  • @PaulineMontagna
    @PaulineMontagna 5 лет назад +13

    This is why you need compulsory voting. In Australia not only do all citizens have the duty to vote, but the government has the duty to ensure all citizens have the means and opportunity to vote. This includes laws that make it illegal to impede anyone’s right to vote or even to discourage people from voting. This is real democracy. Not what you have in the US, including the absurdity that officials who should be carrying out their duties without fear or favour are elected thus making it almost impossible for them to take on the job without biases or to carry out their job independently.

    Oh, it's worse than you think. It's not just forgetting to fill in a space in a form. The REAL trick is the names themselves. Let's say that someone is named D'Wayne or Shontay. They go to the DMV and get their driver's license, only the DMV clerk leaves out the apostrophe in D'Wayne or spells Shontay as Shontae. Boom! Rejected, because D'Wayne and Shontay know perfectly well how to spell their own names and spell it CORRECTLY on their registration forms. But the registration form doesn't match the mistake on the license, and neither does their signature when they go to vote. And which group are more likely to have unique spellings and punctuation marks in their names? Bingo! Black voters.

You can't say "it's the system" just because you're too damn lazy to tell them to fix your name and spell it correctly on your license! That is not a system problem. That is a personal problem. I'm all for pointing fingers at the racists but this example has nothing to do with race. PERIOD!

      @mikeatl33 5 лет назад

      W. J. You're saying two separate things here I think. First, you said, Georgia is extremely racist. Then, in the end you seemed to be more focused on the bougie aspect of the different areas around the city where folks live that have a little money. Racism is everywhere. That is a given. I've lived in GA my entire life. I've lived all around Atlanta for 22 years. There is a whole lot of pretentiousness going on for sure! But, the people that come off like that live paycheck to paycheck and are RENTING a one bedroom 750 sq. ft. studio NEXT TO the nicer areas of the city! LOL True story! The people that actually have money, don't have to flaunt it or act like they're better than anybody else.

      If you ever hear "I was following procedure" from an official, whether police or otherwise, swap those words out with "I was just following orders." If they say you're not registered, ASK FOR A PROVISIONAL BALLOT! *They are required BY LAW to give you the provisional ballot and make sure you get a receipt of that ballot.* After you vote, immediately go to where your voting offices are and provide your photo ID (Drivers Lic, Passport, even some states will accept Student ID).
