There is much 'information' on the internet about flaxseeds negative effects on Male hormones but is there any actual science to back these claims? Think us guys could use peace of mind on this please and to put a stop to all the nay sayers. Many thanks
@@PadawanLearner1970 Mate, go read a book... I can think of one or two.
NutritionFacts.org Dr. Greger, please go on the Joe rogan experience pod cast, recently James Wilks was on it defending the game changers documentary against a so-called nutrition expert and he actually did great, but you could just completely throw out any misrepresentation of the documentary.
This new format is absolutely brilliant. Beautiful, smooth, clear. There is not a single thing I'd change as a designer and past motion graphics editor. Visually those are definitely the best produced nutrition videos on RUclips, if not everywhere.
My one *itty bitty* change would be to light Dr. Greger a little better.
True!
I came here to say that I find him awfully distracting, I much prefer the old format. It was much easier to focus on the science.
@Gold Gold What he is saying in this video doesn't mesh as well with the printed studies being shone. I don't mean in substance, but in word choice, which is disconcerting when you're trying to keep up with his rapid delivery and scan the reference sections provided on screen. I prefer reading the transcripts! At least I can go to them to get clear on the content. (Transcripts available on nutritionfacts.org, for those not familiar.)
@Gold Gold The first edit was him explaining it all with his shirt off. Not sure which is better.
Dr. Greger I am an 81 year old male, the number one item on my bucket list is to get healthy before I die. Last January I was taking 13 different meds in the morning and about 6 meds at night 365 days a year.I don't take any now. My maximum weight was 333 lbs. I now weight about 220 lbs.I still have about 60 lbs of fat to loose. I consider losing the weight less important than getting rid of the meds. A few years ago I went to a lecture on the China study at Loma Linda University which started me on my journey to get seriously healthy. I had tried all kinds of programs, pills, products, and potions but it wasn't until last January that I discovered a way traverse chronic health issues. I adopted a Whole Food Plant Based Lifestyle. Eliminating all dairy, meat, salt sugar and oil 99% of the time. I haven't got to 100% yet but I've come a long way from the China Study lecture. Here is my problem, I can't get enough sleep. I have to pee about six times a night. Can you help me and others who may have the same problem?
Congratulations on your achievements so far! You will have a better chance of response if you post this in the comments section of this video on nutritionfacts.org. Dr. Greger rarely responds directly (where would he find the time?!), but there are qualified people (doctors, other medical professionals, well-versed lay persons) who may make suggestions. There's too much uninformed comment on youtube. On the website you could also search for videos and blogs on 'sleep', 'frequent urination' and such. I'm with you on waking to go to bathroom several times a night! Best wishes!

I congratulate you on starting this switch and would love for you to share your improvements with the world ie start a blog get on Instagram and chronicle your journey. Making changes like this in your age bracket is an inspiration for others. I’m not a doctor but I have read a lot and made healthier living my hobby. If I may lovingly suggest being patient with your body it has a lot to undo from many years of ingesting harsh foods and still being bombarded with toxins daily. I also want to emphasize eating is a stressor on the system, our bodies utilize 50% or more for digestion, so putting a break in there of a day or two of only ingesting liquids is the break that could help the system utilize all its energy to expel unwanted things from the body. A form of detoxing. One great tool to help is juicing, pure celery juice is one in particular that helps the body reduce inflammatory invaders in the body.
Aloha
@@giselafiege7169 Thanks for your kind words, I'll take you up on your celery juice suggestion but not the blog, if Printikin, Ornish, Campbell, Greger and McDougall and hundred others are having a difficult time getting their scientific backed facts across my story would be just more preaching to the choir. What will cause a difference, is to get rid of our current social/economic system which worked in the past but is not only outdated but is the cause of the worlds major problems and is unsustainable. We live in a finite world with finite resources and we cannot afford to continue to do what is not working and expect positive results. I would like to see Dr. Greger make sure some of his charitable donations go to these two organizations, The Zeitgeist Movement and the Venus Project. I believe if the whole food, plant based community and these two organizations hook up, it would be the tipping point for the dramatic change in making the world a better place for all of us, don't you agree?
Wow! The news about flax just keeps getting better! Started taking ground flax seed everyday 6 months ago, & I feel great. 7 years a vegan, 69 years old & no health problems to date! Thank you so much!
Hi Skip I’m just starting out as a Vegan. 95% there. Do you take vitamins or supplements? I take Nutritional Yeast with B-12 and a Multivitamin: Centrum Silver. Thanks.
@@Dhspat hey Patrick! Congrats on choosing to eat the most beneficial diet on the planet! Just make sure you stick with whole foods. The more something is processed, the worse it is for you, even if it is plant source. I take B12, D3, C, and Magnesium supplements. May you have a New year filled with abundance! 😀😀😀
I feel obliged to say "nice." Unless you've hadca birthday since making this comment
@@Pr4n4v13 yes, that was 2 years ago so I am 71 now. Dtill no health problems, no medications, work out in the gym 3 times a week, and also a Tae Kwon Do practitioner! 😀😃😄
Each morning I take two heaping tablespoons of ground flaxseeds in a glass, mixed with cinnamon, add unsweetened organic soy milk, stir, let it sit for a minute or two and then drink this delicious treat. This has been my routine now for a few years. I love it. The second part of my breakfast is fresh fruit, coffee, and Chinese green tea.
catquack Chinese green tea is very high in lead. Dr Greger recommends either to use white tea, or exclusively Japanese green tea
@@isaac_k98 I thought his conclusion from that video was that steeping Chinese green tea was fine, just don't consume the powered whole-food form (matcha) which carries with it the heavy metal contamination. I could be wrong though.

I'm not a vegan, but I learn so much and eat so much healthier because of the brilliant work of Dr Greger.

Flax Seeds = Fountain of Youth ❤️
I grind flaxseeds in my coffee bean grinder then mix them into my morning oatmeal - love it! Glad to hear all this great info about flaxseeds!
I grind mine in the nutribullet, using the small cup size, it’s so much quicker than using the coffee grinder.
Wow, this might be the best video I’ve seen on this channel so far. The visuals and editing were much clearer and the explanation and breakdown was really good.
Dr. Greger... You need some tats and piercings! Why? Because you sir... Are a Rock Star!
I was eating Flaxseeds when i saw the notification for this video xD
Yep me too in my blueberry oatmeal
Me too!! Dehydrator Apple flax cookies 😍
FANTASTIC information...thank you for doing the research and posting!!!
I love this new format, everything is perfectly explanined and shown. Please keep it like this :)
🔥 Dr. Greger is on fire. I love it 😁👍
I adore him...and have since around 2009! I went completely to plants in 2010 when my brother died of colon cancer...same disease that took our dad. I'm 62 now and feel like I'm 32! IT WORKS for me!
and he does it soo smoothly. I find him very romantic. In a Vegan way lol
OMG I love how Dr. Greger presents nutrition science like it's a review of the most spectacular, surprising and thrilling movie of the year. The new visuals are amazing!
New format looks awesome. Thank you for striving to be the best @nutritionfacts!
Excellent!!! Thank you so much for what you and your team do💖
Thank you for the clear explanation of the studies and the science
Here in Germany a 500g bag of organic flax currently costs €1.25 EUR (at DM).
Consuming 30g/day would be just *$2.06 USD per MONTH*
Where in Germany do you buy that for that kind of price? I get it for 5 eur a kg
@@Cptblogh damn that's double the price lol
Amazing! I loved your presentation. I can't thank you enough for this information.
Flax yeah! 🌱👊🏻
I've been eating flax for years and this just reinforces my thoughts on it, thanks very much.
Love the new format, great job!
Brilliant video, love the new format!
Thank you for featuring our clinical trials!
I have been watching your videos for a few years now and I love the new style! Also great information, and I would love another updated video on the best foods or herbs/spices for sports recovery if you ever have time! :)
For those of you thinking he recommended a certain amount a day on this particular video, he didn't. It's in his Daily Dozen which is only 1 tablespoon.
That said if you ever are not sure what the doc has said on any of his videos, if you go to the web page featuring the video you just watched, you can access the transcript under the video. In this case you can access the transcript here: nutritionfacts.org/video/benefits-of-flax-seeds-for-inflammation/ Here's a link to the full topic of high blood pressure: nutritionfacts.org/topics/high-blood-pressure/
In addition, you can also find his sources with links to the original research articles.
My thoughts, however, is you don't rely upon a singular means to lower blood pressure or lower cholesterol or whatever ails you, it's the totality of all that you do. All your foods, inclusion of exercise, proper sleep, hydration, and attention to your mental health be that through meditation, spiritual connections, and/or social interactions. Healthy people have an overall healthy life and that goes beyond just what you put in your mouth.
Exactly. Sure one food may help with something, but it's always best to use a variety of approaches to something!
You didn't mention sunlight, which results in the body making nitric oxide, which we know lowers blood pressure.
@@deconcoder Actually, though sunlight is good for most people in the proper time frame, nitric oxiide is a product of several things such as arginine, oxygen and the product of nitrates in vegetables. nutritionfacts.org/topics/nitric-oxide/ for a skin cancer patient or those who abused their sun privileges in their youth, they need vegetables, not UV exposure.
1 tbsp is only 7 grams and the studies seem to use 30 grams.... rather than guess, can’t we get it straight from the doctor himself? Surely, 1 tbsp is not correct....more is always better, right? Doctor?
@@deathstar168 -- His recommendation is 1 tablespoon, down from 2. It's in the Daily Dozen. I forget why he lowered it to 1 tablespoon but there are other foods that lower bp too.
Again, it's totality, not just one ore two things that you eat or do that make for the best health.
Thank you, Dr. Greger, for your great content!
As always, thanks Doc! God bless you!
Yes, flax seeds are awesome but the editing on this video... 👌 top notch!! 😉 Bravo!

Really liking the new format for the videos!
This is great news! Thank you Dr. Greger! ox
Really an excellent piece of research. One of the best he's done. Large sample size combined with a detailed explanation of the mechanics of the process. Much better than a correlation or observational study.

Just finished the new book. Read in one day. Awesome. I love you Dr Greger! You are my hero.
Great way to communicate research findings to a layman. Good job man!
I love what you have shared by all your research and books and videos and blog posts! Would you consider doing the type of book you just did on "How Not To Diet" with a book on inflammation? I think it would be a huge help. Thank you for all your work! All the best, Scott
Great video format I feel like Dr Greger is lecturing to us in a classroom now; very cool. Thanks for sharing all this research with us. I have been a fan of the Nathan Pritikin program since 1977, and Dr. Greger takes the Pritikin concept and more, to the next highest level. Great job.

I'd love for Joe Rogan to get you on his show - that would be a fun watch. I think Joe would be very receptive.
Joe Rogan isn't a doctor and has no credentials.
I M A QYN No, but Joe is a great interviewer and conversationalist... he has invited several other professionals to discuss their expertise to a wider audience who may not otherwise have come across said expert on their own. I echo narlycharley’s idea👍
I generally like Joe, but he's pretty adversarial to anything plant based. I'm also very grateful for Dr Greger, but I think his personality would be a turn off for Joe's audience especially if it's their first encounter with Greger.

Oooo! I like to see you talking Dr. G!
Wow! I’m convinced!
30 grams of milled flax seed per day. Or three tablespoons, according to cronometer.
is it true that you should ground your flaxseed, put it in the fridge, and use it within a week? I heard that when you don't do this a lot of the nutritional value goes away
@@190Michael190 i just pour them in my stew and chew them
If you don’t grind them they don’t help much. Yes they go bad quickly.
I use an old coffee grinder for spices and will grind flax seeds on an as-needed basis. I never store them in the fridge.
@@190Michael190 it's less expensive to buy the seeds and easy to grind in any cheap coffee grinder and use as needed. Dont grind them up all at once. If you buy them already ground up keep them in the fridge as they have a short shelf life and lose their nutritional value guicker. The seeds can be stored anywhere and last a long time.
Good to know!
Second time I’ve watched this video. Pity I can’t give more than one thumbs up 🙂 Thank you very much
Thanks
