Personally, I don’t think any double handicap player should be trying to shot shape to begin with. Today I’m an 11.6 and I can easily go shoot 78 or 88 tmrw. But as a double handicap at the moment, trying to shape the ball makes zero sense. It’s more about making the better consistent contact than anything. Just my opinion. Great vid btw 💪🏼 keep ‘em coming
I see what you mean and I agree, to a degree. According to GHIN my handicap is 11.8 but realistically it's probably around a 15 right now because I've been in a slump ever since a rough lesson a few months back. That said.. I'll purposely go for a low stinger or from the trees now and then, and I'll "embrace the fade" aka playable slice on some dogleg water holes. Mostly though, you're right.. most of the time I'm just hoping to hit it straight, and with the distance and height appropriate for the shot.
As a high handicapped golfer and fairly new to the game, I got fitted for P790s and Qis (regular Qi not the HL version). l would say the P790s feels better than the Qis but not by much. I have more consistent ball flights on the Qi irons versus the P790s. I played them a few times after getting it a few weeks ago, the Qis are amazing, I tend to slice the ball a lot (previously using Wilson Profile Package Set Clubs). These clubs were night and day difference, and ever since I started to enjoy playing golf more. For my game right now, the draw biased and forgiveness of the Qis suit my needs and of course lessons will help as well. But overall, yes, the Qi irons probably one of the best game improvement irons on the market right now. I would still highly suggest getting fitted to know which suits your game the most. Can't wait to test it out on a real course not only at sims since there's still snow up north here in Canada. Lol.
Great video of the Taylormade irons. I like the comparison that ones a mid handicap and ones a lower handicap hitting the irons for comparison. Great job!!!
This is probably controversial but I found it much harder to improve with game improvement irons. Since I switched to P7MCs my swing and ball striking have been rapidly improving and I already score better with them than my previous set. I think a lot of that comes down to the feedback that you get from a strike, good or bad. I feel like if you are actively trying to improve and frequently practicing, get the player's irons. The handicap gatekeeping for different clubs is just way overused.
I’ve brought the QIs early this year and dropped from 17 to 9.5 , My pro hammered me for buying them and said I was too h good game improvement irons . When you take it up at 59 you need all the help you can get was my view. I’ve been thinking of swapping for the 790s but still hit a few thins and tops in truth so I’m scared to loose the larger sweet spot .
Its about time "pros" quit with that elitist bullshit. if you are topping balls as a 9.5 that's lact of concentration so the Qi will save you those times.
Great break down of these clubs. Love the content. Would love to see the TaylorMade 770's vs Titleist T150's as these are the 2 sets I'm getting ready to choose between. Again as always, thanks for all you do.
Fantastic, this is one of the best videos you have done yet, thank you for all you hard work.. keep them coming..no golf yet here in Sierra Nevada could we get a couple more sim course reviews from you. …love interlock on tgc
Whatever you buy get custom fit, I got fitted yesterday ( blind fitting ) q1 HL 1 degree upright shaft blue 65 Not just the yardages with new 7’s being like a standard 6 loft ( ball flight is crazy, sounds amazing ) apex from 7 iron climbed higher ( slightly) than my current 9 iron ! 20 yard gain on a 90 mph swing speed ( less side spin and explosive
I am in the same boat. I thought I would end up in the 790's, but struggled, I am about a 10 hcp. I found that my ball height was same as my old clubs even with a lower launch angle, but my ball speed was drastically faster, gained 20 yards and didn't lose any spin (6900 on 7i). Changed the shaft to True Temper DG mid 115, tip has a little extra play in it. Almost felt like they swung themselves.
Would love to hear you guys touch upon graphite vs steel. And who would benefit from them in these new sets for 2024…. Ty for another nice video guys ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Do PXG 317T's vs TM P770's... Ps Played St Andrews and Kingsbarns last year absolutely spectacular, specially 1 and the finishing holes at St Andrews! Take antihistamines if your have hayfever at Kingsbarns you'll need it!!!
That is a great idea! We'll do that this season for a comparison. Great heads up too, we appreciate that. Ill make sure to have my Claritin ready to go! 👌 Thanks for messaging and watching Pendragon 🙏
Great review as always looking forward to my fitting in the UK currently playing a bag of Stealth 2 and checking out the QI and P790. I’m a senior 15 handicapper with a swing speed 74 and ball speed 90 so hoping I can move to P790 along with T350 also very nice and forgiving.
I wish every golf club company had just 3 sets of irons, aimed at low, mid and high handicappers. 3 shafts high, mid and low flight. plus juniors and seniors shafts. Same choices for ladies as well.
Like your video. Thank you for your recommendations. I was recently fitted for the Qi irons. I liked them a lot but waiting to see if there's something else out there that would be better for my game. I am 65 yrs old and a 14 hcp. At my age, I' like to stay consistent yet get back down to a single digit hcp. My current irons are the Callaway Mavrik irons 4 thru AW. I seem to hit them high which is why I like them. I'd like to see a comparison like: Taylormade Qi vs Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons. I've always liked Callaway so before I migrate to these Taylormade Qi's, I'd like to get your thoughts on these 2 head to head. Thank you.
I just got my set of irons and noticed that the hosel/neck of the clubs are different and has jagged edges. This makes the swing sound completely different and strange. Take the 8 iron and 9 iron. Swing both in the air. You'll hear the difference. Anyone else notice this? It sounds like there's a lot more drag in the air swinging the 5-8 irons, but the 9 and wedges have the smooth/normal hosel.
Long term high handicapper here …in the 90’s i was down to ,I think the league had me at 11…now the app i use has me at 18-20…terrible was shooting low to mid 40’s then and now cant get out of mid 50’s for 9 …anyways i dont understand two things about the newer clubs having stronger lofts.. why? ..and second whats wrong with the extra distance for ANY golfer of any handicap ? the new qi 7i is 1 degree less than my old RAC 6i ,and it varies more or less through the set +/-…what i mean is if the club is getting you the distance of 2 clubs lower so what you have the rest of your clubs to adjust your playing distances to …..(like instead of hitting my old 7 id hit an 8 or 9 and be more accurate because of)..or, am i missing something ?
The TWs have a surprising long heel to toe length and also have tungsten embedded inside. They're honestly not that hard to hit solidly. With traditional lofts they are not going to go as far as these new springy faced, jacked lofts, wunderclubs for sure but will provide more consistency in distance control.
“Take the ego out of it”, says the 20 handicap golfer who says he’ll probably get the 770s. 😂. No, no you shouldn’t, you should be playing the 790s at most, and if you want more loft like you mentioned, simply order them at a higher loft. Cmon dude. P.S. For all of you golfers out there wanting to improve your game dramatically, new clubs aren’t the way to go, get lessons. Good golfers will kick your asses with any working club you give them made in the last 50 years. Getting new clubs every few years won’t improve your game much, but improving your swing will.
Well I practice everyday, and take lessons once a week. So I have the luxury to practice and improve. Don’t want clubs that are a band aid. I want to force my ball striking to improve.
@@embersgolf you should've said that in the video then! thats a decent reason, but I’d still go with the 790s until you’ve consistently improved your ball striking. The 790s aren’t even big by any means. Honestly, brother try shortening up your swing, take what you think are half swings, and focus on striking the ball well. My golf instructor had me on a weigh shifting board, wanted me to take “half” swings (they were more like 3/4) and I couldn’t believe how solidly I was hitting it, 6 iron 185 dead straight with good back spin, and not at elevation, that should help you.
p790 is probably one of the most forgiving iron heads in the players distance category. One thing though the foam inserts are more for acoustics, not forgiveness.
Honestly , you guys need a vid on the Qi10 driver, idk if it was the shaft for me but I hit my Facebook marketplace used regular flex old stealth driver much better than the Qi10, not sold yet but it quite literally might just be my shit swing .
good review I am trying to decide now between the PXG Black Ops or the Qi10 HL irons any thoughts anyone ? I am coming from stealth irons that i sold i did like them just want new irons lol thx cheers from Canada
Here’s a good question. After a year off of playing with my 790s I feel like I’m struggling. Would it be a bad move to switch to the qi10s or just go get things checked and replace or adjust the 790s being they’re forged. They’re also the 2019 model.
ok I have only been playing a year and using beginner set. I am improving quickly and playing alot. i have height and need a bit of distance assistance P790 or Qi?
The P790 will be a great step up for you, there is more growth that can be made in the 790. But right out of the gate the Qi will be more forgiving. But less room for growth
That’s awesome. I’m in California and will be headed to see you on Monday. I know you don’t have any P7 90s in stock but I wanna see your studio and of course meet you guys
@@embersgolf just sold my stealth irons the other day and upgraded to the P790s. Hope they take me to around the low 90s/ upper 80s with a bit of practice. Guess they aren't the most popular iron in golf for no reason
Both are great irons and could help you a lot. The 790's will feel the best of off the face in my opinion but the 530's are great too. The Qi10's will be the most forgiving in helping you be more consistent. Let me know if that helps or if you have any additional questions. Thanks for watching Lucky 👍
This was funny stuff, couple of dressed up bros and then the first hitter shows off a perfect chicken wing. lol. The clubs aren't low launching its your swing!!! Athe the "twerking" you are doing to fit clubs needs lessons instead.
