@@heavyjoechipman3594 I'm glad my words moved you in a positive direction. I wasn't expecting to do that and so, your reply comes as a nice surprise. There have been a few times when i went for a while without playing. I had a heart attack and open heart surgery right before the pandemic. I was in a coma for about six weeks while laying on my left arm. By the time I got out of the coma and into rehab, my left arm and hand had suffered a lot of nerve damage and a tremendous loss of strength. I didn't think I'd ever play the guitar again. But fortunately, little by little, it all came back. I had to rebuild my callouses and get my left hand back to normal. I'm glad I put in the effort. We guitar players form a community of like minded people and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Dude. You're ripped that acoustic!! People that don't play have no idea how tough it is to play this song on an acoustic and sound this clean doing it.
The original version of the song, released on Bob Dylan's 1967 album "John Wesley Harding" was acoustic. Though it had no lead guitar, instead it had harmonica.
@@DFDuck55 Dylan only used Am and F. Jimi added the G as a transition chord. If You listen to Jimi's original cover, the bass was a wreck, that was Jimi playing it and He had no idea of how to play bass, He said it Himself. True story. Peace to all. -Smythie

I listened to this song a hundred times played from a little battery powered turntable over in Vietnam in the central highlands when I came back off the field. I loved it every time I heard it and still think Jimmie Hendrix was an exceptional artist to create and play the hell out of his music. This artist, although not the creator of this music, is also an exceptional artist.
Hate to be “that guy”, but I swear I am doing purely from an educational standpoint. It’s actually a Bob Dylan song, although Jimi Hendrix did it substantially better, as did this gentleman. But figured I’d enlighten you, maybe you wanna check out Dylan’s version as well.
It will blow your mind to find out who wrote a LOT of songs you love. Some people borrowed things and paid out in lawsuits. Some paid to borrow or redo a song. I just found out Prince wrote ‘manic monday’ which I thought The Bangles wrote! When I was 14 years old, I actually thought Jimi Hendrix was a white guy because I had never actually seen what he looks like and was just starting to wake up to rock ‘n’ roll music lol.
@@dn2817 that’s wild. I did not know that about Prince. But you are correct, so many songs are borrowed or stolen. I know Zeppelin “borrowed” a lot of songs as well.
I saw Jimi Hendrix do this in his last trip to Seattle his home city, wearing his white leather & he smashed his electric guitar, 1st time I'd ever seen or heard of anyone doing that. I'm 70 now, this was an incredibl job Jay👍👍
I was standing right in front of Jerry at the Greek in 1987 when the Grateful Dead busted out the WatchTower. It was one of those cosmic, the DarkStar has shattered and the light of enlightenment is streaming out on all of us. There was an audible gutteral growl from Deadhead universe with the first notes before you were even sure what song it was. Then, Jerry proceeds to out rip Jimi. One of my highest life moments. The tapes never lie. Check it out. Summer solstice shows 1987 (the Jerry's back from diabetic coma year). Magic.
I really wasn't ready for this. Some executive should record and promote this. OMG what an awesome job. All the feeling he needed to do an awesome job. If you told me he wrote it I would not argue at all. And the guitar was icing on the cake. I thought i was back in time

I'm really getting into the talent so many have been giving us through RUclips. Sometimes, like this, it's almost like a new tune that just came out. Awesome talent here!
I hope that there are more renditions of other songs to come. This generation needs to see and feel what passionate soulful music is. It’s not just words rhythm bass or beat. It’s men and women musicians (muso’s) like this man who show there emotions and feelings. That give music a soul.
I'd never heard of Jay Howie before. However he has blown me away. He is amazing . Can't stop listening to him. I love his voice. And guitar playing. I'm now a big Fan! ❤
First there was Bob's own version, so intense and personal that the world surely didn't need a cover version, or did it? Then came Jimmy, his version so grand and howling no one dared cover it again for over 50 years. Now there is Jay Howlie's version. You stand toe to toe with the greats Jay- and hold your own!
I'd say different, not better, just the one that most appeals to my type of person. But I love them all. It is a song that people personality can so easily imprint upon. It fits everyone who sings it.. And hears it.... And it combines with the singers and musicians and us to put us all into the one experience. This artist does it the most fully with me. My music....
Too sing this song you need a voice like you've spend an eternity stamping bare footed on Lego... This guy has the facial expressions to go with that voice too. Epic 🤘

63 yrs old here...and Ditto!!
59 years old and all I can say is "Awesome". Where has this guy been hiding 👍
Am almost 70 & saw Jimi Hendrix in concert, this guy is unbelievably good!! 👍👍
It was so refreshing ,, My Favorite now.
Hendrix made "All Along the Watch Tower" his own to such an extent that Dylan adopted it in his own live shows. To tackle the same song and hope to achieve something equivalent is to say the least, foolhardy. But, let's be fair. You have achieved the impossible. Both Dylan and Hendrix would be deeply impressed.
it is a Dylan song.
@@lazarusdoghouse I believe he’s saying Dylan adopted some of those changes in live performances later on bc of just how well he thought Hendrix did
Yeah I didn't think a Dylan but yes he has a dylanesque..sound in his voice for sure!
*Brilliant response Alun49!*
Dylan wrote this masterpiece... Not Jimmy by the way is also a masterpiece! 😎✌
OMG. Many people play the guitar. I play the guitar. You my friend, like Jimi and very few others extract it's soul and blend it with your own. I am 69 and don't get moved often but I have tears of respect and joy and appreciation and so many other superlatives. Just WOW.
What he said!
I'm 67 years old and I've been playing guitar since i was five. I know guitar! I also know other guitar players when they are good. ...I mean TRULY good! Dude, you have impressed the absolute hell out of me with the your singing, your lead guitar playing and your excellent technique with your looper. I keep coming back to this video and watching it over and over and over again. It's just that good! I've showed this video to all the guys in my band and told them that THIS is what we need to sound like. I love this song and I love love love the cover that you've done here. And.... I've learned a lot just from watching it repeatedly.
David, your comments really resonated with me. I'm 53, have played guitar, bass, drums, and sing some most of my life. YES! This cover just blew me away. Absolutely breathtaking. But also, when I read that you have bandmates, it really stoked the fire in me to pick it back up. To get back into jamming with some other people. My best friend Rick(guitar player), who I jammed with since age 14, died 4 years ago and I allowed that death to consume me. I shut it down. Got bad off into addictions. Now that i've come through that, i'm ready to dust off my Les Paul, lol. Your comments inspired me today. Thank you David. God bless you, my brother.🎸🎶❤☺🙏👍
@@heavyjoechipman3594Hope you're still finding contentment and happiness in the original, fulfilling ways you used to.
Advice from one to another? While re-exploring, make a mindful effort to explore the new, too. I find it unnerving and a even maybe risky but seems to be the awewome unknown that keeps me from the eventual return to shit.
@@TheCassimiano Thank you dear brother!♥️🤘🎸🙂👍
I agree, right in there with you. Raised myself on Joni Mitchell and Crosby Stills and Nash. Wish we had had this kind of exposure to musicians.
Truly amazing how you can hear a song a million times, yet someone always rejuvenates it into something special.

J1M1 Hendrix meets Campfire Cowboy. I love it. Dude has creativity, style, talent, chops, heart, soul, ......

In my 80 yrs I’ve heard many good versions of this standard. However, this goes beyond most renditions! Guitar is perfect counterpoint! BRAVO!
80 years old... I hope I'm still listening I swear... That's a man song All The Way.,

Jimi's version has been my favorite song for 40+ years. Your version is outstanding.
Mutual perspective 🤟🏽
That's a fact...
Agreed. Although Richie Havens version is a work of art as well.
slipping on the slope to 70
Pure talent, some just have it. The rest of us just watch in awe.
Why isn't this mans name up in lights? To put it simply, he is GREAT!
Not a patch on Michael hedges
What I like about this is that I'm 43 and my Dad who's 70 made a point of telling me to get on RUclips and watch this (don't be harsh on him he's 70 and sharing a link is out of his scope)
Thank you for being responsible for creating something so meaningful that someone who could easily just say "Dylan did it best" or "Hendrix covered it better" or "just another cover" to feel the need to share it with his son. You've created a moment that means a lot to me. I hope that is, in some small way a compliment
Darren, this comment means the absolute world to me. I’m so glad you have found some joy in my music. That in itself means more than anything.
They all stand on their own... nice
Shepherd's Chapel Network !!!!!!! Pastor Murray is an Anointed Servant of GOD who teaches the Word of GOD with Authority!!!!!!!
I think both Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix would be humbled by this rendition.
Look at him!! Thats what Music is for!!! AMAZING AND WONDERFUL!!!🗣
EVERY TIME I WATCH YOU MAKE ME WANT TO PLAY MORE. I wish I could play like you. At 74 I think it is time to stop trying. But then I see you and back at it again.🤣
Keep on being inspired. Keep on rocking!
You didn't just play... you caught the spirit...
My little daughter (2 months old) just fell asleep while holding her in my arms and listening to you. Great music.
Damn awesome
@@DFDuck55 Dylan only used Am and F. Jimi added the G as a transition chord. If You listen to Jimi's original cover, the bass was a wreck, that was Jimi playing it and He had no idea of how to play bass, He said it Himself. True story. Peace to all. -Smythie

Fucking amazing gives me chills
Bob Dylan is a musical mystery. He is amazing at lyrics. His music touches your soul and makes you think. Only one person has ever covered this song and in my opinion did it better. That Jimmy Hendrix...... until now. This man is singing and playing from his soul. He probably needs to rest after this.
AWESOME COVER SIR. I salute you.
Agreed..... Until Bob opens his mouth. Then it's a blow fly in a bottle. Yes, saying that is enough for crucifixion . Writes a brilliant song but Bobby that voice mate. Yeah nah hahaha
What they said! Probably my favourite rendition!
Might I suggest the Dave Matthews Band cover of All Along the Watchtower. Those guys make it their own.
@@collinbaroh3487 you may suggest it. But in my opinion dave matthews is no better than a garage band. Just not my cup of tea.
@@toddskidmore7768 all good brother. We all have our styles. 🤙🏻
I heard Jimmy play this live in 67, best treatment since!
This is what happens when music is mixed with emotion and imagination. Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant.
64 years old, and that's the best cover of that song I've ever heard. Even better than Hendrix.
Seriously, he's that good!
You may be right but the thong to remember with this particular song is it is. Cover of hendrix’s version….not Dylan’s. And that is the most impressive thing about Hendrix’s cover…..it was so influencial.
@@ryandonaghy8613 Hope you didn't think I was saying Hendrix cover wasn't great, because it was. Yes thanks to Jimi the song was immortalized. But this dude just took it to a fresh new level.

Wish we could do it again…take this guy to Nashville & Hollywood… he’s very gifted…his guitar sings…sing on Bro…you’ve a great journey ahead,,.
God Bless You.
Hendrix didn't write this song either 😑
Another Bob Dylan song redone with a tasteful touch. ✌🏻
Thank you for your service. My dad is a Vietnam vet as well… 82nd airborne
I think you're remembering a movie lol
For a second I forgot this was a Jimi Hendrix song. That’s how much this guy just owned this song. Simply awesome and inspirational to watch.
@@jasonstiles7672 EVERYONE did Dylan's songs better! Good songs though.

I am so jealous you got to see him! Maybe one day I will get to Seattle to visit him!

Magic.
WHAT THE WHAT!? Excellent! At 64 years old now, you youngin's give me hope.
Thanks mate!
I've been so many times along the watchtower, beleive me this is one of the deepest lament I heard.....Hi from France.
Hello friend from the U.S.
I really wasn't ready for this. Some executive should record and promote this. OMG what an awesome job. All the feeling he needed to do an awesome job. If you told me he wrote it I would not argue at all. And the guitar was icing on the cake. I thought i was back in time
Thank you so much!!

Why? Its 60 years old?

Absolutely brilliant best version ive ever heard and that includes Dylan and Hendrix

Hendricks was the best left-handed guitar player...
