    Thanks for this upload. I went to the third day; a day of unrelenting tedium. I was 15 years old and always preferred the longer forms of the game but this was a bit much. Still enjoyed for the memory of going with my dad and his friends. It was a terrific hostile performance by Holder that afternoon . Nice to see him clapped at the end of a spell ; doesn’t seem to happen now.

    This era was different....Beauty of this cricket was sportsmanship , if you were caught batsman walked without even waiting for umpire’s decision.... No too much of celebration on taking a wicket....
    Today ‘s cricket is full of drama , running around , thumping fists in air .... 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

      But this was the match where the umpire refused to take the field on the Saturday morning because his decision had been disputed the day before.

      Dicky Bird was always over rated and made quite a few mistakes towards the end of his career.

    This is wonderful! I would have been only five years old so don't remember this at the time. Shame Old didn't have the longevity of Anderson. Totally different era.

    Underwood was bowling much more slowly here than was the norm throughout his career. Interesting to see!

    The first bowling machine installed at the MCC Indoor School at Lords was nicknamed 'Chris Old' because although it was capable of bowling fast and accurately, it broke down frequently!
    What a tremendous test match career Chris Old would have had, if only he had made it on to the playing field more often in England's colours!

      By all accounts Chris Old now knocks out fish n chips in Cornwall now.

    this was the test when Kanhai disagreed with a decision by Umpire Arthur Fagg, which upset the umpire so much that Alan Oakman was obliged to stand for a couple of overs so perhaps the sportsmanship wasn't quite as painted

    Richi commentating from eternity. Who commentated when he played?

    • @david10101961
      @david10101961 2 года назад

      Alan McGilvray commentated for an eternity before Richie. And John Arlott before that. Other well known commentators of the past include Jim Maxwell, Christopher Martin Jenkins, Peter West, Norman May, Ted Dexter, Jim Laker, Trevor Bailey, Brian Johnston, Jack Bannister, E W Swanton and Fred Trueman, although Dexter, Laker, Bailey and Trueman's playing careers overlapped with Benaud's.
