- Ben Wikander, a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, described what he witnessed when Nikolas Cruz opened fire inside the school on February 14, 2018. Wikander described what happened during the shooting and how he was injured, suffering a gunshot wound to his wrist that damaged his radial nerve. Wikander said the nerve still hasn't completely grown back and he's been forced to wear a brace ever since.

This incredible young man graduated from the University of Michigan. He didn't allow that MONSTER to ruin his life. I wish him a long life full of happiness.

A monster that society is helping to immortalize. This theater should not have been televised
Cruz should have been sentenced the day after he pled guilty. The money wasted on this murderer is nauseating. We have homeless on the streets, but this guy gets millions spent on him trying to figure the best way to get rid of him for life. SMH
I could have got rid of him for only 54 cents.

While I agree that the court system in the US is largely inefficient, I'm happy this trial is being broadcasted as long and detailed as it is. It not only gives the family of the victims the choice to confront the killer, air their grievances etc, but it reminds the entire nation AND the world about how terrible this shooting was. There are too many conspiracy theorists that think several mass shootings have been staged by crisis actors. I hope this trial serves to drill into these people's heads that shootings and the victims of such deserve more respect than being labeled a hoax. It also serves as an example to anybody else contemplating such heinous acts that it is not fame and glory that await them after, but notoriety, abhorrence and national shame.

This sweet guy is an absolute hero! To survive what he did and still graduate 4 years later from college! That’s a lesson in being brave and pushing through
"Sweet guy"? Why, because he's smiling, wearing a Michigan polo, and recounting a story?
Also, what makes him a hero in your mind? It's great that he survived, but a hero is someone who goes in there like Rambo during a school shooting and incapacitates the shooter or saves lives if he's not macho enough to get down with the gunman. Women and their thoughts...

The only thing i love about these survivors testimony is that a lot of them continue their school journey... graduated from universities and have bright futures ahead. While NC gets to hear that . It makes me feel like hell yeah! You are prospering while he will rot in jail.
Doesnt change that 17 innocent kids were murdered that day. I'd say put NC on the chair and implement additional gun control legislations because that's the only way we'll be able to mitigate this problem.
Unfortunately 17 students and the others that struggled and committed suicide were robbed.. very proud of the survivors, I hope they will continue to be strong

What a strong dude.
They should pass a law that any act against the general public will have the penalty of public hanging or public stoning. Brutal death, so these scums may think about not going through with their heinous plan.
I will go for that. Makes a lot more sense than targeting law abiding gun owners.
Most of these lunatics dont care about the punishment though. What matters to them the most is causing as much harm and damage to other people and as long they can achieve that, they're not gonna care about the repercussion that follows after that.
If your being for real is that even possible? It would have too be some human rights violation
@@tddalll6740 nikolas Cruz isn’t a human, he is a monster
@@veffiesdda965 you know maybe some won’t be deterred by a harsh punishment. What we do know now is that our current laws do more to protect the criminal. Giving some one the death penalty in the USA, is like saying you have a few more decades to live humanly behind bars. Giving someone life without parole is giving them free housing and food for life at the citizens-expense. Although maybe public hanging and stoning maybe extreme, something similar may deter someone to commit such act. In ancient times they would chop off hands for stealing. That would definitely be more effective than passing them through the system in an attempt to rehab them.
I loved hearing him tell the court he graduated from college which means he must have gone into it almost immediately after the shooting. This is going to sound so stupid, but can someone please explain to me why this trial is going on for as long as it has ? The kid murdered 17 innocent people. Why can't they just sentence him, put him in jail (or under it) and throw away the key? What more is there to talk about ? They have all the evidence they need. I don't get it.
They're deciding whether he gets the death penalty or life in prison, that's all at this point.
I don’t get it either. We know he did it, he admitted it, all the victims can identify him. To make them relive this moment and to force the jurors to go into the school to see the 4 year old carnage is ridiculous to me. I don’t understand.
They’re choosing whether to have life in jail or the death penalty. The survivors are testifying why he should receive the death penalty, especially because in jail he can still receive an education which he took from many students.

What this has brought to light for me is how easily they can find people that they put effort into finding, definitely makes you think
It is long overdue that we recognize prayers aren't fixing this. How many more destroyed families do we have to listen to before we admit it's too easy for people who shouldn't have guns to get guns?
Democrats: "Let's make more gun laws so criminals can't shoot people!"
Criminals: *break those laws too and shoot people*
Democrats: *surprised Pikachu face*
Just like in that mall incident that isn't mainstream news, one good guy with a gun will stop a bad guy with a gun easily. 10 shots, 7 hits, and threat was neutralized in under 2 minutes of the onset.
Stop trying to take guns away from people who use them for the right reasons.
When have prayers fixed anything? It's not like I can pray for something to happen and then God will magically appear and take care of business. If that were the case, the last woman who slighted me would be in some serious trouble right now.
Banning guns isn't going to save lifes when knifes still exist and crazy people still exists the way they attack will just change if anything you'll make them get more creative which is not something want.
@@Zenigundam They've never fixed anything, that's the point I was trying to make. It angers me that after every tragedy like this, all that gets offered are thoughts and prayers, when what we need is sensible gun legislation and better healthcare. Mental health included.

NC is a savage. He needs never get out. The only value he brings is the study of malformed individual.
His life is crushed by a ”mood swing”……….
Aww, he (Ben) seems like a sweet kid.
*I'm curious as to why they keep objecting to what the victims are saying or the question the DA is asking the victims? Why do they need to object to that? Can anyone explain why?*
I wondered the same. I think they are objecting to the jury seeing similar evidence over and over. My thought - he killed 17 people, they must all be presented to show the magnitude of his crime.
i would think they are doing it to cover their bases so it’s harder for him to have reason to be able to appeal the end decision
It's regular protocol, their basis being that a/any piece of evidence might bias the jury against the defendant. If they didn't object NC could file a motion for a mistrial because he was misrepresented by his attorneys or did not provide an adequate defense. Like I said, it's routine and common.
This young man is 1000x the man NC will ever be.
Shall this guy has accomplished a lot in spite of the trauma and nerve damage have a full recovery and successful in whatever he does. All blessings. I hate everything bad that happens to my fellow human beings. Yeah, I've made mistakes before, but I always do want to deviate away from anything that might harm someone. My heart goes out to the victims and the families of them. There was no reason for him to do what he did. Many years ago, I found out something good about myself. Maybe it's embarrassing that it happened, but something good came out of it: I could never shoot a person. I love people, and I always want to help people.I want to say God Bless You to all of you. Monsters like him are the worst of the worst of the worst. They can kill us and not even feel guilty about it. I think the bad stuff that we already endure is too horrible, and, to add to that, there are people like Nikolas who are in our world? They don't care about anyone but themselves. That sucks!
Broken families. Mother. On drugs. Where is the stepfather?
Are they just letting every person in the school testify or something? This is stupid.
The sentence should be announced in a short and sweet manner. These court hearings are both harmful for the victims and society….not very necessary in this case to hear the elongated details of this tragedy!
Agree! I feel so bad for the families but honestly cannot imagine sitting through all of this no matter who I was ugh 😑 horrible I get they want him to suffer but I don’t think at this point that’s a possibility considering how numb he seems! 🤦♀️
Court hearings are harmful to society?
@Boston Gal That sounds like a giant blanket statement. Without us talking to every single parent attending this hearing to gather their thoughts, we have absolutely no idea how harmful or not these hearings are. But if i had to guess, reliving the moments in detail of how their sons or daughters were nearly murdered during school might bring up some pretty troubling thoughts that could harm anyone’s mental well-being. Not saying a hearing is not needed, but telling someone they have no idea what they’re talking about when you don’t either, and neither do I or anyone else except the parents or survivors, is a bit out there.
It is to show the jury what a cruel, evil monster Cruz is so they give him the death sentence not just hanging out in a prison cell. I know. I worked at a prison for many years. Most murderers/lifers have it pretty nice!!
