I heard that MJ Lenderman's shows are filled with tons of middle-aged guys.I'm a middle-aged guy, and I want to follow MJ around the country. I'm a Lenderhead.
Coulda sworn I had a mix tape from 1994 that had this song on it with some Liz Phair, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr. Nope, this gem is from 2024. Thank you, my good sir.
Heard this on the Radio, thought 💯 it was a 90s jam since Matt Pinfield is one of the DJs and they play a lot of 120 Minutes shit. Just finding out it's only a couple months old????
@@themarinelayermusic6469 Nah, this song has a lot in common with Better Than Ezra's "Good," Our Lady Peace's "Clumsy," and others of that 1995-1997 time period.
I just realized Jason Molina is totally who I think of when I hear MJ sing. But writes songs totally different from Songs Ohia. Great to see this guy on the rise!
I love both but this didn’t click for me until I saw them live a few years ago and it blew my mind. Also the venue started playing songs ohia after his set so I knew someone else heard it too.
I came here to post this if someone hadn’t already. This is the first song I’ve heard by this guy. I thought Molina on the first note he sang. Really digging these tunes!
Jason sang in a higher register, midwest accent. mj reminds me of "Pizza Deliverance"-era DBTs in this one, Johnny Corndawg in others. Wednesday's country songs are my favorites. But really I like them all. Hi from Oklahoma. I'm wearing a Funk's hybrid seedcorn cap and oxblood doc martens, a "smol tiddie goth wife" tshirt, tighty whities and a fanny pack full of xanax and bottle rockets. Today is gonna be nuts.
Totally. The main bassline riff sounds just like a GBV song so much that I'm having deja vu or something. Even the guitar solo at the end sounds like Toby Sprout. Vocals are obviously more like Pavement
Lenderman is probably the young artist that I’m most excited about. Great albums so far and that live record was phenomenal. Really looking forward to this new release.
Just heard this for the first time on The Spectrum and pulled over and snapped a screenshot with my phone so I wouldn’t forget who and what I was hearing. Something fresh and original. Love. ❤❤❤
MJ Lenderman is one of the best new songwriters of the last few years and like, I imagine, the rest of his listeners, I feel incredibly grateful and inspired to be watching his rise to stardom
He seems like a bit too quirky of a guy - in a good way - to become HUGE huge, but I think he could definitely wind up in the Sturgill Simpson/Jason Isbell tier
All the hallmarks..Except autotune, beat detective and millenial whoops. He'll have a decent underground career, but real music will never return to the mainstream in this broken world.
@@themarinelayermusic6469 music is cyclical, trends don't last forever, and before long EDM/electronica/rap will be the music parents are listening to, and kids will want something different, they always do
Further evidence that there's hope for (and in) Millennials. This is soooo good to hear. I hear echoes of Neil Young, Pavement, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Dinosaur Jr but it's new and creative and innovative and lovely all round. Thanks MJ!
everyone involved in this deserves some serious love. mj wrote a crazy good song and is snapping. alex got this sounding so damn crispy. karly absolutely shines. her finishing the song leaves you wanting so much more. excited for the album. keep doing y'alls thing!
Crazy how every Indie artist I love gets comped to Dino Jr. I finally bit the bullet and watched a doc and realized the amazing-ness of that band. Love you MJ.
Middle aged guys? I am 20yo dude from Central Europe. I don't know what it is, but Lenderman became my favourite artist; everything that is released is a total banger.
Not sure why but this has become one of my favorite music videos. The lighting is great, there is humor, just a bunch of randomness. It feels very 90s.
discovered this dude and this song more specifically during a really bad time in my life. my first ever girlfriend who i believed was the love of my life asked me for a break. we were always happy, but i was always suffocating. i do feel like shes leaving me, letting me go as slowly as possible. shes even from vegas, like the song mentions. just so painful but hey, its a fantastic song. thanks!
Meet the new king of alt-country. MJ Lenderman's Manning Fireworks is a gritty, guitar-driven masterpiece that’s equal parts Neil Young and Warren Zevon. With his signature blend of humor and heart, Lenderman delivers a record that’s both deeply personal and universally relatable. From the opening track to the final note, this album is a rollercoaster ride of emotions
I work in a music venue doing box office when the bartender played this song on the bar Spotify. Id like to think I'm in this video, outside the stage doors selling tickets for this gig. Now we just gotta book MJ irl
I fell asleep with the radio on, the climbing bass riff between the verses reeled me in out of my slumber and sent me scrambling in the dark for my phone to Shazam this tune. And so here we are.
Another great one, Jake. So, so glad you're getting all the love you're getting now; you're my favorite artist of the past few years and it's not close.

Love it!!! I’m right there with you 😅
i was so surprised at how old the crowd was when i saw him in dc
hell yeah brother
is this why the older guy is jamming with his air guitar while everyone else is giving thumbs down? 😂

Fontaines DC are one of my favorite bands from high school. I graduated in 1989.
It does kinda have that "Feel the Pain" sound from Dinosaur Jr.
That would have been 2002, and it would have been sung and written by Ben Kweller.
When I heard it on the radio it reminded me of Dinosaur Jr. too
Ah, a new Pavement album. Finally.
lol
The Magnolia Electric Co
Haha absolutely 💯
Lol that was my first thought. Love the sound
funny- i heard this and thought- a new Sun Volt album. Finally.
haha
Pavement + Courtney Barnett + Gin Blossoms. What a cool blend of influences and genres. Love this.
Son Volt
Alt country!!!
Uncle Tupelo

Definitely the golden age of alt country sound. Superb.
Its 1994 again! THANK GOD. Nice work everyone. Love it.
That's exactly the year I was thinking

This song slaps. This album is going to slap. Rock n roll is here to slay
I think Rock n Roll is leaving you TBH
Good jam.
They don't make like this much anymore.
Blessings to the commenters and Lenderman!
