its still illegal but thankfully cops don't take it as seriously as they do in Ontario from what ive heard. Theyre pretty chill here in Quebec too about it
@@TheShakir98 In Canada there is no specific law saying it's illegal to remove emissions equipment. In my area, the law just states that the vehicle must have a muffler installed and removal of it can result in a small fine.
I picked up a 2013 Passat TDI I put the Flodirekt pipe on it and got a local guy here in Alberta to tune it. Fuel economy is amazing. 1100 to 1200 KM per tank of fuel. With the tune it certainly woke it up.
@Geoff240ti it had a def temp code and nox sensor code so I imagine it was in a sort of limp mode which made the base mileage worse then usual. But it will definitely pick some mileage up
I ordered the rawtek and darkside egr pipe. After reading all the reviews on the internet i figured that the extra the rawtek cost should be worth it. Everyone says the rawtek should last as long as the car.
I also change my oil at 5k. Dsg fluid every 30k. I woolwax the undercarriage. I intend on driving this car for a long time. So I went with the best exhaust I could find.
Deleting the dpf etc but keeping egr with malone tuning with dynamic egr. Helps keep you warm in winter warm up faster but shuts off once your up to temp. Better milage with the egr cause the tdi likes to be warm to be efficient. As per malone tuning with a year of testing.
Have you got anywhere to read about this? On these common rail cars they only have a cooler on the low pressure egr which to keep it would require modifying the downpipe to install the egr filter and i cant assume it would work very well without the exhaust flap modified in as well. The high pressure egr is easy to keep but theres A) no cooler B) the point of egr is to cool combustion which i think is the opposite affect of what were trying to achieve.
Talked to malone/tune zilla about it. Basically you just delete the egr filter and you can run dynamic egr. With the dpf delete exhaust. Here's the response I got. (Thanks for reaching out. If you are wanting to keep the dynamic EGR function, no need to change any of the plumbing for it. You can do the DPF delete and keep the EGR hardware as is in order to run the dynamic EGR. Hope that helps!)
Just deleted my 2011 Golf Wagon this past weekend. I used the flowdirekt kit which fit really well. It came with the Mr tune 22 and 55 hp tune. I may splice in a high flow cat at some point.
@@JoshsJettasI plan on doing just that, I took the little stub that was left from the kit and welded it onto the small cat. Just have to crawl under the car and put it in. Hopefully the exhaust gas is hot enough that far back
So with this pipe kit I figure straight pipe with resonator is sufficient and resonator just so you don’t get the drone noise is it necessary to include the cat?
If you just wait long enough, the EGR will happily delete itself. I just cleaned the intake on my mk6 TDI (CAYC) and found that the manifold's EGR inlet diffuser was just a few thousand miles away from being fully blocked.
Bought a 2012 TDI Passat with 106km one owner in mint condition. It was sold with a safety inspection here in Manitoba...2weeks after purchase Manitoba Public Insurance sent a registered letter saying it needed a second saftey inspection done....I bet $1000 they were checking for DPF avd DEF delete. It passed. 2nd owner and was Neutered fixed by VW in 2017. Still get NOX code every month or so.
I put the passat manifold on my car. Directly bolts on, just have to move some fuel lines out of the way to get it off. With a malone tune, and the actuator removed, no CEL. Super easy and good piece of mind knowing they're gone.
I got the ProfiDiesel Delete kit that came with the Cat delete. I like the kit and the Downpipe was close to the AC lines like the one in the video, but I got it to twist away. I have it installed onto a CKRA Passat and for $435 USD it was the cheapest kit around. I also got a block off plate from a local vendor for the high side EGR dirt cheap.
Cant best the price, when I twisted mine it brought the output lower which got to close to the steering rack. It fits and doesn’t hit anything so it is what it is, had to retrim the hanger after a week or so it must’ve moved some.
The hanger on mine is longer than the other, which hits the subframe. I bought a $2.65 USD Rubber bungee strap and cut a 2" piece and shoved it in between the hanger and the subframe and no more raddle/banging noise.@@JoshsJettas
I have a 2015, and there’s a sensor coming off my turbo, it’s plugged into a connection coming from above the fuel line, there are two other connections and I believe they were for the EGR/DPF. Im not sure if it should be plugged in to the first one like it is now and seems to run fine or if it should be in one of the other ones
What parts are needed for the egr delete? If they are just those diamond shape block off plates, I've made a bunch of them for ALH cars so I wonder how do you address the coolant line?
I have a video on both the high and low pressure systems on my common rail playlist. ALH plates on the exhaust manifold/intake, brm plate on the cooler if keeping, if not the turbo requires an expanding plug and 3/4” heater hose
I know this is an older video now, but I wanted to mention that Ailentech's Powergate 3+ is capable of tuning these cars. I'm inclined to buy one myself, but I'd like to know more about them on these cars first.
That’s what most tuners here use, issue is they’re company locked and vin locked as well. Search CJAA MR Tuning or ckra, I’ve done videos on both using the powergate
Thank you for the In depth info. Was considering buying a Sportwagen . Was toying with upgrading from My '97 Saab 9000. NOT anymore though. Which despite being older is FAR larger and of Much higher perf than even a v6 GTI. Seemingly ALL used Sportwagen examples (vancouver area) feature the Horrid DSG transbox abomination... which makes ownership Far More problematic/$$$ . When one adds in the Heavy $ costs of normal required (despite mods) VW maintenance, this becomes a Komplete waste of time and $. FAR smarter to simply buy a faster /simpler Car that is More Wallet friendly. Clear reason why VW is dying.
Is the mpg display in the dash still accurate after ? I always got 36 to 37 just to work and back. Even the long term #2 display I had I believe about 37 over a few thousand miles of just work and home. Longer trips I would get 42. I installed the rawtek and the way home from work I got 42. I'll check the next few tanks to see for sure.
@bobirving6052 I forgot to record miles before, But I rest number 2 trip when I topped it off last time, I have 261 miles, 8 hours 16 mins, 39.9 mpg. That's just work and back, as I said I will confirm this when I fill it. Probably a week or two yet, If I hadn't forgot the time before I would of already known.
I am willing to do the dpf snd egr delete on my 13 tdi sport wagon but my question is can I leave all the piping on the exhaust and just open up the carcass and remove the honeycombs and reweld the cats? Will rhis be ok and the tune will remove the components and check engine light?
Yes it could be cut open and gutted, the money you get to recycle the dpf and cat is more then some downpipe cost so the extra work isn’t worth it in my eyes unless you need stock appearance.
I have a 2013 a3. About 2 years ago I did a dsg tune with karma, I am looking into Mr tune stage 2 and a dark side delete. Do you know if the dsg tune has to match the engine tune or does it matter?
Josh - all this info is super helpful. I own 2 2014 VW sportswagens and have one that needs dog and eye service (check engine light is on). Since I live in state with emissions tests I’m looking to not go the delete route. You mentioned at the top of the video that your parts were out getting repaired. Do you have more info on how to repair these versus buying new?
The issue with the cjaa (the engine in the Sportswagen) is the dpf cracks which can’t be repaired. If you have any soot in the tail pipe then it’s cracked and will require replacement. The def equipped Passats as well as all 2015’s seem to hold up better but then you end up with def component issues. If it’s plugged it can be baked, any truck repair shop should have a contact which can do that. But you’ll need to fix the reason it plugged as well.
My 2014 passat has an exhaust flap just prior to the muffler. Do I need to unhook the connection for it or remove it. Would it be OK just to leave it alone and connect the new pipes to it?
Hey, I've got a quick question: would it be at all possible to just use a sazzaw to cut the DFP off and straight pipe a 2.5 pipe where the DFP would have gone? And save a lot of money this way? Or is this not possible? Sorry it this is an ignorant question im just trying to find out everything i can and what is the simplest idea.
Hey i just deleted my car (CKRA) Passat 2014 Sel , now when i ordered my kit i wasnt sure if i needed the egr cooler delete so i ordered it anyway . I only blocked off the parts on the back side an didn't do anything with front yet . Is that ok to run it like that ? Also what is the big rubber grommet for that comes in the kit it has a bolt on one side for tightening down ?
As long as the coolers not leaking that’s perfectly fine, front / high pressure egr too. The big rubber grommet would be used if deleting the cooler, it goes in the turbo inlet to block where the exhaust is fed into the turbo.
What exacty this delete and tune delete? Is it just the dpf or is it the egr as well? Looking to see exactly what i am getting into and will need for the job. Was looking to get the stage 2 with the the coolant bypass for a 2014 VW jetta TDi sedan.
Hi mate. Im not doing a dpf delete but i had a leak between the turbo and the dpf. For the life of me i can not get the new band clamp that goes oger the turbo and dpf to reach, allowing me to screw it in. I was wondering of you have an suggestions on how to do it? I currently have a 75mm band clamp but if i went for the 86mm one would k It work?
It can be a pain but you need to make sure the dpf flange and turbo flange are completely mated, you can have it look like it’s close but you set the v band on it it’s still to far away. Another option would be a longer allen bolt to help pull it together, I forget the size but it’s a common bolt.
Hi thanks for the videos. Quick Question I have the EOC dpf delete kit and stage 2 tune for my 2011 TDI Jetta. Do I need the EGR delete kit as well or will it work without it?
The eoc kit will come with 1 egr blocker meant for the cooler. You’ll remove the downpipe and egr filter and install the blocker where the egr filter went onto the cooler. Cooler stays intact and the high pressure egr to the intake stays intact as well.
Wouldn’t be a terrible idea to get the turbo-down pipe gasket and v band clamp. Also if your in the rust belt a 2.5” band clamp to bolt the new downpipe to the existing exhaust.
There are several vid on RUclips. There are special chemicals that you put into the DPF and run the car. Some of the DIY is using something like ovon cleaner or alloy wheel cleaner.
JOSH!!! I made a special tool (that should exist but didn't) and I am not going to need it ever again but i am sure it will be useful to you. I have no idea how to send it. Please give me advice on how to go about mailing it.
In your experience, which kit is quiet? I have two babies I need to transport but need to delete my TDI as it’s plagued with failing emissions…. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Most kits all join into the rear muffler, they sound very similar to stock besides a touch more turbo whistle. This is my wife's car and she doesnt seem to mind it (the baby either).
I got in touch with tunezilla in Houston and they told me they can't do a diesel delete tune. My jetta tdi is throwing codes all over and the first one that came in was the dpf. It clears after you start running it but then I started hearing the engine get louder and then threw another code about the manifold gasket. I did what you said about checking the pipe for soot and there is some there now. Any advice on what to do for a tune if I delete the dpf?
I’ve got a playlist on CR TDI’s, in there I’ve done at home tuning using the flashzilla pro from tunezilla to do engine and trans tuning. If you got further back I’ve also done tuning using the powergate v3 from MR Tuning. All the tuning videos went quite a ways in-depth on how to do it
Hi, i have a question. I have golf 6 1.6tdi 77kw it has dpf and cat still in exhaust, it does regenerations and other stuff fine looks like. But i have that black soot at the end of exhaust just like yours, so it means my dpf is cracked or something so i have to look after it ?
We didnt get them here but im assuming its cracked and might throw a code in the future? Although the emissions requirements might be easier so there might be a slight amount of soot allowed?
Hi Josh! I have a 2013 with 192k miles (310k km) and my dpf is dead....Here in Quebec...No emission things, so I can delete dpf/egr impunitively....Do you think it would be befinificial for the car...?
Hi Josh, random quick question my computer died when I was uploading my tune file to my PG3, will this have any risk on my ECU? I plugged in my computer and re uploaded it. Thanks in advance
You can call removing it bad but the fact of the matter is that the DPF systems still put out chemicals. The DPF DEF system also reduces fuel efficiency by 50% compared to European vehicles and the only people that benefit are the fuel/oil companies taking your money. Fuel efficiency isn't and wasn't ever a part of emissions testing on any vehicle for the past 30 or so years. --it's all been one giant scam. In BC, Canada the shop I worked for would have to make vehicles barely drivable to pass emissions testing and we later found out about multiple cases where the government facility wasn't purging their test equipment to force people to spend more on testing...basically forced illegal taxing.
I won’t disagree, straight emissions out the tail pipe it’s obviously worse but overall emissions from extra fuel, def, def containers, parts and sensors, shortened vehicle life span that’s a different story. You’ve got people paying top dollar and fixing these older vehicles (alh/pd TDI’s) to avoid these emissions issues but I have a hard time believing the newer ones with some modifications are any worse then those.
@@JoshsJettas When I see MPG Liters per hundred k improve on new vehicles… One point I don’t think either of us made is that the restricting of diesel motors flow leads to the earlier failing of parts too. IE cracked heads, more use of precious metals, etc..
Is the DPF installed if you don't have the exhaust Adblue fluid ?? I'm wondering because I have a Mexican version of the 2.0 Jetta dsg and it doesn't have ad blue
Without annual inspections only other way would be road side. We have MTO/MOE officers (similar to DOT) as well as police which do road side inspections on commercial and modified vehicles, usually a decent fine along with plates pulled and requirement to fix it.
First of all thank you. I have two MKVI SW’s and we love the cars. You answered so many questions for me. However why not just put the original tune back on the car? The tune before VW got busted that is.
Im not sure where you’d find the original tune? Either way an “emissions intact” tune from any of these companies will be better then the original vw tune. Although if your staying emissions intact you’ll still run into the intercooler icing and cracked dpf issues
It was just something I heard that people were doing with these cars, but perhaps they just meant a different tune. Anyhow thanks again for providing your knowledge, I do appreciate it.
@@JoshsJettas one more question my adblue is red as in SCR blocked mode because I was driving past the mileage trying to get home sensor went out will it still delete with tune?
@@JoshsJettasnope don’t spread misinformation I’ve deleted dozens of these cars without tuning and they don’t go into limp mode they have way more power actually and roll a bit of coal with the stock tuning you just need to put the o2 sensor in the pipe if you don’t it will limp
Josh, an unrelated comment. Have you ever had any issues with wipers not working on cold day? If so, whats the fix. Ive put in a couple wiper motors now, and every winter same issues. Wipers dont work at all on real cold day. Sometimes after driving a while they work. Any ideas or thoughts. No wipers werent frozen to windshield. Thanks man! This kit is going on my 2012 jetta tdi next!
My wife’s older tdi it seemed the wipers would stop working come winter. Hers would move slowly before stopping, ended up being the wiper transmission was partially seized, not sure if water and ice were getting into it and making it tighter. I put a few used wiper transmissions in it.
The smirk while you said its just for information purposes it's going back to stock. would suggest otherwise 😂 and i would also say why deal with expensive dpf and egr issues leave it deleted
Straight pipe back to the stock muffler sounds almost stock with a touch more turbo whistle. If you weren’t familiar with TDI’s I’d say you’d think it’s a stock car.
Sorry I’m not familiar with the area, I’d would either a) look at the Malone/tunezilla dealer network and stop in person if locally or b) look up the trusted tdi mechanics link on tdi club
@@JoshsJettas by any chance do you have a video of a drive by, because im planning on doing a downpipe and leaving the factory muffler in place, but im not sure how loud would it be. Thanks

Hey just came across your video here. RUclips must have been tracking me to know i will want to delete my 12 golf tdi soon. Lol. Tuning and exhaust wise? I really want to do a twin pipe setup like a golf r
Flowdirekt makes a very nice kit imo, very few welds and all mandrel bent, it goes back to the stock piping/muffler at the fuel tank but then from there back you can modify it to straight pipe or dual pipes like the R. Tuning im impartial, ive recently got malone/tunezilla as well so im going to compare them to the current MR Tuning set up here shortly.
@JoshsJettas I bought the pro. It can do the dsg also. And I had emailed them before purchase, in the reply they made it sound like the v3 will be discontinued and the pro will be the only offer, I don't know how soon but I got the pro and it was very easy to use.
@JoshsJettas I initially did the adblue and stage 1. And dsg. I paid 500 for the adblue and stage 1. It will not cost me any more to do the dpf and egr, already confirmed because I purchased that also and it cost me 0.
Right so with the pro tool you can purchase from the app itself and skip dealing with rawtek? The pro doesn’t support some older models so I’m not sure how quickly they’ll get rid of the v3
@JoshsJettas I bought the tunes in the app. It is saved in my account so I can change to another tune and just pay the difference. I bought the stage 1. $500. If I decided to get the stage 2 it would cost me $50 more.
What is your opinion of a Kerma TDI tune for a CJAA? I recently acquired a 2011 Golf TDI, manual, 90k mi, w/ rebuilt title and want it to be an economical commuter. I drive about 50 min. at HWY speeds and do not anticipate issues w/ DPF. I also do not want a loud exhaust that makes travel unbearable. Would you still recommend a pothole & tune over the Kerma? Thanks for the content, helps a ton.
The Kerma TDI tune is nice. It gives a little more power and the dpf is in regen less often. No smoke, nothing crazy. Perfect if you want to keep the dpf!!
I don’t work on these full time but my experience is it’s not if the dpf is going to fail it’s when is it going to fail. If you live in an area that a delete is a grey area (ie not California) then I would get emissions intact tuning through tunezilla or Mr tuning and if the dpf fails then do the delete and just pay the difference. Straight pipe back to the stock muffler sounds near stock, if you didn’t drive it everyday you’d think it was stock.
@@JoshsJettas the way the folks at kerma explained it to me is the dpf is at a slightly higher temp which helps it not regen as much, and improves performance and gas mileage.
Thank you both for the replies. I appreciate the info, either way I anticipate a tune in my future as I'm not giddy about the current fuel economy. 36-38 hwy ish if you set the cruise and drive. In a matchbox car with a diesel and a stick, that isn't enough to get me excited. If I work it, I can squeeze about 43 out of it. Still servicing it up so hopefully that will improve w/ fuel filter. If you take that trip to Florida and compare tunes, I will be very interested to see what you find for mpgs.
@@ryankobilansky2500 I get about 45 mpg. Also, another thing about the tune is you can’t romp on it all the time because the clutch was not designed to have quite as much power. I’ve heard of people having issues with that. I haven’t experienced it, but I don’t drive to the potential of the tune. I enjoy the fuel mileage boost and some power when I need it. Hope you have a good experience!!
To the “enthusiast” I’d agree, most people regular people don’t want modified cars especially if the modifications are questionably legal. That being said TDI owners are usually a niche market.
washington state doesn’t do any emissions testing ironically enough since they call themselves the “green state” deleted golf with air kerma cold intake and tune is getting more mpg than a prius with waaaay more power and torque. run bio in it once in a while (yes i know what to watch for with bio)
It’s really amazing the mpg they pick up once tuned. You’d think they’d compare overall emissions from making more diesel, making def, all the plastic jugs vs just tail pipe
I am curious what your thought would be and if you think this EGR delete trick could be applied to a MK6 VW 2.0 TDI CJAA. Basically it's adding a resistor to one of the wires going to the MAF that tricks the EGR into not opening because it "thinks" the temperature is too low. ruclips.net/video/h5o3OYi9Hvc/видео.html
Hey, egr intact the oil mixes with soot and makes that sticky gummy soot that clogs everything. If you could just get soot without oil it would be less sticky and less prone to clog the intake. Deleted I don’t think it would make as big of a difference but it would never hurt. I’ve personally never ran one, just routed stock.
Hey josh, got a 2012 jetta myself, left it sit for a couple months and the battery was dead when i got back, ended up jumping it but started for about 2 seconds then shuts off…another interesting thing the windows dont roll down and car wont lock or unlock.any suggestions would help man
I have heard that with removing the battery for an extended period or dead battery will confuse the immobilizer. The key symbol on gauges will flash when this happens. Try another key if you have one.
Get a known good battery in it and leave the key in the on position for a bit and see if it smartens up. Also when swapping battery leave it unhooked for a half hour or so.
@@JoshsJettas Thanks for the Vids. Helpful. I am jumping in the deep end. I hate exhaust work but it's all bolt off / on. The tight access, stuck connectors, bolts, clamps is what I dread. Thanks.
Depends on what kind of inspection and what kind of tune. Visually it’ll fail. OBD it depends, as its an “off-road” tune some tuners will set readiness to not ready so it’ll fail but some will force readiness which means it’d pass.
Diesels are better than gas for the environment also def doesnt make any sense only for the government it does. Plastic def tubes good for environment ? Def is equipped to make the government look like they care about diesel polutents but really its to suffocate the diesel motor for reliableity issues and lower mpgs. More money for $$ government all about the money not the environment
You can’t deny the emissions components work well when they work. It definitely helps there directly but yes more fuel needed for regen, shorter life span, plastic def jugs and cardboard boxes, long term does it make sense?
It’s stupid how much they want for these parts.. the dpf egr filter is literally a 25 dollar part sold for 500, the aftermarket delete pipe is literally 55 bucks in materials.. sold for over a grand. You know the real problem is the Germans are smarter than the American EPA officials, for an example.. if a gallon of diesel fuel takes lets say 500 cubic feet of air to burn clean properly and creates lets say 800 cubic feet of dirty emissions and one can get 100 miles on one gallon of fuel.. then the epa steps in and the update as I own a cjaa jetta and know for a fact I went from 62 average to 22 mpg, at the end the day I still need to travel lets say 200 miles.. the emissions dirtiness would have to be cut in more than half to ultimately be cleaner for the environment.. but instead I now burn 9 gallons of fuel to drive and out out 7200 cubic feet of a tad cleaner air that still would not have passed emissions at time of production "2012".. it only comes out worse.. id rather 1, save money on 4.29 a gallon diesel, 2 put out 1600 cubic feet of dirty air vs 7200 for the same miles.. I know these numbers are off some but do you get my point? 100 miles at 62 mpg =1.6 gallons of fuel, diesel stoichiometric A/F is 15:1, so that comes to roughly around 30,000 cubic feet of emissions "based on temp, throttle amount, and a lot of other things, but back to my point, after "update" check light on all the damn time, and to travel the same 100 miles is now 4.5 gallons of fuel at the reduced to 22 average mpg now, which is 84,300 cubic feet of emissions. And an additional 3 gallons of fuel at 4.29 a gallon.. weight the pros and cons.. Germans had it figured out, Americans chose ignorance and greed over progress....
Stevenson tuning........hmmmm...... I don't have good feelings about Stevenson anymore. He is up there on the reservation thinking he can do whatever he wants. And he thinks he is far enough away from anyone to ever have to deal with or see a customer in person when he does not deliver for them. I came to him as a customer with a 2011 MK6 Jetta looking to do a delete for fuel economy and obviously DPF delete. He wrote a tune and I passed my state inspection but fuel economy is equal to but certainly not better than stock. To keep a long story short here, the very first few tunes he wrote me was giving me over 50 miles to the gallon City, high 50s Highway. That Tune however was giving me an overboost code, it took over 9 months and multiple versions of the tune for him to finally give up on improving fuel economy. Then instead of Stevens him himself like a man, sent one of his dingbat underlings to tell me that I was getting poor fuel economy because it was cold (winter). Really then why do we have a cold air intake on our TDIs? (Sure Sub-Zero temperatures are no good (but here in the Mid-Atlantic states in December at that time it wasn't colder than 40°)) If cold air is really that bad wouldn't we have a warm air intake instead of a cold air intake? And another thing that dingbat underling tried telling me was that I never got over 50 miles to the gallon, he said that's impossible.. I sent him pictures and screenshots of receipts showing that I have empirical data proving I got well over 50 MPG and that shows me filling up just north of Baltimore and then not filling up again until south of Atlanta Stevenson tuning called me a liar. So choose Stevenson tuning only if you're okay with just getting by and not expecting him to go the extra mile and figure out problems if you have any. Basically if he does a tune for you he's only going to give you the bare minimum and give up instead of taking the time to get it dialed in and figured out.
The DPF does not create significant back pressure, nor do the emissions components inhibit horsepower. That is why the Malone tunes are rated for the same power with, or without the delete. But don’t take my word for it, take a look at DPF differential pressure data from an emissions equipped vehicle. Data doesn’t lie. The DPF doesn’t cause any more restriction than an air filter, but you wouldn’t run without that, would you? Not saying anyone should or should not delete their vehicle, but knowledge of the system is important.
There was a touch of sarcasm when mentioning the "high flow" downpipe. For a stock 140-180hp 4 cylinder diesel I agree your not going to see a big change in power, mileage can be debatable depending on driving habits/active regen requirements. Personally I wouldnt be deleting just for the fun of it but once you get into after treatment repairs ($1700 for dpf/egr filter such as in this case) it makes it a tough choice.
@@THEROADSMITH in a naturally aspirated setup, yes. However, this isn’t. Your EMAP is probably right around, if not a little more than your IMAP. So an engine exhausting into 2 BAR isn’t going to be affected much by the 100 millibar following it.

I also change my oil at 5k. Dsg fluid every 30k. I woolwax the undercarriage. I intend on driving this car for a long time. So I went with the best exhaust I could find.
They definitely use heavier steel for the initial down pipe, I think as long as the weld quality is good most pipes will be trouble free
I wanted to try and keep the second cat and see if it knocks down some of the smell but it seemed to be more work then it was worth
The malone stage 1 is a ridiculous amount of torque for a car this size. I like it.
This is the way! I deleted mine at 75,000 miles.
The tunezilla gives you access to the tunes lower than yours. So a stage 3 tune gives you access to .5, 1, and 2.
Yeah it’s only going to get more strict sadly, they’re really efficient cars otherwise
Those Sneaky Pete's!
This is so cool, i want to try but I have sooo many questions. Imma have to do a lot of research.
‘DPF and cat are going back in it’ 😂 C-Y-A
got that right
Why???
I have malone stage 2 and rawteck max performance kit. Im having code’s thrown is there anyway i can contact u for help?
Josh, love the content. I own two MK6 TDI's. Would love to see a swirl flap delete video.
Im working on sourcing a ckra tdi intake for that
@@JoshsJettas so the Passat intakes don't have swirl flaps?
Yes, no flaps on those, I think it’s a better setup vs the flap deletes.
I put the passat manifold on my car. Directly bolts on, just have to move some fuel lines out of the way to get it off. With a malone tune, and the actuator removed, no CEL. Super easy and good piece of mind knowing they're gone.
@@chrisa2796 any easy way to source one?
Dude god bless you, you are helping us all so much
I got the ProfiDiesel Delete kit that came with the Cat delete. I like the kit and the Downpipe was close to the AC lines like the one in the video, but I got it to twist away.
I have it installed onto a CKRA Passat and for $435 USD it was the cheapest kit around. I also got a block off plate from a local vendor for the high side EGR dirt cheap.
Where can I buy it?
Cant best the price, when I twisted mine it brought the output lower which got to close to the steering rack. It fits and doesn’t hit anything so it is what it is, had to retrim the hanger after a week or so it must’ve moved some.
The hanger on mine is longer than the other, which hits the subframe. I bought a $2.65 USD Rubber bungee strap and cut a 2" piece and shoved it in between the hanger and the subframe and no more raddle/banging noise.@@JoshsJettas
Did that kit end up needing more pipe like the cheaper Profi kit?
It was long enough for my Passat TDI, which had to remove the SCR pipe.@@kevinmiller318
I know Stevenson tunes are hit or miss but why didn’t you include the Stevensons dpf delete? They are also one of the few who have a 3” option
I wish u were closer. I need this. Im sick of all my jetta codes always. Dpf codes. Now p048c. Always something.
Hard to beat the simplicity, aftertreatment systems kinda killed these cars
@@JoshsJettas i think im just gonna pull the trigger, get tune and dpf delete. Its gotta be better than what i got going.
Hey man I’m getting the typical p02002 p04001 code will a delete take care of these codes ? Will the check engine light be on after a delete ?
Yup, will need to physically remove the dpf/cat then the tune takes care of the codes/check engine light
@poellot
What mileage did you get?
@bobirving6052 I forgot to record miles before, But I rest number 2 trip when I topped it off last time, I have 261 miles, 8 hours 16 mins, 39.9 mpg. That's just work and back, as I said I will confirm this when I fill it. Probably a week or two yet,
If I hadn't forgot the time before I would of already known.
Just topped it off today. The dash display said 39.6. My math said 37.87
So gained a little but not as much as it says.
Question for you,
Can you plate off just the high pressure EGR and tune the car or will that cause problems with the DPF? 2013 sport wagon 2.0L.
You’d have to discuss that with the tuner, I’m not sure how that’ll affect the dpf and nox cat regens.
Where to go for 2014 Q5 tdi, for reasonable price and good fit. I don't need extra power, just free of bs associated with tdi.
When deleting the egr cooler and re-routing coolant lines, will it leak fluid? is there a risk of getting air in the lines or anything to be aware of?
Yes itll pour coolant out, lines need to be clamped and re-connected or drain all the coolant out
My 2014 passat has an exhaust flap just prior to the muffler. Do I need to unhook the connection for it or remove it. Would it be OK just to leave it alone and connect the new pipes to it?
its a V band connection, most kits come with a slip joint which will join to the factory tail section
So if I get the profidiesel down pipe and everything then I would get the mrtuning tuner right? Because I’m doing that now
Yes, you would need a low pressure egr block plate too for the egr cooler
Is there a gasket in between the turbo and the downpipe ? And if so can we reuse the original one
Gasket and clamp can be re-used, in a perfect world should be replaced but with a “high flow downpipe” it’ll be fine
You’ll need 2 90’s and a couple 45’s. They aren’t bad but it’s pretty tight to get it lined up in the trans tunnel
So just blocking of the back egr and tune shuts down all egr?
Exactly
Any benifits to removing cooler?
More room on the backside and less chance for leaks. If it’s not leaking I don’t think it’s worth the time removing.
What exacty this delete and tune delete? Is it just the dpf or is it the egr as well? Looking to see exactly what i am getting into and will need for the job. Was looking to get the stage 2 with the the coolant bypass for a 2014 VW jetta TDi sedan.
Yes dpf and egr, the egr is electronically deleted so it only requires the blocker plate on the cooler
@JoshsJettas thank you!
You must have one of the last tuned cjaa without the beautiful cp3 retrofit... cp3=bullet proof.. best tdi ever made!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve done a belt in one with 520k km with original cp4. I think I’m just going to do the disaster prevention kit and carry on.
cp3 can and does fail to
I remember a bunch of “reman” pumps failing last winter/spring. Atleast they don’t take the fuel system out
Hi mate. Im not doing a dpf delete but i had a leak between the turbo and the dpf. For the life of me i can not get the new band clamp that goes oger the turbo and dpf to reach, allowing me to screw it in. I was wondering of you have an suggestions on how to do it? I currently have a 75mm band clamp but if i went for the 86mm one would k
It work?
It can be a pain but you need to make sure the dpf flange and turbo flange are completely mated, you can have it look like it’s close but you set the v band on it it’s still to far away. Another option would be a longer allen bolt to help pull it together, I forget the size but it’s a common bolt.
Did you have to completely remove the passenger axle or just unbolt it from the transmission? I have an automatic that I cannot get the DPF out.
Completely out, it comes out the trans tunnel tight
Hi thanks for the videos. Quick Question I have the EOC dpf delete kit and stage 2 tune for my 2011 TDI Jetta. Do I need the EGR delete kit as well or will it work without it?
The eoc kit will come with 1 egr blocker meant for the cooler. You’ll remove the downpipe and egr filter and install the blocker where the egr filter went onto the cooler. Cooler stays intact and the high pressure egr to the intake stays intact as well.
Josh I just bought the flowdirek 140 for my 2013 sportwagon. have you installed one of these? are all the parts I need in this kit?
Wouldn’t be a terrible idea to get the turbo-down pipe gasket and v band clamp. Also if your in the rust belt a 2.5” band clamp to bolt the new downpipe to the existing exhaust.
Do u have to drop subframe to take old dpf out and get the new downpipe in?
Nope, I’ve got videos in my playlists on doing this both on Jetta/golf and Passat, it’s tight but it fits out the trans tunnel
What is the best route to get the DPF unclog! I can afford the delete kit?
There are several vid on RUclips. There are special chemicals that you put into the DPF and run the car. Some of the DIY is using something like ovon cleaner or alloy wheel cleaner.
@@mottomanic the only and real way to do is to take it out, open it up and flush it completely.
JOSH!!! I made a special tool (that should exist but didn't) and I am not going to need it ever again but i am sure it will be useful to you. I have no idea how to send it. Please give me advice on how to go about mailing it.
Hey, send me an email at joshthring21@live.ca
Josh since rawtek is out. What pipe and tune do u recommend for my off road tdi buggy?
Flowdirekt or mec evo has nice downpipes, tuning is either Mr tuning or tunezilla
Better mileage, less heat from required regens, more power. Downsides besides legal issues would be longer warm ups from the lack of egr cooler.
Hi Josh, random quick question my computer died when I was uploading my tune file to my PG3, will this have any risk on my ECU? I plugged in my computer and re uploaded it. Thanks in advance
Hey sorry for the late reply, I believe the pg3 is forgiving but the car ecu won’t be. If it goes onto the pg3 fine you should be set
@@JoshsJettas When I see MPG Liters per hundred k improve on new vehicles…
One point I don’t think either of us made is that the restricting of diesel motors flow leads to the earlier failing of parts too. IE cracked heads, more use of precious metals, etc..
Is the DPF installed if you don't have the exhaust Adblue fluid ?? I'm wondering because I have a Mexican version of the 2.0 Jetta dsg and it doesn't have ad blue
Some had just DPF and some had DPF and scr/adblue fluid. The passats here have adblue whereas the jettas dont
Can I get the darkside egr and dpf kit and then tune with mr? Will I get any CEL?
yup you can mix and match, some require a egt sensor in the downpipe but you can talk to your tuner with however your pipe is set up.
Can you recommend anyone in Windsor, Ontario area who will remove then reinstall DPF after i get it cleaned. Thanks in advance.
I’m not real familiar with any shops down there, sorry
Texas and other states dont have emmision testing on diesels.so if you delete your car , how do they know you did a delete?
The original tune is not as good. It can get 50mpg. Also it will go into limp mode with flashing glow-plug light.
Do you need to install a tune before deleting and installing exhaust?
It’s going to require a tune, I’d recommend doing it first Incase you have an issue with the file or flash device
Does the .05 tune with the EGR DPF and Def delete work on both EGR’s
Yup if you select the delete it removes both
@@JoshsJettas one more question my adblue is red as in SCR blocked mode because I was driving past the mileage trying to get home sensor went out will it still delete with tune?
I have a off road 09 tdi race car do you need to tune when it is deleted
Yes it’ll go into a sort of limp mode and assuming your using oem fan controls the fans run even with key off
@@JoshsJettasnope don’t spread misinformation I’ve deleted dozens of these cars without tuning and they don’t go into limp mode they have way more power actually and roll a bit of coal with the stock tuning you just need to put the o2 sensor in the pipe if you don’t it will limp
Besides the legality mileage and simplicity can’t be beat once deleted
Quick question. After the delete what the sound difference? I like a quiet ride, I don't want a loud exhaust.
Straight pipe back to the stock muffler sounds almost stock with a touch more turbo whistle. If you weren’t familiar with TDI’s I’d say you’d think it’s a stock car.
What a bout a golf tdi with a GTI Muffler? Will this be noisy?
Honestly even straight pipe they aren’t, I think any muffler will take the sound out if that’s what your after
Fuel economy after delete???
Hey Josh, I'm in NC and want to delete DPF & EGR of my 2012 Passat TDI. Do you can recommend any tuning shop around here to perform that?
Sorry I’m not familiar with the area, I’d would either a) look at the Malone/tunezilla dealer network and stop in person if locally or b) look up the trusted tdi mechanics link on tdi club
Where in NC are you?
Hi. After removing all sensors which we are not gonna use it would remain opening after disconnecting.?
yes they stay open, smear some di-electric grease in there to keep moisture out
Ok one mor question. After instaling delete kit can i drive the car to shop about 15-18 miles for final tune.?
@gheorghiipunga9473 yup that’ll be fine
Does it still have the factory muffler at the back or is it straight piped?
All the downpipes go to the factory clamp near the muffler. This one stayed muffler intact.
@@JoshsJettas by any chance do you have a video of a drive by, because im planning on doing a downpipe and leaving the factory muffler in place, but im not sure how loud would it be. Thanks
It sounds near stock but with more turbo whistle, I’ll try and grab a video this weekend
Can i delete only EGR and keep the DPF?
I never really liked the hoodstack option, but dear god its so much cheaper. Since its dumping straight from the turbo no need for an egr plug or am i mistaken?
The Profi diesel is very close and atleast a full exhaust. Either way your going to need the low pressure block off plate for the cooler.
Hey just came across your video here. RUclips must have been tracking me to know i will want to delete my 12 golf tdi soon. Lol. I need to do a timing belt but have been thinking about deleting and tuning ever since i bought the car. Miss my 16 Treg deleted and tuned.
Whats the best setup in your opinion for these cars? Tuning and exhaust wise? I really want to do a twin pipe setup like a golf r
Flowdirekt makes a very nice kit imo, very few welds and all mandrel bent, it goes back to the stock piping/muffler at the fuel tank but then from there back you can modify it to straight pipe or dual pipes like the R. Tuning im impartial, ive recently got malone/tunezilla as well so im going to compare them to the current MR Tuning set up here shortly.
From tunzilla you can change to a new tune and only pay the difference, if any. If you buy the tunzilla tune from rawtek can you do that?
I haven’t done it that way but I can see why you couldn’t. Did you use the flashzilla v3 or the pro tool?
Your wrong on resale. Absolutely people ask more money for deleted cars. Now idk if they get that money but they all sell from what I see.
You’d think they’d compare overall emissions from making more diesel, making def, all the plastic jugs vs just tail pipe
the dpf cloged and my turbo blew DELETE YOURs NOW!!!!!

Do they now make the tune “vin specific”? I believe these cars also communicate over the mobile networks.
@bobirving6052 they are vin specific but these cars are too old for talking to the dealers automatically
Hi Josh!
Where is the best place to recycle/sell the stock emissions parts in Ontario? Hit a pot hole on the terrible roads and it all fell off!!
I actually shipped mine to a guy off of the TDI facebook pages, NS cores LLC. He covered shipping and was quite responsive
Nice description, Nice video..... Is there benefit to having an OIL CATCH CAN in a system before or after this type of delete??
Tom in TEXAS
Deleting the diesel? deleting the vehicle? You mean DPF? EGR?
Dpf/both egrs/cats
@@JoshsJettas Thanks for the Vids. Helpful. I am jumping in the deep end. I hate exhaust work but it's all bolt off / on. The tight access, stuck connectors, bolts, clamps is what I dread. Thanks.
@gmcjetpilot i know what you mean but it’s surprisingly easy as far as exhaust work goes. Worst part is rusty bolts/clamps/sensors
Does it Pass inspection after dpf delete?
Depends on what kind of inspection and what kind of tune. Visually it’ll fail. OBD it depends, as its an “off-road” tune some tuners will set readiness to not ready so it’ll fail but some will force readiness which means it’d pass.
be careful buddy EPA might black list your VIN, the only good TDIs are mk4 downwards
It went back to emissions intact, hopefully no issues. Sadly most mk4’s around here are pretty rusty or beat.
100 miles at 62 mpg =1.6 gallons of fuel, diesel stoichiometric A/F is 15:1, so that comes to roughly around 30,000 cubic feet of emissions "based on temp,
throttle amount, and a lot of other things, but back to my point, after "update" check light on all the damn time, and to travel the same 100 miles is now 4.5 gallons of fuel at the reduced to 22 average mpg now, which is 84,300 cubic feet of emissions. And an additional 3 gallons of fuel at 4.29 a gallon.. weight the pros and cons.. Germans had it figured out, Americans chose ignorance and greed over progress....
No. You’re still falling for the lie. Don’t argue the facts.
They are just enforcers. Secret Tax, enforcers.
(Sure Sub-Zero temperatures are no good (but here in the Mid-Atlantic states in December at that time it wasn't colder than 40°))
If cold air is really that bad wouldn't we have a warm air intake instead of a cold air intake?
Cold does have a huge impact on diesel fuel economy. Even 25%
That's why I love Texas. Fk emissions and diesels down here don't have to have emissions and some places dgaf about cats or full exhaust. Love it. 😂
They're fairly lenient up here as well but doesn't mean its not illegal just not enforced
Haha. Nobody cares in Australia, infact you can get deletes professionally done here. Lol. Mine goes "choooo"
The provinces all vary here in Canada, you can find companies with street signs advertising deletes in Alberta.
Temp
Just delete it. EPA SUX
If it gets clogged, that’s more restrictive no matter what you say.
Good ones will be 100 and used 300 millibar. So nearly 5psi. That’s a lot of airflow
@@THEROADSMITH in a naturally aspirated setup, yes. However, this isn’t. Your EMAP is probably right around, if not a little more than your IMAP. So an engine exhausting into 2 BAR isn’t going to be affected much by the 100 millibar following it.
You left out Stevenson
I haven't used them personally and have seen a few reviews where issues couldn't be resolved without switching tuners so i was a little hesitant including them in there
@@JoshsJettas i personally have no experience with them either. I just finished using the mrtuning and flowdirekt
Wow, this video was painful to watch.
I will not buy another diesel because of the high cost of parts. They cost to much to keep them on the road.
Sounds like you have one of those electric bikes then. Or are those pretty high cost to maintence too?
@@DdoubleEE726 I did commute by bicycle for four years, and did not own a car at the time. 32 miles round trip. Very little maintenance cost. Than had a $500 Toyota that had very little maintenance cost.
Informative but wow very boring
Can you please send a contact email?
I have a 2013 a3. About 2 years ago I did a dsg tune with karma, I am looking into Mr tune stage 2 and a dark side delete. Do you know if the dsg tune has to match the engine tune or does it matter?
Doesn’t matter

nope you should be good, id just mention to the engine tuner that it is already dsg tuned
