This is because they are both a solvent that evaporates quickly. Nail polish remover is Acetone and the alcohol is Isopropyl Alcohol. Don't listen to that fool saying it gets away all around the controller because, no, no it doesn't.!
If you're keen on opening your controller (like you don't have any warranty that'll be gone) I'd suggest looking for a video where you open your controller, this should always work perfectly also did you repeat the process, as he said?

I was stupid and spilled some of my drink all over the buttons on BOTH of my controllers and I thought that I would have to spend way too much money to replace them, since some of the buttons weren't even pressable anymore. I tried this with hydrogen peroxide instead of alcohol and it worked like a charm!
