two small hater things hippoboy: A)1300 hrs isn't anything in cs i have 3k+ and thats not a lot compared to others b) you didn't risk a ban, valve are not banning just kicking
Kinda messed up to gatekeep skill behind an expensive peripheral. It’s a free to play game. People would be big mad. My comment is not a response to anyone. I can read just fine, but I can also declare my opinion equivalently.
i'm done playing CS since 2017 until they fix the cheater problem ... i've hopped in a game or two to see if anything changed and it hasn't ... the free accounts areas there's literally 5v5 cheater fest and with payed accounts you still get one or two every other game ... i expect 0 every other game or i can spend my time having fun elsewhere thank you very much
yeah it is actually fucking crazy to me how they can detect something on a hardware level but not people bunnyhopping perfectly around the map spinbotting instant headshotting everyone through walls
cheating gets really advanced, some people use 2 computors and take the input from one pc and give the data to another one to alter the movement, aiming, visuals etc. completely undetectable unless you have human detectors
Keyboard inputs are part of the stuff that can be easily read in replays and general detection since its all already going through their servers in order to make multiplayer function at all, as opposed to dedicated cheating software which has built in obfuscation.
iirc valve did use a similar method in order to detect spinbotters but then legit players sarted to immitate spinbotters by using a high DPI and moving the mouse fast and they got banned for that. Turns out that if Valve want's to not just kick but ban someone, they need more evidence than suspicious looking inputs. And just kicking spinbotters if there is not enough to warrant a ban wouldn't work either because they'd effectively tell the spinbotter that his cheat has been detected giving him a chance to adjust it and bypass detection.
For the record, I've been getting kicked for input automation on a normal keyboard with no input automation tools. CS2's detection has a LOT of false positives and should not be used as a good example of anti-cheat.
I bought a wooting just a week ago. Now that SOCD is gone, I'm not even unhappy. I really only bought it because of the great things I heard about it before SOCD. If anything it makes it more fair for those who dont just have 200$ to spend on just a keyboard. I still love the wooting because of how customizable and responsive it is. So yes, even without SOCD, wooting still has my heart.
so 200$ for a keyboard is too much, but a 500$ 360hz monitor isn't? Seems like they just wanted to protect comp players...or there game. regardless of play input.
@niodix ive been recently kicked from a game even though i dont even own a razer or wooting keyboard, other people also have gotten kicked from getting perfect strafes in a row
@niodix it was the offical game kicking me, not the votes, there's even people doing speed runs on RUclips trying to get kicked from strafing. I'm assuming the threshold for perfection is quite low.
Controversial opinion. I don't think this should be banned given that is essentially just removing input lag. Those skills were developed to compensate for a limitation that existed in technology and now that this limitation is gone, that skill is no longer necessary. People with the best PC specs and no ping are going to be better at a game, this is essentially the same. The reason this is such a big deal is because no real keyboard advancements have really been made in recent years and this is a huge, rather than gradual jump. Even if they do ban the SOCD in other places tho there is still a real advantage to analog switches, its just a smaller one.
For what its worth, this became an issue in fighting games (mostly Street Fighter) because SOCD made it so that charge characters would have instant specials and allow for things that either requires frame perfect execution normally to be done with ease or simply would not be possible normally. Now your controller has to have it so that SOCD defaults to neutral (pushing left and right together makes it so that they cancel out) which is a solution but also allows for weird shortcuts because of how the game reads inputs In any case, its interesting how a different conpetitive gaming scene processes the same issue we dealt with awhile ago in the FGC
Should be noted only Capcom so far is strictly enforcing Up+Down=Neutral for Street Fighter 6's CPT events You'll likely be allowed to use Up Priority (AKA the original Hit Box's default resolution/the other one with Instant Flash Kick) anywhere else unless otherwise specified, in most cases just also make sure L+R=Neutral
I recon this is an issue with keyboard controllers only, because with physical joysticks pressing both directions should be impossible. I wouldn't be surprised if gamepads do it in firmware for the D-pad though, because of how D-pads aren't supposed to, but sometimes do report two directions at once. I once made myself a Sega gamepad to USB adaptor, where I implemented this. The cheap knock-off gamepad I had got did not have a proper pivot and sometimes reported both left and right when I pressed up or down hard enough and I had noticed that some old games acted weirdly when that happened.
I have a feeling that some actual professionals will be kicked for automation even though it was purely his skill. Knowing how Valve's "anti-cheat" works.
@@felixjohnson3874 Yes... its mechanical skill. At the level they play at, mechanical skill needs to be perfect, so they will likely end up with issues for legitimate skill.
@@onecore2083 1 "the level *_they_* play at" ah, so we all shouldn't have objectively better input methods because other people have learned to use worse ones and itd be impolite for us plebians to be able to do what they can. Kind of saw this being the case. The fighting game community went through the whole SOCD debacle with the leverless (aka HitBox) controllers for a couple years. It is still not perfect, but at least there is some precedence being set. It will up to the developers and tournament organizers to come to an agreement on their stance of whether or not SOCD is legal or which version of SOCD is legal.
Yeah as more of a fighting game guy, seeing an SOCD debacle hit the FPS community has been wild, especially the spark being Last Input Priority on the Razer keyboard, welcome back Gafrobox lol Seeing this kind of ban being enforced at a game anticheat level is kind of insane too
@@Klipik12 it's a super interesting topic tbh. Two things mainly: Games didn't expect ➡️⬅️ inputs from a lever and had unintended reactions to it, for instance walking forward while blocking. And, a lever needs to travel thru the neutral "no input" zone to go from side to side, but a leverless skips that, esp if it works like snap tap and goes from ⬇️ to ⬆️ without making you release ⬇️ first. These days, games expect or require that ⬅️➡️ and ⬆️⬇️ inputs cancel each other out to equal no direction input, and that your leverless controller should hand those inputs to the game to process instead of trying to "fix" it themselves with SOCD stuff like snap tap.
Yeah, it was a big enough thing that there was a brief period hitbox players were beating more established pros, simply because it let them functionally cheat charge moves. Like, walking forward with Guile and then doing an instant Sonic Boom into Flash Kick bc after you started walking you began holding back and down. SF6 just made simultaneous inputs neutral. There's still some minor speed advantages because you can get functionally zero time during where a joystick would travel, but it's not the literal cheating it was before. IIRC There's a firmware upgrade for the original Hitbox, the new ones have this built in, and the competing companies have all moved to do it that way as well
The thing that appeals to me about the potential of analog keyboards isn't the rapid response, is the potential for gradual input like an analogue trigger on a gamepad. Using it for things like driving in games like GTAV or Cyberpunk 2077. I want the effect of an analog stick on my keyboard.
I mean that was what analog keyboards like the wooting were originally made to do, before everyone making them realized it was way more profitable to just advertise to the esports crowd
This kinda reminded me of that Roccat Isku Force FX Keyboard with those couple buttons with 3 different sensitivities. Not sure how that worked, but it already was a pretty cool idea back then but it never really catched on i feel like
ngl valve responding to a keyboard feature more than to acc cheaters is crazy and secondly even if u learned that skill the anti cheat still kicks u bc it doesnt seperate between socd and acc counterstrafing
I mean any mechanical keyboard in the world can do SOCD that's the whole point behind using a mechanical keyboard, being able to hit multiple keys at the same time without restriction. Valve should implement an in game feature that disable this instead of what their doing currently BUT how do u disable a feature that's been on FPS games since almost day one since we started using WASD movement this whole thing is the stupidiest shit I've seen in a while. (and boy am I glad m not part of competitive fps scene anymore)
Yeah duh. Just playing wont make you better. If you truly want to get better in anything (including sports, programing, idk welding, put here whatever you can think of) feedback and analysis is a must have. Watching youtube tutorials and guides is neither feedback or analysis (but it can help tiny bit).
Hours =/= skill if you don't train individual mechanics. Just playing doesn't help you analyze what you need to improve. In this vid Hipyo showed that the only thing he plays is CSGO/CS2. You have to play an aim trainer like Aim Labs or Kovaak's to actually improve your aim skill for example.
@@ThePsycho211 @heatnup You do not have to, but it can help. After that, they told me that they gave up on becoming pros cause they did not see they gained the progress "talents" have... 0.o
240hz monitors, hall effect switches and good internet is all cheating too because not everyone is equal in the playing field so banning a simple keyboard feature is hypocrisy, they need to also hard lock games to 60fps and force the same ping on everyone during a match, now that's fair.
Some people are born with better brains, hand-eye coordination and are just superior in every single way. But this has nothing to do with skill. They are born this way. So we should really find a different way to even out the playing field.
@@Mr.Reality no. you're purposely adding nonsensical claims trying to disprove me pointing out objective hypocrisy. You're adding biology into a situation that's only the hardware level, monitor? That's hardware, internet? That's hardware, server ping? That's hardware and snap tap? That's also hardware. Snap tap just determines the function of a key when it's pressed which happens on the hardware level. Very basic setting, no one was complaining about the jump nade binds for perfect nade throws but all of sudden the crybabies started flooding when a key setting arrives on a keyboard.
@@TheRealName7 240Hz monitors, hall effect switches, and good internet being "cheating" falls flat because those are improvements within the standard boundaries of gameplay. They enhance what's already there. Better visuals, faster response, smoother gameplay. But these don’t fundamentally alter the mechanics of the game itself. They still require skill, reflexes, and strategy to make use of those advantages. They don’t automate or simplify actions in a way that bypasses skill. The snap tap feature you’re defending is not just a "basic setting." It's a hardware modification that changes the functionality of a key to perform complex actions with a single press. This isn't just improving your ability to execute in the game; it’s simplifying execution to a level where it’s no longer about skill but about letting the hardware do the heavy lifting for you. Imagine if there were a keyboard that could predict which key you meant to press and did it for you if you missed. Would you still say that's fair just because it’s "hardware"? Of course not. It’s a slippery slope, and snap tap is on that slope.
@@Mr.Reality It is a slippery slope, but it is what it is. Hardware will continue to get better and as a result, we'll continue to get features like these. It takes away skill? I guess, but skill doesn't matter as much as simply getting the win. That's all that matters. So if controller users should switch to keyboard to perform better, by that same logic, keyboard users should switch to these better keyboards.
@@roguescorner9042 I understand where you're coming from, but we need to draw a line between what's considered a natural evolution of gaming and what actively undermines the competitive integrity of it. Yes, hardware will always improve, and features that enhance gameplay will continue to emerge, but not all advancements are equal. There's a fundamental difference between hardware that enhance a player's natural skill like a 240Hz monitor or a high quality mouse and hardware that automate decision making or execution for the player. "getting the win is all that matters" seems to imply that how you achieve that win is irrelevant. But in any competitive arena, whether it's sports, games, or even chess, how you win absolutely matters. The satisfaction and legitimacy of victory come from knowing you outperformed your opponent based on skill, strategy, and mastery of the game not because your hardware made critical decisions for you. The snap tap feature isn't just an "upgrade" like better internet or faster visuals. It's crossing into the realm where the line between player input and automation becomes blurry. It's no longer about reflexes, timing, or strategy but about a shortcut that diminishes the need for precision and skill. Gaming technology will always evolve, but not all innovations are beneficial for the competitive landscape. If we start accepting features that automate critical gameplay functions, we risk turning games into contests of who has the better hardware, not who is the better player. And that, at its core, takes away from the essence of what competitive gaming is about.
Now they need to ban expensive pads, high-frequency mice and monitors, good headphones, powerful computers. Your computer should not output more than 60 fps for fair play.
cs is an esport, and an especially mechanical one at that. counterstrafing is basically the digital version of dribbling in basketball. from a game design perspective it's pointless and unnecessary, but from a player perspective it changes how the game is played in an interesting and unique way. sometimes "good game design" isnt the best decision for a game
@@mmbasedgodthe terrible nonsensical recoil system of the game was also skill based yet it was stupid and obnoxious to learn. It took valve over 10 years to allow and enable by default the feature that makes the crosshair align with where the bullets will actually go. This whole "dilemna" is a perfect example of lunacy. How anyone can think that limiting gameplay using hardware tech is insane to me. If you dont want a player to be able to instantly strafe the opposite direct or stop immediately, then program the game physics accordingly.
Exactly, Escape from tarkov did exactly that, You can have this enabled all you want and your character will still move in the direction you were originally going for a split second.
They do want that, and they don't want people to be able to buy into it. Why is this so hard to understand? Hardware to get rid of a game mechanic requiring skill is obviously in the same class as cheating.
Not the same thing. At all. The keyboard issue allows players the ability to circumvent a game mechanic. Mouse acceleration doesn't circumvent game mechanics. Try again.
lol I actually checked their website and they r coming out with their rapid line of keyboard soon. but that's when all the hype is dead. so ur right lol they getting away with nothing
@@ASTRALEGION theres a difference. higher refresh rate is an advantage but it's not an unfair advantage. higher refresh rate more accurately reflects the game visuals, but it doesnt show you things that arent visible to you or automate anything. the equivalent of 360hz monitor on a keyboard would be rapid trigger, it more accurately reads your inputs but you still have to input manually. snap tap/socd is the equivalent of having ai wallhacks in your monitor that show where enemies are before you even peek them
Alright, so if SOCD/snap tap needs to be banned, then so does customized key bindings, customized sensitivity and dpi settings, and to regulate what exact hardware you need to play and not allow ANY customization.
It's not because they couldn't be bothered to prove anything. Show me statistical outcomes that changed a damn thing in how games played out. This is a fraction of a fraction of the problems CS has.
its crazy how wooting or razer was known for this snappy tappy when drunkdeer release this feature (last win) back in june and now i think akko or other company that has magnetic switch are going to update their software with this feature
Woot wooting is such an old technique, the fact that they now have kernel level anti cheat banning the use of a keyboard meant specifically to make it easier is crazy. Exploiting every bit of game mechanics is the bread and butter of competitive gameplay.. Animation canceling, counter strafing, wooting.. It all amounts to the same thing.
Some corrections: rappy snappy was a feature they announced a while back, that is based on furthest pressed key. In response to this, razer, who had already been losing the keyboard arms race, released snap tap. Wooting then released their SOCD feature (not rappy snappy) after everyone was like “well we bought ur keyboard to have the best, and this is greenlit by ESL and it’s much better than rappy snappy soooo” so in response they released SOCD after holding a poll. But SOCD and rappy snappy are fundamentally different. Wooting is still by far the best keyboard on the market and has been for the last two years even without these features. Best rapid trigger and actuation point dialing out rn.
I'm surprised that nobody is talking about how keyboard companies will respond to this, most likely introducing variable delta times between each input to the point that the game engine can no longer safely differentiate between this and a dialed in pro player. This is gonna get ugly and I don't think we've seen the end of this yet.
"good. i hope aimbot keeps developing and leaving incompetent developers seething" i love this comment because it so plainly displays how much of a lie the narrative around socd is. people say it should be allowed because "its more responsive" "counterstrafing is a bad mechanic anyway" but you just admit you want an unfair advantage lol
you have discovered the concept of closet cheating. nothing that can be done really. all sorts of games are facing the same issue with arduino aimbots and dma wallhacks
Rapid Trigger is literally talked about in exactly that way. You essentially need it for Valorant and Osu, and it's a bloody good bonus in CS2 as well. There is a reason nearly all Valorant pros are using Wootings/other RT enabled keyboards. For Osu, there are many, many players who consider it cheating. Honestly, it should be for Val/CS too, but RT is impossible to detect in use, unlike SnapTap/SOCD, and would have to be hardware ID banned, which is spoofable very easily. I went from Gold 3 to Ascendant 2 in Val inside of a month after getting a RT keyboard. I also ended up 6* (top rank/top ~2%ish or less of players) in Hunt: Showdown in about the same timeframe. At least for me it's been a crazy buff to movement in FPS games in general, like something just 'clicked' with RT, and I'm not even using the really good RT Wooting has, it's a much cheaper brand with 4x the latency. There hasn't been a hardware advantage this big since >125hz polling/flawless/high IPS mouse sensors became available. SOCD/SnapTap crossed the line into automating input, or more accurately the LACK of an input.
I’m actually very confused. Why are these keyboards band but not mice with high DPI or monitors with high refresh rates? It’s like when PlayStation was mad because people were using mouse and keyboard instead of controller as it was unfair.
@@UnluckyOctopus high DPI/hz/refresh don't change your inputs, they simply reduce the error and improve latency/motion clarity. They just make them more accurate and consistent with what you actually did/pressed/moved. SnapTap/SOCD/RappySnappy all alter your inputs by ignoring something you are still inputing in order to gain an advantage. It's not telling the game what you input, it's telling the game that you lifted off of a key when you in fact have not because it's more beneficial if you had. You did not time the action to counterstrafe, your keyboard did it for you. It's like using spellcheck in a spelling bee. It's doing what you SHOULD do, not what you did do. This is why 'input automation' is a good term for Valve to have used for the banning of these features.
@@NeonMako I’m still a bit confused. The keyboard plays the game for you? It knows when to push and release keys with out your input? So it’s like those pianos that play themselves?
If they ban snap tap, they need to ban linear kb switches, 8k mouse sensors and pads, glass skates, GPUs, CPUs, high ress high refresh rate monitors, hifi headphones, routers with QOS, and the list goes on and on, all of which give you a mechanical advantage over the competition. It is a technology that everyone can use for less money than almost anything else in your setup.
I have a cheap dollar store keyboard right now and have been kicked a few times due to this. I have 5k hours just in CSGO/2 and many more in the older games. I have been practicing all that time and got very good at counter strafing. The issue right now is if you have good timing or have movement close to the feature without even having the binds or hardware, you will still get kicked. I think they really need to adjust the cap because people who put years and years of practice to strafe properly should not be punished for being good. And that is what it feels like right now. I don't think it detects the actual function, just if your inputs are close to being close to perfect too often.
i think there's a fine difference between skill and game requiring obscene time of training for muscle memory, not many people have time to train their muscle just for a game.
That's fine, then don't learn the mechanic. You could apply this exact same logic to aimbotting lol. "Not everybody has time to learn to aim perfectly". Ok, then just accept that you have a certain skill level and play there.
@@mariolovesleonedwardsactually they can . If they added a fixed period animation after pressing a key . It will set a minimum response time . But it will fu*k the entire feel of the game.
@@mariolovesleonedwards they very easily can just like it took them like 5 minutes to figure out how to track down snap tap abusers. Rapid Trigger is just a whole different beast and not worth banning.
They don't need to ban it, it's mitigated in software in many games already. To the point that if you're buying that feature for competitive it's in the realm of placebo or at best "feel", unless you have a very specific use case where you know it works.
Apex player here. Would love to see this sort of detection for xim/strikepacks/etc. Wootings keyboard is still incredible for competitive fps before that feature, so unless you bought it to specifically cheat then you still got an incredible keyboard.
The ban of Rappy Snappy/SOCD/Snap Tap is not just. It is the result of bad programming from Valve's side allowing such a short timer to change inputs and reach max accuracy. As much as I don't like Valorant, it does a few things correct; one of those things is an in-built timer on how fast you can actually counter strafe and reach full accuracy. It is not a slow timer by any means but it results in Snap Tap not being able to bypass that built-in timer from counter strafing and direction changes to full accuracy. Valve just did the scumbag approach to fixing this by kicking people for it in competitive play. What happens if you running normal rapid trigger and the game thinks you are running SOCD because it emulated the same inputs? It probably isn't possible but it could definitely happen out of a fluke. What should have been done is the Valorant method by adding that timer to limit the direction change speed to accuracy. If their player count wasn't already bad enough, it now is thanks to this move. TL;DR they should have programmed a timer in for counter strafing instead of banning the feature outright and taking the easy way out.
I should reface a little bit, in osu and rhythm games, they should not have an inbuilt timer to how fast you can press keys and thus they should ban these kinds of features (which they have and have stood by for many many years)

It's a matter of time, when these keyboard inputs become the standard There is no reason to pretend as if it's working in "wrong" or "cheating" way It just works as it was supposed to work from day 1, but wasn't due to limitations
I don’t have an opinion on whether this is cheating or not, but what I will say is that the messaging on that kick needs to be way clearer. There’s too many people that just don’t keep up to date with gaming news and whatnot so they might enable it, get kicked, and then just be really confused because the wording implies some kind of script or macro lol. That’s my only gripe with this.
In theory a keyboard manufacturer can mechanically connect the A and D keys via a rod so that both keys cannot simultaneously send input. At this point it would not be software automation but a physical limitation of the keyboard. Would this still be considered "cheating"? I think the better option is for games to introduce a momentum mechanic if they don't want players to have the ability to instantly change the direction of their movement.
hardware exists to show the game what the player is doing physically. i'd argue hardware that is less functional and doesnt accurately reflect player inputs is in general grounds for a ban. obviously this would have to be applied on a case by case basis though. a shitty keyboard that sometimes doesnt register a key would be different to a pro player bringing a keyboard with hardware level macros on it
hey hipyo tech, just wanted to say thanks for helping me find good keyboards. i bought a yunzii that i saw on one of your shorts and i absolutely love it !!
the hate-train was insane, this feature may give you a slight boost in performance ceiling, even pros were doing worse with this, the reason why is that they are not used to it, people talked about this as if you were going to be automatically better by using this, this is just wrong lol
“This keyboard revolutionizes gaming and provides more accurate inputs” Value: “we dont like revolutions… or accuracy” *bans* Games spent money on a new keyboard with the intent of utilizing 1 specific feature to help make them better and paid $$$ for that one feature compared to other boards. Now Value just says nope and it means a bunch of gamers who thought it was just a keyboard designed to be more accurate with inputs are out big $ because they cant use the keyboard for its original marketed purpose. Not sure if Value W or L tbh.
…It's not cheating because developers of one game with a long-standing gameplay loop that never considered SOCD being a thing decided to ban SOCD; there are MANY more competitive games that have welcomed and embraced SOCD for years that likely won't take the same stance now that keyboards have parity with controllers. Point stands for legacy games that decide to follow suit (likely FPSes in which the devs did not account much/well rapid lateral movement in a SOCD manner)
The keyboard itself still does offer advantage in those games, even without snap tap and rappy snappy. Just having the hall effect switches and being able to have rapid trigger dramatically improves the games' response times to almost 0, but while still needing to handle the inputs properly yourself and not being automated. It still does feel a bit cheaty even with just that. I don't think it should be banned though as it's just the hardware of the keyboard, not input automation
I already had a Wooting. Itried it and the thing is that it doesn't even work in all games. This leads me to believe that the game could certainly disable it too. SOCD is not really unique to those keyboards. It's something that the fighting game community is well familiar with. The game can definitely decide what happens when certain inputs are used at the same time. So I think these companies that are kick/banning people using it are just looking for positive publicity. They could just turn it off
@@guesswork Turn it off.... There is no way for a game to turn it off. They could choose to detect when it happens and then ignore the input or kick players like in CS2. They can't disable a feature that is literally in your keyboard without doing some seriously sketchy stuff that wouldn't work in practice.
Looking at this from the outside is interesting, especially as a TF2 player. Null binds have existed for years in TF2 just by using certain configs and as far as I'm aware, nobody really complains about it that much. It doesn't help that the default settings in TF2 are absolutely terrible, but still.
This isn't cheating, it's literally just removing hardware limitations. This is removing the need to learn unnecessary skill based around hardware limitation, not based on game mechanics. The less hardware limitations given by peripherals, the less you can blame them for your lack of skill. The REAL problem here is that the new hardware is not widespread, and this can be interpreted as an unfair advantage, but it's more that tech is just improving. It should be embraced as a new standard rather than be stomped out. To rephrase, this only removes latency from hardware, enabling you to not need to account for it in your movement, which is why I call it a skill based around the limitations of peripheral input rather than game mechanics.
This isn’t quite accurate. These keyboards are simulating a pressed key being unpressed. If you press D while still holding A, it will immediately communicate to the game that A is unpressed. That’s not latency.
I have the Wooting 60HE and still love it. Feels great and you can still adjust the actuation per key. I’m more irritated that CS doesn’t allow in game binds now
other games will do this, but cs will always have neutral socd because counterstrafing is so ingrained in the gameplay. sometimes "bad game design" is desireable for an esport that is trying to replicate the physical sensation of real life sports
"Why remove a skill element in a skill based game" is nice sounding line, but this can be said for a lot of things in games. Why allow custom sensitivity or DPI? People can spend years to train and learn a specific DPI. I personally don't care as I don't really play games that benefit from this feature anymore, but "why remove skill from a skill based game" or "people have trained for x amount of time to develop this skill" is not really a compelling argument. I also wonder HOW they are detecting this yet CS has always been completely filled with other cheats like wall hacks and aim bots. Wish Value would focus their resources on actually detecting cheats that fundamentally ruin the game. Or develop Half Life 3, I would forgive Valve of everything if they just actually develop Half Life 3.
It's funny how in fighting games, non-SOCD peripherals would be considered cheating since you could block while walking forward. Same feature, different outcomes.
Same, but tbh in my testing with a returned, RGB-defective Razer Huntsman v3 I already massively benefitted from the still-allowed Rapid Trigger... So my 250 for Wooting won't go to waste.
Wooting still has a pretty big advantage over other keyboard with being able to change the actuation point and rapid trigger, if anything now there’s a bigger gap between Wooting and other keyboards, with low actuation and high sensitivity on the rapid trigger it makes counter strafing hundreds of times easier than a normal keyboard
They should ban aspect ratio stretches putting players at an unfair advantage against their opponent. They should also limit fps to 30 cause allowing more puts other players at an unfair disadvantage due to better hardware increasing reaction times. It’s well established in fighting games and should definitely be added in cs. I wonder when you finally realized the sarcasm behind this entire comment…
So you arguing that keyboard input automation should be allowed? How about mouse input automation like in built spray control? Or a camera that films your screen, analyzes it and then changes the DPI on your mouse depending on how far your crosshair is from an enemys head so you always end up right on the enemys head as long as you move the mouse? Because they're all kinda the same thing...
Personally, I do not think that it should result in a ban. I think it should result in a disconnect and notification to turn the feature off as there would be many people who forget that the feature is on.
I played worst with SOCD even after trying to get used to it. Wooting announced ages ago that snappy tappy was going to be released then razer tried to one up them by releasing what many assume to be cheats going out of their way to leave ethics behind. Wooting didn’t copy anyone, razer copied them. Even after it was released the community got upset so they decided to release SOCD as a business move. These features should be banned even though they are NOT an advantage for everyone, and I don’t see them banning rapid trigger and actuation. The keyboards are just fine, it’s a joke that people only bought it for SOCD but they will not regret the purchase regardless. I’ve had my wooting since I watched you and that optimum guys videos, best purchase I’ve ever made for myself gaming-wise, and I didn’t buy it expecting an advantage at all because that’s not how it works.
Honestly, here in Brazil these new keyboard are costing around 2k or more, that's basically one and a half minimum salary, so I'm kinda happy I don't actually need one anymore
This is a QoL feature that makes keyboards feel more responsive. This should never be banned. This is like banning a steering wheel from racing games because not everyone has one.
it makes the keyboard less functional by not accurately reporting player inputs to the game. if you dont like counterstrafing as a mechanic ask the developers to change the mechanic instead of cheating your way out of it
Whats funny about Valve's countermeasure to it is because of how they did it and also that its too loose. The number of false positives have skyrocketed booting people who just regularly button mash even if they arent doing proper Counter Strafing as well as booting people who are legitimately good at Counter Strafing so its definitely not a perfect solution.
This feels a bit unfair isn't it? it's like the old days when Halo players are being banned for using the proper hardware; nowadays people finally realized that they can play Halo the way it's meant to be: using a keyboard and mouse, not twiddly thumb thingy.

I bought a wooting a year ago. Snap Tap was a fun little adventure, but I wont regret having this kb because of the ban. It was great kb before snap tap and it is still great!
hall effect keyboards will still be op, rapid trigger and adjustable actuation point remove latency from your interactions with keyboard. so yeah, if you bought new keyboard for snap tap/socd, then yeah main reason why you bought it is banned, but it still better then regualar keyboard. but about advantage that socd give you in cs... idk, you still need to understand when/how to counter strafe + if you hold opposite key longer, then you still will move and accuracy will be bad. plus we already have p2w disadvantage in all competitive games. someone will have old pc and someone will have ultra spec pc. and monitors, and better mice, and headphones... plus don't forget that someone can literally have geographical advantage. you can live close to servers and you will have lowest ping possible. for me, i tried socd for a week and today played without it and i didn't have any issues. still no problems to strafe correctly. probably skill issue for those who cry that it is now removed)
I honestly don’t play competitive games, I bought the wooting keyboard for the crazy actuation point customizations, keyboard shortcuts, analog inputs.
*optimum: created a crazy amount of hype for a feature via poor testing methodology, causing the uproar and demand for a feature that otherwise wouldnt have been that big of a deal *valve: sighs like an exhausted father who just got home from work when he has to get up and do a chore "i guess we can deal with this" I say it wad flawed testing due to him adding latency to the keypresses which the Razer didnt care about due to it being *when the keypress happens* but doesnt let the wooting work because it cares about *how far its pressed* and the amount of time where both keys were fully pressed was almost identical to the difference in time between the two keyboards.
I feel like there's some gross misunderstanding, like Optimum's video doesn't even show it being broken in Overwatch. It's just the main game he plays and so most of his b-roll was from that. He even mentions in his videos it's not actually that bad in Overwatch and it's why there's not even any comparison between movement with a Wooting with and without SOCD, because you probably won't even be able to tell the difference. There's only really one particular instance where you can tell the difference, because it SOCD can bug a hero's model.
Banning this feature is so stupid. If you own a 240hz monitor and play against somebody whos playing on 60hz, you also have a big advantage. Money buys "skill" in that case too, whys one allowed and the other one isnt? Its not as if anyone could afford a high refreshrate monitor. Same for better PC parts, headphones etc. Its not cheating, its just a better keyboard and a simple innovation. They didnt ban anti-ghosting when it became a thing, why ban this now? Companys will adapt to it. Banning it just because this replaced something that people learned over years is wrong. People that dont have a keyboard that supports this tech are still able to counter strafe, its just harder to do. It might be game-breaking in other genres and in that case it should be considered to get banned, but thats not the case for CS2 imo
It's really weird how these kb brands make a pretty much cheating software feature and then valve bans it (other companies would most likely ban it too) after only like around a month of it being out? what im trying to say is that i don't think alot of people would be happy to know that they bought a keyboard for that feature just for it to be banned in all games (this includes me but i ordered my 80he back in april prior to socd)
Its not really that over powered in fortnite. At this point they should just ban HE keyboards all together and we all have to use regular hotswap boards lol.
Just yesterday I watched a 1-month old video about a controversy about a veteran player cheating in Osu! using a wooting keyboard. Quite a coincidence! I'm glad for the context I managed to get.
@@HipyoTech wait no when I read that back it sounds super dirty. That's not what I meant. As I was watching your video I was walking downstairs and wasn't watching where I was going so my jaw slammed into the corner
Counterstrafing is a pretty boring skill to have. Nowhere is it explained in the official game, it is basically an exploit, that makes you shoot precise faster after moving, because CS 1.6 was build in the half life engine and they never updated this legacy movement implementation. All modern games have no counterstrafing, look at Valorant or Spectre Divide. They should have updated their movement implementation, instead of dodging the problem like this. At least for me the game should be about teamplay, strategy, movement and of course good aim. It does not need artifical skill checks on top.
also its pretty telling when you said for you a game is about "strategy, shooting, etc" but not "movement mechanics". so many people do not respect movement mechanics in games or see them on the level of aiming
How every key should work: 1: As soon as I start pressing a key, it should register as a press, and as soon as you relase, it registers as a release. That is just how we should expect any keyboard to work. It's just that it was technically not realistic back in the days. (I assume) 2: Only the LAST pressed key should get send. At least if you don't say "when I press all, I expect it to send all". Which is also a valid point of view. I guess a keyboard where the "flaws from the past" get removed, we can expect these 2 behaviours.
Honestly I think it should be normalized, I don't have that keyboard nor do I wanna buy it, but I have no beef with it. All keyboards from now on should implement this feature and make it normal for everyone to have.
4:45 that is exactly it and its also the reason why in CS it only results in kick as of now. Because boy oh boy the false positives on this has been insane, like multiple kicks per game
That's exactly why my new keyboard is just a regular one (Aula F75). I suspected there was going to be an issue with the wooting etc, and since I don't like the sound of any of the HE keyboards that feature it, that was an easy choice to make.
For newbies: Yes, something like “snap tap” or as it is called by other manufacturers is and should be banned in many games No, rapid triggers are not affected And that should be the main reason to buy a keyboard like this Magnetic switches and rapid trigger (select activation point) for faster input No wooting is required and there are many cheaper alternatives. Even a Drunkdeer 60% with an aluminum case and new keycaps (depends on which ones) is usually cheaper or the same price as a wooting.

Valve: We can detect snap tap!
Also Valve: We can’t detect spinning 100% HS scout players!
Their detection will also kick you if you counterstraffe really well without snap tap

And the custom keyboard community is going: $200 is rookie numbers, kid.

@@niodix Typical "It's not true, but if it is, you deserved it" response.
Now your controller has to have it so that SOCD defaults to neutral (pushing left and right together makes it so that they cancel out) which is a solution but also allows for weird shortcuts because of how the game reads inputs
In any case, its interesting how a different conpetitive gaming scene processes the same issue we dealt with awhile ago in the FGC
Should be noted only Capcom so far is strictly enforcing Up+Down=Neutral for Street Fighter 6's CPT events
You'll likely be allowed to use Up Priority (AKA the original Hit Box's default resolution/the other one with Instant Flash Kick) anywhere else unless otherwise specified, in most cases just also make sure L+R=Neutral
"Issue"
should also be noted the neutral socd has a lot more uses specifically in sf6 that are as broken or more than up socd
I have a feeling that some actual professionals will be kicked for automation even though it was purely his skill. Knowing how Valve's "anti-cheat" works.

Yeah as more of a fighting game guy, seeing an SOCD debacle hit the FPS community has been wild, especially the spark being Last Input Priority on the Razer keyboard, welcome back Gafrobox lol
Seeing this kind of ban being enforced at a game anticheat level is kind of insane too
Was it about leverless controllers as a whole or specifically some had SOCD and some didn't? And where did they land on the issue?
Modern fighting games implement SOCD themselves for keyboard players.
IIRC There's a firmware upgrade for the original Hitbox, the new ones have this built in, and the competing companies have all moved to do it that way as well
It is so on-brand for valve to ban a keyboard feature and do literally fuck all about actual cheaters
The thing that appeals to me about the potential of analog keyboards isn't the rapid response, is the potential for gradual input like an analogue trigger on a gamepad. Using it for things like driving in games like GTAV or Cyberpunk 2077. I want the effect of an analog stick on my keyboard.

ngl valve responding to a keyboard feature more than to acc cheaters is crazy and secondly even if u learned that skill the anti cheat still kicks u bc it doesnt seperate between socd and acc counterstrafing

LOL! You are a meatball eh? Best stem wobble too. xd
@@WalkMrJ ?
@@WalkMrJ Name your alternative, because there isn't one
I'm surprised that nobody is talking about how keyboard companies will respond to this, most likely introducing variable delta times between each input to the point that the game engine can no longer safely differentiate between this and a dialed in pro player. This is gonna get ugly and I don't think we've seen the end of this yet.
Exactly.
I expect shit to hit the fan as soon as a pro player gets banned for having reflexes so good that they match the hardware emulation.
Good. I hope SOCD and technology keep developing and leaving incompetent developers seething.
This x100000
"good. i hope aimbot keeps developing and leaving incompetent developers seething"
i love this comment because it so plainly displays how much of a lie the narrative around socd is. people say it should be allowed because "its more responsive" "counterstrafing is a bad mechanic anyway" but you just admit you want an unfair advantage lol
you have discovered the concept of closet cheating. nothing that can be done really. all sorts of games are facing the same issue with arduino aimbots and dma wallhacks
That's wild when people are saying you "need" a feature to compete, but where was this logic when any other hardware/software advancements were made?
@@UnluckyOctopus that's the million dollar question
It is a technology that everyone can use for less money than almost anything else in your setup.
some people use things like this for accessibility and to avoid carpal tunnel. going to be unfortunate if this spreads to other games.

@@nah0725 as if the game already doesnt feel like shit , i think valve wants to make it as terrible as they can
Apex player here.
I should reface a little bit, in osu and rhythm games, they should not have an inbuilt timer to how fast you can press keys and thus they should ban these kinds of features (which they have and have stood by for many many years)
Yeah, I said this in another comment, but they should have fixed the game instead of banning a feature. Like they did with bhopping.

It's a matter of time, when these keyboard inputs become the standard
There is no reason to pretend as if it's working in "wrong" or "cheating" way
It just works as it was supposed to work from day 1, but wasn't due to limitations
I personally hope that wooting keeps the feature as I like using it for rocket league.
In theory a keyboard manufacturer can mechanically connect the A and D keys via a rod so that both keys cannot simultaneously send input. At this point it would not be software automation but a physical limitation of the keyboard. Would this still be considered "cheating"? I think the better option is for games to introduce a momentum mechanic if they don't want players to have the ability to instantly change the direction of their movement.
hardware exists to show the game what the player is doing physically. i'd argue hardware that is less functional and doesnt accurately reflect player inputs is in general grounds for a ban. obviously this would have to be applied on a case by case basis though. a shitty keyboard that sometimes doesnt register a key would be different to a pro player bringing a keyboard with hardware level macros on it
Yes it would be cheating, and Path of Exile already has set this precedent.
hey hipyo tech, just wanted to say thanks for helping me find good keyboards. i bought a yunzii that i saw on one of your shorts and i absolutely love it !!
the hate-train was insane, this feature may give you a slight boost in performance ceiling, even pros were doing worse with this, the reason why is that they are not used to it, people talked about this as if you were going to be automatically better by using this, this is just wrong lol
“This keyboard revolutionizes gaming and provides more accurate inputs”
Value: “we dont like revolutions… or accuracy” *bans*
Games spent money on a new keyboard with the intent of utilizing 1 specific feature to help make them better and paid $$$ for that one feature compared to other boards. Now Value just says nope and it means a bunch of gamers who thought it was just a keyboard designed to be more accurate with inputs are out big $ because they cant use the keyboard for its original marketed purpose. Not sure if Value W or L tbh.
Rapid Trigger is still a massive help
[Laughs in Microsoft word]
Microsoft word, my favourite keyboard.
Sadly valve still kicks you for regular movement in so cases and in the process removed multi movement binds such as jump throws
…It's not cheating because developers of one game with a long-standing gameplay loop that never considered SOCD being a thing decided to ban SOCD; there are MANY more competitive games that have welcomed and embraced SOCD for years that likely won't take the same stance now that keyboards have parity with controllers.
Point stands for legacy games that decide to follow suit (likely FPSes in which the devs did not account much/well rapid lateral movement in a SOCD manner)
my turning point to subscribe is when you put your main CS account on a test! your are fire bro!!!
6:08 eh, anyone who bought hardware thinking that it was cheating has waived the right to get mad when it becomes bannable
They could just turn it off
How did it not work? Mine works perfectly fine? Did u not go to beta wootility and enable socd? It’s not in normal wootility
@MazevG I didn't say it didn't work. I said, it didn't work in all games.
@@guesswork which games did it not work for?
@@guesswork Turn it off.... There is no way for a game to turn it off. They could choose to detect when it happens and then ignore the input or kick players like in CS2. They can't disable a feature that is literally in your keyboard without doing some seriously sketchy stuff that wouldn't work in practice.
It works in all games lol. It's literally just regular keyboard input
To rephrase, this only removes latency from hardware, enabling you to not need to account for it in your movement, which is why I call it a skill based around the limitations of peripheral input rather than game mechanics.
which is why calling it cheating is so mind boggling, pure absurdity it's only letting reaction time of the player shine more is the irony.
Very true
So true
This isn’t quite accurate. These keyboards are simulating a pressed key being unpressed. If you press D while still holding A, it will immediately communicate to the game that A is unpressed. That’s not latency.
In that case aim bot is also not cheating
I have the Wooting 60HE and still love it. Feels great and you can still adjust the actuation per key. I’m more irritated that CS doesn’t allow in game binds now
would 100% love them to not ban this and make it so every keyboard can have it without like it being brand specific
That was already a thing in cs2, there was a way to use null binds to make it just like that
other games will do this, but cs will always have neutral socd because counterstrafing is so ingrained in the gameplay. sometimes "bad game design" is desireable for an esport that is trying to replicate the physical sensation of real life sports
Crazy to see hipyo make a video where he's not unapologetically shilling garbage keyboards
Same feature, different outcomes.
i got a whooting and its not even here yet and they have already patched it 🤣😭😂
Same, I bought it recently and still waiting in the mail for it 😭
Bwahaha me too. Oh well I still love building custom boards. So it’ll be nice to have I guess.
Same, but tbh in my testing with a returned, RGB-defective Razer Huntsman v3 I already massively benefitted from the still-allowed Rapid Trigger... So my 250 for Wooting won't go to waste.
lol looks like we all have something in common
Wooting still has a pretty big advantage over other keyboard with being able to change the actuation point and rapid trigger, if anything now there’s a bigger gap between Wooting and other keyboards, with low actuation and high sensitivity on the rapid trigger it makes counter strafing hundreds of times easier than a normal keyboard
I ate my dinner to this video, and can confirm this video is great(just subbed)
They should ban aspect ratio stretches putting players at an unfair advantage against their opponent. They should also limit fps to 30 cause allowing more puts other players at an unfair disadvantage due to better hardware increasing reaction times. It’s well established in fighting games and should definitely be added in cs.
I wonder when you finally realized the sarcasm behind this entire comment…
They should also lock the FOV and crosshair customisation.
SOCD never really was a selling feature for wooting, they just implemented it cause razer forced them to. They are fine.

Pretty ballsy for risking your 1.3k hrs on cs acc just for testing. Subbed.
Yeah, exactly my point, they can fix bhopping, but counterstrafing is too much ig.
also its pretty telling when you said for you a game is about "strategy, shooting, etc" but not "movement mechanics". so many people do not respect movement mechanics in games or see them on the level of aiming
How every key should work:
1: As soon as I start pressing a key, it should register as a press, and as soon as you relase, it registers as a release.
That is just how we should expect any keyboard to work. It's just that it was technically not realistic back in the days. (I assume)
2: Only the LAST pressed key should get send.
So valve wants us to spend money on a cheat instead of buying a new keyboard
Whats wrong with them
That's exactly why my new keyboard is just a regular one (Aula F75). I suspected there was going to be an issue with the wooting etc, and since I don't like the sound of any of the HE keyboards that feature it, that was an easy choice to make.

For newbies:
Yes, something like “snap tap” or as it is called by other manufacturers is and should be banned in many games
No, rapid triggers are not affected
And that should be the main reason to buy a keyboard like this
Magnetic switches and rapid trigger (select activation point) for faster input
No wooting is required and there are many cheaper alternatives.
Even a Drunkdeer 60% with an aluminum case and new keycaps (depends on which ones) is usually cheaper or the same price as a wooting.
