These irons have been reviewed by a million other RUclipsrs but I still waited patiently for Rick’s review to decide between them or T200. THIS IS THE POWER AND TRUST of the Rick Shiels.
Really wish he would do some takomo and sub 70 reviews. I'm in the market but don't have the funds for anything over $800.
Right now Cleveland iron sets are 799 Canadian. They are pretty much like srixons. Uhx or launcher irons. Not the hybrid looking ones.
@@1104blakeI have a set of takomo 201’s and can say they are pretty fantastic in my opinion. I had some Mizuno mp63s I replaced and they feel very similar and perform great
Mizuno ;)
Try Wilson's D9 forged they feel great fully forged head not just the face like other makes and look gorgeous
I had just bought the "old" P-790 before the new ones came out and I had been kicking myself for getting them just before the new model came out.
This lightened my worry. Thanks Rick
I love my 21 set of P790’s. They are by far my favorite set of irons ever , they are accurate and feel amazing they will be in my bag for a hot minute.
Well done Rick -- another honest review. I have to say that the more I watch H.I.T. the more impressed I am with your commitment to not "sell out" -- I'm sure plenty of these manufacturers would pay you well for positive reviews. Your honesty in the lab and on the course is refreshing. Thank you for sticking to who you are.
I’m sure Taylormade would love to pay Rick to redo this Lmao
@@riggz5496 Or they could relaunch the 2021 irons in 2025 as a "new" set 😂
@@TheExvitermini glad you reminded me of this because it’s all about Takomo now lol and that’s fitting
Went into club champion several weeks ago for an iron fitting. After a chat about my golf goals and hitting my own irons to warm up we started narrowing down the field. Tried the brand new 2023 P790’s. Really nice looking. Didn’t like the sound / feel. Jake had me try the 2023 T200’s. Huge difference for me. My son was with me and both the fitter and he saw an immediate improvement in contact, flight, and results. I noticed the sound and feel. Another tweak with shafts, both length and type, narrowed my dispersion even more. Nailed it. I Love hitting these irons thru the whole set. Was worth the extra cost of the fitting / irons.
My son plays the 2021 770’s. Loves them. His brother in law plays the previous model P790’s. Loves them. They were both fit. Do yourself a favor and get fitted. Find the right match for you.
I am really happy for Rick with this new channel. His devotion towards this is through the roof. I know HIT will be HUGE someday
Sorry I'm replying to your comment. It wouldn't let me put my own down. I have last years p770. Hit knock down shots. Less swing speed will go 10m further
Someday? …
Would love to see a head to head vs previous years of this club since there was a bit of difference apparently!
This is exactly what is needed
That is what I mentioned in another video.would love a golf channel to have the comparisons of what I see on computer component channels. I can base my next CPU versus cpus from 10 years ago because they show it each time they test new stuff.
I feel like improvement in golf clubs, particularly in irons, is too thin between years, to the point the variation in a golfer's performance is likely to gobble it 95% of the time. Comparing a club with its previous version may result in bad press, and therefore less sales. Also, numerous reviewers might run out of business if golfers realized that ... Just a thought.
I still think they should do such a comparison. Big brands should expect their claims to be thoroughly challenged when they present a new club, so we know they believe in it if they put it on the market.
Would you jump from 21 to 23 models? Probably not. Would one jump from 19 to 23? Well I wouldn’t as I play the 7MCs, but having hit the 790s they are really good but really weird at the same time with random “flyers” off fairways, etc.
Why anyone needs to know the differences, albeit minor, over 4 years from the internet is beyond me - get fitted
EP Golf Studios (another Brit channel) did comparison between the 2021 and new 2023 P 790s twelve days ago. Check it out but BLUF there is very minimal difference
It’s the best day when a new H.I.T video comes out
I appreciate that Rick encourages everyone to test the irons for themselves as they may suit players and swings differently.
Rick I have got to say, I really do enjoy and respect your opinion on clubs. You are the very first person I watch when I am going to buy golf clubs. I am actually in the market for some new clubs to replace my old 12 year old ones. Took a break from golf due to military duties, but now focused on improving my game. Thanks for the honestly. Its hard to find that when it comes to money and influence, but you have the backbone for honesty and you stand behind your opinion and it is much appreciated. Thank you.
I've always admired Rick for what he does for all of us golfers on RUclips, but maybe most of all, his unwavering honesty. Most people get a brand new club in their hands, and the excitement tends to overshadow our true opinions of what we're hitting. I mean, it's the brand new model, so it HAS to be better, right? Maybe not always. I trust Shiels because he doesn't have any equipment deals, and they still send him all the new stuff to try and to review. Who doesn't like free advertising, right?! Not every new club is going to be a "hole in one" type product, though. Just the nature of things. I would still check them out myself because you never know, but I certainly always take note of what the guy that gets free clubs off contract says about them as well! Great stuff, Rick & Co., and I'm STILL crazy jealous of that new H.I.T. studio!!!
Like the review. Very detailed. I hit both the T200 and P790, found both to be great clubs but the P790 was more consistent, felt more workable and easier to hit. I guess it all depends on the person, I’m a 4.7 index player and do not mind a forgiving iron. Still trying to decide but the P790 just look so good. Ty!
This is the exact reason I love Rick.. no bullshit like other reviewers (looking at you James Robinson and that golf box Alex guy , that every club is the best that they have hit)
Dispersion matters a lot! That’s where we get killed on the short game.
Rick please do a review of all the highly rated forgiving irons and do a head-to-head! 😄
I had first edition of the p790 2021's and got these 2023's a few weeks ago and find these are way better. They have a better ball flight and are so soft on impact. A pleasure to hit! I have never hit especially long irons as well as I am now....
Great insight Rick, but I do think that when you're surprised by a club underperforming like this, or your swing isn't at its peak, maybe come back the next day for another dozen balls, or better still, go grab Guy and maybe one of the mid handicap staffers, show us whether the clubs might work for them. It would add insight as I think that these are particularly important clubs to go to town on in the review. Anyway, great stuff, always good when I see a post on this new channel.
Love how honest Rick is 😂, fascinating to see the performance diffences between the clubs though regarding forgiveness
4 years ago I went for my first iron fitting. I tried T200s and P790s (amongst others). Couldn't hit the P790s at all, walked away very happily with T200s. Fast forward to yesterday and I have another fitting following years of swing changes and feeling like I'm fighting my shaft combination a bit. The new T200s offered no change at all, albeit still good. The P790s added me 10 yards an iron for the same landing spin and angle. I think reviews like this are a great insight to the club characteristics, but ultimately the performance comes down to the player, the shaft combination, and how they deliver the club. It really is each to their own
Gotta love the honesty in this review! Appreciate that not every new club is praised just for the sake of it or to be considered as a reviewer for future new clubs as on the majority of golf channels.
Still have my 1st gen P790 from 2017/2018 in the bag. Love them and they perform great, not sure the newer ones offer or deliver much more.
You somehow have the ability to make me save tons of money (by not just buying the newest most expensive club) and also make me want to spend huge amounts of money, but just always wanting to try new clubs.
Thank you Rick!
This is the problem with golf.
What I like about Rick is the honest and independent reviews. Well done!
The TXG Club Champion guys did a review on the P790s and found the same issue in the short irons and the possible gapping issues. Not so sure about the flighted CG only without the speed pocket in those shorter irons. Anyone considering these should watch that review. That would be a good review for you to do Rick. Just review all the short irons to see the drop off and possible gapping issues.
Please review the Mizuno Pro 225. If you do, I expect they’ll make it into your bag. Awesome irons!
They are so pure
I bought the 2021 P790’s, and this review makes me really happy about that purchase. I think they are the best looking iteration of the series, and now I don’t have FOMO on the 2023’s! Thanks Rick!
Would be curious to hear more about the shafts in the clubs when you test them. I had a fitting the other week and was amazed at the difference the shafts made. I didn’t get on with the new 790 regardless of shaft (I’ve also hit the current 770 quite a bit and didn’t gel) but the difference from stock to a heavier PX LZ shaft was stark. My T-150s with PX LZ’s arrive this week hopefully, but even these with the AMT shafts weren’t popping, for me the Project X made a world of difference.
Always enjoy the honesty. no brand loyalty . just good stuff and not great stuff or bad.
I think Rick gives the most honest and true reviews of clubs.
I just got my Mizuno JPX923 HM in. They are phenomenal. I replaced my over ten year old Nike SQ Machspeed iron that I games for years and years. It’s amazing how far the technology has come and the feel of these 923s are absolutely incredible. The looks are impeccable, as well. Very happy to play with these HMs for a very long time. Great job Mizuno.
Have the JPX 921 Hot Metal irons ,Love Them !!!
Great review! Looks like my 2021 p790's stay in the bag. From a looks standpoint, imo they rank:
1. 2023
2. 2017
3. 2021
4. 2019
Everything Rick Shiels does is 💰 love you Rick keep up the golf content you make us all happy 😃
The H.I.T mantra in action here! Love it. This is the stuff we're after!
I bought the 2021 790's last year and love them. After watching this, I'm glad I didn't wait for the new ones to come out. It would be interesting to see the different in comparison for all 4 versions of the 790's.
New ones are loads better then the previous model… not even close… Loads more technology in each head softer better feel and sound etc… I have been gaming the 2021 models for over a year and just bought the p770/790 combo set and absolutely love the new ones over the old ones. I think Rick was just having a rough day with these lol…. Can’t base it on one RUclips review… if you watch the other 2023 p790 reviews out there they are all nothing but positive feedback and coming from someone who’s gaming them they are amazing and by far TAYLORMADES best irons ever. Cheers mate ⛳️👍🏼🙂
@@silverlionbladesunfortunately most folks don't know Rick's usual go to when he's hitting it like shit, BLAME THE CLUBS OR BALL.
People should take this reviews with a grain of salt, and they don't,try the clubs yourself people!!
@@inb4230 💯 agree Rick usually doesn’t have bad days hitting the ball but clearly something was off in this review lol but yes everyone should try them out themselves and not just watch a video to decide what clubs they will buy next based on someone else’s opinion of them. 🍻👍🏼⛳️🙂
Rick’s initial feedback on the 9i is the exact experience I have with my p790s (2022). 60% of shots go within 10yds of your normal distance, 20% don’t carry as far as you’d think, and the other 20% are when you pure it, and they go 20yds past where you think they should. A big part of it is my inconsistency, but even as I’ve gotten better and hit the middle of the face more - the 20% that are rocketing 20yds over the green have me wanting to swap my 9-7 to 770s or CBs.
Number 1 place to check out reviews of new equipment, love the reviews Rick & team! Would really like to see some of the lesser lights get a review. Cleveland irons, Wilson irons etc.
Hit the new 790s at a fitting yesterday, along with T200 and T350 plus Paradym. The Paradym was the best by far for me. Thanks for the honest review!
I never knew I was interested in golf reviews until Rick's H.I.T reviews.
Great integrity, properly honest review. No pandering, just respect for us subscribers. Thank you Rick.
I was really looking forward for this review. So nice that you can compare different clubs and be so consistent with the videos! The look of these clubs is stunning! I love how the channel is growing and the quality.
I think we can all agree that Rick will give a 100% honest review regardless what the company wishes he would say.
Great review as always Rick, the P790 are great irons but Titleist on top.
Still playing the 2021 p790 irons & tbh wouldn't change them for the world 😉
I have a P790 2iron from 2017 and I absolutely love that thing.
I have hit these irons on the range and they are very nice indeed. The trick though that is often overlooked is fighting to get the exact right shaft for you. Most reasonably good golfers like an 8 handicap golfer always seem to fall for the marketing hype or the hype that they are at tour level spec so they buy shafts that are too heavy and too stiff for them. When you go for your custom fitting dont be intimidated by the fitter's recommendations either. Find the best feeling and best performing shaft for you whatever model of iron you choose. Its harder than you think and takes time.
I’ve had the 17 and 21 P790s. The 21 model is my favorite set of irons I’ve ever owned. I generally change my set every 3-4 years but I can see them in the bag for many years beyond that. They’re predictable to me, forgiving, and they feel great.
Agree with you totally. I’ve had MacGregor, Swilken, Ping and Mizunos through the years. Got P790s last summer and they are longest most forgiving irons I’ve ever owned, only negative that is well documented is how the hit low on the face can fly 10yards further.
Ive been looking at these 23 p790's and the more reviews i watch the more i feel like i should find some new 21's instead.
If you know what shaft you need etc then most PGA stores still have tons of them. I also prefer the looks of the 21 over the 23
The 2019 set are the best hands down.
I would love to see these compared to the Callaway Apex. Great reviews, love the new channel
Still have the original 2017 model, had them for 5 years and won't be changing anytime soon. Great Irons.
Respect for the honesty! Thank you so much.
I love the honesty of these reviews mate !!!
This makes me happy I got the 2019 versions. Absolutely love those irons. No reason to upgrade.
So the real question I think we’re all asking, is Rick are you giving the best all-around iron crown to the T200’s this year?
I'm gonna buy these irons today because, well I can't get the 2021 irons anymore, and I tested these ones and they feel amazing and much better than my previous M2 Tour set, and even better than the Callaway AI 300i irons. They're slightly longer too than the 300i's, but the feel is just amazing. It's almost like there's a little guy inside the club giving your ball an extra kick when you hit the ball. Comes off the clubface so easily. I only tested the 7 iron though... So what Rick was saying about the 9 iron worries me a little bit. But still confident that this set will meet my requirements.
My T200 arrive today !!! So pumped. these P790 look phenomenal as well. More choices for more fun golf
I’ve got 770s and absolutely love them , on
Thing I’m not a fan of in the 700 series over the years is the little dirt catcher on the to , I think it would look nicer capped off
I got my set of P790s in yesterday and went out to the range today with them. I had a set of 2019 models prior. I switched more because the set I had were not fitted for me and were too upright. Fitting properly does have its advantages.
They might be a bit shorter (I don't know based on one range session) but the right fitting seems to make them a lot more accurate. I'll be interested to see if this translates to more GIRs on course. The long irons have a higher flight than the 2019s models. That is pretty obvious right off the bat. One problem I had with the 2019 models was the occasional flier that went 20 yards farther than expected. I haven't seen this with the new irons yet but, again, I can't really decide based on one range session.
Am I the only one who thinks Rick should use the catchphrase “Let’s give them a HIT” for this channel 😂
Loving the honesty of the reviews. Thank you!
As a Taylormade fan (currentlyplaying'19 P790's), I must admit that I would seriously consider the Titleist T150 or T200 over the current Taylormade P790.
Ya same here. My whole bag is filled with Taylormade clubs but I just switched my P790 TI irons to a T150 & T200 combo set. The feel and dispersion was unreal at my fitting session!
I have the P790 irons 5 to PW and was fitted for them late last year. Absolutely love them however, there is a BUT. I came out of some lovely Mizuno irons, again fitted for them back in 2017 so a few years old. I am still trying to find the sweet spot with the P790's ... What I have worked out is, I can't force them, I can't try and give them a little extra like I could the Mizuno. Instead I have learnt they like smooth rhythmic swings, so clubbing up is the order of the day rather than forcing a 7, move up to a 6 and trust it.
During the fitting I tried the current models from Ping & Titleist... of the three it was the T200's that I least favoured. No matter what shaft I put with them, they just didn't feel right.
The Taylor Made irons felt good with most shafts, very similar to my previous Mizuno. So in the end it was a matter of getting the right shaft with the club head.
Lovely irons but a change of attitude from me was also needed to get the best out of them.
I tried a set of these and it added 10 shots to my rounds, I went back to my Mizuno MP32's, best irons ever made (IMO) and for blade like clubs very forgiving and don't get me started on when you hit a pure shot, for me nothing beats the feeling of a Mizuno.
Great honest video!! This is What I love about HIT this is the stuff that really helps us to make good choices
I love your reviews. You ever had a bad hitting day while reviewing clubs? This review felt like you weren't having your best striking day . Especially with the 5 lol
Love the impartiality you've maintained
At this point, I see a switch to Titleist. You hit those better by far. Keep up the great work.
Appreciate it
Just superb. You have such influence Rick.
Great review of these. I picked up a mint 2021 set this past week on your advice. I break them in tomorrow. Thank you for your input Rick. Love the new channel!!
A real honest review, thank you Rick
So glad I got my 2021 model p790's as I swear they're better than the new model I tested too!
Love the new channel. Keep up the good work.
Appreciate the honesty, Rick
Please continue to keep the head to head comparisons as you review more products.
This is exactly what I commented on the previous video that Rick needed to test against the latest P790.
Those are absolutely gorgeous. You're doing great Rick
Love these reviews in the "Hit Studio". Thanks Rick and the team
I am a new golfer with a full set (3i to PW) of cheap irons with very strong loft and fat heavy heads. I would really love to try something like the P790s and those Titleist T200s, just to see how I hit a proper club.
My driver and 3 Wood are reputable brands but I don't feel like I am getting much value from them, because I am not quite consistent yet. But the Irons are quite easy to hit, and I am getting confident with the Irons.
Loving these iron reviews lately, amazing work Rick. Glad to see the new indoor sim getting its paces in!
I got 2019 P790 PW-3I prefer the polished look. One area of my bag I am completely satisfied with.
Six minutes into this review and I already know that Titleist makes the best irons in golf!!!!! The new T series for anyone looking for a set of irons. You are welcome.
I play the T200 and happy with them. I use the T300 for the 3, 4 iron. I use ping driver. Looking for a Threewood now again looking at ping, but the Adam’s looked good too. I played Adam’s about 30 years ago and loved them.
I love my P790’s. Such a great club
Very much enjoying HIT Mr Shiels. Onya mate
As always Rick, a good honest review.
Loving the new channel. Keep it going. 👏👏👍
I admit that the t200 this year are incredible, a bit disapointed about the p790… but their still amazing. Rick we’re still waiting for the giveaway !!😂 Wish you love Rick your videos are the BEST🫶
Disappointed how
@@edanzore like the dispersion difference with the t200 and rick said the feel is less good than the previous one but I still think their really good clubs
They are ugly imo. Top line is to square and not a fan of the speed slot.
Just got a set of 2023 P790 for the same price as outgoing 2021 model. both felt great.
great job Rick! We appreciate your honest review.
That was really surprising actually. Like, we grew up with this subconscious belief that Titleist was across the board a very difficult brand to hit, certainly a low handicapper's iron, and Taylormade was always the more forgiving one. Seems that the tables have turned a bit! Great demo though brother! Thanks for putting that together!
I'd love you to compare the T200 to the Wilson D9 forged. I game the latter and when I watch reviews I both see and hear that they preform similar to the D9, despite the latter being a few hundred bucks less expensive to the Titleists :)
Less than half the price now only £85 per club in the UK now
Rick, have you reviewed the Wilson Staff D9 Forged irons? I know they’re not a new release, but I would love to see them vs these P790s or the T200s (or the Mizunos all the other viewers are talking about). Great video, though. I very much appreciate the club reviews on the HIT channel. I am in no way looking to change my bag, but your videos are thoroughly entertaining regardless.
I was very excited to see these vs the titleist new T series. Great week of content from Rick, keep it up
Good honest review! Thanks for that.
Mizuno 923 Forged for me, exceptional feel and forgiveness, great top line aswell.
Thanks Rick for a great review. You’ve helped my decision in which irons to buy. Thanks 👍🏻
Even though I play Mizuno, I’ve been a huge fan of the P790 but there’s no denying that the T200’s are superior in Rick’s hands and that’s good enough for me. 👍🏻🇦🇺
I knew he was going to pick the t200s before I watched the video. If you listen to him talk about Titleist t200 the 790s never had a shot
I certainly don’t have the same familiarity as you do in regards to which way Rick leans in his preferences but I do know that both of Titleist and Taylormade make some wonderful irons that I believe are very close in how they perform. There are several manufacturers that very similar to each other and it basically comes down to what you prefer after you have been properly fitted. The talking heads like Rick may very well have ulterior motives for choosing one brand over another, namely which brand is willing to shell out the big bucks for their opinion. Who knows just what is the truth anymore right?
Damn I love the honest review even though he seemed very disappointed with the results. You could tell he wanted to love them, but he had to be honest. Well done Rick!
“different day obviously im not a robot, wish i was” hahahahaha
I love them, i just got a combo set, went and got fitted for them. I got 4-6 p790 and also got the 6-pw in p770, i hope they come in mail soon, i weakend my lofts on the 790s. I will probably complete the 790 set eventually after i play with them a little.
What have you found the wear and tear to be like? I’ve only played twice with mine and the scratches on the back of the clubs are terrible
2021 P-770s, before they turned them into P-790-esque, were the superior irons of the two in my opinion
What's your thoughts on the Mizuno JPX 923 HMP
Love the video as in the HIT studio. Just out of curiosity how big and high is the studio as it looks very spacious
