Before you were born Bryson, there was an article in the Golf World or Golf Monthly magazine about practicing on the beach on the wet sand after the tide had went out. Down here in East Lothian you couldn’t get near the beach for flying golf balls, including the young Assistant Pros. This takes me back to the 80’s and this was great for the strike, anything behind and the club would choke in the wet sand, great times. Fantastic to see you on RUclips but need to see you back on the Tour and on the TV. Also, this lesson was awesome
There is no better sound than a pure struck iron, love it! I grew up practicing on an outdoor grass range and really struggle off range mats when practising so totally relate to this.
It does demonstrate why the top tour pros can almost take good ball striking out of the equation and their focus then is on aim points, wind direction/speed, landing area etc whereas for club golfers we are struggling with ball striking and this brings such inconsistency on distance that those other things become a secondary concern. If there is one thing that I have garnered from this and some other videos I have seen recently is that until I improve my ball striking 500% there is little value on working on much else. All my range practice is on mats or even on a mat with a net and rudimentary swing monitor. I need to spend a heap of time in our club’s practice bunker drawing lines in the sand. Might get some odd looks from the members wondering why I’m not hitting balls out of there😅
that drill literally is the BIG reason between pros and amateurs. ive seen a lot of amateurs that putts like wizards but they are very inconistent with hitting the ball. being a consistent ball striker is imo more important than trying to be the best driver or putter itw. bc that can help u get eagle and birdie puts for every hole on the golf course

It's hard to describe how Bryson teaches, but it's almost like working "backwards" from perfection and marrying the persons swing to that middle point. It's refreshing to see someone teach without tying the student in knots with new swing thoughts. So compelling, I need more 😂
Bryson - on the first sand drill…not taking into account all of the practice and reps you have, how much would you account having the one length irons in helping with your consistent ball striking?
I'd class myself as a complete and utter novice golfer after playing for the last 5 or 6 years, I've recently switched to some Cobra F8 One-Length irons... And with out doubt my consistency in ball striking is 100% better than my old irons... So for bryson? I'd say definitely...
Best lesson I have seen. It is nice to see you work on ONE thing and not try to fix 5 at a time. The impact difference was HUGE. Thanks for this. I will adopt this into my practice.
Bryson’s advice on foot(heel) position to address Rick’s sway is extremely helpful. I’ve been trying to fix my sway for decades (golfing for 50 years) and Bryson’s simple advice has put me on the right track. I’m getting more consistent strikes. Thank you Bryson and Rick!!!
Rick, I’ve been watching since your reviewed SLDR lol. I don’t think you’ve ever done a bad video. But this might be the best one ever. It's hard to describe how Bryson teaches, but it's almost like working "backwards" from perfection and marrying the persons swing to that middle point. It's refreshing to see someone teach without tying the student in knots with new swing thoughts. So compelling, I need more 😂
Teach the skill to improve the technique
I have a feeling that this will take Rick to the next level
Bryson - on the first sand drill…not taking into account all of the practice and reps you have, how much would you account having the one length irons in helping with your consistent ball striking?
I'd class myself as a complete and utter novice golfer after playing for the last 5 or 6 years, I've recently switched to some Cobra F8 One-Length irons... And with out doubt my consistency in ball striking is 100% better than my old irons... So for bryson? I'd say definitely...
I think he's moved on from the one-length clubs.
@@spicysausage8805 no he's still using them, just not Cobra
@@spicysausage8805 he still has one length, just playing ping i230s instead of cobra.
Thanks Bryson and Rick for the awesome lesson! It was so fun watching your head to head match too. So fun. Thanks guys!
Wow, this drill over the sands is amazing. Visual consistencies for every shot! Thank you BDC!
Turns out Bryson’s a really good guy
Love how simple Bryson makes it. Simple is key.
The quality of how the strike looks on the good ones is night and day. What a great ball striking drill. Nice job guys!
Brysons knowledge and awareness is outstanding, he is so quick to understand the joint mechanics and big muscle swing techniques... thanks Bryson!
I love that you take time to give back. You have some great drills. Definitely can tell you have put the time in
Best lesson I have seen.
Great teaching. I love the questions he asks, and how they help Rick define the changes for himself.
Love the excitement, the practical outcomes, and the confidence building. Yes!!
Must be the best instruction from pro golfer I have ever seen. Great stuff from Bryson!
Bryson, you're an absolute treasure! Love your enthusiasm and how excited you get when Rick started flushing the golf ball. Thanks for sharing!
Finding it in the dirt, absolutely love that. No trackman, no numbers, feel and visual! Thanks @Bryson great video!
Two of my fav media pros!!! I followed both Rick and Bryson since day one of my golf journey
Rick, I’ve been watching since your reviewed SLDR lol. I don’t think you’ve ever done a bad video. But this might be the best one ever. People don’t understand the importance of the strike and how to get there. And to see even a high caliber player like you go through this is amazing for a struggling golfer like us amateurs. Bryson, you are amazing as well.
Well done both of you.
Bryson - so many things to say but keeps coming back to two simple words -thank you . Your a hell of a golfer and an even better human being
Love this! Rick is a good golfer and Bryson improves his ball striking immensely in one lesson. And you can tell Bryson loves the game and loves to teach. Great video
I have a new found respect for Bryson and graditide for sharing a drill thats so simple with massive effectiveness
Thank so much Bryson. No tour professional in his prime has ever taken the time out to help golfers swing better through out the world. Please provide us a few more tips centered around back swing, weight position, etc.
Easily one of the best golf lessons I've ever watched. I have the same problem with thinning. Can't wait to practice this in the spring
Fantastic video, Bryson. Simple, but fundamental advice on how to strike the ball better.
You aren’t my favourite player but to take the time to give the lesson, and show so much enthusiasm, big respect,👍🏻
I haven't seen a ton of your videos but I have liked everything I've watched. I really like the way you explain what you should be feeling in the swing. The bunker drill and the feeling of pressure on the inner back foot makes so much more sense. I'll be tuning in for more content.
Thats was by far one of the most effective and easy lesson i have ever seen! The visual thing is a proper stand out here. It could even be heard on a phone how much better the strike was! Very impressed!
I loved this! Love watching Rick, and to see you take the time to help an already golf pro speaks words. Respect towards you!
Thank you Bryson, the tip in the sand for ball striking was brilliant and simple…. Great lesson
I have been saying for a while "Rick is playing lazy golf" these strikes look so good and I hope he uses this lesson and builds from it.
Amazing work guys
This may be the best lesson I’ve ever seen (and I’ve had a bunch of lessons). Kudos to Bryson.
You can feel the passion Bryson has for golf, would love to play with that dude and learn from him. Appreciate the videos big man!
Absolutely loved this! so much I can’t take to my own lessons with my coach, really like Rick Shiels bare all videos, such honesty from Rick as usual allowing us to see his progress.
How can one say anything but WOW!! I wish I had seen this video when I was 17 rather than when I am 71. Made me respect a pro golfer even more.
years of watching golf and this is the best drill I've ever seen and it makes so much sense. If I had known this drill 60 years ago, ugh!
What a cool video. BD genuinely is cheering for Rick to improve. Amazing how the sound changes with the more compressed strike.
Amazing. I had a lesson the other day and he told me the exact same thing. Not compressing the ball, I was just picking the ball. It’s comforting to know that a good golfer like Rick is doing the same (maybe to a lesser extent to me) shows how hard this game is. I’ll try that drill in the sand for sure👍🏻
