  • Six solutions for resolving problems with the ABXY buttons on an XBOX Elite Series 2 gamepad. Many involve cleaning from the outside, but also taking the controller apart and cleaning/inspecting on the inside. I also show how to properly test the controller, and I show how to put things back together if needed.

Spilled soda almost exclusively on my ABXY buttons. Imagine my anger when I find out it's pretty much the most difficult component to reach. Very annoying that its buried under literally everything. Despite that, your tutorial helped me fix my controller without damaging anything! Actually, it works better now than it did before I spilled soda. I used a little mechanical keyboard switch lube to dampen/smooth the shoulders and triggers. I recommend it to anyone reading this.

Best tutorial for disassembly, lots of missing steps in other videos. I also added a small square of electrical tape under A button that had inconsistent presses, not an easy job overall good luck!

Nice job 👍 But I would like to add something _extremely_ important that is easily overlooked.
If anyone is having continuous problems with buttons sticking. The rubber pad can be misaligned very easily, this can be avoided by using the screw hole beside the “B” button to center.

You must be referring to the two U.FL connectors, which look like a circle with a dot in the middle. Yeah those are antenna leads for the WiFi & Bluetooth card in the controller, and can be a pain, just make sure you line it up right before pressing them down, then after you’ve connected them, push the wires down into the channels

Hmmm ok... on the hardware tester website for testing the controller, only the thumbsticks and the left&right triggers show up as responding, all the other buttons don't show anything on the site, no response at all. wtf?

Best fix is to keep leaving bad reviews until they fix it or just buy the duelsense edge which is much better.

I used my Elite Series 1 for about 6 years before I drove it into the ground. I stopped and upgraded to series 2 when the left stick click no longer clicked (still worked though, just have no tactile feedback) and the rubber grips peeled off. Never had any other issues.
I've been through 6 different Elite Series 2's, buying 3 of them and sending them in for warranty twice each.
The QC is so, so much worse on the series 2. Would go back to a series 1 if they still existed.

@@davidn4956 and the hilarious part about it, my original Xbox controllers still work flawlessly more than 20 years later. Ever since Xbox 360 Microsoft dug DEEP into the planned obsolescence strategy. They quite literally design the controllers to fall apart in hopes that you pay for for a new one or for your current one to be repaired.
Exactly the reason why I've been shoplifting Xbox controllers since 2019, never spending a dime on them again

wow the last part is probs what is wrong with my elite series 2. I had 2 of these controllers. My first one had issues with the rb bumper not working (because I mainly used it to shoot my gun rather than throw a grenade in warzone) and stick drift. The second one got bad stick drift which I remedied with contact cleaner wd40. After a year or so, the paddle slot on the back recently broke so the paddle does not fit snug anymore; therefore, it does not register the paddle input half the time. Then I had to switch back to the first controller. It worked after I sprayed some wd40 contact cleaner on it. Then a day in the controller began to reset to the default profile mid gun fights. Now the controller will not register face button presses except for the b button. I will have to buy a new core elite controller I suppose. I want to try a ps5 controller but it is not compatible to customize on pc... oh well. The core elite is a little over 100 bucks and I believe the series 3 will not be out for another year or 2.

Time for a replacement on the button motherboard and avoid abusing your buttons next time if you get a whole new controller. People always eat and smash their buttons when they’re pissed off. The buttons always respond with a light tap. It’s your internet that delays when you press something.

    • @jarodbeasley
      @jarodbeasley 2 месяца назад +4

Full offense intended, but a controller at this price point should be designed for abuse, wear/tear, and long term reliability. It’s not like Microsoft is adding some revolutionary capability here. It’s just a few buttons added to the back. So a lot of that extra expense should go towards higher quality design/components. You’re not wrong; being easy on the controller will make it last longer. But your first reaction shouldn’t be to blame the consumer, especially when you're blaming them for not pressing a button gingerly enough, and when considering that “pressing buttons” is the primary way to operate a controller.

Word of warning, Elite controllers are designed to NOT be opened. You will almost definitely break either the faceplate or the analog sticks during removal. Do not attempt it.

@@HowToX If Microsoft intended their Elites to be easily repairable then they wouldn't have made them so difficult to open. Don't know why you're advocating otherwise, tbh. Of course anyone can attempt to open their Elite, but saying that "anyone can do it" is foolhardy. Even people with experience in repairing controllers say opening Elites is more trouble than it's worth.

I call bullsh*t, yesterday opened one using only a small screwdriver, i spilled some cola on it so the buttons were not pushing back and getting sticky. Got everything out, cleaned the buttons and the plastic and put everything together. Was a bit tricky to do it the way to not have to use a solder when putting it together but overall full clean took me around 30min. Never in my life ive opened a controller before, also has nothing to do with electronics and hardware. One RUclips video plus a calm approach and anyone can do it no problem.
