And a wristwatcchhhhh. Man he's so good at punching phrases with interesting melody choices. I haven't been this excited about an album in a LONG time.
mj and crew have tapped into that magical 90s sound ala dino jr, pavement, beck, and son volt. dig those crunchy guitar tones and that slacker vocal delivery
For sure. Jason Molina is another pretty obvious touchstone. Cowpunk singer songwriter Lucero as well. Would kill to hear MJ do a duet with Frances Quinlan from Hop Along.
People referencing some quality 90s bands when complimenting MJ and co. I'm gonna add Centro-matic (Patience for the Ride) to the list. Good stuff. Bringing back a sound we've been missing.
Dinosaur Jr. meets DBT? I probably ought not draw comparisons, but I mean it as a compliment. A tune I like on the first listen makes me happy. Thanks.
I only want to add that Dinosaur Jr has so many great songs and DBTs only a few. It's easier to the miss the strong Neil Young influence because of such different vocals. I worry about the country backlash from those who love DBT but I'm sticking with my guns as I only like 3 songs by them.
"Dumb" is a song by the American rock band, Nirvana, written by vocalist and guitarist, Kurt Cobain. It is the sixth song on the band's third and final studio album, In Utero, released in September 1993. In a 1993 Melody Maker interview, Cobain explained that the song was about people who lacked the intelligence to be unhappy, which he admitted he was "at times" envious of.[3]
Big album for people who feel out of place at extended family gatherings
so big album for everyone?
These days i would take over the family gatherings underground instead…
This is what country sounds like to people who like country. There's real bite in this, bite in the lyrics, bite in the guitar, bite in the rhythm.
This feels like if Stephen Malkmus and J Mascis started a country band, and honestly, I’m here for it.
Neil Young vibes as well.
Kind of a stretch. More like Songs Ohia
@@ST-xg3gy Bruh, your comment just reminded me of this-he actually played with Dino Jr! My ear for influences is unmatched.
Exactly.
Spot on. My first thought after hearing him was Stephen Malkmus.
And a wristwatcchhhhh. Man he's so good at punching phrases with interesting melody choices. I haven't been this excited about an album in a LONG time.
the phrasing and melody of the chorus is so good
HIMBO DOME🗣️🗣️🔊🔊🔥🔥
That Quiet Riot nod in the first line 🤌🏼
Magnolia Electric Co.-Dark Don't Hide It vibes. Been stoked to hear the studio version of this song. Great!
I hear this
The way he elongates words like "I'd still taaaaake your amazing grace" gave me Jason Molina vibes too. Good call.
I thought the same thing!!
sounds very much like red house painters
The debate is over. MJ > Lebron
Much better musician
This comment will not be topped.
Underrated comment lol so good
2:49 the goosebumps I've felt all song just erupted into blisters of nostalgia joy and passion. I am saved.

nobody still talks the way MJ writes lyrics. he's so good because he's so uniquely himself.

Agreed. Look into Richmond Fontaine is you aren't familiar. Very similar vocal delivery and phrasing as willy vlautin who fronted that band.
For sure. Jason Molina is another pretty obvious touchstone. Cowpunk singer songwriter Lucero as well.

I hear one of my favorites from the late 90s/2000s... Centro-Matic. Especially Patience for the Ride.
2 days to go, can’t wait!
Album is incredible, instant classic
Buffalo Springfield!!! Love it!
Buffalo Springfield Again!
Please explain!🤔
Person in the middle of the thumbnail doing a killer impression of the bassist from Elastica in the "Stutter" video.

My new favourite
Sometimes simplicity gets it done.

Certainly what I think. I actually found out about this album through Patterson Hood posting about it on his social media.
I did too 🙄 but went Karl Wallinger/World Party . 😔
@@sarabevan3468 RIP Karl. I can see WP somewhat instrumentally, and both use fiddles.
I didnt know i was a Lenderhead, but i am!

Sparklehorse Pavement Neil Young mash up. What's not to like.
I've got a Ferrari, and a wristwatch more than you can afford
Blanda Fort
Son Volt was here..
This reminds me of Kurt Vile...good sound though.
this music makes me feel proud to be autistic
This song gives drive by truckers vibes
this is a song i couldve imagined aaron maine writing before he went art pop
Cum On Feel the Noize!?! Like Slade x Neil Young. Great stuff 👏👏
Not hearing Slade at all in this, mate
Inspired by Nick Swardson
Garcia Betty Young Ruth Lopez Christopher
Stephania Summit
I think they sound like if the hardcore band Norma Jean replaced their frontman with Neil Young and started playing post-country

I knew that progression sounded familiar
You’re all wrong this is Weezer
VOTE ALL RED & TRUMP ❤
I don't get the hype. Isnt this like any indie singer from the 90s?
We liked it then and there hasn’t been much as good as this since.
It’s ok but not wonderful. It’s pizza. Meh
All modern music takes from what came before. I love this stuff then and now.
Woof, woof! Yes, more, please!
Wow
