Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 6 Breakdown THE END!!

- Obi-Wan tries to speak to Qui-Gon one last time as he observes his lightsaber. Saying it’s me or him and one of us needs to die. This is quite a line as Obi-Wan doesn’t normally live with such absolutes, but he knows that Vader wants to kill him and if he doesn’t succeed, then he’ll fail yoda, luke and everyone of the jedi who counted on him before. Obi-Wan heads to the planet nearby, as Vader falls for the bait, and orders the ship to follow Kenobi, as he takes his lambda t4a imperial shuttle down to meet Obi-Wan. The Grand Inquisitor disagrees with this move.
Maybe Quinlan Voss arrives in season 2.
Reva arrives at the Lars homestead.
Vader arrives on the planet, and he faces his former Master, obi-wan kenobi.
Have you come to destroy me, obi-wan?
I will do what I must, says obi-wan, the same line he says to Anakin on Mustafar, as he gets into his Kenobi clone wars stance, the same stance he tried to fight maul in on tatooine a few years later, until he changed his stance to the qui-gon jinn one.
So with this stance, it means Kenobi is pretty much as powerful as he was in revenge of the sith, like when he fought Grievous.
Then you will die, replies Vader, just like when he fought Ahsoka, as he charges kenobi, and we get them fighting with intense aggression and speed against one another. Keep in mind, this is Vader’s body, he’s immobile and this is really pushing his bad outdated cybernetics to the absolute limit as sidious gave him the literal worst mechanics in order to subdue him and punish him for losing to obi-wan kenobi on mustafar. In the old legends books, Vader was so immobile he couldn’t even raise his hands over his head, so all this is a stretch for him. In the brotherhood novel, it explains Anakin’s new robotic hand lags behind his organic one, so i can only imagine how Vader feels here. they get back to back like in their training flashback on coruscant. A lot of their fights are still mimicking their training as anakin and obi-wan in the good old days. It’s a nice connection.
Kenobi and Vader go at it, shredding rocks with their sabers, throwing boulders at each other with the force. As Kenobi drops a massive stone on Vader, who only shows him up in the force. It seems whatever vader lacks physically, he makes up for in the force. He performs a hulk smash with the force, breaking the floor as he gets the high ground on Kenobi, throwing boulder after boulder upon him, trapping Kenobi.
Obi-Wan has a hard time as he’s collapsing under the pressure of the boulders, when he hears voices of anakin from their duel on mustafar, from their training on coruscant, and from Vader now, as he crumbles in defeat until he remembers Leia and his purpose in life now, to protect the children, to live for a new hope. He’s the last line of defence for them. This gives him enough power and belief in himself to fight for something important, as he sends the boulders sky high, and breaks out of there. Now i know people in th watch party had an issue with this part as he sneaks up on Vader, I think it’s because he’s using the force to stealthily move up to him, but of course Vader feels it. Jedi can suppress their footsteps and use the force to sneak around. Kenobi is using some of Anakin’s old moves, behind the hand twirl and spins, he’s using form 3 soresu, but he’s one the offence, which isn’t all that much like obi-wan, he’s much more of a defensive fighter, which is what form 3 soresu is.
We see Anakin, Hayden’s face, as Obi-Wan drops his guard and is brought to tears as he cries for Anakin.
Vader says, anakin is gone, i am what remains. This is all so sad. Obi-Wan tells him i’m sorry Anakin, for all of it. Now this is where i feel the directing was really well done, as we see the reflection of blue and red on anakin’s face, showing his inner conflict between the light and dark, between anakin skywalker and darth vader.
Vader tells him he is not his failure, that obi-wan didn’t kill anakin skywalker, he, himself, did. And I will destroy you, As he looks sadistic and psychotic. You can tell Vader is consumed by hatred, Anakin is still there, but he’s twisted and turned by the dark side.
Obi-Wan says in pity, then my friend is truly dead, as he walks away. He knows Vader is no longer a threat, and just feels sorry for him. There’s no need to kill someone he’s beaten now twice. It’s inconsistent with what kenobi tells luke to do later, to kill his father, but maybe Vader goes super psycho powerful over the next 10 years, who knows what the story of Vader will be going forwards. The scream Vader does for Obi-Wan tops the maul kenobi scream for me. It’s haunting and so full of rage and pain at being beaten and pitied.

Beautiful way to end the show.
Thank you to all of you who showed up to all the watch parties and keep adding to this beautiful community.
What did you think of this episode? Of this show as a whole? Will we get season 2? Do you want that?
See you in the next video, and may the force be with you, always.
I do and don't want season 2
How did qui gon appear when he didn’t finish his training? He could only appear in voice?
Nah definitely not if you put the Vader nostalgia aside this show was complete dog shit
Don't really care for a season 2 don't really care about the Reva story and Rebels and a New Hope are already fine
This show is dog poop, but I mean! The end has me swelling up
I love how vader says I killed anakin then 10 years later Obi-Wan tells Luke that vader killed his father. Perfection
I wanted to like this post twice, it just feels so damn right! :D
@@dennis_chemist8120 thank you
haha! i didnt catch that! thats awesome :D
It is like poetry, it rhymes
What he said was true; From a certain point of view!
Anyone who called Hayden Christensen a bad actor can shut it after this finale. That conversation between Vader/Anakin and Obi-Wan was one of the greatest performances that I’ve ever seen, and one of the greatest Star Wars scenes ever. Hayden and Ewan were phenomenal in this finale! I can’t wait to see Hayden again in Ahsoka!
We only see one of his eyes and we can feel exactly what both Vader and Obi Wan feel. Great moment.
That "Then you will die" reminded me of Rebels.
@@Bearical it’s like poetry it rhymes
Hayden was never a bad actor, thats what people dont get. He acted that way because Lucas TOLD HIM TO lol.
Hayden was never the problem. He just got handed a bad script for most of his scenes; especially the romantic parts between him and Padme.
“I am what remains” is possibly the most painful line in this. It implies that the conflict was always there, and Vader was always present in some way.
& anytime a glimpse of anakin tries to return , vader like “ stay dead”
I agree. There are moments in Anakin's life where he will engage (race scene) with anger, as does Leia. Demonstrating that good-evil is in all. The force merely amplifies and/or focuses said emotions.
@@phantomsith5168 That's because the "Vader side" knows that he had to use the rage in order to stay alive. It's what's keeping him in balance. If he lets the light overcome him, Sidious knows that he will be lost and will just kill him off.
But the conflict was always there, and still is all the way through Return of the Jedi. It's this conflict within that ends up saving Anakin and allows him to save his own son from the Emperor.
nah..it's just horrible scrips
Obi Wan apologizing to Anakin had me in tears ... that was big... owning up to his own mistakes, even though Anakin brought so much of it on himself. And Anakin almost ... absolving Obi Wan? That was so unexpected. It sounded like a cry for help, and at the same time he was boasting that he killed his own self to become Vader.
Well also palatine even said “ perhaps your feelings for your old master has left you weakened “ so obviously he felt something for obi wan in this moment.
Maybe admitting he f,d up n deservedly relishes the pain n qnguish.
I think Vader says that he killed Anakin because he feels too angry and insecure to accept that Obi-Wan has hurt him.
@@kongspeaks4778 That's also very valid.... or even too insecure or angry to accept what Anakin could have been .. it's too late to turn back now, so he may as well commit to everything terrible he's already done
I think there's more to the Qui-Gon scene. Although maybe I'm overthinking it. But it ties into something Dave Filoni said in regards to Episode 1. Qui-Gon wasn't like the current Jedi, he embraced love and relationships in regards to being a Jedi, not isolation. He was to be a father figure to Anakin, not a brother as Obi-Wan was. Anakin's turn to the dark side was the failure of the Jedi. The forbidden relationship with Padme, the isolation from his family which led to the death of his mother. Unnecessary rules which serve no benefit which only caused more conflict and resentment. The methods of the Jedi during that period were incompatible with the core values of the Jedi and Qui-Gon knew this. This is why he was never on the council and rejected it.
So when Obiwan is buried under the rocks, what gives him strength? The bonds he has formed with others and his relationship with them. That is the true power of the light side of the force and it's something the Jedi have neglected. When Obi-Wan realizes this, it is a revelation and he is now on the same level of understanding as Qui-Gon, that is why he is "ready to see him" now. If you think about every victory in the Star Wars series it is the attachments with others which serves as the driving force. Vader was ultimately saved by the very thing the Jedi Code forbids.
This even follows into the sequels (oh no). Luke ultimately tries to recreate the old methods of training with his Jedi Temple, and yet again ends in destruction. Even Yoda knows the Jedi got it wrong in destroying the Jedi texts. The force is not bureaucratic. Ultimately I'd like to the think the end game would be a new Jedi order that uses attachment as a strength to unlock the true potential of the Jedi.
Anyway, just some thoughts. Carry on.
Absolutely love this interpretation. Thank you for sharing
beautifully well said
And here I was disappointed that Qui Gons appearance was wasted. Thanks for the context.
amazingly said brother
Thank you for sharing this, it was a good read.
The mix of Hayden/James voices are so well done. Vader's voice changing back and forth is badass and heartbreaking at the same time
You still have the best avatar picture and it gets me every time! HA!
Agreed 100% - that was so powerful to have the sounds of both alternating, representing Vader's/Anakin's inner conflict in that moment
It was haunting
Obi-wan “He is more machine now than man , twisted & evil”
@@ErwalDeeas same
The final episode was beautiful. The duel between Obi-Wan and Vader and the conversation later brought me to tears. The change of light on Anakin/Vader’s face, being able to hear Anakin again was just superb. I felt that the threads were closed nicely at the end of the episode linking it with the story ahead. Obi-wan grew out of the guilt and sorrow we saw him in the beginning of the series and he was back to his old self before Mustafar. Cherry on top, Qui-Gon Jin as the force ghost, finally. It was just great to see these characters and actors on screen again.
I always wondered how Vader got that huge cut scar or dent on his head visible when he took his helmet off to see Luke. I am impressed how they implemented it in the fight scene between Vader and Kenobi.
Didn’t even realize this!! Good eye
The thing is this happened in rebels, ahsoka has this very scene with vader, Lucasfilm literally stole from themselves lol.
In this episode of Kenobi, there is no apparent wounding of that area as far as I can tell. Looks like all helmet -- ???
That scar was in the behind the scenes pictures of Revenge of the Sith. Theory actually did a video on it, but it was not given to Vader here, maybe reopened it, or expanded it making it worse, but it has been there since ep3.
@@gilesm5716 It wasn’t shown in the actual film in episode 3 so perhaps they used this episode of Obi wan to tie in the origin of the scar ?
I love how Hayden still has that rage filled tone in his voice like he did in ROTS. To me the circle is truly complete now that Hayden has been seen without the helmet it really brings to life the torment, hatred, pain, and sadness of Anakin and how much of a monster Vader really is underneath the helmet
100% agree, Hayden’s acting was brilliant in that scene along with Ewan’s. Perfection
It finally makes hayden and darth vader look like the same person
The gap between hayden and the originals with james earl jones' voice was ridiculous and made it really hard to accept them as canon to each other
Now with this, its fixed
The last battle scene between Vader and kenobi was the only good battle scene in all these live action star war shows
why you refer to Episode III as ROTS.. next time..just write III. everbody knows it's called (R)evenge (O)f (T)he (S)ith - but writing it as ROTS..gahdamn man have some self respect

I feel like Obi-Wan saying “one of us must die” actually makes sense because later on he says “then my friend is truly dead”, because in that moment Anakin is dead to Obi-Wan, hence why he calls him “Darth” as he leaves. So neither of them actually die, but symbolically one does.
Great thought bro
I also love that that ties into a new hope. Ben/obiwan calls Darth Vader “Darth” multiple times.
I like that thought! I took it as a nod to when Luke says "Then my father is truly dead" in EP 6 before Vader takes him to the Emperor
Symbolically I would say Obi Wan is fully reborn into Ben when he escapes from all those rocks as well
On first viewing I had trouble with Obi-wan showing more mercy for a full blown Sith than for his padawan that he lets burn alive on Mustafar and (presumably) die. Why would he let Vader go and carry on with his murderous projects ? He is after all the Empire's top asset and much suffering could be avoided by ending him right there. Kenobi was a pretty ruthless general during the Clone wars, and didn't have trouble killing Grievous and Darth Maul before that.
But on second viewing I have to acknowledge that it makes sense in the narrative arc of this show, with Obi-wan at first crushed by negative emotions such as guilt, fear, remorse, etc and while under the rocks thrown by Vader, his mind switches to focus on Leia and Luke and that brings him back to Light.
And then of course the flashback duel in the previous episode is precisely centered on the concept of mercy, with Obi-wan lecturing Anakin, so his behavior is aligned with what he preached then. And the theme of mercy comes once more when discussing with Reva, saying to her that it was not a weakness to have spared Luke, quite the contrary and that they were now both free (of their negative emotions I guess).
So I'm sort of 90% convinced that it kinda makes sense to spare Darth Vader for him at this point in their story at least...
My favorite little piece is the "Goodbye, Darth." It is the first time he acknowledges Anakin is gone - and comes off as a bit of a sly insult. It also ties in nicely with how he refers to Vader in a new hope (only a master of evil darth). I don't think he ever uses his sith name directly to Vaders face.
Only a master of evil Darth
it didn’t feel like an insult to me but i loved that he called him that here to tie it in to A New Hope!
It was a nice touch, but he should not have just left Darth Vader to live and continue terrorizing the universe. What was he thinking!?
@Jack Harper
This is very poignant.
If he kills. 'Darth' , he becomes a murderer.
Obi-Wan has just rediscovered his Jedi abilities. To murder Darth,, would throw out Obi-Wan's ,'development'..
You missed an important detail; after Obi-Wan called him «Darth» when he left, it suddenly makes sense why Obi-Wan calls him «Darth» and not «Anakin» in A New Hope. I have always found it stupid that he called him «Darth», and Obi-Wan would never do that. Until now.
The whole Darth thing never bothered me... but the fact that Kenobi had the chance to kill Vader but just didn't is ridiculous, especially when he tries to gaslight Luke into killing him years later.
@@medalgear654 I think people are really missing something with the meaning behind Obi sparing Vader/Anakin. If you analyse it you will know the meaning and purpose of it.
ive always believed obi wan was calling vader by his title, darth. like how someones title can be sir (name), calling someone “sir” still denotes the title
@@strappymasksalesman2819 yea ina mocking way!
@@astroamp1686 then explain the meaning behind Obi-Wan leaving the most dangerous man alive to wreak more havoc across the universe and then lying to Luke and then forcing him to kill Vader when he had the perfect opportunity to do so?
Also Ewan knocked it out of the park with his performance, like when he sees "Anakin" after he cuts thro the mask and gets emotional was soooo good. Can really see and feel his pain and hurt, loved it 10/10
He was a complete bad ass in this episode, especially when he went ham and smashed up vaders control panel with his saber hilt. This dual was way better than the episode 3 show down for me. He bettered skywalker/Vader again. The ultimate kick in the ballz for Vader is that when he does in fact win, (on the Death Star) it’s an actual gimme, Obiwan let’s him win. I love the way he psychological mind fucks him. The wry little smile he gives before allowing Vader to strike him down. He knows he’s got the better of him again.
I NEED YOU
Really parallels Ashoka when she was fighting Vader too. She said his name as well when she cut off part of his mask.
I have completely given up trying to explain logic, reason and common sense to people who give this show a 10/10. It's like good writing and directing is no longer something recognizable. I truly sometimes forget how "basic" Star Wars fans can be. They'd rather have the facts/story/details right over a cogent story even though this episode was full of wtf why moments. Go back to making movies Disney these shows are garbage
@@kingwein89 you just don’t understand the Star Wars story and fine not a 10/10 literally but it met all my needs and expectations that I was wanting to see from a Star Wars show especially episode 10. Not the show as a whole.
Vader’s yelling at the end indicates that he’s almost obsessed or clinging to some unhealthy notion of Obiwan. Like a great mixture of anguish, anger, hate, and longing. Almost like a desperation for help but the confusion to ask for it. The humanity that they give him and the split mask is some of the most meaningful portrayal I’ve seen Vader in. Finally bridged the connection for me as I’d always seen too much of a separation before
Like Obi Wan told Anakin in the flashback, his need to prove himself will be his undoing. Vader/Anakin's obsession to best Kenobi ruined him again.
I personally believe it was anakin screaming obi wan to put his out of his mystery for a brief few seconds
"I am what remains." breaks me every time I rewatch this episode...the perfect combination of Hayden's voice mixed with Vaders just perfect...You can hear the emotion in Anakin's half followed with the ruthless Vader tone ugh..
Can we just take a moment to appreciate firstly how well casted Vivien is for the role of Leia, and secondly appreciate how well she acted. Roles of young kids are so hard to do right and for me not to be annoyed with, but I enjoyed her as Leia very much!
She totally nailed the sass- almost felt like she was talking with Solo or Tarkin whenever she’d back talk Obi Wan or Imperials.
Really? I know she’s just a kid but it was not believable at all.
@@trevstation it was amazing dude.
Totally agree! I think her and Ewan scenes together were the best part of the show (minus the chase)! I enjoyed it but for some reason the rest of the series just feels a bit off, i dont know why. Maybe it’s purely because it’s not Lucas’ Star Wars anymore
You can't be serious.
Anyone feel like the “I’m not your failure Obi Wan… you didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker… I did” gave Obi enough closure and ability to let go of his “hurt” to see Qui Gon? Looking back, it’s almost like Anakins last gift to Obi Wan.
ABSOLUTELY! It's pretty much a foreshadowing of Vader's personal conservation with Luke in Return Of The Jedi: He respects Obi Wan's intent, and actually gives him a bit of reassurance.
This Is a good take on it
It made me think of how Ben tells Luke that Vader killed his father. Almost like Anakin knew, and wanted Obi Wan to tell his children his father was killed by a monster and not became the monster
@@anotherbeardedcomicdude2542 yes and in that instance it’s anakin talking you can’t see his sith eyes but when he said I killed him you see Vader just showing that obi wan didn’t turn anakin to this it was the dark side
I stopped crying and you made me cry again
Hearing Vader and Anakin's voice distort and breakup together, weaving in and out of eachother.... That was tragically beautiful
This. Loved that touch so much.
Garbage fan service. Just like No Way Home. It’s a copy paste orgy in this show
It was such a good paralel to Twilight of the Apprentice. Instantly got that vibe when Obi-Wan started beating Vader. You know the saying. "It's like poetry, it rhymes"
@@TheArrowedKnee it’s not a parallel or poetry if it’s copy and paste
@@BrezzyBoi33 how’s it copy and paste? The emotions/circumstances/conversations between Vader/Kenobi and Vader/Ahsoka are literally completely different apart from the ‘then you will die’ line. Plus, Star Wars has always been about callbacks to other great scenes.
I will admit I was initially hesitant with the “you can’t tell anyone” as resolving the issue of canon, but the more I sit with it, the more it works for me. They established a great connection between Obi-Wan and Luke in the OT but this story gave us the idea that Leia was important too. “There is another”, as Yoda said. And while it isn’t maybe the best or most logical way to interpret the events of A New Hope, the “you can’t tell anyone or it will endanger us both” shows they at least cared to make this fit in with canon, and they chose to make this fun story instead of taking the logical approach and giving the audience verbatim what they think they will get at the expense of probably a less fun 6 episodes.
I agree
The part of that scene where Obi-Wan tells Leia of the traits she inherited from her parents really sticks out. Obi-Wan was talking about Anakin and Padme, of course Leia thought he meant Bail and his wife. Sadly, her and Luke never got to know they’re real parents. If they did later on, it’s only all the more tragic.
The final scene between Obi Wan and Vader brought me to tears. I felt like i could feel every bit of Anakin’s and Obi Wan’s pain. Such a great scene
Seeing Vaders face through the mask for the first time in live action and hearing his voice under the mask say "You didn't kill Anakin, I did" honestly gave me true fear chills down my spine and conveyd such strong emotion. It was a great ending.
He kinda reminds me of Adolf Hitler in Downfall. He's beaten and he knows it. All he has left are words and bluster.
I have no idea what show you were watching. The fact that Reva got stabbed by a lightsaber not once, but twice, and still survived was just so pathetic. And she miraculously just showed up on Tatooine magically! What a lame and pathetic show with no real character development. You guys are just the lowest denominator consumers that Disney wanted.
That "I will do what I must" sent chills through my whole body, that fight was in my imagination for years and it finally happened, thank you Hayden and Ewan
Same, I loved it. "He said the thing" was my reaction lol
And then he proceeds to don't do what he musts
Lol, apparently all he must do is set him free again, because that went well the first time. Now he can head back out and kill innocents, growing the empire. Nice.
@@tomasbedoya2901 Remember in the last episode when Obi-Wan was teaching Anakin about mercy?
@@lukesmale24 Remember in ROTS how Obi Wan left Anakin to die burning in a pit of lava? Remember in ROTJ when Obi Wan tries to persuade Luke to kill his father because there's no other way? Remember that? Bullshit is what I say, there's no reason for Obi Wan not to end him then and there
I love how the only way obi-wan can cope with the situation is to teach himself to believe that Anakin and Vader were 2 different people. I love how Obiwan doesn’t avoid blame in A New Hope when he said Vader was also a pupil of his like Anakin; Only that Vader turned to evil, and betrayed and killed Anakin. The sheer discrepancy between both Characters forces obi-wan to rationalize it as two individuals. His trauma and baggage are preventing him from being in a state where he isn’t constantly confronting the reality of the situation. So he constructs his own head canon essentially to help mitigate his pain. It bleeds into his training with Luke, and he justifies keeping the truth from him, as a simple difference in perspective; which with the new context of Kenobi, was a psychological state he carefully constructed to keep his mind clear of pain to be a more effective protector. Brilliant.
Feel exactly the same way seeing Qui Gon, the prequel callbacks and references made me feel like a kid again.
I think it’s important you mentioned adapting during these new Star Wars projects. Even if there are things we dislike, finding the enjoyment and the scenes that connect with us can still be meaningful.
"Only a master of evil, Darth." This line has forever changed for me from kinda corny to intense pain. Loved this show

Goodbye, Darth
I think “Goodbye…Darth” is my favorite part of this show. It gives all the context we need why Obi-Wan called Vader “Darth” on the Death Star. I never thought of it as corny, but I was always uncomfortable with the inconsistency because of how the saga progressed, so I was thankful for this tied up loose end. While I agree that “intense pain” is a big part of it, I also think pity is involved. To call him “Darth” instead of “Vader” is a sort of passive aggressive way of not taking him seriously, as if to say “Think of what you could have been, yet you’ve chosen to be this.”
Obi-Wan's "Then my friend is truly dead" is a parallel to Luke's quote in ROTJ: "Then my father is truly dead." With that retcon, we can say that Vader remembered what Obi-Wan said and that's why he was so affected by Luke's words in that beautiful ROTJ scene.
Man, this series added SO MUCH to the OT. I'm going to watch it all over again! Wow! I can't believe Disney actually made this and I can't understand why people are hating on this show. As a matter of fact, I do believe this series will grow on people.

Vader’s voice changing back and forth to Anakin and Vader gave me chills. Leia saying “will I ever see you again?” Just like Anakin to his mom brought me to tears. Best finally in a long time
I got really strong "Twilight of the Apprentice" vibes from that whole scene, i would be very, very surprised if they had not taken heavy inspiration from it. But it was incredibly well done and got to me for sure
I really love how this episode depicted the relationship between master and apprentice. Thinking you have came so far and learned so much and then your master shows up and says much training you still need. Really shows the depth of the possibilities of the force.
One thing I noticed too is that sometimes Vader would put both hands on his saber instead of using his typical one hand. It’s as if he needed a better grip knowing that Kenobi had gotten stronger.
Things I really liked about this episode:
-Ewan & Hayden, they were so great
-Anakin/Vader's voice blending--this shows the voice Hayden developed to sync up with James Earl Jones' performance
-Owen & Beru got a chance to shine, we see their genuine love & guardianship for Luke
-Qui-Gon Jin, of course
-Palpatine the Great, calling out Vader's weakness like a true master, pushing him to move beyond Kenobi
-Cry Theory returns--seriously man, don't ever change. :)
All of those for sure, but honorable mention to the scene where Obi-Wan described Leia's parents without saying their names, with her theme and the Force theme running in the background. That scene really got me.
Oh and Leia saying "Will i ever see you again?", basically *identically* to Jake Lloyds Anakin.
YES THE VOICE BLEND. That gave me chills. This was such a legendary performance by these men. James Earl Jones must be kept alive at all costs.
Your so right! Don’t ever change theory! We love you!
i like reva..
Well if we put him in carbonite and just thaw him out for Vader voice overs we can probably hold on to him for some time. That said he’s an elderly gentleman now at 91 years of age, he may not survive the freezing process??
The voice shifting between Vader and Anakin was an absolute GIFT for me.
Also Vader lost cause he had some feelings in his way, and Obi spared cause of the deep feelings and friendship he had
Totally agree
@@StudentTrader basically they spared each other’s by their feelings
Did he lose though? He was still standing and Obi Wan decided to just walk away. Did he spare him because of that? He did say his friend is truly dead and called him Darth. Idk
Lmao you’ve posted this same comment on multiple videos
Totally agree
Season Finale- It was mind blowing, I loved the way Obi-Wan reconnected with the force over powered Vader by miles and the strong sorrowful, emotional and tearful acting that was shown by Ewan McGregor was totally immense.
Bullshit writing
I would argue that it was kenobis grown attachment and love and hope for the children is what gave kenobi the greater strength. One will notice that a anakin was always more powerful while striving to protect those he loves. This supports the idea that love and emotion are correct vs the pure Jedi way. I like the thought that obi-wan is evolving into a more powerful person by embracing what anakin did right.
i totally agree with this!
I think Obi Wan's line "Then my friend is truly dead" adds some more emotional weight to when Luke tells Vader "Then my Father is truly dead" in ROTJ - perhaps this sparks a memory for Vader at that moment which may have made him dwell on his long lost friendship with Obi Wan and hence the man he was before he became Darth Vader, there may have also been an element of regret to having killed his former master and 'brother'. I would like to think that this all aided in his transition to the light side.
I like this.
I second this motion.

Great input bro
I feel like "Then my brother is truly dead" would have fit better but "friend" works fine.
Bro, Hayden’s smile he did when he said, “I did,” was actually so creepy. I love that he actually made it seem like Vader was a different person from Anakin. It was like he was possessed or something.
The way Vader was looking upward with his eyes is the same way Anakin looked up at Palpating when he was knighted Darth Vader, looking up, being seduced by the dark side.
Fr dude, the smile creeped me out bro 😳
for a moment i thought palpatine was talking through him. well, he kinda was...
That's what the Dark Side does to you. It changes you, almost completely. It's similar to how it changed Ben Solo into Kylo Ren, and vice versa. Notice how different Ben Solo was compared to Kylo Ren. His mannerisms, his humor, he even looked healthier when he reverted back to Ben, and he fought with a style very similar to Anakins. Instead of the brute force style of Kylo Ren which was also like Vaders.
He wasn’t necessarily smiling, it’s just looked like that with the cut mask
I loved the hello there reference, and think it ties in perfectly with in the previous episode when kenobi said hello to the driver when getting picked up, and now he has returned to his former self so his old ways have returned
I loved this episode and I felt very emotional watching it. I cant wait to see what comes next! Great video, thanks so much.
The bit that broke me was when Owen turned to Kenobi and said "do you want to meet him?"
10 years he waited to meet the boy he has pretty much given his life up to watch over.
Equally emotional Leia calling him Obi Wan driving home the fact that she will probably never see him again.
I think it also give weight to just how ecstatic she when she finds out he is on the death star during the rescue mission in ANH
I chokes up a little bit too. Owen was very, very well portrayed. Honestly one of my favorite characters in the show. He's such a badass mofo in this.
I tried to find the part where she’s ecstatic, she doesn’t really show any emotion to him dying or being there
yes she does. it's when Luke says he is here with Ben Kenobi and Leia practically shouts "Ben Kenobi!!! Where is he???"
Oh yeah, he definitely gave up his life to guarding him. That's why he cut himself off from the force and then jumped at the opportunity to go save leia who is obviously more important than Luke, instead of letting Baile and his fucking planet sized resouces to find his "daughter"
@@ChiefCrewin and then left Luke again to go train lol
When I saw Obi-Wan cut off the mask, I said to myself, “This is the sound design opportunity of a lifetime. Please get it right!” And they killed it. Despite any qualms I have with the show, the way they mixed Hayden Christian and James Earl Jones’s voices together was absolutely menacing. I will definitely be rewatching for that moment alone.
It would have been more impressive if Rebels hadn't done it first (albeit with animation and Matt Lanter's voice). For me it was more like a powerful callback, and completion of a circle - first time (later in the timeline) he faced his former apprentice, second time (earlier in the timeline) he faced his former master.
Not exactly. They are copy pasting everything from other shows for lifeless fan service. And you bots are eating it up

The half Vader/Anakin reveal was perfect, pretty much all I wanted from the series and the voice transition with saber glare so well done. I'd kind of wanted a de-helmeted Vader fighting Obi Wan but this was far more canon-consistent I think.
Parts of that brought me to tears. I know the series wasn’t perfect but I loved it. 10 years ago we thought we’d never see the actors do these characters again. This is a blessing.

I did really like the symmetry in the dialoge between Kenobi and Vader. Like "Then you will die" vs "you will try" in Episode III and also the line "Then my friend is truly dead" vs "Then my father is truly dead" as Luke said in Episode VI. It did feel a bit like George Lukas said: It rhymes.
It's more so symmetry with what he said to Ahsoka in rebels.
Beautiful breakdown! you hit the spots to put tears on my eyes again..
Love how they kept switching between Hayden's voice and James Earl Jones’ voice
"I killed him" makes the conversation between Luke and Obiwan (Return of Jedi) make more sense.
Luke: "you told me Vader killed my father"
Obiwan: "what I told you was true, from a certain point of view".
Great observation!

The way that Ewan perfectly portrays the pain and hurt seeing Anakin under the helmet was immaculate acting, not to mention Haydens amazing performance of pain and anger in just his voice and facial expressions. Absolutely amazing scene that I never thought I would see 💯❤️.
Both actors performances were superb and for me the best thing about the show. Things like Vader being unable to sense Obi Wan was alive and well a few feet away, turning away with a job done mentality took me out of the show abit I might of blurted out BS while watching that. Would of liked a little more Obi Wan in my Obi Wan show.
I feel that Anakin, in very childish Anakin style, tried to bury Kenobi as if burying his problems. In his mind Kenobi is his last attachment to the light side. The conflict on his face was just showing that Anakin was still in there somewhere. The light from the sabers and his voice modular switching in between was done very well to reflect this. I think him screaming for obiwan again is heartbreaking - I think it was all Anakin and not Vader. Anakin screaming for help again. Knowing the lengths he’d take for his loved ones (literally still trying to resurrect padme as we speak) and not getting that in return must be his undoing.
In a very un-Vader or un-dark sided way, Anakin absolved Kenobi of his guilt too, which was very kind I think in a weird way, but also cemented him as too far gone to gloat something like that.
I will hand it to you. You were bang on with some of the things you predicted about the show in previous videos. Impressive. Most impressive.
I love how when he says "I'm not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker- I did.", the light shines blue onto his face, signifying Anakin's lightside breaking through to give Obi-Wan closure. Then the light's reflection turns red as 'Vader' regains control and says "The same way I will destroy you!"
It was also chilling how his emotions went from indignation, shame, pride, and then anger.
you gay
Hayden kill it whit bad acticg
It was very profound that Anakin chose to release Obi Wan from his guilt.
It was very cool how vaders voice mixed with anakin's.
Was that Anakin's intent though? Or was he trying to claim credit away from Obi-Wan?
Beautiful and awesome Tv hope season 2 have ))

fantastic series breakdown. left me in tears. metal!!! thank you.
Dude hearing Vader talk with his battle damaged helmet really creeped me out. It sounded like he was struggling to talk. It looked like he was feeling an extreme amount of pain for every word he says without his mask on. Hayden Christensen really did a great job in this scene. Also it was really nice to see Liam Neeson again 😎👍🏼. Thanks for the video breakdown theory!
Vader with the broken helmet was the best part of this episode... I wish they'd shown a bit more of him recuperating & processing rather than cutting to the scene with Palpatine where he already has a shiny new helmet.
my first thought was that he sounded like bane
@@callmetz7967 honestly my first thought is that he sounds like me when I have a terrible cold with strep throat. And I gobble down a whole bucket of Texas bluebell ice cream just to cool it down lol 😆
@@robws007 that would be cool but it wouldn’t really make sense because every minute he doesn’t have his helmet fully on, can lead to death for him. Especially with the toxic air on that rock planet(well it’s toxic for Vader not Kenobi)

Seeing Qui-Gon really hit me in the feels as it did you, perhaps for different reasons. I was in my mid 20's when TPM came out. It was also the last time I ever got to see a movie with my father. The parallels of the whole Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan relationship, I could relate to later in life.
This new films and series is all about hitting the FEELINGS , and without offending you but using you as example, this serie was TOTAL SHIT, uncannon as fuck . Just a pointless feelings grabbing for weak people . Dogshit Disney as always

It was a great show ending. The broken mask and mixed voice was so dark and incredible. Hayden killed it again as Vader. It was so great to see Ewan and Hayden back as well as Liam Neesan and Ian Mcdiarmid. Watching Obiwan meet Luke finally saying the iconic "Hello There" line and giving Luke the T-16 SKYHOPPER toy was great as well. So many tie ins and closures to bring the prequels and Originals together.
this episode was a 90’s/2000’s kid’s dream
I loved the Alec Guinness transitions how after the fight he calls him “Darth” like he does in a new hope now he knows anakin is consumed and it’s made so many lines of dialogue make more sense from both a new hope and return of the Jedi before some felt a bit jagged with age after the prequels came out but this show has perfectly blended the dialogue with the newer ideas
Agreed- I thought the transitions were a nice way to smooth the transitions between films. Also, from an effects-level, they did the same with the merging of the robotic Vader voice with Anakin's voice, which I thought was eerily magnificent. Puts a nice auditory transition for all the "but he says 'Mah-ster' in the original films vs Anakin saying 'master'" people.
9:59 That makes perfect sense! Maybe the cuts (right for Ahsoka and left for Obi-Wan) were meant to symbolize how the two people closest to Anakin (besides Padme, of course), managed to break through to Anakin, but it wasn’t enough to redeem him.
But Luke was able to (metaphorically) break Vader’s mask completely and bring Anakin back to the light.
Quite poetic and fitting
Padmé helped remove his helmet through their son... Luke
Third times a charm
I just realized that Vader's famous huge scar on the top-left of his head is Obi-Wan slashing his mask
I loved the episode! Vader and Obi-wan scenes were so brilliantly put together… 🔥
I loved this episode. ! For me it had everything - like you said “was it perfect” - no ! But it was epic / emotional and fun !!!
I'm just going to come out and say it: Ewan McGregor is always a win. He nailed it in this series, and it's obvious from his interviews how much this character means to him. It's been a joy to see him back as Obi-Wan.
Agreed, have to say the same about Hayden Christensen as well. Both Hayden & Ewan understand their characters and have so much chemistry together (especially the Finale encounter scene)
Him and Christianson carried it, agreed. Buy I don't know if it was enough to save it from sucking 😢

Why are there people like you who have the mindset of, “oh just turn your brain off and enjoy it”? Or “Just be happy you’re getting StarWars content at all”. I can speak for a lot of fans that episodes 1-6 and the clone wars would be just fine. A lot of StarWars fans have been following and studying the franchise for 20+ years. So when Disney releases a half assed, poorly written project, (which is more common than not) of course we’re going to speak out about it. StarWars fans aren’t the only ones who do this. The series conflicted me. Your video, though, was more moving and touched me more than the series! I love your passion for this content and how you actually make it sound better than Disney made it to be. Thank you!
I think that Kenobi adopting Qui-Gon's stance in his final fight against Maul was more of a bait than anything. You see a look of realization on Maul's face after Obi-Wan switches stances. And then, once the fight begins, Maul attempts to counter the stance/form in the same way he did so with Qui-Gon, using the hilt to stun him. This is the point where Obi-Wan's bait-out succeeds. He uses Maul's pride to bait him into killing the apprentice the way he did the master, making him incredibly predictable to Obi-Wan, who needs only one precise strike to win. Obi-Wan won that fight before it even began.
I posted the same thing, but you beat me to it by a couple hours. You also said it better than I did.
Vader used the same stance during the finale. Watch the fight back again
Yeah this is exactly how Sam Witwer himself describes the dual too
@@geenickelhead8118 Great minds! It's my favorite lightsaber duel to this day. To me it emphasizes what makes old Ben such a formidable opponent. @korrok Oh yeah there was definitely some of that as well. A final nod towards his master, who is always with him, always watching. Wordlessly expressing to his master that, while he was, finally, to avenge his death, it would be from a place of calm, controlled mercy, as upposed to the brushless and rage with which he'd approached Maul during their first battle. I think it also symbolized how things have changed - Obi Wan was not able to protect Qui-Gon (nor Anakin), but now, at the end, he would fulfill his master's final wish. He would protect the boy.
I love how kenobi kept calling him anakin, until now, calling him darth. In anh, ben called him that and it shows how he gave up believing anakin is in there.

Love how Obi-Wan calls him “Darth.” He taunts him like he does in a New Hope. Gives me goosebumps
I saw it more as Obi Wan letting go of his guilt and hope of Anakin still being in there and accepting that this is a new man
"Only a Master of evil Darth." It ties in so perfectly even if there are still some continuity errors here and there but honestly I don't care. It came full circle for me this episode even if it did stagger quite a bit to get here.
I liked that too. A form of mockery.
I love the part when obi-wan says "goodbye Darth" a call to a new hope when they meet again.
After this episode and seeing the relationship between Obi-Wan and Leia throughout the series, I feel it is even more poignant that Leia and Han named their son Ben.
I agree entirely. Before this series, Leia didn't really have any connection with Ben so it didn't make sense to me that they named him that.
I love how it shows that Obi wan isn’t just a pushover for Vader instead Obi wan wins not by power but by raw skill not saying that Vader lacks any but what I’m trying to say is that since Obi wan trained Anakin so he was able to use Anakins anger to his advantage and plus Vader’s kinda limited in his movements so yea.
The scene between Vader/Anakin and Obi-Wan shattered me. I broke down into tears, man. Hayden’s ability to communicate hate and anger just with his eyes, even through the makeup and half of his face not being visible is absolutely incredible. The lighting of that scene switching from the blue glow of Kenobi’s lightsaber when Anakin was telling him that he isn’t Obi-Wan’s failure, to the red glow of Vaders lightsaber when VADER took over and said he killed Anakin, just like he’ll destroy Obi-Wan was unbelievable. Not to mention Hayden’s absolutely SEAMLESS transitions back and forth from how Anakin speaks to how Vader speaks was phenomenal, and truly showed his acting skills. His SCREAMING of Obi-Wan’s name sent a chill down my spine. And of course, Ewan’s ability to communicate Kenobi’s emotions and past guilt over Anakin’s fall with barely any word of mouth and a lot of talking with the eyes is honestly some of the best acting I’ve seen from him ever. The entire scene made me cry like a baby. Their story is so heartbreaking, and out of all the stories in Star Wars is the one that always moves me to tears. Beautiful show man.
Love how youre so passionate bout it
It makes the prequel hate unwarranted, and put a halt on Hayden's career. Anakin's character while well written in the PT, was poorly *directed* with poor *dialogue*. Hayden is a talented actor and is quite clearly a theater sort of actor. Expressive.

You could feel anakins voice shine through Vader when he said “you really thought you could defeat me” “master” after tossing the boulders on obi wan
When Vader says “You didn’t fail Anakin I killed him” it reminds me of the part where obi wan says “Vader Betrayed and Murdered your father” and its a nice callback to that. Also when Luke finds our Vader is his father and obi wan says “its true from a certain point of view” makes so much more sense now
it already made sense before
Great episode, and very coherent with the past & future of the saga. Absolutely loved the Vader/Obi Wan fight and interaction, and especially the broken mask - Vader's voice switching between the Hayden (Anakin) and JEJ (Vader original), conveying Vader's the full internal conflict. Obi Wan parts with Vader, calling him simply "Darth", as he does in New Hope - an appellation consciously defiant and insolent to Anakin's new identity, and diminishing of all Siths, thus completing the humiliation that is inherent with choosing the dark side, and which Anakin's ego seems to always stumble upon as he yearns instead for his Master's recognition of his status. Beautifully tied all together. One more "easter egg" - in New Hope, Luke discovers a lightsaber for the first time and asks Ben what it is -- naturally, in this episode when Third Sister approaches Luke to kill him, he is passed out and does not see the lightsaber.

Honestly, for everything that I've seen throughout this show, I truly genuinely loved how this series ended. I don't think I would see it any other way. Although the Kenobi series may have some issue with inconsistencies with the Canon of Star Wars as well as some needlessly dragged in fillers, I for one loved seeing the things that we gladly got in the show. With scenes such as the flashback with Anakin and Obi-wan, numerous prequels and clone wars callbacks as well as finally getting to see the force ghost of Qui-gon Jinn. That scene right there was a cherry on top for me with this series. I'm entirely grateful to see him again!
