I got this video recommended for whatever reason and I don’t understand the context of some of these comments. Can you explain what you mean and who this elderly teenager is? Or possibly who the Jesse Eisenberg looking fella who walked briefly across the screen?
It's my favourite part of this track, man. Glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed that. Also the whole piece, especially this outro part, is built very smartly using harmony shifts. I adore the dark vibe and the tension of the F chord, when Greep's lyrical character continues to ask the girl about her cost in last verse, and when asking her to "...shoot a smug look at the other girls to make them jealous I chose you" after seemingly brighter vibes of the A and Ab chords. This song is just so well done man.
i read a review of this album that claimed there was no emotional depth to these songs because of the narrators tongue-in-cheek and satirical tone, and every time i hear that line it gives me chills and makes me think just how wrong that guy was.
the bowling gag of it always being a strike even though it's obviously not is actually genius. its a metaphor for the whole song, someone who puts on like they're perfect, but they're actually an extremely insecure person who is paying a hooker to make them look super suave. no matter how awkward he is, or how bad he bowls, the woman he's paying will always laugh, and the ball will always be a strike. and towards the end of the first half of the song, it visibly breaks down and the editing gets worse, just like greep not smiling, dancing or even singing as much during it. when you think about it like that, the second half almost feels like an admission of guilt the character was pressured into telling, or maybe the character doesn't even get any joy out of the whole charade anymore after so many times of convincing the people in whatever bar he's in at any given time during the 'hookup' that he's cool. even the last ball bowled is also the only one that isn't a strike, leaving two pins
the latter half of the song is just the man detailing everything that happens in the first half… revealing that every single part of it is an act. that’s beautiful writing
I love the bowling ball gag where it's a strike every time, it's like the basketball shot that's an obvious miss, but it cuts to another shot and it goes in anyway
I’m obsessed with how electric the first few seconds of this song is it just jerks you in and keeps you seated with its funk the rest of the way through
I am 62 years old and finally we are coming back to some great sounds , this is insane, some steely dan , frank Zappa. even jaco pastorius would have approved, some salsa, some Brazilian, some jazz, some rock all in one song. I have been listening to it for 2 days now Non stop. My brain has been shaken to its core. Thanks god for music, life sucks sometime but music Can bring you back.Yes!! I am so Happy, awesome sounds!!! Thank you
The verse after the first chorus where he incessantly repeats how well known around the place he is feels like he's *desperate* to convince the listener he's this suave and charming guy. It's great foreshadowing for the second half of the song where everything is stripped back to reveal it's all fake.
Thinking about it in terms of the second half of the song too, it kinda sounds like while he’s on this fake hookup the girl he hired maybe isn’t really sucking up to him as much as he would like, or that he isn’t getting as much of a kick out of it as he used to, so he feels this need to overblow how suave he is as a means to feed the delusion
As long as they’ve got leather soles, they’re perfectly appropriate. It’s the soles that matter. The only reason bowling shoes look like they do is so that people don’t walk off wearing them.
"Okay so I'm gonna bowl a strike, pick up a cocktail, and dance at the camera" "Sounds good Geordie, and what about the rest of the video?" "What do you mean the rest of the video?"

Go to a bowling alley when a league is playing and you'll see that's how good bowlers play. They spin the ball and it curves to hit the pins at a better angle than if it just hits from the front
@@MANmiks Understood, but that's not what Geordie did lol. He even shrugged his shoulders after he threw it like he knew he messed up but was like "oh well." Also, if you go frame by frame (you can do this on desktop with the comma and period buttons) when he steps to the side to reveal the ball at the end, you can literally see the ball teleport magically from the right to the middle. You can also see the ball teleport again at 1:26 if you watch carefully. All edited.
I don't think any of it is "obvious" if you have to go frame by frame, they all looked plenty believable to me, even slowed down. Whether or not it's edited is beside the point. It's filmed. There are takes. Even if he actually _did_ get strikes (and he probably did, it's not that uncommon), he obviously isn't that amazing of a bowler. His character in the song and the video are both fake.
something about the half / half form makes this incredibly repeatable. By the time you have finished the second half, the first half feels fresh again. It's a never ending loop. I can't wait for spotify to tell me how many thousand times I've heard it.
The more I listen to this, the sadder it seems to me. But maybe sad is not so accurate a word. Especially towards the end, the guy’s pomposity shatters itself and remains fantastic. Anyway, If The New Sound album’s intention is about desperation, i am already convinced by this one song.
I literally just randomly discovered this song by jumping (FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME AND JUST ON A WHIM) onto fantano's stream coincidentally just when he was listening to this. I remember seeing an interview with him during lockdown and one of the questions was ‘what’s the first thing you’re gonna do when lockdown ends?’ And he said ‘I’m going bowling!’
I'd never even heard of black midi before stumbling on this track. First reaction: "What the hell is this music? Who is this ridiculous man?" Next day: "I wanna hear that thing again. It's really funny, but also incredibly sad. And the music reminds me of Steely Dan but with anxious jittery guitar work. I think I might like it..." @@o__o1544that’s actually an insanely good detail lmao
GEORDIE GREEB
"Sophisticated Tart" is biblical
song of the year
ya
A part of me is not surprised at all that his first music video as a solo artist is just a massive movie reference
for what movie
Buffalo '66 I guess, maybe others that I didnt see @@for_nothing_important

@@Xaviertimme4569 I was actually thinking the tap dancing scene from Buffalo 66 but I'm rewatching it now and there's less of a similarity than I initially thought.
5:11 so good bruh
at the same time it's the most pathetic lyric in the song, insane skill level there
i like how at 1:00 he throws an obvious gutter ball but when he moves away its a strike, hes a real mischevious greeper
it just naturally curved like that
Go to a bowling alley when a league is playing and you'll see that's how good bowlers play. They spin the ball and it curves to hit the pins at a better angle than if it just hits from the front
pay attention to the ball the whole time
@@MANmiks Understood, but that's not what Geordie did lol.
This is the exact music that plays in my head after a few pints at the pub
2:03 the background singers doing god's work
Barmaids killing it.
Not sure what he’s doing here, he’s supposed to be giving a business masterclass.
something about the half / half form makes this incredibly repeatable. By the time you have finished the second half, the first half feels fresh again. It's a never ending loop. I can't wait for spotify to tell me how many thousand times I've heard it.
3:32 that stereo bass is unreal
Holy shit the Geordie Dan record is going to go so hard
Like steely Dan? I’ve never heard it in black midi but I was like damn this sounds like steely Dan/black midi at moments
I've watched this video an unholy amount of times.
I listened to this once, and hated it. Listened to it a second time, loved it. what the hell is going on!
Same here lol 😂
ive listened to this 3 times and its fucking awful omg its ridiculously bad

cant wait to reference this music video in every bowling alley i go to from now on
My lord. Just found this. I think it's something special.
I've listening this song a lot of times and I still can't believe how good the last 2 minutes are.
The more I listen to this, the sadder it seems to me. But maybe sad is not so accurate a word. Especially towards the end, the guy’s pomposity shatters itself and remains fantastic. Anyway, If The New Sound album’s intention is about desperation, i am already convinced by this one song.
Holy shit this is great
You know that feeling when you're listening to your song of the year for the first time? This feels like that.
my greep is geordied
This is perfection. You have NAILED the image and aesthetic of the character. I love it
This shit is so good, I come back every two days or so
the same
this hits like episode 8 of twin peaks the return
wTF!
lol
gotta light?
@@TheBadBuffalogot a light?
The chord changes towards the end were magical!!!
This little guy can dance
This album is gonna be such a fever dream and I'm so ready for it
I literally just randomly discovered this song by jumping (FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME AND JUST ON A WHIM) onto fantano's stream coincidentally just when he was listening to this.
I fucking love this song. It's so much fun. And the writing as well. It's always nice to hear criticism towards manosphere guys from a man.
I'm so excited for the album and I'll definitely check out your discography.
Greetings from germany, love your stuff
Check out his band (which just split, on "indefinite hiatus) black midi, they've become a relatively popular experimental rock / progressive rock band, charted pretty high in the UK
Though their sound is definitely NOT for the faint of heart lol
Those huge ass chords towards the end.... JEEZUS
“We just came up with this one this morning… it’s all about the hardships of Vegas”
#otb #tbe #the #new #sound
This song is the best case scenario in the direction for Geordie's solo project for sure. Can't stop listening!
never really listened to black midi but i can't stop listening to this song, i'm addicted to it
tbh you should their music is exciting
i was the same way about 2 days ago but after listening to all of hellfire i get why people are mad about them breaking up now
update: now i cant stop listening to sugar/tsu and eat men eat. i get it now.
neither songs hold a candle to ded sheeran though
dancing to this!! awesome geordie
STEELY DAN IS BACK BABY
I remember seeing an interview with him during lockdown and one of the questions was ‘what’s the first thing you’re gonna do when lockdown ends?’ And he said ‘I’m going bowling!’
The lyrics are fucking hilarious what a legend
I'd never even heard of black midi before stumbling on this track.
First reaction: "What the hell is this music? Who is this ridiculous man?"
Next day: "I wanna hear that thing again. It's really funny, but also incredibly sad. And the music reminds me of Steely Dan but with anxious jittery guitar work. I think I might like it..."
A week later, after listening to it 500 times: "IS THE RECORD OUT YET?? I NEED MORE!!"
This song is a goddamn masterpiece.
I agree, it reminded me of steely dan at first too, something about the vocal mixing? Steely dan but manic fs
@@magster9338 lyrics are SD-like, too. Except instead of chronicling 1970s junkies and criminals he’s writing about 2020s manosphere creeps.
have you listened to the record yet? it's out now
@@idioticegg3142 Yes, and I love it! Totally a Greep and Black Midi fan at this point. I think "Holy, Holy" is still my favorite, but "Blues," "As If Waltz," and "The New Sound" are sublime, too.
