I'll be honest, I'm no fan of cricket. But seeing this brings back so many memories of summer holidays from school in the 80s. My dad was self-employed so was home all kinds of odd hours, and if he was home during the day, the cricket was on. Hearing the voices of Peter West, Jim Laker and the rest, make me think of my dad.
What stands out for me even now, nearly 40 years on, is Viv Richards' stillness and poise whilst the bowlers approach the crease. That, his balance and superb reflexes were the hallmarks of his greatness.
All I can remember from that year as a 12 year-old boy was the carnage of the tests. I was more scared of the West Indies than I was of the Soviet Union by the end of the series. It was actually pretty traumatic in some ways, so it's quite therapeutic to be reminded that they didn't have it all their own way!
This man was a genius and the best batsman I have ever seen in my entire life. Viv Richards it is...forget about records, just look at the ease with which he plays, the disdainful manner with which he deals with the fast bowlers, the power he had and the reflexes unmatched.
Definitely one if not one of the greatest 1 day innings of all time. It still is way better then current day cricket. Also that last wicket partnership has still not been broken after nearly 40 years . What a master-class🙈🙉🙊
Without doubt the greatest one day innings ever played, and it will probably never be bettered because how do you compare this to the modern game with so much in the way of restricted fielding positions, super bat technology and power plays etc.? Viv was peerless.
I am going to 1984 summer great memory for my life I enjoy many year English crickets 1983 1984 1985 1886 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 Texaco trophy cornhil insurance test series puduncial world cup lords oval oldteford hedengli Birmingham
Masterful innings, Richard's in his prime " men against boys" Viv put the ball where ever he wanted. I remember it well, 106 for the 10th wicket so credit to Michael Holding too.
It's not easy to judge players from different eras, so many variables have to be taken into consideration. Let us just enjoy these players as being greats of the game.
England must be licking their lips when windows were 100/7 or something. Next thing they know score has crossed 150 /8 and ended with more than 250. One man destroyed the bowling attack single handedly. Bowlers were too good and would have defended even 169 runs, let alone 269.

Good to see Pringle offering some highlight bowling for once. He was a particularly underrated player back in those days, especially by me!
I wonder what happened to the power of the West Indies, what the are doing now is pure rubbish, Dominica with love
He got hammered in this game 🤣🤣

I think Kapil Dev's 175 n.o. on seaming pitch in 83 worldcup is equally good.
@@murali2787 Don't be ridiculous Zimbabwean bowlers are farmers !!!

Virat kohli is the best ever odi bastsman averaging above 6o and 40+ century in just 220 inings.

Philanthropis, after seeing Viv Richard's, I am sure you are joking. lol. Averages meant nothing to Viv
The music was used in Brian Lara cricket video game for Sega... 🌹
The music at the very beginning of the video. Can someone please tell me where can I find it.
Great to see David Bairstow
Bugger modern T20 with their enormobats that make tailenders look good. Viv was different class.
Talk about back in the days, when the West Indies dominated.
I was there at old Trafford the I can still remember it now they made England look like a village cricket team
Greatest batsman of all time - viv Richards second daylight. third moonlight forth sunlight. Fifth the rest
Botham v Richards is always a treat. Great rivalry, sportsmanship and friendship.
