Amazing 1943 Martin D-28 - Don't Think Twice, It's Alright (Bob Dylan Cover)

  • What you see before you is an incredible, original 1943 Martin D-28 with Herringbone binding. While America was well and truly involved in WW2 by 1943 - the term ‘Pre War’ denotes a specific quality, design and materials that Martin were able to maintain until 1944. This is the same model that Gerry Garcia and Hank Williams played. It is a truly significant piece of musical history. Not only that but it is a beautiful guitar to play. Incredibly light construction with serious mid range projection. A real 'banjo killer' as they say. I felt very lucky to be able to play this instrument. It is recorded using a single Telefunken (Neumann) U47 microphone, shot on a Canon EOS R6. I hope you enjoy!

      @@brutusadmirer8043 I'm glad you picked up on that. Some people have said that my take didn't have the emotion that it aught to. Yes indeed, that's the only way I finger pik also, most players Iv'e seen don't brace their hand with the little finger, but I can't do it any other way. Your guitar sound will be Better IF you DON'T hold the little finger on the sound/board 'cause it interferes with the sound from your guitar- it Deadens the sound slightly

    Absolutely fine. I once learned to play "Tambourine Man" while sitting in a hotel room in Pattaya, Thailand, without money, just guessing the chords and jotting down the lyrics from a cassette.
    The key thing with Dylan, is to understand his tempo. He sounds kind of slow, but his songs are mostly pretty fast, especially the way he stacks up the words.

    Hey Jordan-with your hybrid picking style, it looks like you dedicate your pick to the top 3 low strings and your middle and ring fingers to the lower 3 high strings-right? I'm learning out of a book right now for hybrid picking and he does it a little different. I like how you use your pinky for support. That's the way I finger pick, and I prefer to do it that way. I guess it's hard to break old habits, but the pinky support keeps the hand stabilized. Very nice job with the song, both picking and singing. My first time to find your channel. I'll be back for more!!!

    • @Jordan_Thomas
      @Jordan_Thomas  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you very much. Yes I basically use the pick on the three bass strings and 2 fingers on the treble strings. Sometimes the pick makes its way over to the high strings too. And yes, the pinky support is great! I can never pick accurately without it

    Jordan, I am impressed by the whole setup, vocal, guitar, picking and recording. My first *real* guitar was a D-28, a 1969 build that I bought at a music store. I paid more for the guitar and case than I paid for my car. Don't play it as much as I used to, but I pulled it out a little while ago to see if the sound compared to yours. Gratefully, it does. Masterful craftsmanship that crosses the generations. Great job on the pickin' and the vocals. Love it! I have a question, and If you don't mind. Please tell me what the mike is that you are using. I think I know, but I want to be sure. Thanks for your contribution. Lee
