When you walk through a store and you see all the old men, no matter how bent and decrepit, there's a young man inside that still has those memories...those experiences.
I did a thesis on him in college for a music class. It stuck with me so idk for sure? I just remember reading he was born in Detroit and raised in Ann Arbor.....you can't always believe what you read, of course. So, you could possibly be right.
@@sheldondyck8631The other really good one was a long form commercial showing a father taking his little daughter snow skiing in an old Suburban, then taking her to ski coaching and competitions later, then her skiing in the Olympics and Dad had a newer Chevy.
I was in my prime, 34 years old, when this song came out. Now I'm 72 and it hits completely different. I've got COPD, 3 stents in my heart, a titanium plate in my neck, a titanium left hip joint, arthritis, and a wheel chair. I miss what I was. I cry when I hear this song now.💯😢😫❤️✌️
I’m 67 years old now, just survived a heart attack that came right out of the blue and I listen to this now and my eyes tear up. I feel this song is my life story looking back to those years and the journey we are all on.
General Motors used Bob’s song as the theme for their Chevy trucks for almost 20 years. It was everywhere on TV and radio. Bob always supported the autoworkers and gave a lot of money in support of unemployed autoworkers, during a time when the industry was going through a rough time. That’s why he is revered in the Midwest and especially in Michigan, where he is now retired. We miss your fabulous concerts Bob. Thanks for this review of the great Bob Seger. 👏👏
If I recall correctly, they brought a slide guitar player into the studio for this track. When he was finished with his first take (maybe his only take), there was stunned silence as all the recording engineers and other musicians absorbed this epic performance. Some people had tears in their eyes when it ended. I am sure that either Bob or another member of the Silver Bullet Band learned it so they could play it in concerts, but it still stands as a monumental slide guitar performance.
My daughter and I went to see him at the United Center a few years ago and he was in his seventies. He sang so many songs that are classics and he did nor skip a beat. He has retired now but the man is a great storyteller. ❤
Funny story about this song; Several years ago I was at work when the boss asked me to drive two other employees to pick up a couple of trucks that had been in the shop. They were both young guys, probably late teens-early twenties. I always listened to classic rock radio and during that trip this song came on. One of the guys remarked, "I thought this was a Chevy commercial. I didn't know it was a real song." I was in my mid thirties at the time but in that moment I felt very old.
Growing up when Bob Seger was popular I never really cared to listened to him. All these years later I think he is amazing. Got to see him about 12 years ago and he sounded like he never lost a step.
Bob's hometown is Detroit, Michigan and yes he's a great singer songwriter, I would like to request a song by Bob Seger, called "SHAME ON THE MOON" as usual another great sounding song from Bob. Thanks
@@Upsidedownguitar63 I know you misunderstood me I didn't say that Bob, wrote the song SHAME ON THE MOON, I said he was a great singer and songwriter, Rodney, is also a great writer as well! Sorry for the misunderstanding
I'm from Michigan originally. Bob Seger was an institution. His songs were our lives put to music. You wanna know who an old Michigander is. Listen to Bob.
Apart from the mighty voice and the tension in this song the guitar is the most exciting thing. It pushes it in any direction and is played so well. Especially the three notes around 3:00 kills me every time I listen to it. The slide guitar was played by Rick Vito and drums by Russ Kunkel, two great musicians. And believe it or not, the background vocals were The Weather Girls!
He's singing about his youth...this song was out when I was 18...and haul'n hay...then carrying a rifle...then building 747's for 3.5 decades....now I'M the old guy and my youth is gone...
This song plays like a movie in my mind back to the years of my youth now with some serious health issues it makes me reflect on my life and it makes me smile the 20 years for me is closer to 40 years.
This song just hits home. My late brother was 15 years older than me. I was 15 when he past away. He was a wild man and it cost him his life. Love yall
Gospel and blues rock. Bob Seger is a great bluesy singer and storyteller. I'd class him as "Heartland Rock," along with Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar Mellencamp, etc. Have you heard Gordon Lightfoot? He's another storyteller, a little more folk based, from a few years earlier. "Sundown," "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," "If You Could Read My Mind," and "Carefree Highway."
Back in the late 60's we would go to the Crowsnest East, a club in St. Claire Shores, Michigan to see Bob Seger and The Last Heard. I was a youth of 16 years at the time. At the age of 70 I love all these youngsters who are discovering the wonderful musical influences that contributed to my growth as an adult today.
There is no bad Bob Seger song. This is a great one. Treat yourselves sometime to the official video for this song. It takes it to yet another level. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Sadly, Bob Seger recently passed on Jan. 30, 2024 R.I.P. and was a big part of the soundtrack of many of our lives!!! Left us all wanting more...will always be missed!!!
Bob is a home boy from the Motor City. I've been to so many of his concerts, I can't count. He always played at Cobo Hall. We 1st saw Bob playing local clubs in the late 60's. We'd always see him & Chris Campbell at lakes on the Ann Arbor, Chelsea & Dexter area or at MIS.
One of my favorites by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band is the pairing of "Travelin' Man" and "Beautiful Loser," which they started performing live together in 1976. Just an amazing duo of songs.
^69 and can tell you stay as healthy as you can and you'll feel still feel 30. It's strange when I see older people my age and then they call me sir, as I saw them as my grandparents age.
you are young now. but someday, heaven willing, you will become old enough to take this song to heart. as my husband (70) relates to this song he tells me he often ponders of his memories and stories of his youthful days. He calls them his Glory Days. and with taht said, you should do a reaction to Bruce Springsteen's song - "Glory Days". these songs go hand-in-hand. As usual very good reactions.
I absolutely adored this song when I was a teen. I sure felt like that. Now I look back and appreciate that time in my life, but rocks dont compromise, find a partner and settle down. I do still look back on that time as wonderful and this song - and the outtro - just fantastic!
When you get to be my age 63 you'll understand the meaning behind this song
When I look in the mirror it's almost like looking at a stranger
I'm 72. I hear ya...
I'm 73 and think back to when I was 18...and "Like a Rock". Time sure goes by too fast.
Gonna be 70 tomorrow. I remember being 'like a rock'.

"Roll me away," and "mainstreet" are two of his best!!!! There is no bad Bob Seger song!!!
could not agree with you more. I was lucky enough to be at Cobo for the Live album
I’m 61. I can identify with this song and how I felt in 1980.
It's a lot like hearing a pirate looks at 40, then 50. Then Alan Jackson's Remember When.
This song makes me cry every time i listen to it. Not sad tears just musical appreciation tears. the man and his people were gold standard.
I believe the song I was thinking of is In your time
I'm with you.
Best Chevy truck commercial theme song EVER.

Yes!! That's exactly right!!
Grew up watching that commercial everyday on tv. Love the part where that big dually truck is bouncing through the mud.

In retrospect yes. Tossed this 2 months ago when they used terrible RUclips lyrics. Official is just so good!
In my opinion, Bob Serger is a great road trip music! And I been listening to him for years, I'm 65
