Mike, really good analysis. I happen to have a 911S and really love it but always wondered (perhaps longed for) how a 4S wound be different. My driving feelings are substantially similar to your comments about the S. BTW, just ran into your reviews by accident this morning and have subscribed as you offer insights only someone with your access and ability to compare has. I feel it will help me in evaluating alternatives for my next Porsche.
I own a Carrera 4S and the rear end will easily kick out. If you push it hard enough. Also, you can feel the front pull you around the turn. it is rear wheel bias. If you come through the menu on the steering wheel with your right hand, you can actually see the torque split on the screen.
13:20 the turbo wastegate "popping off" sound is one of my favorite things on the 992.1 base Carrera and Carrera S. It is especially fun when pulling it hard under load up mountain roads. When you release the throttle it really chirps
Bought my 4s in 2019 (991.2) and it has 6,000 miles. It’s a wonderful car and I’ve thought of getting a new one - maybe turbo s, but the pricing has become insane. The speculators have ruined the new car Porsche market for higher trim 911s. I may just get an engine remap/tune and add 150ish HP for $2,500. I could add some suspension upgrades, wheels, tires, and exhaust if I really want to create a GTS trim. That’s the beauty of the 991.2 and newer - you can remap for power, add larger turbos and intercoolers knowing the base engine is the same for all the trims so it can take the extra power. Thanks for making the video - appreciated.
I think you’ll only really realise the true benefits of an S over the 4S on a track. In real world every day use, the 4S can do everything as S can but the S can’t do everything the 4S can do. IMO S is for the hardcore purists and the 4S is for everyone else. Both superb products, regardless.
I think one of he main reasons for choosing the S over a 4S is a lighter steering feel. I have driven other 992s with just RWD (base Carrera) and the AWD (Turbo S). I could love to drive them both back to back on canyon roads or on the track (do a day PCELA).
From my experience, the S comes in many flavors. I drove probably a dozen different Ss (992) as loaners or during events and now have a highly specced 4S on my own. There are very tame Ss and then there are those that feel like a different car, depending on the spec. I think Sport PASM makes a huge difference in overall ride experience, and rear wheel steering and dynamic chassis control on a winding mountain road. Sport exhaust adds to the overall experience. Also the TPMS can be set to comfort pressure or standard pressure. With tires at standard pressure and SPASM, the ride gets pretty hard.
I’m on my 4th 911 4S. Current one is 991.1 manual, which was hard to find. Rainy or cold weather or snow, it goes right through it. On the 991 the far right multi display can be configured to show you the ratio of front and back power delivery. And yes, on mid corner power out, the front gets power and pulls you through and as you straighten out, power stitches back to the rear wheels and pops you out to be straight.
You’re never going to feel ANYTHING with that G.I. Joe, king-foo grip on the wheel. Please drive that same route, but this time, make a CONSCIOUS effort to grip the wheel very loosely in a high-speed turn. It’s not easy to do: your brain wants you to grip that wheel tightly. But if you can overcome that instinct, a whole new world will open up for you, my friend. You’ll feel the front for the first time. It’ll help you with future reviews, too! (Lots of track time in a 2019 NSX, a 911, and a Blackwing.)
Good, practical, comparison. Also useful review of some of spec-able options. FWIW the 4 makes it an all season, confident daily. For instance in New England. ;) cheers

Awesome thanks!
I suprised he didn't mention that on wet surface 4 wheel drive is absolutely superior and much safer for any ordinary driver.
He did mention it

Oh that’s right! I forgot about that screen. That would’ve been cool to have up during the video. Thanks for the reminder. 👍🏼
People order a standard steering wheel because it doesn't obscure the instruments so much.
Great video. Enjoyed this one a lot
Thank you. 🙏🏼
I ordered the 4S PLUS including the rear-wheel steering !!!!
Nice! What’s the ETA?
@@mikerusznak Oh I already received the car! It's a C4S with 450 hp, accelerates and handles like a dream!

So cool. Reminds me of 1980s IMSA race cars. 👍🏼

Totally agree. That’s the beauty of Porsche, make it yours. 👍🏼

Exactly. I drive a Panamera 4S.

The biggest disadvantage of the 4S is the small tank.

I bet. Sounds like fun. Especially with the manual. 👍🏼

Didn’t realize I was holding wheel tight. I will try your suggestion though, thanks. 👍🏼🏎️

Totally agree. 👍🏼
Great video!
Thanks brother 👊🏼
Nice MR! 🔥
👊🏼
super useful!
👊🏼
I wonder how the S would perform in the wet. In this case I would get the 4S as it would inspire a lot of confidence.
I’m sure the 4S would be much faster in the rain. 👍🏼
The S is surprisingly grippy in wet conditions.
= You do drift or dont?
Video would be so much better if you could hear and understand the audio.
Thanks for the input. Working on it 👍🏼
... but it MUST be MANUAL - nothing else count. That's why my 911 is MANUAL.
Totally agree 👍🏼
Please warm those poor cars up
👍🏼 warmed
Commercial crap. He doesn’t even drive these cars as intended. Boring 🥱
These cars are for sale so I don’t drive them too hard. I drive them as if it were my daily and post feedback from that perspective.
