You guys did a pretty good, sensitive, authentic, and respectful rendition of this song. I really enjoyed it. I am 76. The first time I heard Bob Dylan sing I was a senior in high school. He sang a song on the Ed Sullivan TV variety show -- just a random guest appearance. They introduced him as a "folk singer." "Ladies and gentlemen, our next performer is a folk singer. Please welcome Bob Dylan." He came out with a guitar and a harmonica. He sang "The Ballad of Horace Brown." I thought "This guy is really different. This is not a folk song. He is putting them on. He is making a statement. They don't even realize. This is so cool. This is a song for right now. This is about the civil rights movement right now. This ain't no stinking folk song from the past." I was a fan of and supporter of Martin Luther King Jr. and later marched with him. Later that night, I thought: "Dylan (and others) are bringing the tradition of folk music into the present. This is important." I made a mental note to follow him. The next time I was in a record store I found his album "Free Wheeling" and bought it. This song, along with "Blowing in the Wind" and "Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" were on it. I "got it" as they say. It was so good I had to share it with everyone I knew. With that album he became the poet lauriat of my generation. As I listened to that record I and my friends joined my generation. My freshman year in college, in the dorm, Bob Dylan's songs were all we talked about. None of us had ever heard anything like it. And it just kept coming. He was so cool. In 1967, they did a documentary of his "Don't Look Back" tour of England. I watched it in a movie theatre. There is a scene of him arriving at an airport randomly holding a great big light bulb. An aggressive reporter rushes up to him and says "Tell us Mr. Dylan, what is the essence of your message." That is the dumbest question you can ask an artist. The obvious answer is, "If I could say it in a sentence, I would not need art." Dylan smiled, and was so totally cool. He said "Be good, and carry a big light bulb." All the young people in that theatre laughted their heads off. The older folks did not get it.
Ralle/Maxiq Yea I love the way they add that little twist through a thick E7 / G#dim sonority before falling back to the main Am chord. Full credit to them since you had to change the singing melody as well to do that ;)

The Cockroaches North America you hit it with your "lost in space" comment! I really like to watch these guys play and sing because they get lost in the music and they love what they're doing. It's fun to watch and listen.
+The Cockroaches North America Pick up the guitar again. Stop playing isn't a good solution. Fingerpicking with a metronome and ear training gives a better result. You should think, see it's possible to do this. Bob Dylan isn't this good so at least you could be as good as Bob. He did well with a simpler "homemade" version of this song.
Jozef Akantis I've watched his live performances and it's chord strumming. One is an american show about 40 minutes long but I can't see the guitar picking done on his recording. In my opinion Josh Turner would out-play him. Dylan would out-perform him in songwriting as he does with most acoustic songwriters.
Pablo Benito -- You know, Simon and Garfunkel _did_ start this way. They were living in NY City, in the same tenement building, and were also schoolmates I believe. So they grew up together - just like Josh & Carson.
I have been following Josh Turner for over a year now and I never fail to be in awe of his talent. I'm 75 and have been playing banjo for 25 years. I feel like a beginner next to him - and not even talking mandolin, guitar, bass uke and lute!
On the other hand I told a friend one time that I wished I had started playing the banjo when I was 10 and he said be glad that you started at 50 because you don't want to be 70 and say I wish I had started at 50.
If you have just found this now then you are super lucky because there is 9 years more worth of music you can now listen to created by these legendary guys. I'd like to imagine Bob Dylan sitting back watching these guys and thinking to himself "Yep I definitely did good."
I found them approx 4 months ago and, as you say, have spent some time watching all the other videos. These guys are ultra-talented and so much fun to watch as they're having more fun than their listeners. Such a pleasure for this 74-year-old to know the fate of quality music is in good hands with these fellas.
@@tanyaraven9492 that's wonderful. Music is such a wonderful shared experience whether in person or online. It cuts through all the differences we think we have to bring us all together.
I wonder often why god gives all of the talent to a few of the people, when so many of us would love to have just one of the gifts... but then I listen to this and I know. As much as I want to play this well, or sing this well or have a bit of this to play... I get to listen to this. Then it all makes sense. I wish god had blessed me with the talent, but at least he blessed me with the ears to hear it. Thank you.
I've probably listened to this once a week for a year or so. And I can't believe I've not left a comment. Maybe words just fail me. You boys just bring all these classic songs back to life. And it brings so many of us pure joy. Thank you!
The Other Favorites is a superteam. Josh is a good singer and an extremely talented beast in the instruments. Carson is a good guitarist who has a voice that makes all other singers sound pale in comparison. And both are superb in authoring original songs too.
this is one of the more honest and authentic covers of this song i have ever heard. I have heard this song live, many many times i have heard this song recorded many many times this is by far, hands down the best version i have ever listened to Thank You
In the same way that Simon and Garfunkel’s voices were simply meant to exist together.. and complement the other so beautifully, so do yours guys.. it’s a privilege to listen to you do such justice to this classic Dylan song. Much respect.
I'm trying to decide if I should use this incredible cover as inspiration to become better at guitar myself, or if I should use it as a sign to quit whilst I'm ahead
If, after you've practiced hard for 10K hours, you still couldn't make a living at it if you wished to.... think about relegating music to a hobby and enjoying it to its fullest. Perhaps your real talents lie elsewhere, and with the money you could make in this other field, let's say, you could take music to a level you might never be able to, without that good income. (Just a thought.)
12 years ago I discovered you guys, I was barely 16, not sure if this would be a lasting channel, and not even suspecting your channels would turn up to be that consistently good since then. Despite having the same musical influences as you guys, it's unreal to think that in the end, I grew up with you guys, with your music. And look at us now, all grown up, all adults, or at least supposed to be. Time does fly indeed, at an alarming rate, but I don't regret the one I invested in your channel, thanks for this.
I so wonder if Mister Bobby D himself has viewed this ... I am sure if he did he would be greatly moved ... what a lovely and pure rendition of his classic. If he did, I would picture him tipping his hat with a nod a wink and a smile .. knowing that this generation has a great respect for the past and carries it into the future faithfully with passion, skill, and clarity.
I hope you feel proud to know your cover has been enjoyed by millions of people. I just stumbled upon it (11 years late) and I'm so happy to see you're still making music to this day. Best of luck, guys. This was wonderful.
This is the original key and the way Dylan played on the original recording - Key of E, w/ a capo at fret 4. These guys are good. And real. Josh is doing some flourishes of his own, but this is very close to the 50 year old version of this timeless song. Man, I've been watching Josh's videos for about an hour now and I am impressed. He seems to play all styles and adapt flawlessly to each, along with his friends who are really good, too. especially their vocals. I'd not seen these prior to earlier today. Kid can play!
Can we just take a moment to appreciate lyrics of this song? It can be only written by a poet called Bob Dylan. I love how you laugh and cry to this song at the same time.
My dad passed away last year. Dylan was his favourite. I thought I cryed all tears already. Hearing your version I have some more. You are class act :)
For two young men to sing this with such feeling, I am amazed. Thank you! "I gave her my heart, but she wanted my soul!". I didn't learn this lesson until I was decades older.
Not many performances of this song do the subject matter justice. This is not a song to roll through "a good cover". It means something. You fellas capture it just right.
How beautiful, the way kids this age have it all to give to a song. None of the weight or noise of the adult world to detract from the music or the poem.
I consider myself a strong man who can handle most things but you two just made me cry. Absolutely amazing, but then I did something I should not have I looked at the upload date. You two must have been in your mid teens. There goes my music career I am just going to listen to you two and live a happy man.
Love this comment, so true. This is my favourite cover on youtubue and of my favourite song, still. And they recorded it at 2 AM. Doesn't get any better
34 and love that good music is known by the younger generation. What a cover. You kept its integrity but made it your own. Respect and props. Maybe the future is bright
I love Carson’s sly smile towards the end. I think behind this smile is the thought and the happiness of knowing that they’ve got a really good take and that it could be THE take they use, and also he’s just really enjoying the lovely music they’re making together. Well I can say wholeheartedly that we are enjoying that music with you Carson.
Been a fan of these guys about a year now. This was the first song I ever heard from them,, such a lovely cover of perhaps the best Dylan love song I can think of. This song moves my soul. These kids make me smile to listen. Many of their covers are beyond words fantastic. Please don't stop making music and I promise not to stop listening.
Jamie Brown -- Peter, Paul, and Mary, did this song in 1964, and it was absolutely beautiful !!! Those 3 always had incredible voices and harmony! They sounded like ONE Voice... Hard to do that.. And of course, all the credit to Bob Dylan for writing these beautiful songs way back then, too !
Perfect ... absolutely perfect. Pack it up and hit the stage. If you had a concert I would buy a ticket for sure. You guys could be a modern day Everly Brothers / Simon and Garfunkel. The passion here is epic ... you guys sing and play from the soul. I am a fan. Kudos guys !
Holy cow, 12 years later. Just heard you both covering Jim Croce 4 years ago & the Bee Gees last year, with Elle & Toni. I guess the stuff you do never gets old.
First time I heard Dylan... Circa 1963. Riding with my grandad in his pickup down a back road. Blowing in the Wind came on an AM station. I knew at 5 years old that that song was more than I could understand. But I understood enough to know that it was an incredible song. I would listen for it every afternoon for a good while after that because they played the same song list everyday. I remember thinking after awhile some answers must hard to find....
Of all the covers of this masterpiece, this one is by far the best. Captures the essence of Dylan while adding your own cues. A cover that Bob himself would be proud of.
7 years later, The Other Favorites are still kicking it. Amazing how far you men have come since way back here. Love both Josh and Carson...superb talents!
Man ! I wish I was born to play, like these polished players. How cool is it to see all these awesome videos, sit-in' here with my magic, know it all light box, feeding on pure talent.
Your voices by themselves are great but when you both sing the sound waves collide and turn into a very ear pleasing totally different sound. Excellent spot on sound, you really are accomplished singers. Bob would be proud of you.
2020 and 3 million views, 9 years ago. The sound is still fantastic. We look forward to seeing you in Australia when the world is open for business again. You guys are up there with the best. Take care.

A friend of mine in Manhattan and I have been enjoying sharing our discoveries of Josh and his many musically talented friends.
Join Josh's online concert this Saturday: www.crowdcast.io/e/the-other-favorites---2.
How beautiful, the way kids this age have it all to give to a song. None of the weight or noise of the adult world to detract from the music or the poem.
Fantastic description. Articulated something that I couldn't quite place
That’s how you ought to sing a Nobel-Prize-Winning song!
When the harmonies kicked in, I actually got goose bumps !!! That was powerful !!!!
When you two harmonize, I feel it in my veins. I can't explain it any better than that.
This boy can sing. And in his style, no one else's. The pair are good. These two could go far.
Perfect....it's like going back 45 years, when Dylan came into my life...and it was with this song. Bravo.
This is possibly one of the most beautiful performances I’ve ever heard. I can’t stop listening. ❤
i keep coming back to this video. i love it.
I believe Dylan would be proud of this cover! "The light I never knowed." Those words, right there, lyrics, they hit home.
The way you bring old classic songs back to life is incredible. As Bob Dylan once said 'keep on keepin' on'.
Can I just relike it? I keep coming back every two months or so.... Best version of the song I’ve heard.
This is one of the finest gifts to be found on RUclips. Thanks for sharing your remarkable talents.
geee man, I looked at this video exactly 12 years ago, it poped on my feed GOD IDK why. So much memories....
Dylan is one of the few who can write a great song without a bridge verse. Just great poetry.
Glad to see Young people playing real songs. Lots of talent.
Outstanding, gentlemen. Thank you for this. Made my night. You have given me hope for your generation!
These young men have matured musically, but this is good at any age. Very talented. Thanks!
Maybe the future is bright
why are there actual tears in my eyes. the guitar playing is just...phenomenal
This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard
These guys are unbelievable. And this was done 7 years ago (2011).. they were kids. Super talents these two are!
Thank you and keep up the good work. Love the fact that young people are listening to Bob Dylan!
nearly a decade ago
Only 18 here, really enjoy this song so much.
I just find it fascinating kids of this age, digs and counters. God did bless music, it is the universal language.
A couple of true masters doing a wonderful rendition
Been a fan of these guys about a year now. This was the first song I ever heard from them,, such a lovely cover of perhaps the best Dylan love song I can think of. This song moves my soul. These kids make me smile to listen. Many of their covers are beyond words fantastic. Please don't stop making music and I promise not to stop listening.
that they both keep great songs alive is fantastic
Jamie Brown -- Peter, Paul, and Mary, did this song in 1964, and it was absolutely beautiful !!!
Those 3 always had incredible voices and harmony! They sounded like ONE Voice... Hard to do that..
And of course, all the credit to Bob Dylan for writing these beautiful songs way back then, too !
Magic. I stop for 5 minutes here and there to listen to your crew. Something very special going on here. Its what lifes all about. Thank you.
Whoa! Didn't anyone inform you, you can't be this good this young! Couple of old souls right here.
Perfect ... absolutely perfect.
Their age is so defying. This is AMAZING Work.
Wow. This is a stupendous cover of Dylan's classic.
The best don't think twice, it's alright cover i've heard.........EVER! This is really amazing! Carson's voice plus josh's guitar is gold!
No disrespect to Mr. Dylan, but I watched this video, then listened to the original... I’m back here to listen to this one again. Great job guys!!
You guys did honor to one of the greatest songs ever written. Outstanding!
I never tire of hearing this song............thanx
I love seeing these old videos of you and Carson. You guys were so young.
Love the harmony! Both of you guys have great voices, but together is really special.
7 years later, The Other Favorites are still kicking it. Amazing how far you men have come since way back here.
Love both Josh and Carson...superb talents!
The way he hit that note on “traveling on” was beautiful
Every time I watch this it gets better and better
Carson could go as young Buddy Holly, lol
Bob Landy I thought the same in the first time I saw him hahaha
They need to cover some Buddy Holly!
Bob Landy absolutely agree, I have one of Buddy's early albums and this guy is a dead ringer for the cover photo...
I agree too!!!!
What do you mean with "young" Buddy Holly, it's not like he died old?
Whether or not this is the best cover no cover more closely captures the sound and spirit of that original recording.
Kids like this gives me hope for the future of real talent - Peace and Love boys - Don't ever stop
2020 and 3 million views, 9 years ago. The sound is still fantastic. We look forward to seeing you in Australia when the world is open for business again. You guys are up there with the best. Take care.
