One of the best logo design videos I’ve seen on RUclips because she actually explains it instead of rushing through plus you get to see her actual sketches and even bits on illustrator that didn’t work. Would love more of these with this designer as learnt a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it Matthew :) hoping to do a few more similar style videos in the future. Thanks for the support! 💜
Yeah especially seeing the bits that didn't work. I was watching that carrot for the ages thinking it looked wrong but I didn't know how to fix it. Rachel's solution was dope, I learned a lot.
It's so inspiring!
Please do more videos like this with Rachel 🥺 This was so insightful and inspires me so much!
coming up!
Ah thank you Monique! Glad you enjoy them - there is another one on its way 😉
That was such a delight to watch! I do brand strategy and marketing for my clients, but this has inspired me to go back to my love of aesthetics and offer a package with the whole nine graphic yards in it as well. Well done Rachel!
I love how you walked through choosing brand colors. It was so helpful!
This is the first video I watched of yours and am totally floored. The step by step explanation is so helpful for novice people like me. Thanks a tonne and keep making such informative videos
This is the first video I've seen from this channel, but I have to say, this was so insightful and inspiring!!
Great job. Loved the pacing and the charming attitude dealing with difficulties and challanges. I won't be forgetting some great highlights! And one more thing... thorough work!
So enjoyable to watch. Absolutely love your tutorials and process
This was the video that I didn’t know I needed. Thank you so much for the time and work you put into this video.
I can't get enough of your videos. Please make more! I can't find any other designer that I like as much on RUclips :)
This was awesome. Loved how you kept it real and showed the whole process from what worked to what didn’t.
Great work and excellent explanation of your process!

Thank you for giving so much of valuable speech
Good to see you again Rachel! Good point on building the BUFFER $ that's why just charge more so you can hire someone or give you more time to figure it out. Love the logo too fun with the carrot!
Thanks Jeremy! Was great fun loosening up a bit with this one 😁🥕
It would have been so great to see the process of you putting together a mood board, what you search for, what makes the cut and why, etc.

Unreal explanation.
Hey awesome video, folks! Can you please do another video sharing your brand design process but for something more corporate? And also, it would really be cool if you included your brand deck templates in Figma! Thank you so so much!!!
tested on ios12 as well. so far it's good to use
Well done! Very engaging.
Thanks for watching! 💜
!!! Thanks a lot ...☺️☺️
Omg this is so good
💜🙌
this good ideas for me thanks
Hi Rachel, is it possible to make a video on how to make a moodboard and define the creative direction or style of the future brand. Please, this is one of the most difficult things for me, I know you have a great approach and good advice for me on this subject. Thanks, I'm looking forward to it.
can you make a video showing us how to use mock-ups?
nice tutorial
Great!
I think you’re one of the most insightful designers I’ve seen on RUclips when explaining your direction with the fictional brand when gathering and analyzing other people’s work. It shows in the mood board you gathered and I can see you have it in you. But things started to unravel for me during your logo sketching phase. There’s not enough variety. Every sketch looked like the next one and it really wasn’t adhering to any specific issues the brand might encounter when standing out from other brands on a shelf. The first thing a designer needs to think about when branding a company is not “Pinterest visual inspo.” It is problems. Every company has them. In this case, a startup has: less money, more problems. Think like a UX designer and think like a business owner. The first thing you tackle in UX and business are pain points and how does design fit around that, not the other way around. - AD with 20+yrs in the field.
I like the way you have articulated graphic design process should start from the point of solving the existing problems. More like starting with a Problem statement, then finding the perfect design that will fill the gap. I would love to have a look at some of your work. Can I get a link?
very nice and clean explanation, as always. you're cool Rachel.
I have a question: inventing a brief from scratch is not an easy thing to do, are there any methods or resources that help in its creation?
Great video! Super informative and helpful. No choice but to subscribe :)
yey! glad to have you with us Jasmine. More good stuff coming!
Welcome to the family Jasmine! 😊
🔥🔥🔥
Great work! Would you also recommend doing a Competitor Analysis during the Branding process? I've seen some do it and some don't. What are the pros & cons for it? Thanks again for explaining your process.
For a client project definitely, looking at competitors is key to understanding te market. But I just left it out if this practice project :)
you are better than Ran Segall . Your tutorials are more clearer and easy to understand . Watching rans video takes lots of energy from my side just to understand him 😂but you are awesome . Please make more videos 🤗
Hahahaha thank you! Ran is the one who taught me how to make good videos 😊 I appreciate the very kind compliment! More videos coming soon!
ty
I loved this so much! just a question though, how do you use your procreate illustrations across into illustrator? Just what does that process look like for you?
It would be so helpfull to see video focused in depth on strategy
Great idea. I’ll see what I can do :)
@@rachelhurry3449 Agreed! I'd love to learn about your strategy process.
Would it b helpful to bring the sketches in larger. It may trace them better. Just a thought.
Can you say roughly about how many hours you spent on this project? Really amazing work 😍
Sounds like you're from South Africa, great job.
Proudly 😁🇿🇦
Although the explanation is very elaborative and given with logic, will it be possible to explain the 4 areas of the strategy? and how the logo colour is chosen? like when the moodboard is made, what aspects from the strategy did you keep in mind? the colours, why did you choose those colours?
Do you recommend paper textured screen protectors?
ok I’ll try that lol
With regards to the color section, I sometimes feel that certain shapes, within the context of the overall logo, does not work with certain colors. So choosing a color that works with the shape of the logo as well is something to be considered too. But I could be wrong🤷♂️ it's just how my intuition feels when I'm designing logos.
Love this thinking!
I had a question for very long time regarding Contract.
Say that I took online signature on online contract form. But what is the point of it? How it's legally helpful? I just designed it and taking signature from him. If he does anything with my files, like not giving payment, how the contract paper will help then? If he is overseas, or in local places, how a self designed contract paper will help me get justice?
Make a video on contract if possible 🥺
Thank you!
Wow, I love those videos. You said you left a brief for downloading in the description below... I can't find that.
oops. added to the description now
@@FluxAcademy Thank you!
Why don't you use any graphic tablet while working on illustrator? I guess that would be much easier to manipulate those shapes !!
It’s a good point! And I would say my reasoning would come down to screen size. I like working with a bigger screen but you could definitely do the smoothing etc on the iPad app ☺️😁
@@rachelhurry3449 Yes.. screensize is a big issue for me .. I work on a laptop and I have a graphic tablet for these kinds of illustrations. Your video always inspires me to design something good and get better evryday.
Thanks a lot for contibuting to the global design comunity
Couldn't find the brief in the description link. It is redirecting to the RUclips video again
It's funny how some of the names are associated with the same industry, even if they come from different sources. In the 2000s there was a Benjys London sandwich shop. It was very successful at the time until it was sold for £40 million. It eventually collapsed in 2007. It sounds a little different, but still. There's a Benjies deli in New York. I haven't seen a flower shop or a locksmith called Benji yet)) And now even imaginary customers want a deli called Benjies.
Awesome video Rachel 💜 but I cannot find the brief you mentioned in min 55:13
Sorry! added to the description now.
@@FluxAcademy thank you so much! 🤗
This is an amazing run through from start to finish, thank you for sharing! I’m very new to Illustrator so it was great seeing the tips! One question, when I ungroup text and outline it, when I tried to move multiple letters it wouldn’t work. I did what I saw you saw and click and drag a box over to select them all, but when I clicked to move them it just grabbed one of the letters OR it would do a weird thing where some of the anchor points stayed out and everything skewed? Any ideas what I did wrong? Lol!
You need to regroup the letters so that they stay together - you can select them all and go to Object > group or use the shortcut CMD G or CNTRL G
@@rachelhurry3449 thanks :)
How about the golden ratio in logos? Is it important in this case?
In this case, no - but often the golden ratio can help with composition :)
Is the font you guys used in the thumbnail and lower thirds integral?
yep
how long does this take?
So where are the links to download the work files? The link provided takes you somewhere it says let us know where to send you the link to download the files. You sign up and that's all, nothing, no link sent. It happened with the Figma tutorial, and now this one.
But I always come across clients who's gonna say "we don't only sell carrot items, it highlights carrot a lot, can we remove the carrot and make something else". How would you defend this. On the other hand as a designer, I would def want to give a hint of local items on logo, and it looks good I know..however I want to learn to defend designs..
Why wasn't the sketching on the iPad a vector based illustration?
Good question - it’s mostly because I use the iPad to replace a normal sketchbook and I prefer the looseness and freedom of sketching freehand without worrying about being perfect in a vector based program :) I’d rather refine later in the process :)
Dear Rachel, I'm not a designer but I'm want to create a brand. Unfortunately I'm not the most artsy person so I want to hire this service. However I don't know a fair price for this service. Can you please share how much this process could cost? Thank you
I love you
It might be an idea to mention what a brand is - people's perception of you/your company. And because of that, branding is largely impossible. You can influence it in positive and negative ways. But there are as many impressions of you/your company out there as people.
words of Marty Neumeier, nice
@@crossxer6099 Search for an article called "Branding is bullsh**". Using vague buzzwords is popular, but I amm all for using better language.
Could you elaborate on why Branding is impossible?, there’s an entire industry around branding that makes it possible.
@@Fostit There is a whole industry using the word wrong. A logo is a logo. A corporate design guideline is just that.
A brand is what your customer thinks about you and your product. It is in their head. You can not design that. You can influence it. But that is not branding. people say they are going to design a brand. And they mean a logo.
You can influence your brand in a good way by doing good things. Behave well. Or you can do like VW did - try to cheat on tests and really hurt your brand.
A brand is closer to a reputation. It would not make sense to say that you are going to design a reputation? But as customers don't really know what a brand is, they hear the buzzword and are to intimidated to ask. The person claiming to do branding really must know what they are talking about, right?
@@SveinWisnaes I understand your points but I don't agree; Yes you can design a brand by taking in consideration company values, and the target audience for the company. That's the point of the whole process. Is designing something for a specific persona and this will influence on how they percieve your brand.
Branding is creating a way to communicate your values and make people feel empowered and related to it.
Can you design a valuable brand overnight? No, that I must say it's impossible, you have to build it, but you need the tools to achieve that goal and designing a branding concept is the first step.
