These kids don't have to and need to talk about the emotional side of their experience, and the recovery. Sure it may add weight to the evidence already provided. But the every person's trauma process is different. Making them talk about the emotional effect can seriously mess people up.
For example I can tell you how I got bitten in my face by a dog and be very factual about it. But as soon as I start talking about the aftermath and everything that happened after that and all the scar treatments I've gotten. I still notice that there's a lot of tension in my body, I start talking faster often jumping from one point to another etc.
This was definitely a dangerous situation that I was placed in, and the owners response was beyond negligent. My biggest fear is that something similar might happen with one of their (future) animals, and it being a lot worse. My situation with this animal and the law that apply here are already complicated, and that directly effected my emotions/trauma.
Imagine what these kids have gone through, with the media, politicians etc.
