- Nikolas Cruz is facing a possible death sentence for killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018. During Cruz's sentencing, a number of medical examiners were called to describe the injuries on the victims. Dr. Iouri Boiko testified that a couple of the victims that he examined had defensive wounds on their hands, indicating that they tried to put their hands up to protect themselves when they were shot and killed.

I used to work for a forensic pathologist. He is now semi retired and he did 20.000+ post mortems. He even worked on 9/11 and all over the world.
For more than 2 decades he thought he was able to handle the psychological effects of his job but one night when he and his wife decided to drink a gin tonic and he threw a couple of ice cubes in the glasses and he shattered. He couldn't work for months from that night. It reminded him the Bali bombing where he also worked and since there were no other option to cool the dead bodies they were placed on ice cubes.. Stress is accumulative.

He probably speaks his native language more often than English if he has family and friends in the u.s that speak it but I guarantee you that this man has more knowledge about the english language than the average american. Regardless, you wouldnt go around telling people from states like New Jersey, Boston, Louisiana or even the United Kingdom to speak english with no accent whatsoever.
Regardless of all the torment, mourning, and sadness , the victims families still managed to find a small time to chuckle about the little ringtone going off. 9:30 it was nice seeing them smile. It’s so hard watching these families go through this.

They always doodle in court. Jodi Arias, Ashley Mcarthur, Grant Amato...they all do because their lawyers tell them to occupy themselves instead of looking readable in the face. So they get a fair trial. Jodi makes actual art and people wondered if she was in there making some so she can sell it on her website for $600.00 a piece.

Im just going to say in general, everyone please STOP using the shooters name, that just gives him more of what he wants. Just refer to him as “Parkland psychopath.” The more anyone uses HIS NAME, the more power he holds. Say the names of the Victims, NOT HIS.
I wish the coverage would do the same, don’t put his name at the bottom of the screen, just use “parkland psychopath.” I just love thinking about how angry he’ll be once HE KNOWS EVERYONE is going to completely forget his name, and instead remember those of whom he shot instead.

You know how I feel about sentencing? Someone should pretend to cozy up to him, find out what his real preference is as far as to whether he would like the death penalty or life in prison…. Then when they find out which one HE WANTS, sentence him to the opposite. That’s what you get when you take truly innocent lives at complete random.

They had been instructed to give their impact statements to the jury. They were instructed not to talk to Cruz directly as that would be prejudicial towards him.

Just by looking at his face at the end, I would imagine autopsies on children are the hardest to bear. I mean they're all professionals of course, but seeing a child and having to open them to determine cause of death after they have been murdered must be so much more gut wrenching.

I won’t link it but there is a timeline video made from the snapchats of the students. It shows several of these victims. No shooting, but it really is sad the jury doesn’t get to see that. Cruz should be put to death. He’s caused so much pain.

These Families have been through alot in the past 4 years. It's so heartbreaking that they have to sit and, listen to all the witnesses, medical Examiner's, ect. It's like they are re living the nightmare all over again. I pray for them to have some kind of peace after all this is over. 🙏🙏🙏

This case has bothered me to no end. To the mom and sister my heart breaks 💔 I loved that confident sister who as she stepped down from the podium gave Cruz the stare of disdain. I wanted a different outcome at the end but our system is very flawed. Pls keep you and your family close God bless.

it truly shows that this perpetrator has no remorse or regard for what he truly did. he just sits there, head down, drawing, ignoring what is actually being said. he doesn’t care the damage he has done, and he doesn’t want to listen to people talk about how wrong what he did is. this generation plagued by these school shooters is terrifying.

@@hollyjacobs7477 honestly that would be best for any mass shooter. just give the grieving families loaded AR15s, or whatever weapon the shooter used, and let them have at it. Bringing back firing squads instead of lethal injection would be fair in cases like these.
In light of the reason he is there, I think NC's wearing of a mask must seem particularly ironic. And painful. Goddess forbid he might catch a virus. In some strange way, I feel I'm supporting the parents and remembering the victims in watching these proceedings. And if it's 'hard sometimes' to do so? Good. It ought be.
I think the coward has it on to make himself seem smaller (less visible)…along with looking down and covering his ears. Kind of like a small child who closes his/her eyes and feel invisible. I hope he pays the price by the hands of his new “friends” as soon as he’s sentenced!
He apparently addressed the Jury earlier and took it off in an "emotional display" Probably trying to humanize himself
I'm curious as to what kind of defense Cruz and his attorneys will present. Something like, "I'm so sorry I did it. I just want to live so I can spend the rest of my life helping people and doing good deeds. Please forgive me". Yeah sure. At that point I would simply add, "Would you like a blindfold. O.K. Ready, Aim, Fire. And when he falls, put the stethoscope to him. Then drop him in the coffin. Unmarked grave. Bye."
I also watch these as some kind of attempt at solidarity with the victims families. I wish I knew what else we could do for them.
@@AtonalApple , I understand. Even additional actions one might take, such as victim advocacy, education on firearm safety or teaching preschoolers to Run! Hide! Fight!, seem but a pebble on the tracks of a runaway train. I will never reconcile the disproportionate amount of regulations for hunting game (seasonal permits, types of weapons allowed based on targeted species, fines, limits on # can kill, ETC.), vs those that exist when the prey are people. :(

I have a niece and nephew the same ages as the Uvalde babies and it makes me sick to my stomach that someone could take such innocent lives in both situations. The fact the jurors were able to walk through the persevered Parkland crime scene and didn’t choose the death penalty will forever haunt me, I couldn’t imagine how the parents and family of the victims feel.
@@cintroffmy daughter was the same age as the Uvalde victims, and I was in the hospital from surgery, seeing it on tv, it made my anxiety go sky high because I couldn’t get home to my daughter.

This is just awful for everyone. My heart goes out to the family and for the victims. I feel bad for the doctor as well who looks at death for a living but seeing children like this is a different level.

Many Parents feel they have to be there for their child. They need to know what they went through and want their child to know they will always be there good or bad… this is as bad as it gets but this is their way of being their for their baby !!

I think they should have had a line diagram of a generic body & used a Pointer Stick & generic body diagram & made presentation of how the bullets traveled....showing the organs they damaged on this journey. Much easier & less redundant questions.

Yes. They have to convince the jury that he is 100% guilty for this. You have to take into consideration that some of these jurors didn’t know about this case prior to being subpoenaed, there they need to know exactly what this boy did to send him off or allow the state to end his life. I hope they do.

No way. If they do that, they give the criminal the chance to claim ineffective counsel and a mistrial and again delay the whole thing by four years and then again do this from scratch. They are obligated to present “mitigating factors”. I think they will present the fact that this lunatic was a crack baby and has some brain damage. He’s not getting away anyway but, by law, everyone is entitled to an attorney in the US

They see everything. All the graphic pictures, all the videos, testimonies or whatever else the judge allows.

This is a highly watched trial. They are trying to get the American people emotional (naturally happens). Part of an evil government wants to get rid of the 2A. Easier to do when the people are emotional. RIP.
Unfortunately, the people who make the laws likely need to see the pain being experienced by the families before they will actually pass any laws that might prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future. The parents and other family members are essentially representing their children/relatives in court so that it is harder for those in power to think of these victims as just numbers/statistics. Part of honouring their children is showing the court, the law makers and the world how devastating it is to lose them in such a horrific and completely senseless manner. I hope and pray that the right people see the pain on these family members' faces and are motivated to actually do something to prevent other families from having to experience such tragic loss.

It's because paper noise has high-mid/high frequencies, which are more audibly noticeable to human ear & picked up more easily by microphones than the low-mid/mid-range frequencies in which voices usually are. Not much that can be done about it

I really don’t understand why all these disturbing facts and information is required for a trial where a defendant is 100% guilty. It must be totally devastating and traumatic for the families of the victims. I really feel for these people and what they have had to endure, especially when the evil perpetrator is sitting in the same courtroom as them.
Because they're fighting for the death penalty. The jurors have to hear the facts to decide if he got life or death.
It's a deliberate tactic by the Prosecution to maximize the "impact" of the crime (in a legal sense). I definitely agree with you that I feel for the parents enduring this. Some of them chose to stay home to avoid outbursts etc. and you can tell at the end, that the parents (at least those present) were extremely thankful to the Prosecution team. It sucks, but there are reasons.

this trial isn't to see whether he'll go to jail or go free, it's the penalty phase, he's plead guilty so an impartial jury needs to decide whether he gets put to death or life in prison. he's not getting a second chance out on the streets.

Justice needs to be served here. I get that he had a hard life. Actually there are those that have had even harder lives. But he chose to kill 17 people. It wasn't a quick decision. Two shots (lethal injection) is too merciful for what he's done. Hell- when we take our pets to the vet at the end of their precious life basically they are given a "lethal injection".
