  • Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz faces a possible death sentence for killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Teacher Ronit Reoven testified during Cruz's sentencing, telling jurors about what happened inside her classroom when Cruz approached the door and opened fire. Reoven immediately after the shooting began trying to help the injured students, including creating a tourniquet for one student who had gunshot wounds.

I think he deserves the death penalty... I think he has zero remorse for what he has done. It also infuriates me watching him doodle and never look up at all anytime any family member ; survivor ; anyone speaks... he has zero regard for what his actions have done and how they have effected the people around him... I dont think it's fair that the people of the US especially the families of those lost ; or survivors should have to pay taxes into taking care of this little monster for everyday of the rest of his life... their money helping supply gin with 3 meals a day and a mattress to lay his head on. He wants life in prison and I dont think he should get one single thing he wants.
      No comfort.
      No peace.
      No sympathy.
As he gave none of that to the CHILDREN he callously gunned down without batting an eye.
Him being gone will not bring back all that are lost.... but him being gone will give the families some sort of sense of justice being served.
If anyone deserves the death penalty its HIM.
Why should tax payers have to fit the bill for him to live?
Why should guards have to take care of him when he continues to attack them? Hes a ticking time bomb even now... reaching for the weapon of a guard while fighting him?
      Like come on.
Prison is for rehabilitation... and this person cannot be rehabilitated so housing him til his death of whatever he dies from is just a burden on the tax payers.
RIP to all these poor kids.
Prayers To all their families having to deal with the everyday grief of never getting to see their teenagers grow up and see what became of them...
Prayers for those dealing with injuries and pain for the rest of their lives - both physically and psychologically...

I was class of 2011. Ms. Ronit Reoven was my world geography teacher in 9th grade, and she has always been a caring sweet teacher who cared for her students. It pains me she had to go through this experience as anyone else has, having to be so strong and implementing these survival methods in a classroom that should be full of social studies decor, bright windows, and clean desks with no bloodshed. She is very strong to return to MSD for her students. The entire community in my hometown has been impacted by this situation, and all of the teachers who have gone back to teach again deserve serious raises, mental support for free, and all the love and respect in the world. It is a rough space to feel safe in these days. Teaching is so undervalued these days.

Note: NEVER give water to a trauma victim who starts begging for water.
I'm not criticizing the teacher for her in-the-moment actions. She did the best she could in a chaotic and overwhelming situation. I'm using her mistake as a "teachable moment".
The body of a trauma victim diverts blood away from organ systems that aren't essential for "flight or fight". This includes the digestive system. As the adrenaline starts to wear off and shock sets in, the patient can develop dry mouth and a desire to drink. However, if there is blood loss giving them water is among the worse things you can do. The body is running on an "emergency mode" conserving blood for vital systems. Putting water in the stomach reactivates the digestive system, diverting blood into the stomach. There are 3 problems with this. First, the body may not have enough blood to run the heart, lungs, brain, and the stomach. The first 3 are critical, the stomach is not, so sending blood to the stomach can kill the patient. Second, if there is an injury to the digestive system, activating that system will cause increased blood loss through that injury. The patient will bleed out faster, or bleed in faster from internal bleeding. Third, the patient might vomit the water and aspirate during the emergency surgery that, hopefully, will soon follow. (That's why they only give you ice chips while you are waiting for surgery.)
Teacher first aid usually only covers a basic CPR course. My training is more extensive because I took advanced First Aid for a PE credit.
I highly recommend first aid courses. The American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and most colleges, hospitals, life guard organizations, scouting groups, and county/city health departments host or provide such training, or would be glad to refer you to a trainer.

SUBJECTING STUDENTS,TEACHERS PLUS PARENTS TO THE HORROR THAT TOOK PLACE THAT DAY???? Cruz deserves the death sentence. But it would be better to lock him up in solitary confinement for the rest of his life, so it can eat him up what he did. He's 23, at least he's going to sit there for 40years with nothing but 4 walls. And his sick mind replaying all of what I'm hearing and seeing . He'll commit suicide before the 40 years are up. If they give him the death penalty, he has 10years of appeal, after appeal, after appeal, putting these poor people through this night mare again. Discusting.

for me one of the most scariest part of all these testimonies, is that almost all of them never questioned what they were hearing when the shooting started. No one tries to go out and check, no one thinks its some prank or whatever. Almost all of them knew immediately what they were facing. On one side it's great though that due to all of those lockdown drills they kind knew how to recognize what's going on, but it's also scary because it shows what world our kids are growing up in...

I've watched many many interrogations and behavior studies, and am always amazed at how much can be learned about a person, just by behavior alone. This poor woman is reliving each moment during her testimony. She doesn't look up at the prosecutor, she looks down, accessing her memory. She uses gestures when describing her reactions, as if she's in her classroom at that moment, pointing out where people and objects were that day. She's a true hero. I've seen an interview with Maddie and she said that if she had been laid flat, she would've bled out due to the way she was injured. She saved lives that day by her quick thinking, and her critical thinking. But I'm sure the 3 students that were injured, and Carmen's death are the images she can't erase in her mind. The fact that she returned to her school, to continue to teach her kids shows her strength and her determination to prevent the monster that caused this carnage from winning. God bless this beautiful woman, and God bless the families of those lost and injured! 💙
