Oh boy , every older guy can relate to this song
Looking in the rear view mirror of your life
This song brings misty eyes to this grizzly old drummer guy after raising my kids and seeing them become adults
Where did those last 20 years ago?
It goes by in a blank of an eye

I'm 62yrs old and with every year that passes, this song digs deeper into my soul. My favorite scene in this video is when the young lady climbs up onto the back of the seat with the wind blowing through her hair. A time of carefree. Then both guitar solos........ Thank you for your reaction.

I was 26 years old when Bob Seager released LIKE A ROCK. I was young and firm,,,, arrow straight,,,, working for peanuts,,,, and strong in my beliefs.... I instantly loved this song.. The music,,, rhythm,,,, guitar.... Then there was the lyrics.... The story of growing up,,,, growing old..... I`d hear it every day at work from the older men I worked with.... " When I was young".. " It seems like only yesterday:.... I was aware that someday I would be there... I always respected and expected that.... So now,,, today,,,, as I type this,,,, I am 64 years old.... Still able to work,,,, still firm in my beliefs,,,, but wiser,,, kinder,,,, smarter,,, and a little sadder... 40 years,,,,, where did they go? Seems like only 8 or 10 years ago.... I now sit,, bathed in the firelight,,,, looking at the pale moonlight,,,, remembering long past summer nights..... This song is so utterly spot-on. In 1986 I first heard and loved this song. Since then I have lived this song. I have become this song. Now, my eyes mist when I hear this song.... It is so damn true....

You totally get it. This is probably one of the greatest video concepts interpreting a song ever. His youth on one side of the tracks, his present on the other, and the train is the time passing between the two. The amazing guitar and raspy voice just help to emphasize the meaning of the lyrics. Brilliant.

You found another classic! Bob can flat out sang, and The Silver Bullet Band is top notch. This one is mid-80's, but this bunch of guys from Detroit, Michigan first got together in the 70's and they have many, many hits. In fact, I don't think there is such a thing as a bad Bob Seger song, for real. You will enjoy them all! Try his Turn The Page, Night Moves, Hollywood Nights, Against The Wind, and Mainstreet for starters, but really, you can't go wrong with anything you decide to listen to. Thanks for sharing this one.

In my opinion he comes up to the train tracks, stops and gets out, the train represents his life starting at 18, The young people across the tracks were him and his friends when they were young. When he says 20 years now where they go, the young kids across the tracks stop and wondered what their lives will be as they get older, when the train comes to end that is where he is at in his life right now. I always get choked up when he says 20 years where they go i always wonder that it goes so fast. im 59 now and i still sit and wonder where the time went.

Many of my teenage dreams came true. Many didn't. But the good news is, even at the age of 59....I still believe in my dreams.

Excellent perspective Rere. For those of us in the States, this song was used by Chevy pickups for over a decade. ie.. the truck is solid like a rock. So many of us have at least heard it in passing.
A song by Seger in a similar style is "Turn the Page". Looks back at all that time he spent touring with the band. Enjoy the sax.
I'm guessing you have someone in your life that may have experienced something like this. Away from home, the family, friends. Wishing you always didn't have to be there. Although maybe not a rock star. Unless you know Cher.
But Seger had a career that spanned six decades. A literal library of hits. Lots of great suggestions given by others, as he can go from a ballad to much more uptempo stuff.

I worked on the loading dock of a waterbed warehouse, for just about no money.
My clothes were trashed from all the particle board, and any extra money I had went to pay for university classes, so I had absolutely nothing.

I stumbled across your channel earlier and I’ve been watching for over an hour, your reactions are so erudite and thoughtful it’s so refreshing to know that the future of music is in safe hands.
All of the Bob songs mentioned are worth listening to, I’d also add Betty Lou’s Getting Out Tonight as a guy just having fun. After Bob there’s his East Coast of the USA soulmate Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band who just have too many songs to mention, but are maybe one of the few who are arguably better live, so if you do check him out perhaps look for live performances (the 1975 Hammersmith Apollo and (I think) 1981 No Nukes concerts are great starting points.

I don't miss my youth, if anything I miss a time when many things were easier. The reason why I don't miss my youth is that I would belittle what came afterwards. Today, at the age of 58, I often think of old loves that we ran after, of friends who left us too soon, of my children when they were still Kids. Today I enjoy their children, my “new” love (together for a few years). I enjoyed the old times, but I enjoy the present time just as much.

When I was 18 I worked for little just to help others but little I knew I was gaining experience. When I was 18 I played American football for many years and that helped me become a team player and to help others build on their skills in the real world. I wish all young men challenge themselves every day when they are young . Do it until it hurts and work beyond that, and you will be proud of yourself. No one else will know your struggle but you and that’s what makes you special young man.

The song was a huge hit for Seger when he released it and then he licensed it to Chevrolet to use in their car commercials. It became an iconic song in the adverts too. So big Seger didn't perform it in concert for decades because he felt he'd be giving Chevy a free commercial. It's only in the last decade that he began performing it again

First time viewing your channel. Saw you were reacting to Bob and had to stop in. Loved your reaction and comments so yes I subscribed and will be back. Bob is one of the greats, not a single song is bad. He does what is called Midwestern Rock. And you will find most of his songs are two parts in that he has a "summer" of his life, youth, and "autumn" older and reflecting back on that youth. His voice is enough to carry a song on it's own. Check out Night Moves. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to appreciate the music I grew up on.

He's a master story teller. One of the few musicians who can tell you about a whole lifetime in 3 minutes.

Likely the most under appreciated rock artist of all time. So many wonderful songs. The entire Live Silver Bullet album is worth covering.

All his albums rock. In my humble opinion he doesn't have any bad songs.
