You can never go wrong with Bob Seger. The deeper meaning is an older man looking back at the summer of his life, with the autumn of his life coming on.
Bob Seager and The Silver Bullet Band are a classic rock band. He has sold over 72 million albums making him a legend. He is in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
"A black haired beauty with big dark eyes" applies to both you ladies. Bob Seger has so many great songs. My favorites are "Hollywood Nights" and "Turn The Page".
The next line refers to something else, "....and points of her own sittin' way up high, well firm and high." I think that metaphor flew over heads. If you think about it, you'll get what Bob was singing about. 🙂
BOB SEGER! His songs hit me right in the heart every time. His career spanned multiple decades and genres, and he racked up a boatload of great hits along the way. In the early-mid eighties you couldn't turn the FM dial without finding at least one of his songs. Singer, songwriter, musician. IMO he's one of the all time great American lyricists, and one of my favorite musicians. Get ready, this is a deep gold mine.
Bob Seger's music could be described as heartland rock. His songs always told a great story. Great singer-songwriter. "Night Moves" is one of his best.
Bob Seger was known as a "Roots Rocker" which is an artist that looks back to rock's origins in folk, blues and country music. He is a wonderful of all of these genre's. I love his raspy singing voice. Take care....
It almost chokes me up a little when the line comes up "In the summertime" This is my generation music and OH My goodness! Summertime for me in my teens was the holy land! I was never more alive! the 80's were magic and summertime in the 80's! Get on away form here!!!! MAGICAL! The other line "When you just don't seem to have as much to lose" I think is a great way to sum up a teenagers attitude! What did we have to lose in our minds?! Nothing so we took risks we were not afraid! We lived!!! Bob Segar is awesome!
Bob Sever to me is Americana, a blend of Rock, folk, country. A great songwriter, and the Silver Bullet Band.. was to Bob Seger, ..what The Heartbreakers were to Tom Petty. Please explore more Seger. As usual, big smile on my face watching you two. Much Love.🙏👍❤️
Bob Seger has a superb voice, great story telling, awesome musician. As I understand it, this song is about an Italian girlfriend of a friend of Bob's. His friend left to serve in the military. While he was gone, she had a summer romance with Bob. After the friend returned, she married him. Arrggh! Short version of the song! Long version is so much better!
Ahhh, so many great Drive-In memories! That Bob Seger album is incredible and not a bad song on it. You'll have to do a deep dive with her on this one. My favs were Night Moves, Come to Poppa, Main Street and Ship of Fools but, again, all of it is fantastic.
I actually met him in 1967, side by side in the men's room of a dance club in Acme, Michigan, about an hour before he blew my mind out of the back of my head with that voice!
Bob Seger has some of the best poetry and great stories. Points way up high, way up firm and high...great line. Many great songs. In the early 70's me and my girl went to the drive- in every Friday night and we both lost our virginity during the 2nd feature! A little awkward and working on our night moves. Didn't worry about anyone looking in the windows, they were always fogged up! Seger brings back great memories in many of his songs.
@@frankphillips5660 Wow, that's amazing that it's still open. Is it still popular? My Dad graduated from LW High School. Yeah, I have fond memories there as well. Can't tell you how much DNA I've left behind there! LOL
@@dunhill1 LOL, small world. I graduated in 73 from Twin Lakes High School, previously Palm Beach HS and now School of the Arts. Trail Drive In is still popular but not top rate movies. they make their money from swap shops. In 73 there were 4 drive ins in WPB area. The Ft.Laud. multi drive in is still open I believe. Haven't been to a drive in since the 70's tho.
I remember hearing this song many times. Bob Seger has a great sound with his vibrato combined with his raspy voice. The timing of his reference to black hair and brown eyes. I’ve dated a couple of blonde girls, but I’ve dated more brunettes than blondes. I remember going to a few drive-in movies with my parents as a young kid anywhere from 4-6 years old. I remember those speakers, and a little food hut in the vicinity. I remember a joke from Steven Wright about drive-ins. He said he took a cab to a drive-in movie. It cost him $95.00.
This is the first Bob Seger song I ever heard, and it is his best one, IMHO .. Such a great bittersweet nostalgic feeling to it, and it grows on you the more you hear it .. A classic for sure !
The Drive-In was basically a party on wheels. I had a friend that had a pickup truck and on Drive-In night he had a sofa he would load into the back, and he had a kick ass stereo in his truck that gave great sound for the movies. We all sat on the sofa and watched the movies. You could bring something to drink/smoke, and it was always two movies each night. It was a social gathering and entertainment all in one. Some of the most fun times of my life were at Drive-Ins. We need to bring them back into popular usage again.
I was hoping they’d make a comeback during Covid. Seemed like the perfect situation for it. If we didn’t all have movie theaters in the palm of our hands, it might’ve popped off again.
Love me some Bob Seger! So many great songs! Love this one for the look back at drive-ins and the fun we had back in the day. Then Bob does what he does best, turns it into a wistful remembrance of days gone by. The last part of the song always gets me when he sings "started hummin' a song from 1962, ain't it funny how the night moves, with August closin' in." Love his voice. I recommend Turn The Page, and We've Got Tonight, and Shame on The Moon for just a few if you haven't reacted to them yet.
You just opened up a whole wonderful list of songs by Bob seger that you must try main Street like a rock he has an incredible amount of songs for you to try Bob seger and the silver bullet band grew up listening to him all my life
Love yall for reacting to this one. Bob seger is one of the the all time greats and one of my personal favourites.❤ just a 26 year old guy enjoying some good music.
I was 22 when I herd this song the first time. I'm now facing my 70th birthday and it still stikes a chord in my heart. "With autumn closing in" comes closer to home with every new day.
I grew up in Southern Michigan, so therefore, saw Bob many times in his early days and beyond.....attended live shows at Cobo arena, during the shows that were recorded and released as "Live Bullet" and later Nine Tonight.......in the mid 60's, Bob was bandmates with Glenn Frey
Bob and I went everywhere together, back in the '70s. I always drove and he always sang. I knew he was my first love, but he never knew because he lived on the other side of the world. To this day, he accompanies me in my car. It's been an enduring love.
This is a great song from a great album. I saw him in Seattle when he was on the Night Moves tour in 1978, front row. And I just bought this CD 2 days ago. I love the honky tonk style piano in this, it fits perfectly!
This was the first album I ever bought. I left it in my car on a sunny summer day while I ate lunch at McDonald's, and came back to a warped vinyl disc.
Generation Gap- Absolutely love some Bob Seger. One of the greatest artists ever. He did it all. Great musician, Song writer, and singer. Please react to another great song of his Against The Wind. That is one of my favs.
He's such a great song writer, as far as genre id call it southern rock. Talking about teenage love, just got love his voice. I think he's really under appreciated.
actually seger sings about this that happened to him during high school. This girl's boyfriend was in the military and he hung out and dated this girl for a while. Amazing that it was a true story.
Night Moves is a double entendre, talking about night moves in the back seat of car when you're young and then at the end reflecting on the night of life coming. The last time I went to a drive in theater was 1976. I remember it well. I was 28 and young. In the late 50s and early 60s you could take a car load of people into the drive in for one price. I believe a dollar. There were 2 older feature films and a cartoon. I think the video stores of the 80s and 90s and now the internet have all but killed drive in theaters.
Seger's portfolio is gold. Go ahead and turn the page. (Originally, the speaker was removed from the pole and hung on the window. One of the chores for the Drive-in operator was reattaching the speaker when someone would forget to put the speaker back on the pole as they drove off.)
I hail from Long Prairie, MN. Home of one of the last drive-ins in the state, if not the country. Worked at a drive-in years ago. Gotta love a naughty teen song.
If you listen to it all without interruption, you'll really get that this is NOT a song about teenage lust -- it's actually a song about the entire life cycle -- from youth to middle age to death -- but you really can't get the emotional impact if you break it up -- you have to really experience the transition from that first part of the song to the second -- ultimately it's about remembrance, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter of the whole life cycle (the Winter is only implicated, not stated) -- it's VERY DEEP, VERY CONTEMPLATIVE. Felt the lightning, and then waiting on the thunder -- that is about TIME as well -- yes, TIME is the main theme of this song. Genuine poetry.
We still have the traditional drive inn. Twice a year they have dusk till dawn movies. Im only 4 yrs younger than you. Drive inns where a great place to hang out.
Bob Seger is a singer songwriter! Other great songs: Main Street, Against The Wind, Hollywood Nights, Turn The Page. It looks like this video was recorded in the early mid 90s, 20 years after the song was recorded.
Such a great song!! Shout out to the Midwest!! Coming from Michigan to write amazing songs!! Gotta check out “Hollywood Nights”, “Old Time Rock N Roll” (Risky Business 😉), “Turn The Page” (Shout out to the greatest city in the opening lyric!!), “Travelin Man/Beautiful Loser”, “Main Street” just to name a few!!
Hiding in the trunk and the ticket attendant checking to see how low the car was riding. I grew up near one and we would hop the back fence and all meet up at the concession stand. Then friends would have blankets and we've move up near the children's playground to watch the movie.(or try some night-moves)
My husband just loves this song. So, do I too. A song reminding us of our youth and curiosities, drive-in theatres, sometimes sneaking in (or trying to). Did you recognize a very young Joey ( tv show Friends)?
I'm 53 years old and I have never seen this video before, which is really weird, but you guys are both beautiful and it's pretty obvious that this song is about. I love Bob Segar, especially since I m from Michigan and that's where he's from and this song is a classic..,
Hearing you describe drive-in movies with speakers reminded me of doing "Sylvia's Mother" at an open mic and having to explain a pay phone to the younger folks in the audience. Hey, nice reaction.
I am 63. When I went to the drive-in as a child and even a teenager, you grow up beside the speaker which as she said was on the driver's side had to roll your window a little bit because the speaker booked on the window and the sound came through the speaker. There was no tuning in radio station then
Bob Seger with his Mid-western upbringing where family, work and religion was the foundation of the culture, he sings of the Mid-western experience like no other. He and Billy Joel are the main musicians that I most associate with for different reasons. It's sad but I can't remember the last time I was at a drive in, it seems like a lifetime ago. Other than maybe your slight over-infatuation with the Bee-Gees I'm digg'n your channel, even if the tune not my favorite it still stirs long forgotten memories. I'm much more chilled now but those days I was in an hormonal flux that prevented me from having an OFF switch, plus a bit of adrenaline junkie an those were interesting times, it;s amazing I survived.
Where I live there use to be a drive-in about .8 miles away next to a highway. We had a Prarie in the back of our house so we could see the drive in from our back yard. We would sneak through the Prarie and stay in the shadows and watch the movie. It was no problem hearing the sound because all the speakers were always on. Our drive ins didn't use radio stations until around the late 80's or mid 90's. I can't know for sure since the one that was behind our house was tore down to build an Eagles hardware store that quickly became a Lowes. But they were fun times in the 70's.
The video was made years later (Matt LeBlanc). The song was released in the days before MTV and most songs and artists never made videos at the time. Matt Leblanc would have been about 9 or 10 when this song came out.
Correct, this song from the album Night Moves was released in '76, but it wasn't until 1994 when the music video was made; btw, Matt LeBlanc was first featured in Bon Jovi's "Miracle" music video in 1990. This was his second music video.
I saw Bob Seger at a small club in Atlanta in the middle of the week and there were about 20 people in the audience. I saw him about 18 months later, also in Atlanta, at a stadium show that he headlined in front of about 60,000 screaming fans. The difference was the release of this song and this album.
Mom where did you go wrong? I blame you for the reason daughter hasn't heard this song lol;) great reaction I actually thought from the image of this vdeo "Which is my first time seeing you two:)" I thought you were sisters! Instant sub and belled
bob Seger didn't just write songs , he wrote stories that were set to music.
Absolutely the best way to put it.
Exactly😊

Bob Seager and The Silver Bullet Band are a classic rock band. He has sold over 72 million albums making him a legend. He is in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
And both of those honors are so very much earned and deserved. I love his music, and this is coming from a 74 year old geezer.
You can't define Bob Seger. He defines us.

A true genius songwriter
Love this video. Thanks to Bob, I’ve had a huge crush on Daphne Zuniga for many years.
Hi Mom Im with you, those old time drive ins. were the movies started out great but the endings were alittle hard to remember!!
That sounds like so much fun! 😊
@@generationgapreacts I for one would pick the brunette over the blonde any day. Just FYI hehe
Ahhhhh...coming of age...remember it well! 🤗
I appreciate your love towards my music hope you don’t stop liking my aspirations?
That is also Features Daphne Zuniga who starred in Melrose place for several season. As well as the Mel brooks movie Spaceballs
Momma Gap , you are taking us back. It was a lot of fun, even if you got kicked out.
It’s the great song that takes me back to great memories! 😃
I saw Bob Seger at a small club in Atlanta in the middle of the week and there were about 20 people in the audience. I saw him about 18 months later, also in Atlanta, at a stadium show that he headlined in front of about 60,000 screaming fans. The difference was the release of this song and this album.
The drive-ins was my generations version of social networking.
Drive-ins were the best
Yes, lots of great memories! 😊
Country Rock is what they call the combo of Rock and Country!
I believe around Baltimore Maryland there's a drive-in still operating.
Almost every Bob Seger song can be interpreted through the lens of middle-age nostalgia for youth.
Please give a listen to “Like a Rock”!! One of Bobs best songs
Mom where did you go wrong? I blame you for the reason daughter hasn't heard this song lol;) great reaction I actually thought from the image of this vdeo "Which is my first time seeing you two:)" I thought you were sisters! Instant sub and belled
They still have a drive in, in Door County, WI.
"...autumn closing in. So true.
