The roughly 11 minute version is by far the best one that CCR did. It has a truly amazing "jam session" added to the song and really highlights John's guitar skills.
Side one opened with a 7 minute song with another amazing "jam session". I never bought the album until I was in high school and conveniently Mobile Fidelity released it as a half-speed mastered pressing on JVC's "supervinyl." Still have that.
John Fogerty, a California boy singing like the son of a Louisiana bullfrog who mated with a swamp alligator, lollllll 😂😅 Great way to help me start my day, Aileen, thank you. 😇✌️🎸🌹
CCR is pure. Their sounds are pretty raw, beautiful & relatable. Incredible group that is now legendary. Each member was essential to their musical creations. Others posted other songs of theirs, which are all recommended. Just good stuff.
Omg there are so many actual Creedence songs you'd love. Bad moon rising, Fortunate son, Proud Mary, Around the bend, Have you ever seen the rain, Born on the bayou, Looking out my back door...
I grew up hearing CCR on classic rock stations, and I was really surprised the first time I saw some of their early videos and realized how young he was when they started.
Creedence Slearwater Rivival aka CCR are one of my favorite groups. A touch of history: "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is a song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966. The first recording of the song to be released was produced by Whitfield for Gladys Knight & the Pips and released as a single in September 1967.
CCR works! Can't wait to see you react to more of their songs. CCR was at one point the most popular band in the world. They have so much to listen to!
CCR was one of the Most well rehearsed bands I've ever listened to. And I've seen hundreds in concert (I'm 76 years young). I saw CCR twice ('70 and '72) and they were AWESOME !! Love you and your reactions !!
This is such a great song. I like all 3 hit versions of this songs by Gladys Knight & The Pips, Marvin Gaye & CCR. But my favorite is by CCR. You need to listen to the 11 min. studio version by them. It is a masterpiece. John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. You have a huge catalogue of CCR's songs to go through. "Proud Mary", "Born On The Bayou", "Bad Moon Rising", "Lodi", "Green River", "Commotion", "Night Time Is The Right Time", "Down On The Corner", "Fortunate Son", "Cotton Fields", "Midnight Special", "Travelin' Band", "Who'll Stop The Rain", "Up Around the Bend", "Run Through The Jungle", "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Long As I Can See the Light", "Suzie Q", "I Put A Spell On You", "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" etc.
CCR was my favorite group of all that I ever listened to. John Fogerty was the lead sing, Lead Guitarist, and primary song writer. His older brother Tom was Rhythm Guitarist. Stu Cook Bassist. Doug Clifford Drummer. One of their greatest songs was Fortunate Son. But my favorite one was Bad moon Rising. A friend of my in school turned that song in to a punch line for a joke once in our English class.
I'm remembering being a kid on a bike, with a transistor radio hanging from the handlebars, hoping this song would come on. We old folks grew up with some awesome music.
This song was written by Norman Whitfield of Motown records. The owner of Motown records Barry Gordy hated the song but Whitfield kept pushing to have it released. Finally It was released by Gladys Knight & The Pips. It was a moderate hit but when Marvin Gaye recorded it became a mega hit and a Motown Classic. CCR had many big hits many are named in other comments. John Fogerty's voice is a classic. My personal favorite is "Traveling Band" a little more on the rock side. Still hoping you do Billy Idol live version of Mony Mony. Great reaction as always and thank you.
I know exactly what you mean, when the musicians have fun playing together and actually understand the songs it makes listening to them more enjoyable. Thanks for the review.
Aileen... CCR has MANY great songs...❤❤ Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Who'll Stop The Rain, Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, Long As I Can See The Light, Travellin Band, Lodi, Fortunate Son, Up Around The Bend, Lookin Out My Back Door, Sweet Hitchhiker, Someday Never Comes, Run Through The Jungle, Down On The Corner, and Green River...
The lead singer is John Fogerty. Many years after CCR he returned as a solo artist. You may have heard his "Put Me in Coach" from his comeback years. As was evident in this video, he truly enjoys performing and making music. There's several RUclips videos of him and Fogerty's Factory (sons Shane and Tyler and daughter Kelsy). Look for - "Have You Ever Seen the Rain? Cosmo's Factory/Fogerty's Factory" to see John and his family doing an old CCR classic
Trust me Aileen, this is one of the greatest rabbit holes (at least top 5) you will ever go down in your music exploration! Please listen and react to more CCR! They will repeatedly find their way into your personal playlist. Just off the top of my head: Green River. Who'll Stop The Rain. Have You Ever Seen The Rain. Up Around The Bend. Bad Moon Rising, etc.
Creedence Clearwater Revival became the soundtrack to my youth. Growing up in 60's Denmark we heard a lot of Doors, CCR, steppenwolf and Roger McGuinn music, puffin' on the weed and letting the free spirit roam.
Aileen, in the video, John Fogerty (lead singer /guitarist, is playing next to his brother (wearing glasses) Tom. Known for their swamp rock style of music, they only lasted 4 years ('68-72) but put out many great songs!

This is the kind of music I was raised on. My Dad had all their albums along with a bunch of other 70s Southern Rock style bands and would play them all the time.

A lot of people just say "CCR" or "Creedence" instead of the full name. Another phenomenal Motown cover they play is "I Put A Spell On You." There's a whole bunch of songs that are amazing. "Born on the Bayou" is an iconic Creedence that doesn't seem to get as much coverage as their others. Honestly, this is one of those bands where everyone's heard their songs but never realized it.
Creedence! One of the best, most important American rock bands ever! There's not a bad hit by them at all! Solid! Rockin'! No matter if it's one of their own songs or a cover (such as this great Marvin Gaye/Gladys Knight song), a good time is guaranteed! "Proud Mary" is probably the best song to listen to next.
