    Paige's openness about her 'failings' and her frankness exposing her lack of knowledge about certain elements of the set-up and swing, was admirable and refreshing. Bryson’s ‘guidance’ was simple, clear, and understandable by his ‘student’. And I love the premise that a competent golfer shouldn’t labour over a swing change that isn’t working.

      Hi Timothy, look for 'On Learning Golf' Percy Boomer, it will make you understand your own swing and thus make watching golf videos obsolete and even demonstrate that it is bad rather than good. From a certain age we change from learning by seeing to learning by understanding concepts. Example: in this video you have an isolated hint for Paige that seems to fit her need - but that does not teach the viewer the concept of a controlled golf swing, it only teaches what might be wrong among many other things in a golf swing. Anyway, 'On Learning Golf' is the only thing that I have found that makes a real difference.

      It worked for me. I haven't played in a while but massive shaft lean and the elbow thing was what allowed me to play my best. I would even strengthen my left hand grip so that my lead elbow had to be pointed at the target. I also play the ball really far back in my stance. I had to get all the BS out of my head about where people say the ball should be in my stance. Once I conquered that my golf improved dramatically.

    • @BroncoYeller
      @BroncoYeller 5 месяцев назад

      @@The_Osprey I've been making a recent change to a stronger grip myself, and yea, I noticed it automatically rotated my elbow toward target like you mentioned. But I have had a few issues where I think maybe moving the ball back might actually help. Can you discuss that more?

Agree with you I've watched hundreds of videos but this was something better.

  • @Rochesterhome
    @Rochesterhome 5 месяцев назад +8

    Bryson, the elbow to the target fixed my ball striking. Your simple explanation turned on the light bulb for me. When you told Paige to find the technic that works for her it made sense to me. The thought during my swing straightened out my reoccurring chicken wing. It moved me a little closer to the ball on set up, provided a beautiful little draw with an effortless full extension swing from the inside - out. Ball contact was a perfect sweep off the rug. The best part was I can duplicate and feel it.
    I've spent the past two days (in freezing NY) on the driving range consistently compressing the ball and hearing that beautiful ting off all my irons. When I miss hit left or thin, I know exactly what I'm doing and I can adjust immediately which I've never had in the bag before.
    I have watched many on-line lessons for years and none provided the simple elbow to the target like you. Thank you, you've made me more of a golf addict than I have felt for years.
    I enjoy watching all your videos.

      It's something that a good teacher can unlock along with feel gained over time with the right equipment. I used to have a REALLLYYY bad left to right slice with my driver, I went and got fitted for a new one and they spotted something with my grip that was allowing my hands to flop around during the down swing which I could not feel at all until then. They helped me fix that and it improved my swing and my ability to feel where the club head was going throughout the swing. After that I tried out different heads and shafts until I found the combo that gave me the extra feel I needed to help me fix the rest of it... I now hit the ranges end fence no more than 10 yards off from my aim point instead of launching the ball so far right it exits the range over the side fence at about 160 yards... Lol. It feels so much better, which has given me the confidence to keep going and fix more and get better and better.

    Here's a nerdy explanation of why the elbow-toward-target tip works. To turn the elbow that way, the upper arm bone (humerus) must rotate, and that makes the shoulder socket move up and forward (toward the ball). The collarbone (clavicle) and shoulder blade (scapula) move with it, so the whole assembly is more in front of the ribcage. Conversely, when the elbow is pointing down, all of those shoulder parts drop down and behind the ribcage. With the shoulder low and back, the ribcage turn pushes the shoulder ahead of it, turning too far and too soon. That drags your hands around and the right hand flips over and shuts the clubface. With the shoulder high and forward (elbow-toward-target), the shoulder and left arm can "hang back", moving across the body as the ribcage turns, letting you keep the club moving along the target line with the face square.
    The other thing that happens at setup with elbow-toward-target is that the left hand wants to move into a stronger grip position. You can counteract that to some extent by counter-rotating your forearm. Unlike the upper arm, the forearm has two bones that can twist around each other, giving you the ability to twist your hand independently of the elbow rotation. Changing to a stronger grip can make the elbow-toward-target position more comfortable for some people, but it is not a requirement.

    I was amazed she wasn't familiar with the alignment technique. I've heard it as a railroad track. One rail from the ball to the spot to the target. The other rail is toe to toe and obviously both rails are parrallel.

    Bryson to the rescue! Paige is obviously a good golfer, keep it real. 14:20 now that’s funny but so true for a lot us mortals! Bryson your a gentleman and funny knowing what not to say!! It’s the truth a good pro would say go away for week and hit a thousand balls doing one thing, it took tiger a year to make a small change!

    Funny when Bryson could not explain setup vocally, had to actually show Paige how he sets up. Prime example of muscle memory. Great video. Enjoy these videos when players are in a relaxed mode, just being themselves.

    Love what Bryson said around the 4:45 mark about making sure the hands are forward and clubface square before doing anything with ground force/pushing of the left foot. Everyone keeps talking about that move but they don't mention how it can promote a hard-left shot if you don't have hands forward first! Gold nugget right there!

    Great video. Bryson, you've really helped my game with speed through the ball (54 years old hitting 290-315 yard drives), to alignment and straight hitting with ahort irons using percentages, to chipping with an open face and keeping it open and on the back foot, to green reading and putting calculations. I'm in the single digits now and am shooting for a 3 handicap, beating the best in my life of 24 years ago when I was a 4. I am now at a 7. 4 to go.

    What a great video. I loved the left elbow pointing to the target. That helps me so much. Also when you said if something doesn’t work quickly just stop it and try something else until you find something that clicks. So many pros force you to do things for hours or weeks that will never work. Thank you.
