segar rabbit hole! You will not be disappointed!
Having lived in the Detroit area from 1974-1984 I can tell you Bob Seger was immensely popular and filled the airwaves. I had the true pleasure of seeing him in concert either in 1982 or 1983 and it was start to finish great songs and equally great performances. I think one of the reasons he isn't more widely known is he's too authentic to pursue the celebrity life and play that game. His songs come from the soul and are grounded in life experience. He reflects his Midwestern roots in that regard. There are at least a dozen great songs you should check out. I've always liked "Roll Me Away" and "Hollywood Nights", probably because my life followed the song- a midwesterner that moved to LA and the feeling of being in over your head. True talent knows no age limit some I'm glad you are open to musical experiences from another generation.
In the very early 70's , Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band were part of a free concert in Boca Raton, FL. I listened to a number of regional bands until Bob came on stage. My jaw dropped and I said, "Why is he playing a free community concert." He was so much better than the others.
He's a legendary artist. Songwriter and singer. He's the music of my youth. Thanks for your reaction. You will be amazed at his catalog.
74 now; remember going to record stores every weekend during the 60's, 70's, and being inundated with all new albums full of amazing songs from dozens of new highly talented artists and groups virtually every week.
Buy 2 or 3 albums every week, listen once, through the next one on the turntable, then the next, then repeat that exercise over again every week. (Looking back, it was an amazing period of time to have experienced but didn't realize that at that time).
And now you'll be remembered forever in history as this group of kids that did what you shared and then became a generation of immense importance to the human experience. I'm not much younger and I did pretty much the same thing starting with 45's first. What a magnificent time it was.
I was 38 when I first heard this song and am now 70. The big difference is back in 1986 it was all about the music, and today it is more about the meaning of the words . This is similar in style to "Night Moves". Seger wrote the song as a coming of age tale about adolescent love and adult memory of it.
Agree!! I'm 70 & his singing & songs still give me goosebumps & tears... passion!.... my husband loved Bob!! We danced to this under the stars & sang along with the wind in our hair!! ❤️❤️🥲😊
I love Bob Seger. He is so, so good! He has a lot of great songs for you to explore, Rosalie.
I'll never forget 45 years ago going to a Bachman Turner Overdrive concert in Vancouver. The first band was some guy named Bob Segar. No one had heard of him. All there was was a piano and some kid playing... He played this song solo on the piano.....
Let's just say he brought the house down. He played for an hour and a half and literally his first album he was touring for blew out of the record store the next day. He became one of the greatest balads writers of our generation. To this day, he is legend.
Him and his piano and that voice....Magic
Oh and BTO played for 4 hours. Greatest concert of 100s I've seen.
This is fabulous, thank you for sharing your experience. Historic, what a memory!
His first album was 1969,
He didn't tour in 1979, and this song wasn't released until 1986.
@@Kevin-i6t5i Sorry pal. That song sat in his repertoire for many years before it was released. It was remastered with his band. He played it on his piano. He had no band. Only himself. He started touring with his band but he did several gigs with bands. He played that BTO concert so I don't know what your thinking.
@@mogulrider what I was referring to that 1979 wasn't his first album.
@@mogulrider I just meant you had the year wrong, he only did 2 concerts in 79 one in Oregon and one in Louisiana, blue oyster cult in Oregon and Styx in Louisiana,
Man I do good to remember what I did last week.
You will never find a more talented human being on the planet.
Bob always can be counted on for great production. Clean as hell
"This song is absolutely BEAUTIFUL in regards to, psychologically...what life is about!"
You don't know it (yet) but you just described most of his huge catalog of songs. His ability to paint a scene and put you right there with him, evoking feelings which resonate with everyone, is unmatched.
It warms my heart to hear People appreciate Bob Seger!
Love the man. What a voice and what a storyteller. I consider him the king of nostalgia. I remember seeing him live one summer back in the early 80s. I don't think he quite has the discography depth to be considered one of the greatest, but damn he is good. An American great.
"we don't know what we don't know" - one of my favorite Bob Seger lyrics is "wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then". 😷 Peace.
wait til you listen to Night Moves - you'll become a lifelong fan - talk about season of life!
Welcome to the wonderful, gritty, happy, sad, emotional rock and roll joyride that is Bob Seger's voice. I've been listening to his music since I was a teenager, and I'm 62 now. The man absolutely doesn't have a bad song.
Amen! I'm just 2 years in front of you and Bob has always been a part of my ride. Can't imagine having a collection of music most important to me and not have Bob in it.
Bob Seger's music just gets better & better. The older I get, the more relatable I find the lyrics. At the same time, whenever I listen to his music, I feel 18 & invincible, even though I'm heading towards my 60's.
In my book this is one of greatest songs ever! Is's Bob See-Ger! And that guitar is unreal.
You have so much to hear. I'm old. I grew up with the greatest music ever. Glad to see you discover it!
He never missed, Bob Seger is a legend, keep checking him out
Great reaction.
One doesn't listen to a Bob Seger song, one feels a Bob Seger song. If it doesn't make you reflect on your life, then you weren't really paying attention.
Wait'll you hear "Night Moves" "Against The Wind" and "Turn The Page" which are also life/nostalgia songs.
As for how I felt when his music first came out, the music got you moving and sounded great. The lyrics on the nostalgia songs like "Like a Rock", don't really hit you with the same power until you get older. The older you get, the more the lyrics resonate with you. Lyrics like "20 years ago. Where'd they go?" don't mean much to a 22yr old, but it does to a 40yr old and even more to a 60yr old.
Bob is a treasure trove of music. "Turn the Page" is a good tune as well as many others he wrote. He expresses emotion and angst like few other singers.
I was raised on Bob Segar. Anything off Against The Wind takes me straight back to riding in the car with my dad at 8 or nine years old.
Chevrolet used Bob’s song for nearly 20 years in commercials for Chevy trucks. They sold hundreds of thousands of trucks. Bob is the real deal. You will want to react to Hollywood Nights, Roll Me Away, Against the Wind, etc etc etc. He had so many great hits. Thanks for your reaction. 👏👏👏🥰
Your next listen of Bob Seger I would recommend "Turn The Page"
This song is for all generations. We all will or have gone through this. Absolutely amazing song. Thank you Bob Seger
Check out "Turn the Page". I think it's a much better example of a song with emotion and story.
Bob, American. Songwriter. And The Soundtrack of a generation.
Bob is one of the great storytellers and vocalists.... he is about as genuine as it is possible to be.
Night Moves
Against The Wind
Roll Me Away
Famous Final Scene
Tons of classics
Rosalie
Until few years ago, Bob Seger completed his farewell tour after long career in music. His live performances are legendary! During his last tour, one of his buddies, fellow Michigander, Don Brewer of Grand Funk Railroad played drums. 50+years of Bob Seger's music!
It’s all about the feeling of nostalgia and love and strength and time. It’s all the important stuff. And it’s put to a great rock ‘n’ roll song. The man is an amazing storyteller you talk about people like Bob Seger and Johnny Cash when you talk about storytellers. Gordon Lightfoot.
Thank you for covering this and your comments.
Love his song "Roll Me Away"
Yes
His music is a rabbit hole that you won't regret charging deeper into
As any person gains the perspective that only decades can give, songs like this take on more weight.
Bob Seger is most of the things you didn’t even know you were missing in your life. It’s undeniable when you finally hear it and it’s never too late to start listening.
What this song means to me is having strong values and staying true to them. Times change, and people change, but I still have my strong values and I will stick by them and be true to myself through it all, no matter what. Like a rock.
Bob Segar was the GOAT!!!! His voice was the best!!!!!
What it meant for me when I was a kid was family. My uncles and my pops played Seger all the time. There was something about that VOICE echoing in the cold air at night in the woods while camping.
Today that same voice tells the stories of me and my youth. So many lines and songs take me back when times aren’t so different because as a youth we all do and did pretty much the same thing, songs like this are full of nostalgia. Nothing better!
One of the greatest reflection songs of all times.
I grew up in Detroit and have followed Bob from the beginning. You won’t find a nicer and more humble “star.”l
Widely known as one of the nicest guys in the business.
Roll me Away - Bob Seger is the ULTIMATE road song. While driving across the great USA just put on Bob and vibe with the music
I can’t listen to that song too much. If I did, I’d toss my life to the side and just drive away lol
Check out Roll Me Away.
My favorite.
Every time I’m tired of hearing my own voice… It’s time to get on my own two-wheeler and roll that power on. 😢 Real Talk.
Seger is the best ballad writer in R&R. his “Turn the Page” is epic.
Absolutely!
An american legend,, He's also known as the king of midwest rock, He's from michigan. An american treasure he's in the rock and roll hall of fame. He's considered a musician's musician, .Loved by everyone made movie soundtracks and dozens of #1s, At his concert you would see people like,,, jimmy page,, Bruce springsteen,, Steven tyler,, Kid rock,, That was just in the audience..✌️
P.S. " Turn the page" is considered by many a masterpiece.....
He had several albums, with a hit or two on them, but it was his "Best Hits" CD that truly introduced him to the world and made him a superstar. It is SO GREAT,......song after song that are, each one, an awesome testament to his depth and vision. GET IT!!!!!!
Seger was the best I grew up listening to him,saw him in concert in 1978
Classic Bob Segar 💖
I had the same reaction the 'k" sound. Bobs voice is 2:31 treasured, real and blue collar with😅 class
This was a brilliant and insightful analysis of an iconic song.
We old people love watching younger people enjoy the music we grew up with.
Bob Seger (SEE GER) is an amazing vocalist and storyteller. The Silver Bullet Band is impeccable.
I am glad you have heard this.
You would love "Night Moves." and several dozen of his other songs.
The only way to appreciate Bob Seger is to see him live...
As a man of 72, his music touches my soul! I look back on my youth and the strength I had, the dreams I looked forward to, and wonder where it all went.
Bob Seger, one of the greatest story tellers of all time. He can rock, he has some of the best ballads. Best singer and and artist of all time.
His music can take you back to a certain time in your personal life. I always say Segers music is a timeline to my life. It can be interpreted to fit your life. His musics relates to everyone.
I appreciate your reviews.
The Bob Seger " Live Bullet" album is one of the best live albums in Rock and roll. You can just randomly pick a song on it and you won't be disappointed.
Yea for shur
Night Moves, Even Now, Roll Me Away, Hollywood Nights, Main Street…..the hits run through his entire library.
I have been listening to his music since the 60's. He has so many great songs you could spend hours upon hours listening to his music and still not hear all of them. 1 of the greatest song writers and singers of all time.
Saw Bob every tour since 1980. He makes it clear how much he appreciates his fans, and the joy he exudes. Always had a really good band. Alto Reed (RIP) played sax, but with the stage presence of a lead guitar player. Never disappointed
This is my first video of yours, and you're the first "Reaction" creator I've watched who pays close attention to the lyrics. As an old English teacher, the lyrics mean a great deal to me, so it is refreshing to find someone who respects the words. Thank you.
This song as well as other awesome tunes from 70's and 80's were on my playlist for our camping trip. He sings about experiences that we all go through. I am 64 now and also wonder where those years went. Love it! Turn the Page is another awesome song from Bob.
I'm 70 years old and 10 years ago this song inspired me to be like a rock. I stretch and work out 30 minutes every day to say young. It works I started doing motorcycle race track days which is physically demanding and now I ride every minute possible while 30 year Olds are packing up and going home. You have to keep your dreams. By the way on most tracks my top speed is over 150 mph.
Loved your reaction to Bob Seger. I have always loved his songs and like you said that rasp in his voice just made his songs more amazing. Grew up listening to him my whole life and still love his music today.
Thanks for bringing this song to light. The original title for this album was American Storm. The name was changed when GM bought the copyright for a Chevrolet commercial. I bought that album on cassette tape and a T shirt titled American Storm at his concert in 1986.I still have the T shirt, but I was never able to find another cassette. Nothing but good memories seeing Bob Seger live! The cassettes were only sold at his concerts before the album was released.
I still have the LP. Saw him in 2006 but wish I could have seen him in his prime. But his music lives.
He played at my high school junior dance.
You absolutely nailed it, Rosalie!! You're so very thoughtful in your listening! He has so many hits... he's one of the best storytellers, seems like it's becoming a lost art. Luv ya! 💙💙 xx Cynthia
Bob Seger was the siger of my youth. He spoke to me. His imperfect voice with its soul, the rasp. He always wrote about life's journey. So good so good. He was never a popular mega star. He was too fine a wine to be appreciated by everyone but those of us who knew him felt he was the best.
He has a song from "73 called "Rosalie" - she was a radio music director and a legend in the business.
Simpler times. Fun times. Bob was a part of our lives.
Actually Bob is from Ann Arbor michigan. He played for his sister's prom from pioneer high school in Ann Arbor. My ex and family were from there. I seen him in concert 3 times in Detroit. Fabulous show
Absolutely anything off of his greatest-hits collections are gold.
I saw him perform twice in the 70's & once in the 80's. He was perfect every time. It's hard to say what is my favorite song but i still get a chill down my spine at the intro of "turn the page".
Musician, singer and the ultimate story teller! Seen him and his band many times in my youth! Back then I was in love with his music and his voice but now "68 years old" I still love the music and his voice but now his story telling has a lot more meaning than it used to have! Thanks Rosalie appreciate this reaction so much.
'Like a Rock' and 'Against the wind'. This pair are my favourites.
