This man had the police called on him for babysitting! Cenk Uygur and Brett Erlich, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down.
    Read more here:
    www.buzzfeednews.com/article/...
"Corey Lewis was babysitting Sunday, and was finishing up lunch at Subway when he says a white woman started to harass and followed him, and then called the police - all because he was black and the children he was with were white.
Lewis, 27, runs a youth mentorship program in Marietta, Georgia, and was watching the children of David Parker and Dana Mango that afternoon. Their 6-year-old son attends Lewis's after-school program, Inspired by Lewis, the parents told CBS 46.
As they were finishing their sandwiches outside Subway, which is located in a Walmart in Marietta, Lewis said, the woman came up to his car to ask "if the kids were alright." The young girl was already in the backseat and they were waiting for her little brother to finish up his food so he wouldn't get crumbs in the car, Lewis explained to BuzzFeed News Tuesday night."

I have been falsely accused of 3 crimes in the past 2 years because of 'see something, say something'. Fortunately for me, video surveillance has exonerated me every time, and yet no punishment to the accusers. Even in the age of 1984, some justice will never be served. I've just learned to live with the crazies and their allegations.

I know. Calling the police on someone for no reason (especially with an accusation as serious as child abduction) is dangerous and potentially life-threatening to the accused. He could have been shot and killed if the police hadn't been so reasonable. He deserves compensation in civil court for having his life put in danger. I hope she gets sued. They said the kids' parent is a lawyer?

    • @ThexDynastxQueen
      @ThexDynastxQueen 5 лет назад +2

I get why people aren't instantly fined as you can just mistake a situation but when calling the cops on someone just BBQing or a kid selling lemonade or a kid walking home or an alleged kidnapping with 0 reasons beyond _"He black dey white, it dont add up!"_ as the kids weren't in distress then yeah in a ideal world you get fined and sued for harassing them.

Gets away? A citizen follows a potential kidnapping or child trafficking so she followed and it turned out to be false. Police resolved it quickly and efficiently.

LarsUlrichIsMe Ever heard of "cry wolf"? You don't ignore calls. It's as simple as that. Even if somebody tells you they got attacked by a laser from an alien spaceship, you still respond to at least make sure it's not an issue of a victim misinterpreting a serious situation. You never hung up, and you always ask questions. Discretion is dealing with the situation peacefully and effectively, like this cop did.

If you call any 999 services and it’s not an emergency then you can be charged and find for that as well. Their are local police numbers you can call but not 999. These are the assumptions:
Minority woman with white kids = She's the Nanny of white kids from white parents.
Minority woman with Asian kids = She's the nanny of Asian kids adopted by white parents.
White woman with Asian kids = Not a nanny, but is a parent
Minority man with white kids = Suspicious he might be a kidnapper.
White man with minority kids = Sometimes suspicious. Or he might be the parent or adopted parent.
This wasn't just racial profiling, it was sexist. It's always the assumption that men of any race aren't viewed a potential care givers.
Maybe I just wasn't raised in a prejudice way, or maybe because I've been around and grew up in mixed race settings... Seeing a black man with white kids, my first assumption is "camp counselor" or "after school counselor" or something. Especially someone his age. I would primarily assumed he was watching over his friends kids, or he was the care giver.

This is more of a male issue than a race one in my opinion, as there have been plenty of stories over the years of men, be they father or babysitter, having cops called on them for not looking like the child they are taking care of. The increase in such instances has likely also occurred as a shift gender roles is occurring with a rather dramatic increase in stay at home dads, etc. becoming more prevalent. It also does not help that the media tends to make people paranoid over such things.

Maybe when the lady called they should have said “who gives a fck that a black guy went to subway with two white kids. Were the kids crying? Did they seem distressed? Was the man acting strange in anyway?” If the answer is no to those questions then they SHOULDN’T GO INVESTIGATE. They tell the lady to stop wasting their time and call when a law is being broken or when she sees something truly suspicious happening. There has got to be a better way to do this than police acting as the obedient dogs to racists and their every whim.

Do you think kids would cry, seem distressed or act in a strange way when lets say their father comes and picks them up after school to leave with them? What you are saying is that its okay for kidnappers to take a kid as long as the kids are not showing signs of emotional distress. Also police officers should ALWAYS GO INVESTIGATE when they are called on even if its ridiculous. Grandma calls at 3am saying she heard footsteps outside her house for the 6th time that week, you go. Little boy calls on the phone and says he lost his crayon, you go. While it may seem ridiculous to you many times officers accidentally stumble upon a problem when there originally wasn't a problem. To all police officers, thank you for always dealing with our requests even when they are ridiculous.

Sly Quasar ...I get what you’re saying, but you are using a bag analogy of parents kidnapping kids. Racists calling the police on black people who they think are NOT the kids parents won’t help reduce parental kidnapping. BUT, having racists use the police to indulge their own neuroses wastes the polices time which takes away from investigating and solving real crime. Also a deep mistrust of police develops when people are harassed for doing normal everyday things. We can’t allow people to use the police as a way to harass everyday citizens because of their irrational fear and racism.
