    Reverse the extra rollers, ie put them below the elevator and stop the elevator high. Just add some stairs/steps to the floor of the root cellar. These can even be made from wood so you can move them around.

  • @timothychristian9140
    @timothychristian9140 6 месяцев назад +4

    You might be able to put track and rollers, on the outside edges, at the front of the elevator to eliminate the potential for excessive uneven weight distribution. That way, you could still exit the front of the elevator and the track could be incorporated into your shelving to help give it rigidity and keep it from flexing. Stay safe, GOD BLESS and see ya on the next one.

  • @Critical-Thinker895
    @Critical-Thinker895 6 месяцев назад +4

    I see everyone suggesting a front rail to relieve the front stress but that's not what's causing the problem. It's your cable attachment. There are reasons why elevator cables attach to the center of gravity of the car. You're attached to the rear which will always allow the weight to be unevenly distributed to the front. I don't know how you would improve this situation considering your build. I'm not saying it won't work as is, as long as you expect wear and occasional sticking problems possibly? It's storage area, not a high traffic volume elevator. Probably be years before any problems crop up so don't overthink it.

    For safety you can have a person go down first on the elevator, send it back up, then send down heavy items on the elevator to be offloaded by the person below so that you don't have a person on the elevator at the same time.

Also would paint a red square on the floor of where not to stand if you were down and somebody was coming down lololoolol

  • @roberthouston594
    @roberthouston594 6 месяцев назад +3

    The main safety issue I see with this is if the cable snaps, the winch breaks or the pulley at the bottom breaks. If this happens it will hit the floor like a stone. The solution would be to fit a third rail (with notches) behind the cable and a spring loaded hook so if the cable goes slack it catches the platform.

    My wife is suggesting an intercom of some sort in the root cellar as a backup communication method, JUST IN CASE someone is down there and can't climb out for whatever reason. Also, I'm sure you've thought of this, but some moly grease used for vehicle wheel bearings generously slathered all over the trolleys and the unistrut will help a great deal. Messy, but usefully functional.

    @Codger2015 6 месяцев назад +1

    You have the back edge of the platform running up and down via the channels attached to the concrete wall. It would seem to me that if you rigged two more channels (attached to the floor and the concrete ceiling lid) at the front edge of the platform that this would enhance the stability and strength of the system. In other words having four channels instead of only two.

  • @paulvanhouts3365

    This comment is just as you commented about a reverse clamp. Try using a bolt with two metal tale that slide over the bolt. Fix one on the head, welded. The other is mounted after a narrow nut is installed, but not welded, the idea that each metal tab fit into the gap of the unistrut. Turn the nut anti clockwise to widen. Not sure how that will work for you.
    A little further in, you may have been best just putting thick ply as the platform, no welding just hinges and a lock and not warped. A lot lighter too.
    Glad you found a way to sort out the warpage. It works well, impressed.

    I wondered about the rollers but after seeing it operate I wouldn't woryabout it. The amount of time it will be running will be small and 2 to 3 ft of leverage with 200lbs is still within the load range. Keep up the good work and move on to the house build , you can always modify the elevator later when your looking for something to do.

    28:43 It looks like you could spread the rollers up and down a few inches, if you moved them to the extreme edge of the frame, or just move the bottom rollers down 6 inches or so, below the frame, and have a bigger step up at the cellar floor. I think this would lessen the load a lot and should be enough, since you haven't got really heavy loads.
