I had two senior moments in this video. Please be kind to aging gamers. 😅👍 Also can the Anbernic RG Arc team stop advertising their console here, we get it you have a console as well.
This is a great option, however I would have preferred a 4" 4:3 screen instead I would have been all over this Handheld otherwise. 😥
@@Pridetoons yes i'm Truly tired of all this 16:9 nine crap by now!
I was gonna say… Final Fantasy on a Mega Drive emulator huh? 😂
Would be great to see you doing Anbernic RG Arc review too
I feel ya there with Senior gamer moment. Guru here myself, also glad to sub to yer channel bub.
Who else wishes Sega would enter the console market again?
This would be 🔥
I second this! I loved my Sega Genesis. I did get a playstation and not a Saturn and to this day I can't remember why. I think price was the issue but I was definitely in Line to get the first line of Dreamcast which I still have and still play. Bring on the Dreamcast II or the Sega NeoGenesis, or the Saturn One.
Yes please! Loved the Genesis! Didn’t get into the Saturn but I bought many many games and spent many hours in the Dreamcast. Seeeeeegggggaaaaaaaaaa!!!
I would love that.
Why?: the satan and dreamcast was absolutely aids.
„Hyperskin“ 😂
I was about to mention that before I saw your comment, lol . I wish that was their name.
That's what I thought I heard Mike say, I was right. From this day on? It's gonna be known as ... "HYPERSKIN" 🤘😂
Do you have hyperskin!?
@@blinxerizer5426
I have a HYPERSKIN Supa Beach Boy, it's great it plays SNES games as good as a SNES model 2 almost
Phinal Phantasy
So everyone needs to be aware of is if you get the dock , buy some extension cables and keep them plugged into it so you don’t over time damage the pins ❤
Good call. I wonder if there will be USB ports so that I can use the mini controllers.
Or just use 8BitDo wireless M30 controller for it, it came with a dongle that you could just hook up to the Genesis style port and leave it there.
This is outstanding news! I miss my Sega Nomad. Way to go Hyperkin! TBH I really thought Analogue would be bringing something like this to the market. I have really been enjoying my Analogue Pocket especially with that amazing screen. I was hoping for Analogue to use that screen tech to give us an Analogue "Nomad" with a six button controller and the ability to play Sega Genesis, Sega 32X and Sega Master System games on the go or docked. One can only dream but it looks like Hyperkin is giving us something right now. Again what an amazing time to be a retro game fan!
Maybe Analogue will follow with a Genesis handheld. They would definitely do a great job.
You are 100% right, man! :)
@@RetroGamerBoy Agreed.
I really like the form factor. Sega controllers are my favorites because of their shape, and this looks really comfortable to hold.
I would imagine this is just a concept at the moment. It will be interesting to get the final device in our hands.
This looks like what we have been waiting for.
Can’t wait for you to let us know how to get one
As soon as I find out I will let you know.
That looks so awesome. I am a huge fan of the Sega Genesis, this just hits all the right notes. Cheers and happy new year!
It looks like it has potential
Thanks for the delightful news Mike! I still have the old school Hyperskin FC Mobile II, which has a wireless light zapper, and 2 wireless controllers, to play NES on the go
Awesome, do you like it as a piece of hardware.
Definitely my cup of tea! 😍
The dock is a great idea, much better than shoehorning in the control ports onto the handheld unit. I'm not convinced about the 16:9 screen though, I have visions of stretched pixels and deformed sprites, but I'd love to be proven wrong.
It says that it can switch between 16:9 and 4:3.
@@RetroGamerBoystill, you can get cheap devices with nice 4:3 screens, so expecting a 4:3 screens shouldn’t be unreasonable. Who wants to play mega drive games 16:9 stretched out?
if theres some funky border options thatd be sweet, for tv and handheld screen
Been waiting for a good nomad replacement for awhile. The earlier ones had poor compatibility or really small screens. Fingers crossed for a better unit this time 🤞
Let's hope so.
As always, love your passion for the Genesis man!
Its and awesome console.
Just wow, can’t wait to see how robust this will be, especially the screen as will it need protectors. Would be great to see if the j carts work and most importantly what the rrp will be. Keep us posted Mike, cheers Jonathan
Will do sir.
I love my modded Nomad, but for some reason I'm still itching for one of these lol
It's Sega love.
Want! This is what I have always wanted! Iv loads of games still but no time for them. This is perfect
Hopefully we get more details on it.
I already have so many ways of playing Genesis carts - this would be an instant purchase if it played 32x titles too though...
Now that would be amazing.
Looking good . I may have to pick one up. Thanks for the heads up Mike 👍
I'm looking forward to playing around with it.
I'm gonna photoshop myself holding The MEGA 95 too, thats so Scandalous & clever 🤘🤣
That's why I rock 😂
@RetroGamerBoy Yes Sir, indeed you do ROCK 🤘😅
Let see if this actually gets released. Hyperkin has a reputation for announcing things that rarely ever see the light of day.
Really? I did not know that.
Mike this looks like it could be amazing, think I’ll start saving now to be able to get a pre-order, tired of everything going out of stock then being sold for double on eBay
Like the Analogue Pocket?
Yes man, I feel your pain on the pricing as well...
Yup Analogue do that. I hate it. It pushes the prices up through the roof.
I personally dont mind if its not QUITE spot on to OG hardware vut its just going to be so convenient. To have it just sat in a dock out of the way under the TV where i can take it out if I need to is going to be so useful!
The convenience is something that interests me.
looks great for Fighters in general! with that 6 bitton yalout
Yup, it does not look like it has triggers though. That would have been nice.
I'm looking forward to it! I'm going to get one.
Same here, I'm looking forward to getting more details.
My god, this thing looks awesome.
I hope we get our hands on it.
Can you talk about the modern battery on your nomad? I am looking to do that to mine also.
I can't remember what's in it. It lasts an awesome 8+ hours though.
Having missed out on the Mega SG (I know), this certainly catches my interest. Looking forward for more
Same here.
@@RetroGamerBoyit was actually a sort of real decision at the price tag is was at, I expected 32x support out of the box. I do regret the decision though
This is awesome. A dockable Nomad. I think Sega was ahead of it’s time making the Nomad to be consolized. Not sure if it was the first, it still cool innovation. 30 years later it’s got a dock and HDMI. As much as I too love the Genesis, not sure if I’ll be picking this up. So many emulation options out there, i actually have the handheld AtGames Genesis as well as their HD console. I love them both, primarily for the means of playing Roms, either on my TV, or on the go.
I honestly thought at first glance you had a Anbernic rgARC in your thumbnail.
It won't be for everyone. But if you are a physical collector it's potentially a nice option.
@@RetroGamerBoy what about you Mike?, is this the device you’d tote with you when game shopping?
Final Fantasy on the Mega Drive ? Are you on drugs ?
need a hack for my megadrive ^^
Man I wish final fantasy was released on SEGA Genesis for real!
I meant Phantasy Start, I've just finished FF& Remake and my old brain cannot cope anymore😅
@@RetroGamerBoy both are class games. Sadly going to struggle to get one in UK
It could be a prototype and or mock up of what it might look like if they go into production with this.
Very true.
emulation shouldn't be an issue in this day and age. Genesis emulators are fantastic now. If this doesn't play Genesis games the way they are supposed to play, I'm getting a Steam Deck instead.
Yup the emulation has to be spot on. Hardware would be best.
You don't need a steam deck just for genesis games, just get a Anbernic rgarc, you can get one for less than $100 and you can emulate up to ps1 and n64 if you want.
@@hpickettz34 thanks! I will check it out!
hi, I loved my megadrive. had it moded to allow for ISA and Japan games.
do you know where that can be done nowadays?
I don't Im afraid.
Definitely grabbing this one !.
snap
I want a Saturn and Dreamcast version with a Sega logo.
That would be very cool.
I think this with an Everdrive will be the ultimate Genesis/Mega Drive experience! There's still so much love for this console, it's difficult for me to understand why Sega aren't capitalizing on it. Imagine if Sega themselves created a dockable switchlike console with FPGA or better yet, a revised moto 68000 and ym2612. That and user friendly modern dev software for developers to easily create new games would be a dream! Call me crazy, but I'd pay as much as $250 for that if it existed!
I think there is a good market for some new Sega Hardware.
I play a lot whit the 16bit MD pocket from colombus circle and i love it, but, think in a superBoy quality product for Megadrive is a dream, i need it
Let's hope it comes out soon.
@@RetroGamerBoy the last month i buy the new colombus circle "16bit md pocket IPS" whit control ports, region selector, hdmi out, ips screen.... In amazon JP for 69€+ships + dutys, but is so good machine
Honestly I want one, but I kinda want a miyoo mini plus, and psp 3000 more. It really depends on the price. If it's £50 and I can play Thunder Force 4 from the OG cart in the waiting room, great. Unless it comes with the dock, that would add some value. They really have to hit the price sweet spot to tempt me.
I suspect they will push this out at the £100 price point.
I cannot wait!!!!
Still no word on it though.
Awesome, great coverage
It's a very interesting device.
Hyperkin always shows stuff like this and it never gets released, I will believe it when I can buy it. Thanks for the video though
Ya it will be interesting to see if it comes out. It's gt a huge amount of coverage though. I wish Analogue would make a Portable Genesis ? MD.
COOL MAN! IM DEFINITELY GETTING ONE
Nice!!
First there was the clone wars, now we have the switch wars lol
😂
Oh wow! Would love to see a comparison with the ANBERNIC RG ARC also with 6 face buttons
Isn't the ANBERNIC RG ARC digital only. I did not think it supported physical media.
@@RetroGamerBoyIt doesn’t. It’s basically just an emulation device with a Sega Genesis controller layout. Don’t get me wrong I love emulation handhelds but yeah a comparison wouldn’t really be worth it.. be like apple to oranges.
As far as emulating, don't they have cartridges that take SD cards?
For this device? I'm not sure.
I bought a Hyperkin Supaboy back when they came out. I had a problem with it erasing my save data off my carts.
I believe you had bad batteries in those cartridges. They got to be replaced every 20 years. You'd have to do open cart surgery and have the right battery for it
@@demonology2629 I still have the carts and they work just fine on a regular snes.
Really? That's not goo at all.
@@RetroGamerBoy Another thing I experienced with my SupaBoy there was a considerable amount of input lag
Does this play rom files or just cartridges?
No SD slot?
I don't know yet. As soon as I get more details I'll let you know.
I'll be getting this! I wonder when this will release.
Same here. Some people have said that Hylerkin are not great at bringing consoles to market.🤞
A modern Nomad, heh? NEED one!!
I like the fact it works like a Switch, being able to play portable on the go or plug it Switch-style. But we need more info what's inside it and the interface and such.
I also got myself a modded Nomad (and Game Gear). Such a great thing to have lying around for a lazy sunday or quick walk in a nearby park. Yes. I'm the only one playing a Nomad I'm sure, while everyone's glued to their phones around! XD
2:34 Final Fantasy..? Surely you meant Phantasy Star, right Mike???
Yup that's what I meant, I had a senior moment. 😂
@@RetroGamerBoy I know there's a fanmade port of FF1 being worked on the Sega Master System, but you had me do a double take there just to be sure I didn't miss anything..! XD
I had for snes and the resolution of the screen was very low. This has to be better!!
How low was the resolution?
My main question is will it run Virtua Racing? To be honest there's not alot of clones that can run it because of the Sega virtua processer
If it did would you play Virtua Racing on it?
@RetroGamerBoy maybe not handheld but on the telly probably
Very cool
Let's hope so.
Why can't extra graphics be added to fill the wide screen?
Ahhhhh, really?
Im about to be at work gaming
😂👍
Hopefully it can support 32x and maybe someday they can make a portable ps1 which would be amazing considering they could possibly use a similar design to a psp if they made such just with two joysticks like the vita. But using a larger size of a system due to discs being big. I mean it’s a stretch but if they can get something like a cartridge to stay in perfectly into a system like the supaboy without it shaking around and shuffling imagine if they could do the same with discs. Maybe they could even launch a oled model of both the supa boy and mega 95 I have a supaboy and I love it but always wondering what it would look like playing mortal kombat 1, super Mario all stars and other games like stunt racer on a oled.
A potable PS1 that supports disc would be a very interesting device. I have my PSPgo loaded with loads of PS1 games and is my go to for portable PS1.
yay a new Nomad!
🤘😝🤘
What would really set it apart and make it absolutely amazing is if it came with a HDMI port where you can plug it into your TV to play the games.
I think they said it does.
Sega was my childhood
snap
It’s basically a modem sega nomad? Can it play 32x games?
I don't think so.
Last night I spent a few hours theorising, and costing for a mould to create a nomad clone of some kind. Thank god I wont need to go through such torture.
😂
720p through the tink4k running a custom profile would be very nice. I wonder what the emulator they will be using for this is though. Nomads have become unobtainium in good or working or even modded condition these days some fetching hundreds if not thousand dollars cib. This is a nice refresh.
While there are plenty of alternatives in terms of running sega roms on the go being able to run physical games on the go is always the final frontier. Now if we can only get a portable msx or x68000 XD
The novelty of play OG carts is the thing I'm excited about.
I hope the pictures are just a prototype and they put both controller ports closer together like on a real mega drive. So we can connect our original infra red mega drive controllers!!!
Ohhh I had not thought of that. If you have the WKK wireless 3 button it should work. And I've not tried using the EA and Sega multi tap with the 6 button wireless, but that may be a work around if it does not fit. There is also the Big 6 and the legacy 6 button wireless controllers from Retro-Bit.
@@RetroGamerBoy Yeah, I could always use 2 controller extention cords to hook up the infra red receiver i guess . I only have the "remote arcade system". I like to use only original hardware and I know, It seems like a paradox to buy this Hyperkin than. But it just seems to cool not to have and use 🙂
Looks wonderful
Bill I wants it.
Alright! I assume it will play my multi-cart.
I hope it does.
Shame it's a 16:9 screen, though would have been cheaper.... Will probably stick with my Analogue Pocket, and use the cart on my Sg and original series 1. Still new hardware is always good.
Continued support can only be a good thing for fans.
When’s it release?
They have not released any details on price or date yet.😭
That's rad
It looks cool.
As someone who spent almost 300 on a MegaSD, and didn't wanna spend $500+ buying/refurbing and screen/battery modding a Sega Nomad, I'm hyped as hell!!
I wonder if Analogue will make a portable MD / Genesis.
Well this looks interesting and comes to a surprise to me Mike. I like it. Not bad for my taste at all bro. Thank you for sharing this with us. 8^)
Anthony..
Anthony do you thing they will every try to make another portable Neo Geo again? The X I believe failed because of the poor emulation, but with FPGA now we could get an amazing modern handheld Neo Geo.
This would be awesome if they come out 10 years ago.
It could still be great today for the right price.
If it's fully compatible with carts it's a no brainer but not getting my hopes up 😅
I guess we wont know until we see reviews.
I need it 4 player. Its pretty cool though :)
I wander if Jcarts will work or if the 4 player adapter works.
There are some things that have to be adressed here.
First of Hyperkin has a history of anouncing stuff waaaaay ahead of time.
They announced a device that let you play your gameboy games on your smartphone which took almost 4 years to come out.
They announced an N64 clone and PC Engine clone that still have no release date.
I'm glad you brought up the Supaboy because this is what we need to compare it to for now.
The Supaboy has a terrible screen that made playing it in Handheldmode difficult. I hope this gets an IPS screen to make sure we can actually enjoy the blast processing of our Mega Drive games.
If this device is as good as the Mega Retron HD than we are going to have a blast! The Mega Retron HD is praised as pretty much the second best Mega Drive clone and for good reason.
I currently have an M16 Pocket which gets the job done for basic things but I can't use it to play blue spine games due to the advanced region lockout and there is no switch to change regions(it's set to NTSC-J).
I think even if it's not great there will be an audience for it. The convenience is going to appeal to a lot of people.
I still have my Nomad, but that’s really cool. I need one!
If this gets released then it's going to be a nice and convenient handheld for me. Even if it's software emulation, it will be good enough for the commute to work. It all comes down to price.
Long as it has better battery life than the Nomad it's already a winner.
I'm sure that would easy.
@@RetroGamerBoy I mean ya know... that's the joke...
Price and quality will be paramount for me.
Absolutely.
Just wanted to brag that i have a Nomad. Then i saw yours behind you 😂
😂👍
I want a Saturn and Dreamcast version.
👍
I really like the Super Boy S a SNES Nomad, I also wanted a SEGA Nomad, I'm a SEGA kid, I love SEGA. Now I'm excited about this one a SEGA genesis Nomad that is modern and I need one.
I'm really keen to see what they make.
I wish this was more like Anbernic's RG-ARC. Looks a little too wide for 4:3 gaming.
I think they have gone for an off the shelf screen to reduce the manufacturing costs.
Wow! just wow
It's looks very interesting.
Will it have a SD Card port?
I have no idea yet.
@@RetroGamerBoy it would be amazing if it had it, the possibilities are endless if that is the case, great video btw
This is a key requirement for me.
While this sounds pretty awesome.. Hyperkin is known for announcing things and then dropping them. And their QC has been always hit or miss.. I worked at Stone Age Gamer when the Retron 5 came out and we had nothing but calls and complaints from customers who bought one from us.. same goes with some of their other various products. But hopefully they got their stuff together.
That's interesting. I've never owned any Hyperkin hardware. So it's a buyer beware situation.
Will it be able to play 32x?
I don't think so.
Oh joy, even more stuff to sldnd my money on. Gotta love this hobby 😂
It will never end
This will be awesome with the Sega everdrive cartridge.
Yup, let's hope it supports it.
I thought the SuperBoy was a great idea and initially i loved it....until i tried moving whilst the unit was on with a cart in and found any light movement would make the game crash...it would be no good if you like to move the unit with each jump of the character on screen, or if you turn when having a blast on micro machines.
Well i hope for better build quality but, would rather play it on console via a tv
Oh and do you even collect?....Final Fantasy on the Megadrive 🤔
😂
I've not bought a Hyperskin product before, so I don't know their track record on hardware. It will be interesting to see what they make.
God dammit! I've just finished FF7 Remake, I meant Phantasy Star.
The 16:9 screen just kills it in my mind - if they had a 4.5" screen that was 4:3, I'd buy it in a second - instead you're getting a 3.5" screen with big huge black bars on the side. I also have the Sega Nomad, and it's modded as well, but I'd love to get a proper new version of it, but the screen size would ideally be over 5" at 4:3.
Nobody manufactures a 4:3 screen nowadays, genius.
There are chinese handheld 4:3 @@LakeHowellDigitalVideo
I suspect the 16:9 screen is an off the shelf screen making manufacturing cheaper.
@@LakeHowellDigitalVideoTell that to Blaze, who didn't seem to have any trouble finding 4:3 screens for their recently released Super Pocket.
@@RetroGamerBoy oh yeah, of course, but it just ruins it for me personally - my eyes can't focus on screens that small anymore, which happens to everyone as they get into their 40s, and that would be the market for the Genesis in particular - at least in my opinion. But nothing against the people that enjoy, it looks cool, I just use it was more usable.
3:2 aspect ratio screen?
😱😱😱😱
@@RetroGamerBoy now I know it has 16:9 screen ratio, it is very strange
Your enthusiasm is wonderful. A big fan of your channel. However, having owned a supaboy I would urge you to temper your expectations
I don't own any Hyperkin hardware, is it not that good then?
I was ecstatic on this discovery! And shaped as a controller to boot! Too bad the cartridge are too big to carry in the pocket and backpack. Perhaps smaller cartridge will be better? Also acting as an emulator to play Rom Hack?
I guess you can always keep the cart in another pocket.
Not into handhelds though if i wanted i have a dual controller my ohone can slip into and it has dpad, thumb sticks and use emulators and works perfect
nice
what does FPGA mean?
Field Programmable Gate Arrays, its hardware that can be configured to suit specific needs. In this case emulating the hardware of a console. It's considered the gold standard for emulation.
Im not a handheld player, but Im definitely interested in the docked mode. If it works, and works well I might have to get one.
I'm hoping that this is a great device. But we wont know until we get reviews on it.
We'll see, man. Hyperkin has a habit of dropping the ball somewhere. Honestly. I have a SUPABOY, and aside from the cheap screen, the Emulation is flawless. It even supports FX Chip games.
I don't own any Hyperkin hardware. They seem to be getting mixed feedback in the comments.
Shut up and take my money!!! Been waiitng looong for this one!
😂💵
I agree, this will be over 100. I wish Sega would make a console that played cartridges.
Hopefully Paprium works on it.
@@RetroGamerBoy I hope too, because it works on Mega HD but with glitches from the Watermelon developers, or the sound is quiet or in general at the beginning of each level everything slows down
I have Hyperkin's GameBoy console (I forget the name). It's excellent, though I should point out it couldn't handle fake carts or flash carts sadly. So you'll only be able to play Genuine carts.
It's unfortunate because frankly I like the fake cart's just fine, and they're cheap on Ebay.
Maybe they will support them with this release. It's been a few years since the that console came out.
Is this the nomad 2.0?
Nope
what ever happened to the retrobit nomad clone?
Oh ya, what did happen to that.
I am definitely getting this on though... I got a LOT of Genesis games. I just wish it could do 32x as well.@@RetroGamerBoy
Wow, that comes unexpected. I liked their Mega Retron HD. If they improved on the sound emulation for this, I'm in! 🎉
Was the Mega HD hardware or software emulation.
@@RetroGamerBoy From what I read, that appears to be based around a MD on a chip design, so whatever one wants to call this approach. Closer to the clone MDs in that regard, I guess. But the sound is not accurate - not bad, but clearly not as good sounding. I remember noticing it best with Midnight Resistance. If they're going to reuse that design in a smaller form factor now, that would still be very nice, but I really hope they do something about the sound issue then.
@@datassetteuser356 I'd heard that the sound was supposed to be based on the sound chip used in the Sega Genesis 3. Not as nice as the first generation but decent
If it doesn't play 32x games, and we know it won't be playing CD games, then might as well get a full-fledged handheld emulator(RG-ARC from ANBERNIC comes to mind) and leave your valuable cartridges on your shelves at home.
It depends what you want from it. If you just want a convenient way to play your OG Genesis / MD collection, then its fine. Having more options to play is not a bad thing in my book.
@@RetroGamerBoy thats exactly right. there not much soulution if you want a cartridge slot. but there are very good emulater handelds on the market from ambernic powkiddy myomini etc the emu up to dreamcast and have 4inch 4/3screens ips panels for 40-70bugs. i have 50megdrivecarts a megdrive2 and a everdrive for home but for underway i got a ambernic arc is set up out of the box can play till dreamcast has a nice dispay for 70bugs and the controls feel like a sega pad. has hdmi and usbc bt wifi you can hook up most cotrollers. so emu is way cheaper and can upscale has better buttons and dpad as stuff previous from hyperskin.
