I’m a retired ER and ICU nurse. I’ve also been out on the ambulance maaaany many times. You guys were our brothers and sisters! Healthcare trauma is very real, and once I realized I’d had enough of healthcare administrators not giving a damn about us or our patients, I had to leave for my own sanity. I’m now a chef and even though I took a huge pay cut, I’m SO happy!! It makes me very proud to know this young man is giving his heart out to more victims in the way of paramedicine. May he always seek therapy and CISM, sometimes all you need is someone to listen!

Even though it's extremely hard for me to hear these things, I cry so much, I feel it's important for me to see the reality of what's happening to our country. What's the world coming to? How does this keep being allowed to happen?

Agreed, I have also spent hours watching listening and crying. I am in shock and grief for all the victims and their families and wonder how they can get beyond this, if ever. After looking at coverage of the shooter himself, it seems he really doesnt have a clue, his empty faces with no blinking, no expressions. To me it represents the absolute failure the educational system has fallen to, and I fear, also symbolizes the depth of the breach in the functioning of the nation as a whole. I am in my 70s.

I am watching this as an American living in a country in Europe. The people here don't live or think like us Americans. They shake their heads at the madness in the US and pity us as a nation. They see us as a nation that used to be great. They are shaking their heads in horror and saying thank God I don't Iive in the US. Schoolkids don't live in fear of being shot and they don't have fancy security systems. Americans like to scream "guns don't kill, people do" but honesty, all Europeans know that's just a smokescreen crap argument. The laws here are extremely stringent and its so hard to get a gun, even a hunting rifle. If you want a gun you must undergo a strict psychological examination. We live in safety because of that. There are shootings but it's an extremely rare occurrence. I've also lived in Japan, a country with little crime and almost zero gun violence outside the Japanese mafia. I have to say it's an amazing thing to live in a country with little to no gun violence. It makes you never want to live in the US again.
