I'm 71 yo and have followed Dylan for decades. Just saw this. Best cover of this song. Very subtle and sweet.

I don't believe you
It makes me happy that there are young people who still play this style of music.
@Guy Martin I discovered a few of them in the last months, It makes me confident and happy.

His voice blew my mind. I wasn’t prepared for how amazing his voice sounded.

I’m a hardcore Dylan fan for almost 60 years now but Carson, you did a beautiful job with this song.
I saw Dylan when he went electric at the Newport Folk Festival 1965 in Rhode Island.
Our house was so close it was like a free concert with the sound echoing off our back
wall. I remember the boo's from the crowd Bob had Fender Stratocaster. He played a
full set of R+R . I was a kid and had no idea my Sis and I were watching a big part of
musical history. Oh time where did it all go.....
and what do you think of this performance?
Carson has a much better voice than most top artist of today. He deserves a lot more recognition than he actually gets. Sing on Carson, we love you, man. 🎶🎵🇺🇸🤗

Dylan fan for over 50 years. This is perfection. Thank you.
The phrasing and tempo .. he owns it..perfection.
Only one other person has done this tune justice, and that was Dylan himself. I vote for your version over ALL the covers I've listened to. Great job, man.
Jerry Garcia
Jerry Garcia band does a great one...Check it out
Jerry Garcia did an amazing cover!!!!
Jerry García >
I prefer covers where the artist leaves some kind of change to the song where they can call it their own. I think it almost achieves that. It sounds more modernly generic than the original, unfortunately.
Singing Bob in the park. With dogs running in the background.
But singing Bob with emotion, soul, heartfelt. Great job.
and she picked the poop up ! good girl .
If dogs run free, why not we
This is a marvelous version of the song. The way you perform it and the backdrop of the park turn this into one of the most beautiful things I've found on RUclips. You're a wonderful musician, Carson.
Clicked on this on a whim. Blown away; absolutely blown away.
Speaking as an old man who has been a Dylan fan since 1962, and who saw Dylan live when he first went electric in 1965, I congratulate you. This is a very fine cover. And it makes me happy to see that young people are still interested in Bob Dylan, and what he did for us all.
Controlled opposition.
@@lebe220 ...and so goes the nature of our crafted "heroes"
I'll second that from across the pond Perry. It was 66 in Birmingham England that I first saw him, and half the audience walked out when he went electric in the second half of the show. Also very much agree with your rating of young Carson here. Good job son.
Did you see Dylan in the Village?
@@kencrawford9199 As Dylan always said "The times they are a changing". I still listen to his music almost everyday. Right along with The Beatles, Lou Reed, Carol King.... Funny to think that I'm listing to music from

Dang, Carson--I wish you would do more solos. I love your work with Josh, Reina, and Toni, but you have your own sound. It's great.
I totally agree. Do more solos to showcase your voice, your guitar tunings, and your arrangements. You do your best work when doing solo.
Carson- I have listened to literally dozens of covers of this song. Many, many of them are absolutely unlistenable, and many are by singers trying to emulate Dylan, which is a shame, because, as this video shows, it's a very melodic song if given a chance. Yours is EASILY the finest cover of this beautiful, touching song. You have a fine voice, which is evident on many of the covers I've seen with you and Josh.
He objectively sings this better than Dylan lol.
Checkout the Jeff Tweedy version from the movie I’m not there (Bob Dylan biopic). That also is really beautiful. But Carson version is my favourite too 😊
Beautiful

@@mragunathan1627 in fairness, dylan was never known primarily for his voice, as distinctive as it was.
This is such a great performance by a true artist. I especially enjoyed the extended introduction and closing bars. I love listening to you sing and play Carson. You make a lot of people happy.
I've been wondering if Dylan himself has seen this, and what he would think of it. I can only guess that he would be very proud. Great job, man.
I think he'd be jealous!
I think he would appreciate this mix. Dylan is always changing the original as time goes on. Check this song on Bob Dylan at Budokon

The 20th or 30th time I’ve come back to this masterpiece of music and film. Just brilliant.
When Carson stops abruptly then scratches his neck (early on) that, my friends is pure showmanship. That's one.cool.dude.
Yea, and when I learned this tune from this here video I felt obligated to throw in the neck scratch. Just feels right :-). Tho still couldn't hold a candle to his version. Haha.

I was looking for this comment before I post it 😁
He is really great
I can’t believe the sound quality with you sitting in the park. Excellent.
The Zoom H2 is no joke.
Ryan Taylor this is by no means pre-recorded. The sound is processed afterwards hence the quality
That microphone is great! I just bought a Zoom H2n, I have to learn how to use it well yet, but I can already say that it‘s amazing
Ryan Taylor I basically never pre-record audio...one, because I feel it would undermine the “you’re sitting here listening to me play” immediacy I like about my videos, and two, because it’s honestly harder to nail than just doing the damn thing live, especially if I’m just working with vox and guitar, hah! But seriously, I don’t blame you for thinking so-some aspects, like reverb and such, obviously don’t match the outdoor setting, but I’m a sucker for plate verb, so I included it anyway. There are also tricky tracks like “Take It Easy”, where I’m playing a G shape, but tuned down, so that it sounds like an E or something, and instances where I’ve dubbed in, like, one chord to mask a major flub (meaning there might be a half-second where my playing doesn’t match the video). But still-it’s pretty dang live if I can help it.
You, an Encore guitar and a Zoom. Superb sound! What I'd give for a voice like yours!
Dude the way you just embrace the emotions you feel with the song just emanates back to me (and all the viewers). Incredibly done, this is probably my favorite cover of yours. I keep coming back to it.
Me too!
The descending chord sequence at the start of this song is surely one of Dylan's greatest pieces of writing. I love "Blood on the Tracks", in my opinion it is his greatest album, filled with so many wonderful songs, SToF included. Thanks for this sensitive cover, Carson, even my beloved Joan Baez didn't do it as well as you do here....
The descending chord sequence (I - I maj7 - I7 - IV) is at the beginning of Home Again by Carole King that was on Tapestry as well. It's absolutely exquisite.
Criminally underrated album - one of my absolute favorites, every song is great

Thanks Carson for your Bob Dylan cover. You still have a golden voice and great guitar playing talent man ! Best Wishes !

The best cover of this classic Dylan song I've heard. The delicate vocal nuances really suits the lyric.

Beautiful cover of a song I've enjoyed over the past 45 years.
I don't see how anybody could do a better cover of this song, even Bob Dylan. This is just magnificent Carson. Keep up the great work !
This is a beautiful performance. I especially like the moment at 2:08 where Carson uses the "stop" in the lyric as a break-down moment and then calmly scratches himself until it's time to start playing again. Such calm! I've watched it a 100 times trying to cover Carson here. For the guitar players, here's what I think is happening: everything's tuned down 1/2 a step and then the following chord progression: E - E - Emaj7 - Emaj7 - E7 - E7 - Asus2 - Asus2 - Amin-add2 - Amin-add2 - | E - Emaj7 | - F#min7 - E -F#min7.
I really appreciate you posting this. I have been trying to figure this out myself. I figured it had to be alternative tuning somehow, but I couldn't get a handle on it. Also, I'm not sure why it matters, as it would be difficult to do the song this much justice. But that's the effect these guys have on me - they make me want to practice and try to emulate just a fraction of their talent.
Thank you so much
You obviously know the guitar, so I wanted to ask this question, which may sound stupid but I don't know anything about the instrument and It's always bugged me.
When guitarists are pressing the strings on the neck of the guitar to change the chords, sometimes their hand will be near the tuning pegs and sometimes near the
sound hole depending on what chord is needed. Sometimes they need to change the chords rapidly from one end to the other which results in a squeak when the fingers slide along the length of the strings. Can't anything be done about this? That squeak sounds horrible and to me, ruins the tune.
@@donmiller2908 Man this is part of the character of a guitar, all these casual peripheral sounds from the instrument. In pop music nowadays they'll often be edited out but in my opinion it's a sweet part of the whole, physical expression of playing a guitar. Learn to love these quirks and chance squeals from her.
@@donmiller2908 Also as you become more practiced on the guitar, you'll find the squeaks hopefully diminish because your hand speed will increase enough so that rather than slid into or out of a chord shape, you'll come straight off the neck and then straight down. Well, that's the plan anyway. Takes practice but it can be done.

You made it your own the moment you went to the high register, and let that sweetness shine, making a beautiful counterpoint to the bittersweet story of the song. One listen will not be enough!
I love how your voice owns each moment. Just wonderful
Love hearing a little commentary with the songs. Also that Eastman with big open chords sounds intoxicating
This is one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs, maybe in the top 10 or top 5. I love the teen Carson version and of course all the Dylan ones. But in this version Carson captured the poetry and deep delicacy of the lyrics like no one else. The drama of encounter and loss. Chance. The pain and the delight. Whenever I want to listen to Simple Twist of Fate I look for this page. Carson, you're a great singer not only because of technique, but because you understand, feel and sing the poems.
