Wow, it looks so good! very inspiring, just carious how do you gauge legibility when working with type? the dotted Y is so creative but I fear people may read it as a V "Niftv"
That is a great point! Legibility is a huge part both of brand awareness and inclusion so it's worth having an extra think about. I try to put the design in a few contexts (colours, applications etc.) and sizes and then both review them myself and with the client. If we are unsure, we have used UsabilityHub in the past to run tests with people who don't know the brand. How about you? How do you like to approach legibility in your logo design process? 🙌

Currently doing a case study for a photography company. This video really came to my rescue because I have the ideas but I didn't know how to structure it. I have a question, tho: is it okay/ ethical if the final presentation has photos (for photography style) that are not my own?
Oh that is great, always nice when the timing works out like that ✨ For photographs, I like using sites like Unsplash where you are allowed to use the images without a specific license, but you can also buy access to places like Envato elements where they have a ton of photos, graphics and mockups you can use all within that license. As a rule, avoid using images you are not 100% sure about the license of since your client might like them and ask if they can use them :) Is that helpful? Let me know if you have any more questions 🙌
@@Kayla-app Life has a way of giving answers when you need it most, haha. It was super useful, I was unsure if it was okay since it's a presentation, but you made a really good point about how the client might like it and ask if it can be used.
@@Kayla-app I am still learning Illustrator. I used to do most of my designs in Fireworks and put off learning illustrator too long. I have completed an initial logo draft however.
Question: Is it possible for me to use the same information you provided about the brand Nifty and create a brand as a practice and a peace for my portofolio?
That is a great question! It depends on your experience level and the client. It can also depend on your costs such as the tax rate in your country. Here is my example: I started in 2015 and had no experience with branding. My very first branding project was around £750 and we worked for a charity. This was super low compared to other studios in the same city but we learned a lot and at that point we had no process so it was a good learning experience. I have now worked on about 70 projects and my rate for branding is typically between £4.000 - £7000 for the core brand and then we create a separate price for bigger illustrations, packaging or website design. Charities get a lower rate and I also use value based pricing so if the client has a more well known brand and there is more risk involved, the price will be higher than for a single person startup if that makes sense. We are based in Sweden and pay about 50% tax so the amount we can take out of the business is about half of that. I would love to make a more in depth video on how to calculate your pricing. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I can make sure to include them in the video 🙌
When I am creating a new brand where they don't have anything to go from before, I start by looking at competitors and the feeling my client wants to create. By using mor vibrant, softer or even black and white in your brand, you can create a sense of energy, calm or timelessness. I try to start with the 60:30:10 rule where I pick three colours that compliment each other and use them in that proportion. This means that 60% colour can be backgrounds and larger areas, the 30% supportive and the 10% accents that you want to highlight. Like buttons for example. I have so many other things I think about so I am actually making a video all about colour so keep an eye out :) 🙌
Hi Kayla I hope you will answer my question. I am a beginner in branding, and I want to know what the correct size are, if it is a box, bottle, bag, etc. How do I know the sizes if I want to design and is it in pixels or inch ?
Hi Maryam, that is a great question. How big you need to make your design for print depends on the exact product your client has picked. The printers website usually lets you download something called "dielines" that will show how large the artwork is (usually in millimeters or centimeters/inches) and it will also have valuable information about what is called "bleed". Bleed is an additional area (often 3-5 mm) that we add to the outside of a design to allow the item to be printed safely without anything being cut off. For digital designs like social media posts or a website banner we often use pixels. I made a video on how to design packaging for print that you might find helpful. You can find it here. ruclips.net/video/KlalV4vLa8A/видео.html Good luck with all your designs! Just let me know if you have any other questions 🙌
Hi thanks for sharing Just I wonder should I design brand identity for a client 3 design or just one and sent for him How do I know the size and shape of the box? Does the client send me the measurements and shape, or does the designer have to design the shape and size???
Hi, those are all great questions! How many concept you show your client is up to you. Many designers just like to show one because they can put all their efforts into it. I show 3 because we usually have a few different directions that could work and clients sometimes surprise you with their choice :) For packaging design, in most cases, the client will already know of the printer they want to use. Printers have something called dielines. They can usually be downloaded from their website or you can ask them to send it to you over email. If the label is very simple, like the wrap of a bottle, they might only give you the dimensions and you can set up the document yourself in Adobe Illustrator or InDesign. Printers are usually very nice so don't be afraid to ask them for help! I hope that answers your questions, thank you for watching! :)
Plz anyone tell me after making all materials of branding in Adobe from which application or software I can gather all my stuff and make a presentation on pc
Great question, are you thinking of the concept presentation or more about sharing the actual files with clients? You could use Power Point or even Canva to put together a brand presentation or brand guide. I also like using InDesign for brand guides. In terms of sharing files, any cloud storage that allows you to share a link (like Dropbox or Google drive for example) is perfect. I hope that helps! 🙌

I would love to make a more in depth video on how to calculate your pricing. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I can make sure to include them in the video 🙌
How do you decide the colors that your use?
When I am creating a new brand where they don't have anything to go from before, I start by looking at competitors and the feeling my client wants to create. By using mor vibrant, softer or even black and white in your brand, you can create a sense of energy, calm or timelessness.
I try to start with the 60:30:10 rule where I pick three colours that compliment each other and use them in that proportion. This means that 60% colour can be backgrounds and larger areas, the 30% supportive and the 10% accents that you want to highlight. Like buttons for example.
I have so many other things I think about so I am actually making a video all about colour so keep an eye out :) 🙌
Hi Kayla
I hope you will answer my question.

Good luck with all your designs! Just let me know if you have any other questions 🙌
@@Kayla-app Thank you so much for replying to me, it helped me alot.
Hi thanks for sharing
Just I wonder should I design brand identity for a client 3 design or just one and sent for him
How do I know the size and shape of the box? Does the client send me the measurements and shape, or does the designer have to design the shape and size???
Hi, those are all great questions! How many concept you show your client is up to you. Many designers just like to show one because they can put all their efforts into it. I show 3 because we usually have a few different directions that could work and clients sometimes surprise you with their choice :)
For packaging design, in most cases, the client will already know of the printer they want to use. :)
@@Kayla-app thank you
Plz anyone tell me after making all materials of branding in Adobe from which application or software I can gather all my stuff and make a presentation on pc
@@Kayla-app thank you so muchhh❤️❤️
Which app did she use this
Hi! I used Procreate to create the Illustrations, Milanote for the mood board and Adobe Illustrator to create the rest of the brand. I hope that helps! :)

I Illustrate in Procreate on my iPad and build out the brand in Adobe Illustrator. Was there another tool you saw that you would like the name of?
