Hate to be the bearer of bad news but pc building is dying hard with the massive price increases. The only reason sales are up is because of corporate purchases. Actual consumers have become a very small % of sales and many people don't even have a desktop computer at home anymore. We had all kinds of people young and old building 10 years ago. Now many working adults can't afford a build at today's costs.

A store like this is a dream. I wish we would have a Micro Center in Berlin, Germany. At least we have some basic PC stores where you typically go to let your PCs get repaired or built. But in terms of buying hardware, they are so small that you normally don't grab and buy stuff. They order it for you as you would do it from home and it's landing in their store, so you have to come back.
In best case, I would like to buy my PC hardware in the store including a good consulting, take it home and then puzzling it together. This way I don't have to wait days for like 10 deliveries (which, besides the waiting time, produces packaging trash and extra drives by logistics companies).

MicroCenter seems to be taking over the market that Frys used to rule then abandoned but being far more smart about the product selection. Frys used to be great until they started buying shiploads of the cheapest most random Chinese junk to clutter up their stores with and none of the display cases ever worked.
This tour shows that MicroCenter seems to be sticking to the computing theme and not straying very far from it which means they could have lasting power I believe.
I am shocked at the pace of new store openings given just how long they went with only a handful of stores and no aspirations of opening very many more, if any, it seemed.

Microcenter does have some of the random cheap Chinese "tech related" stuff but it is mostly kept to the checkout lines. Last time I was in the Chicago store they had several obviously pretty bad imitation iFixIt kits, tiny vacuums for cleaning inside tech gear and bunches of even less memorable stuff. But I wouldn't even have noticed if the line hadn't been about 5 minutes long.

I think it's smart on Micro Center's part to grow at an sustainable rate. Sure it leaves a lot of people out, but at least it prevents what typically happens where they overestimate their reach, open a bunch of stores, lose money, do a bunch of things customers don't like to recoup costs like promoting loyalty cards and financing in every transaction, and then eventually closing stores thus taking away a good computer resource from the community.

I'm an old greybeard PC gamer, and built my first PC around 1998 or so, and never looked back. But between work and other "life stuff," I've had no time or energy to build a new machine in the last few years. And I had a medical situation to boot, which made actually venturing out to someplace like Micro Center a really taxing proposition (not impossible, but very taxing). But I still keep up with developments in the PC hardware space (with your channel playing no small part!).
I was able to pick all of my own components on the MIcro Center website, just as I would if I were building the machine, and have my local Micro Center here in Indianapolis assemble it for me. From start to finish it was less than a full day (ordered it in the morning, picked it up in the early evening), and they did a bang-up job. Fit and finish was pretty much flawless, everything was configured properly, no issues. I had to enable EXPO to get my memory running up where it should be, but that's about it.
I'm hopeful that by the time this beast (7950X3D & 79000 XTX) needs to be upgraded or replaced, things will have settled down for me and I'll be able to do it myself. But if not, I'm really glad that Micro Center is there. And even if I don't need them to build it for me, I'll most definitely be buying my components there.

We’ve had one in the Twin Cities for fifteen/twenty years. Hands down the best computer store I’ve ever been in. They were an enormous help when I was building, and now they’re an enormous help for prebuilt systems. But this new one in N Carolina looks gorgeous.

Canada NEEDS a MicroCenter! I'm in the Vancouver, BC area and our local stores are not great. The sheer size and amount of product actually on hand would be a breath of fresh air out here. If logistical issues with cross border stuff, please, please, please... next best thing would be Seattle, WA.

@@88racing1 at least you have something. Seattle has nothing, but Amazon is a massive barrier for a Seattle area location.
I have noticed a fear of Amazon in the Seattle area. The two Best Buy locations in Spokane are better stocked with hardware than any location in Seattle. Also, I noticed Amazon was trying to outprice Fry's when they were still around.
Amazon isn't 100% reliable, either. If I need a part quickly, they're maybe 85% reliable at best. They've fallen short way too many times with the same-day delivery getting delayed, or the driver botching up where to deliver the item.

as long as theres a big market for it they will have a big store in the area. i have to drive 3 hours to get to mc in the states i been there before to check it out. but i just use amazon so i dont have to waste 6 hours driving.

L.A is the closest one and thats's sooooo far.... C'mon guys we have Microsoft and INTEL HQ here and lots of tech up here and nowhere to get our stuff!

I was there the first weekend they were open. Let me tell you, it looked A LOT different with hundreds of people inside and the 90 minute line to check out. Oh, I bought at 4090 and some custom water cooling loop stuff...and nick nacks that I couldn't avoid in the check out line lol
