    This makes Obi-Wan's end so much more poignant. He looked over, saw the twins he had dedicated his life to, together. Saw them, and knew it was time. Vader's strike wasn't even what killed him. He just... let go.

    The best aspect of Obi-wan, is Vader gave him the opportunity to forgive himself.
    When Vader says, "I killed Anakin." You can see Obi-Wan's facial expression change from self-loathing, to sadness for his friend. I think Vader showed compassion for his friend by taking ownership of his path, allowing Obi-Wan to forgive himself and move closer into the light of the force. This also showed there is still good in Vader, and he is still a complicated person.
    In the beginning of the series, Obi-Wan had placed himself in purgatory, by the end, he was on a path towards enlightenment.

    I always had a bittersweet feeling during RotS when Anakin and Kenobi separate and Kenobi tells him "Goodbye, old friend". So after confirming that his friend is truly dead in this episode and he tells him "Goodbye" and then there is that pregnant pause where my mind filled in "old friend", but quickly realized that was no longer true, and then he says "Darth", it hit pretty deep. Almost like he was realizing the same thing.
    Great episode, tied a lot of things together in a great way. Love the explanations and how they included Owen and Beru really protecting Luke, not just hiding him.

    I love how the mask literally symbolizes as a mask for Anakin to hide his anger and rage.
    When he has the mask on he is composed, commanding and intimidating. But once his face is exposed and hes unable to hide behind the mask, he loses all composure and you truly see just how rageful the person inside the suit is with Anakin screaming at the top of his lungs in desperation.

    "He can't sense Qui Gon because he needs closure with Anakin. " I have a different interpretation. Obi Wan has been wracked with FEAR this entire time. His FEAR of failing Luke and everyone involved. That FEAR would never allow him to make spiritual gains in the Light Side of the Force because FEAR is a path to the Dark side. In the end, he started to TRUST others; you saw it when he told Owen Lars that things would be fine, and when he met Luke for real. The "Hello There" is him projecting that he no longer has FEAR... and in that turn of events, he immediately can commune with QuiGon.

Even when they are not dealing with each other face to face, they are dealing with each other mentally (and through the force). Obi-Wan and Leia is a major plot point on its own, considering Obi-Wans most important objective is not to defeat Vader, but to keep Leia and Luke safe and secret. It also could be seen as Anakin still surviving within Vader, almost forgiving Obi-Wan, but also to give his old master a sense of relief. Since after all, Obi-Wan must have regretted and loathed letting Anakin down and failing him. He even says it in their duel that he failed Anakin. He believed it whole heartedly. So Anakin almost comes from the depths and hands Obi-Wan this get outta jail free card to let his old friend go once and for all.

    He famously said that to Yoda, who replied with "You will be." This has been proven both times he uttered that line.
    Also, I have mixed feelings about Liam Neeson appearing: on the one hand it's a touching reunion; but on the other the implication he presented to Yoda in The Clone Wars was that he hadn't trained far enough to manifest a ghost form before he died, but was trained enough to commune with the living, like how Ben presented for the rest of ANH.

  • @Trindall91
    @Trindall91 Год назад +15

    Interesting to note with the connection between Obi-Wan and Ahsoka 'half-masking' Vader vs Luke going all the way; he also does it via an act of mercy, not a fight. This also juxtaposes Anakins' quip during the flashback that 'Mercy won't defeat an enemy'. I also think it's a really cool, if tragic testament to just how far everyone Anakin was close to thought he had fallen. After this point, even Obi-Wan sees Anakin as 'dead' and completely irredeemable. Everyone EXCEPT Luke. Kinda also saddens me what happened with Luke's character in the sequels, now that I think about it...
