We started zero contact in August after we broke up, letting go of one of the most beautiful four years of our lives. We had good closure, but things happened, as (un)expected. Today she emailed me back. During all these months the song that most fitted this love was this one. Misery made me another marked man. Each new day I get another year older. I don't know how mature we will look the next time we see each other after our breakup. I don't know what will happen. But she was my favorite for a long time. And my favorite in my 33 years of life. First of all: no expectations and no wishful thinking. Clarity and clear communication will build a wonder, they are the foundation of a relationship.
For our favorites in our lives: give it your all, it's worth it.

    • @burieddagger8064
      @burieddagger8064 6 месяцев назад +1

Yeah there's strands of the Smiths, the Cure, even really early MBV and other late 80s jangle pop, stone roses, etc. They are continuing to tap the late 80s/90s UK/Irish alternative vein they struck with Jackie Down the Line. It's so good, fresh but nostalgic, pulling clear influence but distinctly original.

    • @compucorder64
      @compucorder64 6 месяцев назад +3

@@burieddagger8064 The Cure definitely, though maybe a little bit more of the Smiths and a bit less of The Cure. I could hear the MBV type influence slightly, maybe in the backing vocals and vocal melody, and layering. But it's not obvious. I couldn't put my finger on a specific band, but late 80s jangle pop is a good description, and I know what you mean with Stone Roses. But maybe leaning a little into early 90s indie. Maybe even that wistful happy/sad nostaglia of Smashing Pumkpkins, Sonic Youth or the sunnier tracks of Dinosaur Jr. Maybe a touch of Lemonheads, or the mood of tracks like Ash - Shining Light. idk, it's hard to pin. Which is good.

This song reminds me of my home Aotearoa New Zealand. Has a bit of a Flying Nun / Dunedin sound feel to it.. or maybe it's just the nostalgic feel that makes it feel like home to me. Either way, I don't often feel that way when I listen to bands from overseas. What a great song to end the album with a moment of levity.

This video makes me so nostalgic, damn
I'm also Irish and grew up around the same time as the lads, so the furniture, the landscape, everything makes me want to go home and track down the old videos my dad made of us growing up
Although part of me knows it would just make me sad knowing how many people in the videos are no longer with us, even my dad has passed since
Either way a great song and a moving video to go with it!

    Lyrics:
Did you know I could claim the dreamer from the dream?
Make you feel everything you've never even seen
    Yeah it's been a long, a long, a long, a long, a long-long
You were my favourite for a long time
    Station fires and faces rearranged
You will see beauty give away to something strange
    Yeah it's been a long, a long, a long, a long, a long-long
You were my favourite for a long time
Well, look who's just the newest clown
    Thirty-five hours coming down
And the sun shines on new pavement
And you don't even feel it
It's a cry far from dead radios
And days spent playing football indoors
When they came to town with Thatcher
They never even wanted to know ya
Did you know, I can split the sunshine to the day?
Yeah, stick your heart with everything you say
Yeah, soon it'll be gone, be gone, be gone, be gone, be gone
You were my favourite for a long time
You were my favourite for a long time
    (Favourite for a long time
    Favourite for a long time
    Favourite for a long time)
Did you know, sixties on the turn are often strange?
Yeah now, every time you blink you feel a change
    And it's been a long, a long, a long, a long, long-long
You were my favourite for a while
Ah, it makes sense when you understand
The misery made me another man's man
And I'm always looking over my shoulder
And each new day I get another year older
Shoulder bound to the frame of a door?
Chewed into shape like a stone on the shore
But if there was lightning in me
You know who it was for
Did you know, I could claim the dreamer from the dream?
Make you feel everything you've never even seen
    It's been a long, a long, a long, a long, long-long
You were my favourite for a long time
You were my favourite for a long time
You were my favourite for a long time
You were my favourite for a long time
