It's funny you say how you're beginning to notice music everywhere. I honestly, in my heart believe that music can unite people. We can all find common ground and a shared history.
Wait till you’re 76. You reflect on even people not things. Music pulls me back to the era it was made. The fifties and early 60s family, Vietnam my Marine buddies, 70s the start of my marriage, 80/90s my kids music, and now after 50 years of marriage I can relive the people I love in each time period. Thank you for taking me back with your reflections.
This song was 💯 in a Chevrolet commercial! It's all I can picture when I hear this song! Kinda like The Allman Brothers song Midnight Rider in the Geico commercial! 😆 U should definitely check out more Bob! Old Time Rock and Roll is a whole different vibe than what u have heard so far!
Seger was equally perfect in concert--sounded every bit as great as his recordings, all without autotune and no lip synching. At 61 he was still running up and down the stage during his performances....absolutely two of the best concerts I ever got to see.
I was able to see 5 concerts. My Sister and Father saw 6 concerts. All over a 30 year span. Bob Seger is part of my life. Always has been and always will be. It is a family affair with me. I am blessed.
100, Having an eidetic memory; I hate covers and live performances because it doesn't match the time signature, Bob Seager almost never had that problem, very few artists can keep Rythm with No metronome. lol
I was fortunate enough to have seen him live twice, the first time was front row tickets I won on a radio contest. It was amazing! I was so close I could see the red Levi’s tag on his jeans! 😂
I only heard both of those about a million times 'cause in the mid '80s they were played over and over every night in every topless bar from coast to coast!💯🤣❤️✌️
Not Bob Seger, but I gotta add one more song to the nostalgia list. Don Henley - The Boys of Summer. As a kid, it wasn't bad. As an adult, it grabs me, every time.
A few of my favoirte Bob Seger songs: Against the Wind Her Sturt Old Time Rocking Roll If you get a chance check out the The Allman Brothers Band - Soulshine - sure it will make your playlist
I'm 66 and you are playing the music I surrounded myself with when I was in my 20s. We boomers had the best of rock in the 60s and 70s. They were golden years for rock.
Bob's voice and lyrics can paint a picture in your mind like no other. Put all of his songs on little pieces of paper, put them in a hat, pull one out, it's a hit. "Where did the time go?" Brother, with your b-day coming up, you are a week younger than my youngest. I can't tell you where the time went.
Im 56. I grew up in MI. I still have a cabin in Northern MI. When Uncle Bob comes on, you turn it up, and recall. Go to the woods, the lake, the river, the fishin hole, the cornfield, the bondfire, and chill with Bob.
"Roll Me Away" will give you strong feelz like that as well, along with being an incredibly melodic jam'n tune. Try "Mainstreet" as well. Can't go wrong with Seger; one of the best songwriters, not to mention vocalists, in modern rock/pop music, ever.
My favorite Bob Seger song is Against the Wind. Beautiful song with the best line ever "wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." How true in life. 😢
I cannot hear this song without tearing up. This was my dad's song - it was his anthem that we all knew was about him. Old school tough mechanic military vet that just oozed confidence and being a rock solidarity. We played this song at his funeral 11 years ago with the screen showing pictures of his life through all the cars he built and the family he made. Now this song means something more to me than ever. Miss ya dad. Every day.
Bob Seger was the Simone Biles of the music scene in his day. His support of the Michigan auto industry (he was born in Detroit) was how Chevrolet was able to use this song in their ads. He also gave a large chunk of the money he was paid to the auto workers fund. Solid Michigan guy who never forgot his roots. Solid man, solid music, period.
I've seen him many times through the years, and never even a bad piece of a show, just pure excellence. I've seen him from the front row, I've seen him from the cheap seats up next to the ceiling, and never anything less than pure excellence. Thank you for the reaction!
Seger didn't get paid much for the commercial. He did it because he was from Detroit and the American car industry, mostly from Motor City, was hurting. His backup band is called the Silver Bullet Band, and he turned down a lotmore money from Coor's Light (the "Silver Bullet") because he didn't want to "sell out..."
I just turned 75 a couple of days ago. I, a US Army Paratrooper and wore the coveted Green Beret. Now, I have problems getting into my truck... where has time gone? That is why this song is so loved by me and I play it a lot... to remember...
You are correct Chevy trucks used the Like a Rock in their commericals for many years. When Chevy first approached Bob about using his song in their ads he said no. However After speaking to a plant worker for GM, Seger had a change of heart as he was reminded of his own time working for the car company. He relented and "Like a Rock" became the official anthem of Chevy trucks from 1991 to 2014. Bob was from the Detroit area, and always wanted to do what he could to suport the local workers. Bob has a very deep and full catalouge of songs to explore. One of the best singer songwriters of his or any other generation. THe best thing you can say about any singer/songwriter. There is not such thing as a bad Bob Seger Song. Hollywood Nights, Her Strut, The Famous Final Scene, Feel like a Number, and Beautiful Loser are some that I think you might connect with.
When I heard the truck commercial I thought "Oh my God! No No! Do not cheapen and abuse this amazing song!!!" as I get older I change the words " 20 years, where;d they go? " to 30 years now 40 years
bob has so many hits and is a legend ! live bullet album is a must listen for all who love music. every man at a certain age can relate to every word in this CLASSIC
Bob Seger. My all time favorite performer. Times of reflection, times of romance, times of road trips... all accompanied by Bob Seger and his Silver Bullet Band.
Bob Seger transcends age groups. Something in all of his songs hits home. But this one....wow. There was a time I was like a rock. We can all remember those days. I took my inlaws to a concert of his a few years ago. Watching them sing and dance along was amazing.
I first heard Hollywood Nights as a teenager. My former husband is the one who really got me into his music. It was so much a part of our reationship. So many of his songs aligned with our life. I hear some of it today and it still brings tears to my eyes. He is truly an American Legend. And his sax player...OMG!!!❤
He actually worked in a GM plant before he, "made it". Certainly one of my all time favorite songs. The older you get the more it means to you. I'm a 75yo container with a 39yo inside. Well... occasionally a 12yo is inside it. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
In the 70's,when I was standing in line in Hollywood,at Two Guys From Itally for a Pizza,I turned around and the guy behind me smilled at me. It was Bob Seger. Suddenly he took off his baseball cap that said "Peppermint Patty" and put it on my head. Saying" This fit's you better than it does me". I still have that cap. It is dark blue with the saying on it.
Bob Seger :Feel like A Number". That's how I felt when I first went over seas after joining the Marine Corps. Played it over and over on the juke box.....
If you want to think about the people and places that formed you, grab some beers, sit back on the porch, and put on Bob Seger. All the people and all the places will come back. Raise a toast to their memory and be thankful they were there for you.
Bob Seger represents the heart and soul of Detroit, that's why this song was chosen for a Chevy truck commercial. Just like Chrysler used Eminem's Lose Yourself. Turn The Page, Shakedown, Come To Poppa, Her Strut, Old Time Rock And Roll, Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, the list of Seger classics goes on...
And I love that all the lyrics are sung clearly. You don't have to go back to try to figure out what he said. You can take in the depth immediately and relate. Bob's from my home state, so we've been with him from the beginning---and are around his age now.
Seger is my dad's favourite artist. I didn't really get it when I was young, but the older I get, the more it becomes clear. His lyrics are timeless. His voice is passionate. And he's clearly a Goat that's underappreciated.
Quite possibly the greatest storyteller in rock history. If you want to react to more of Bob (and I know you do), write his extensive catalog of hits on a board, close your eyes & throw a dart--you can't go wrong with any of 'em!
This guy really gets this song. Anyone can enjoy it, but men of a certain age can’t help but be moved by it. It’s a masterpiece, plain and simple-one of the purest and most honest songs ever.
Seger is one of what some critics call the "Heartland Rockers," guys with a working class attitude, sometimes but not always from the Midwest. Seger and Springsteen are perfect examples, along with John Mellencamp and Michael Stanley.
I’m in AZ His brother in law is a fighter here in Glendale he stops in the station to visit his brother in law when he’s in town. Not been around at all because of his bad back. My neighbor is friends with his brother in law and Bob’s sister, Bob and his wife they all camp together. He wrote a song about first responders because of his brother in law 💙❤️
We played this at my dad’s funeral. He worked for Ford for 39 years and he was my families rock for sure. Bob Seger doesn’t live that far from me, in Michigan.
I think a lot of rap/hip hop fans are not aware of how deep many of the classic rock lyrics are. Yeah, it wasn't just screaming guitars; they had stories to tell back in the day too. Many of the reactors are too young to really feel this song. Glad you felt this one.
About that car commercial (truck commercial), Bob gave all the profits from Like a Rock to the auto workers in Detroit. Every penny, for all time. Detroit loves Bob Seger.
It’s amazing how these icons like Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan, John Fogerty, Billy Joel, Jon BonJovi, and others I’m not immediately recalling, all have vast musical catalogues from hit songs they wrote from their own imagination or their own experience. True artists and poets.
Chevrolet ran that commercial for Chevy trucks using Bob Seger’s song for 13 years and sold hundreds of thousands of trucks. The story is that when he was first approached by Chevrolet about using his song, he declined. Some time later, he was in a restaurant in a Detroit suburb and was approached by an autoworker. The industry was going through a rough time and the autoworker asked Bob why he didn’t help the industry by making a commercial for them, since Bob’s father had been an autoworker and so had Bob before he made it as a musician. Bob re-thought his decision and gave the ok to Chevrolet and the rest is history. It was one of the most successful ad campaigns for any vehicles ever. Thanks for the great reaction to Bob Seger, the GOAT. 👏👏👏🥰
Time moves on. Its one of the few things we cant control or manipulate. Memories come back as we grow and we see where we were or how we have changed. This song is really deep and Bob tells this story so well. I am 58 and I remember those days as a 18 yo .I still stand for my beliefs, i just stand slower and take pain meds to do it lol. Bob Seger makes you think and i love his music. Great reaction, keep em coming and happy Birthday :)
I listened to Seger all through high school and have never stopped. Sometimes, nothing moves me like some of his songs. Against The Wind is one of greatest!
Mr. Seger describes a young person stepping into adulthood. All the hopes and none of the fears. All the strengths without the weakness and pain that comes with age. *That's* why people try to teach their children well. That's why communities invest in education, and vocational training. :D No one lives forever. Twenty years after your high school graduation, thirty, forty....fifty or more, as we gaze at the moon up in the sky the only things we will have left to cherish is the memories of what we've managed to accomplish together *and* on our own in the world during our personal journey through time. Time doesn't go *anywhere* but we cannot linger. Live so that somebody misses *you* when you're gone. That's a tribute in itself, don't you think?
If I remember correctly, Bob took minimum for the truck commercial. He doesn't commercialize his music. He basically gave them the song to help the auto industry, and in turn the city of Detroit.
This song is one of my favorite songs ever, and it has been since I was a preteen. Having more comprehension of the lyrics as a middle-aged person now, I just love it more. This song reminds me so much of my late husband, who passed away at just 45 yrs old.
40’s and 50’s are special too! Enjoy raising your family. Those years go by even faster. There is a saying that goes. “The days are long but the years are short”. That holds true when you’re raising kids. Absorb all those special moments ❤️
Bob Seger is one of my favorite artist. He’s a legend.
It's funny you say how you're beginning to notice music everywhere. I honestly, in my heart believe that music can unite people. We can all find common ground and a shared history.
Absolutely it’s the universal language. Every human no matter race country whatever can enjoy. It’s definitely a way of communication and love.
That's what MJ said and believed. And we had the music to unite around.
Yeah, wishing. ALOT of young people are too dumb and don't have the drive or only choice to actually have to live
Amen
Absolutely 💯
I can’t add anything to Bob Seger except thank you
Yes, thank you very much

Bob Seger doesn't have a bad song . His catalog of bangers is epic.He feels every word he sings and you will too.

Love to watch her strut is a totally different vibe but I love it. I don’t think there is any Seeger song I don’t like!
Seger was equally perfect in concert--sounded every bit as great as his recordings, all without autotune and no lip synching. At 61 he was still running up and down the stage during his performances....absolutely two of the best concerts I ever got to see.
Yes sir, and as you probably know, many of those live performances ended up on the albums.
I was able to see 5 concerts. My Sister and Father saw 6 concerts. All over a 30 year span. Bob Seger is part of my life. Always has been and always will be. It is a family affair with me. I am blessed.

Saw him in 1975 Live at Hulman Center in 1975 and have been mesmerized by his music since!
Thank you thank you thank you. Check out Old Time Rock and Roll. It's a great song. PS. Running against the Wind is also definitely worth checking out
Yes, most definitely I 100% agree
both songs are great
I'm 65 and still remember telling my brother when we were in our 20's that Bob Seger was the best story teller ever. I still feel that way.
Bob is a great storyteller, but don't forget to include Billy Joel in that list!🎹🎙🎶
Great American singer songwriter.
Bob Seger never disappoints. One of the best, most consistent singer/songwriters ever.
Bob Seger is the G.O.A.T. of nostalgia songs that make you think of your past. Just for fun try Come To Papa or Her Strut.

Bob Seger is the KING of reminiscing songs, always makes you think back to your youth....
Bob's voice and lyrics can paint a picture in your mind like no other. Put all of his songs on little pieces of paper, put them in a hat, pull one out, it's a hit.

Hello fellow MI friends !
The older you gets, the harder this hits. Keep cruisin', Brother.
My favorite line as well,
Yeah, that one is incredible
Always makes me cry!❤
I cannot hear this song without tearing up. This was my dad's song - it was his anthem that we all knew was about him. Old school tough mechanic military vet that just oozed confidence and being a rock solidarity.

When I was a teen in Michigan late 70s to Early 80s, Bob Seeger ruled the radio. They played him all the time and I never heard him do a bad one.
If I could only listen to one artist's music for all my remaining years, it would definitely be Bob Seger.
I would too! ❤
And the eagles for group!
I first heard Hollywood Nights as a teenager. My former husband is the one who really got me into his music. It was so much a part of our reationship. So many of his songs aligned with our life. Music is everywhere. Thank god. Music makes this world better.
I'm in tears, remembering the 70's with every summer with friends and a Bob Seger conterts
😢 I feel you
If I remember correctly, Bob took minimum for the truck commercial.
Was lucky enough to see him in concert. One the best live bands
That's what you call great advertising! 30 years I too think of those Chevy Truck commercials every time I hear this song.
I'm loving you hitting all these songs from way back. You wonder where 20 went, I'm looking for 40+.
