"I Heard it Through The Grapevine" was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966. The first Motown bands to record the very popular song were The Miracles, Gladys Knight and The Pips and Marin Gaye. Creedence Clearwater Revival did an 11-minute version of the song on their album, "Cosmo's Factory" (1970). Extended instrumentals!
Yes, listen to the 11 minute version. (It was an accent thing. Since John Fogerty was from California, I think he put it on to sound like he was from the Bayou... the style of music was sometimes called "Swamp Rock".)
Yes, you will love “Born on the Bayou”! And just for fun, you should listen to the album version of “Heard It Through the Grapevine.” Good reactions! 👍
The Miracles recorded it first, though Gladys Knight and the Pips' version was released first. The Marvin Gaye version was released second, and The Miracles' version was released third. The CCR version was released a few years later.

Biss isn't just a cute pretty face, she's smart AF. When she reacts to movies I love how she always seems to anticipate what's about to happen in the next scene or anticipates complex plot changes that a lot of other reactors totally miss. Biss is bona fide!
"I HEARD it through the grapevine..." The word "heard" is typically pronounced "hurd" or "herd" . John Fogerty puts a New Orleans (Southern U.S.) accent on the word, and it sounds like "hoid" or "haid" . The "R" sound tends to disappear. Fogerty's songs often refer to Louisiana bayou (swamp) culture. Songs like "Born on The Bayou" and "The Old Man Down The Road" were big hits. Imagine hot and humid summers, swamps and wetlands, alligators and snakes, and a diverse population descended from the days of plantations and slavery.
The R in "heard" tends to be more full pronounced and even rolled in parts of the U.K. To my ears Madalina's pronunciation is very good, but I understand Mr. Fogerty too.
I grew up with this in the early 70s. Perfect answer to Bisscutes question. I've always found it interesting that people can sing in a style, but not necessarily where they are from.
I was raised in Northern California in the 1970’s and heard a lot of CCR then but thought for the longest time that Fogerty was from the South because of the way he sang!
CCR is iconic for the 70s! Run through the jungle and black moon rising are very good but they have a lot of good songs that will make you snap your fingers! Another well known 70s great with a similar voice: Bob Seger! Night moves is great but against the wind is a favorite!

CCR might have been the most played band at family party's when I was a kid. Everyone loved them, the adults and us kids, the rockers and country folk.
Love the rock n roll face you have! I grew up with CCR and rocked out back in the 60s and 70s. Glad to see a new generation appreciating the music of my youth.
Great Reaction Bisscute! What John Fogerty is saying he Heard a Rumor about the girl! Grapevine is the Rumor Mill! But you’re kinda right he didn’t like what he heard in the Grapevine! What happened to you at the beginning is that you basically Snapped in a good way! And you started snapping with your fingers! 🎸🤘🙏🏻
I dig the PJs (or what looks like PJs). Great chair dancing too! Classic song by a very unique band. Born on the Bayou shows off John's voice the best.
I've been listening to CCR and this song for 60 years. It's so refreshing to see someone so young and vivacious hearing it for the first time and being overwhelmed by it. Great Bisscute!!!!

This song brings back memories of parties w had in the early seventies and dancing to it with my girl and our friends. The song off the album is a long, long song, perfect for a dance party. This version you had is very short. Long instrumental in the original. Thank you for bringing back my middle and high school to me (and others)
CCR had so many great songs. Most of them were written by John Fogerty (the lead singer and guitarist), some were covers, and some were folk songs. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" was written by Motown songwriters Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong. Many different bands and singers recorded it, including The Miracles, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and Marvin Gaye (whose version is my favorite). CCR was a hit machine for a few years, in the late 60s and early 70s. Some of their best that you haven't reacted to yet: Proud Mary Bad Moon Rising Green River Down on the Corner Up Around the Bend Lookin' Out My Back Door The Midnight Special Cotton Fields
I had the privilege of seeing them twice in concert. The first time in 1969 at the Denver Pop Festival and again in 1971 with Ike and Tina Turner at the Denver Coliseum. At the time they both had made a hit with the song Proud Mary. Both versions were different enough from each other that there was no real "who did it better". Both concerts were awesome to this still a teenager!!

Love watching your reactions and seeing the joy you have discovering music I've loved all my life. The extended version is incredible. John goes off on the guitar solo. It's well worth listening to, even if you don't post a reaction. It's that good.
Omg Bisscute, CCR has been my GOAT band ever since I was 7/8 y.o! My first bought album was 'Down by the corner'! Keep on "snapping" your fingers & enjoy this journey! Songs are many, but I think You'll enjoy 'I put a spell on YOU', no worries😉...Great reaction, by the way! Keep it up!🎵🎺🎶 🤘
Your accent is adorable, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m actually rather envious, as I am nearly incapable of rolling my Rs the way you do! You really can’t go wrong with any CCR song, but I do love I Put a Spell on You, there’s a great instrumental section in the middle that I think you’d like, since you like this one. Fortunate Son, and Run Through the Jungle are huge hits of theirs. You’ve likely heard those songs if you’ve ever watched any Vietnam war movies.
"Heard" is pronounced the same as "herd". What you hear in the song is more of an improper, regional type accent, "hoyd". Cool song, great vibe, but I always got a chuckle from how he pronounced that. Many more great songs from CCR, dear. Do keep exploring. Fabulous reaction!!!
I never even noticed that until it was pointed out here. It sounds normal to me. Probably because I grew up hearing it said that way by people around me. I pronounce it like "a herd of cows" but I've heard it said both ways so often, both are normal.
Snapping your fingers... LOL The lead singer, John Fogarty, I think, is/was from an area in the USA, (I believe New Jersey, but I'm not certain) that does that as part of the diverse cultures across America. You are hearing him say HOYed.) I understand your frustration, but when you hear him sing that line, you can be sure that it IS CCR (Creedence Clearwater Revival) aka Creedence... I love your channel.
one of the best bands in history.🎉🎉🎉 an excellent song and a great reaction Miss Bisscute, for future reactions from Credence I suggest the songs: born on the bayou and Run Through The jungle, you will love both.😊

Just before my Ship the "USS Yellowstone AD-27" left port, "Nov '69, for the Med, CCR released "Proud Marry". No one on board was able to find a copy. We were stationed in Naples, Italy harbor. While wondering around the streets I found the album. I became very popular on board. lol. I prefer their version over Tina Turners. Mind you nothing wrong with her version.
My wife was on the Puget Sound (AD-38), and my brother was on the Acadia (AD-42). Funny when they decommed the Puget Sound (Norfolk), the Navy transfered her to the real Puget Sound! (Bremerton) I do thank you, my wife and brothers, for your service! I was Air Force. My wife says civilian services don't count. Whatever Honey!
CCR's versions of 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' along with 'Susie Q' and 'I Put A Spell On You' are 3 songs that have a deep trance hypnotic feel to them if you listen to them on headphones. As a kid just listening to these songs on a transistor radio used to send me to head nodding heaven.
His "hoy-d" in "I HEARD it through the grapevine" is iconic. Growing up in New Orleans, I did hear people pronounce it that way. Don't know if that's a typical southern twist on the word, or not. But I did hear it said this way now and then. Thanks for letting yourself go on this reaction. It is a blast to witness your uninhibited personality. You are a magnet for those of us who are attracted to a positive and honest attitude.
Excellent song. But the 11 minute extended version is awesome. Give a listen sometime. So many great CCR songs. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your weekend. 😊🎉❤
Their pronunciation of words was unique and styled to the rhythm or vibe of any particular song. They were not going for a perfect English pronunciation, but a stylized version.
The lead singer, John Fogerty, twisted words in his own way in every song, it's just his style.
"I Heard it Through The Grapevine" was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966.

yes, BORN ON THE BAYOU - followed closely by PROUD MARY.
Their BEST song (among many) and the greatest guitar solo in rock history! Not fast or fancy but it just works!
Snapping fingers involuntary means enjoying the song 😁I'll throw my vote in for the extended version.
They might be the greatest sounding band in the history of music.
If not they are a very very close second!
The bravery to cover Marvin Gaye, and the chops to pull it off. Pretty amazing.
@@Tijuanabill has Biss listen to Mr Gaye before?
Love this version but Marvin Gaye owns the most soulful version of this song.
The Miracles recorded it first, though Gladys Knight and the Pips' version was released first. The Marvin Gaye version was released second, and The Miracles' version was released third. The CCR version was released a few years later.

Famous for the gravel voice and the American Rock sound.
this version was cut short- more jamming in the entire cut on album

There is a huge debate on who did this song better... Marvin Gaye or CCR.
Well, the truth is, they BOTH made this song a masterpiece. And they did it by doing it in their own way.
With Marvin Gaye, his voice and calm manner made the song sound like it was about a breakup about to happen and being SAD about it. With CCR, the higher energy and John's vocals turned it into a "flip side of the coin" by making it an ANGRY song about a breakup.

I do thank you, my wife and brothers, for your service!
I was Air Force. My wife says civilian services don't count. Whatever Honey!
John puts his own twang on words, kind of twists heard into hoyd, great song for sure,do born on the bayou next l think you'll like it as well!
CCR's versions of 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' along with 'Susie Q' and 'I Put A Spell On You' are 3 songs that have a deep trance hypnotic feel to them if you listen to them on headphones. As a kid just listening to these songs on a transistor radio used to send me to head nodding heaven.
for a good song and misheard words checkout CCR's "Bad Moon Rising". Famously heard as "there's a bathroom on the right"
Maybe in the future
Commonly misheard as “there’s a baboon on the right” too….
CCR is AWESOME!!!
I actually saw them 6x. Guess I like them.
@@purplenewbalance I only saw them once. >50 years ago
“Born on the Bayou” is a great one,
I will add it to the list

“Born on the Bayou” is a great one
Maybe in the future
Excellent song. But the 11 minute extended version is awesome. Give a listen sometime. So many great CCR songs. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your weekend. 😊🎉❤
Thank you
Great band, song and reaction, Biss!
Thank you
This band also legends so many songs you called it snapping your fingers. Love your reaction Bisscute
Their pronunciation of words was unique and styled to the rhythm or vibe of any particular song. They were not going for a perfect English pronunciation, but a stylized version.
