    Description:
In this video, raw food chef and author Jennifer Cornbleet introduces you to maca, raw food ingredient from the Andes and shows you how to create a creamy, frothy, chocolate-y shake from her book Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People.
Traditional milkshakes and smoothies weigh you down with a lot of sugar and dairy fat. In this how-to raw food video, Jennifer Cornbleet shows you how to make a Chocolate Maca Shake, a naturally sweet, dreamy, creamy beverage that's filled with flavor and nutrition, too.
To begin, Jennifer shares the origins of Maca, a root found in the Andes that is rich in phyto-nutrients. You'll learn about its unusual malt-y flavor and the best places to purchase this useful ingredient which is said to have the ability to elevate mood.
Next, Jennifer moves on to the star, if "secret" ingredient in this recipe...bananas. When frozen, they add all the frosty creaminess the recipe needs, making dairy products unnecessary. You'll also learn the best way to freeze bananas so that they will keep for up to a month in your freezer and be ready for you whenever you're ready for a shake.
Jennifer shows you how to get a little help from the market with store-bought hemp milk which you can also make at home in your own blender, if you prefer. Hemp milk, like almond milk, is creamy and delicious, but wonderfully cholesterol-free because it is made without any dairy.
Whether or not maca is a mood enhancer is still undecidedly, but chocolate definitely is.
Jennifer talks about different options for adding chocolate-y goodness, explaining the difference between cocoa and cacao.
The final step is to add maca, although the shake is positively delicious without it. Then, as in many of Jennifer's recipes, your blender does the rest of the work. All that's left for you to do is enjoy.
Whether or not maca can lift your spirits may be undecided, but a Chocolate Maca Shake will definitely put a smile in your tummy.

Great recipe. I'm a bit baffled by user comments asking for exact measurements. It would depend on the size and number of bananas, but it looked like 2 medium frozen bananas, 3/4 c hempseed milk, 1/4 c raw cacao powder, and 1-2 Tbsp maca powder. You would add it to taste. It's not a science. Me, I would add my own homemade raw almond milk.

I'd be using coconut milk. Hemp milk is too funky tasting for me..
