I have to say I was skeptical as to whether this fix would work. I had the necessary tools from when I fixed a stick drift issue and so decided to give it a go on the RB button which wasn’t registering lighter taps, where LB would work with the same force. In my case, the plastic that contacts the button didn’t appear worn at all. I used a small piece of adhesive address label just to decrease the gap between plastic and button slightly and it has worked perfectly as a fix so far. The button still even has that satisfying click feel when pressed. Thanks for sharing this solution!
Can I do the same process but instead of decreasing the gap between the plastic and the button, you are increasing the gap between the plastic and the button?
@@BobRoss-wm3lc it did work for quite a while but I don’t use that controller anymore. It developed an issue with stick drift and I discarded it entirely. I removed it, and super glued it back on to fix my issue! Thanks for the guide on opening up the controller!
definitely putting this in a playlist for later, right now the blowing method works, but f that stops then i’ll for sure use this method, as my controller is a bundle exclusive and i want to do everything to protect it
I've got this issue right now and I've performed some pretty serious surgeries on my controllers in the past, so I'm not shy about opening the housing, but I should say that this problem can properly be fixed with electrical contact cleaner. The switch is only registering intermittently, and most often with deep presses, it's because there's dirt in the switch interrupting the connection. Get compressed electrical contact cleaner, or standard isopropyl alcohol should work in a pinch, and spray directly into the switch. Rapidly press the switch repeatedly for a minute or so. Allow to dry. No mod necessary.
@@TafaraMolife I believe it's mostly isopropyl alcohol, or at least smells indistinguishable from it, but it comes in a pressurized can that can spray it into hard to reach places, like into the thumbstick switch mechanism found inside controllers. And this should work in practically every instance of joystick drift as long as no physical damage had been done to the switch mechanism, patient care of your controllers and you're getting drift then this will almost always take care of it. You can try like dripping isopropyl alcohol into the mechanism you might have to do it repeatedly a few times actually get it in there and working and allow it more time to dry. If you go that route you'll want to use the highest purity you can find, the lower the purity the more water there will be in the water will linger much longer than the alcohol inside the switch which could cause electrical shorts which could damage the circuit board
Glad I found this so quickly in the comments. Just dumped some alchohol-ish cleaning solution over the switch a few times, blew inside it and did the rapid tapping. Fixed it. Thanks
Another tip that can help. Sometimes the switch the plastic presses on can sack down a little. Fold a strip of cardboard and use a size that barely fits in the gap so the cardboard pushes up the switch closer to the plastic that is supposed to press it.

This is a possible solution to the problem however the issue (in this video) is actually a dirty switch. You prove it by showing that one of the switched only seem to work with deep pressing it even without the plastic part. I’ll make a video later on. Anyways THIS WORKS!
lmfao, I just realized that I fixed my controller already years ago the exact same way. I had in my mind "wait, didn't you already fix this problem in the past?" but I wasn't sure. Now my bumper on new controller is not working again and I searched for a solution. And bam there it is, you bring me my memory back 😂 Thanks a lot! Edit: And yes, the fix worked for years and even longer than the controller itself. On my old controller the fix is still working but the controller itself had to be replaced after such a long time of usage.
This video will give thousands of people the confidence to do this. Well done, Sir. Like Geralt of Rivia, you are a true friend of Hugh Manatee (whoever that is)
I opened up mine and found that the piece that you put tape over had completely broken, all I did was open up my old controller that had working bumpers and switched them and I was ready to go
This worked, thanks. 2 strips of electrical tape exactly. I already owned a security torx screwdriver from when I changed my analog sticks to metal ones 😁.
Thank YOU DUDE. The Tape took a few attempts before actually getting used to, but with the right positioning, the tape method works about 98% of the time!
Bro... You legit saved me from a crisis of returning my Xbox controller, to get a refund. So I bought this used Xbox one controller, just like yours except black. And the art button would only work when pressed really really hard, and after seeing your method and your way of putting that sticker. I did the exact same thing, and all I have to say is, you saved me a lot of trouble. Why? Controllers nowadays are super duper expensive, 50 to $60 for a controller, or for an Xbox elite controller would lead up to $100 or more. I bought this controller for $20, luckily it came in its original box, with the cable, and the back cover. Overall man, after seeing this video, you saved me man, you saved me. Thank you man, I'm glad I came across this video before actually returning it. I was able to successfully open the controller to do exactly just that, and was able to test it out later on. Everything now works perfectly.
Soooo how are you supposed to take out the battery pack of the xbox elite s2 😂😂 I'm on my 2nd one the 1st one had a bad lb now my rb on my 2nd one is broken and I never slam my controller or nothing
I had the opposite problem. The switch was registering as always being pressed. It appears to have been that black plastic bar right above the switch holding it in. Wedging a thin plastic tool very VERY gently between the bar and the body of the switch seemed to relieve the pressure on the button. This video however still gave me a good look at how to open the controller and get at the shoulder buttons. Good vid.
I have the same issue, my LB button triggers on release or when I touch it VERY gently. It's impossible to play games with. I hoped there would be a software fix that could configure the sensitivity ...
The lever on my RB that depresses the button was broken, so each press didn’t actually press the button. Some super glue on the cracked arm and an added piece of tape like you said to the end that presses the button and it now works better and smoother than before. Many thanks, many many thanks!! Side note: my LB, RB and Xbox button cover were attached slightly different. They come off independent of one another. Same method if you come across this, always use EXTREME CARE when handling this level of plastic, breaks easy. Good luck!!
Turna out my RB button tip has cracked and it almost came off when I touched it. So I just super glued it back instead of adding some tapes, and now it's clicky again. I may as well need to order a replacement strip soon as I don't know how long the super glue can hold it in position But many thanks for explaining the mechanics so clearly!!! Saved me a lot of time and money to figure out if I can fix it ❤
Oh man! I'v got a new controller recently and even didn't think that it would be so unexpected problem. I guess after nier automata this broke due to pressing too much hard this button. I couldn't imagine that I can break this controller that way. So thank you for solving this problem. Now I know what to do.

lmfao, I just realized that I fixed my controller already years ago the exact same way. I had in my mind "wait, didn't you already fix this problem in the past?" but I wasn't sure. Now my bumper on new controller is not working again and I searched for a solution. And bam there it is, you bring me my memory back 😂
Thanks a lot!
Edit: And yes, the fix worked for years and even longer than the controller itself. On my old controller the fix is still working but the controller itself had to be replaced after such a long time of usage.
Absolutely worked on my right bumper. Really did wonders. Thanks a lot
This video will give thousands of people the confidence to do this. Well done, Sir.
Like Geralt of Rivia, you are a true friend of Hugh Manatee (whoever that is)
I opened up mine and found that the piece that you put tape over had completely broken, all I did was open up my old controller that had working bumpers and switched them and I was ready to go
You’re a genius. It’s logical thinking and i was able to fix my controller. Saved me $50 bucks to buy a new one!
This worked, thanks. 2 strips of electrical tape exactly. I already owned a security torx screwdriver from when I changed my analog sticks to metal ones 😁.
You controlldr still working with the tape?
@@JoseSanchez-wr7xh Fix gave out maybe about a month ago.
@@ubermesch4456 so it lasted a good 6 months?
Thank YOU DUDE. The Tape took a few attempts before actually getting used to, but with the right positioning, the tape method works about 98% of the time!
THANKS SO MUCH, you just gained a sub and made my day! :)
Soooo how are you supposed to take out the battery pack of the xbox elite s2 😂😂 I'm on my 2nd one the 1st one had a bad lb now my rb on my 2nd one is broken and I never slam my controller or nothing
fr this is annoying
I was so sad my new control wasn’t working. You mentioned the blowing method and I gave it a try. Immediately worked. THANK YOU!!!🎉
Blowing worked for a lol but the it stopped working again
Same
Where did he talk about blowing

@@dq8262 thanks
Yoo ur a life saver man I couldn't switch guns in fortnite and I did it bro thanks ❤
I blew it worked lol 😂
Hahaaa yes thats the first thing one should try
Thanks for the video, we just saved a lot of money, didn't need the tape, just some isopropanol inside the button did the trick!
Wait how did you do that
PLs respond
I'm scared to try this
BROOOO!!!!! My 20 year anniversary controller is working now! Thank you!!!
The blowing actually worked, it didn’t at first then like 2 mins later it’s completely fine, idk what kinda wizardry that is but I’m impressed
Thank you the blowing thing made it work instantly must have been filled with dust or something thank a lot man
I had the opposite problem.
I may as well need to order a replacement strip soon as I don't know how long the super glue can hold it in position
But many thanks for explaining the mechanics so clearly!!! Saved me a lot of time and money to figure out if I can fix it
❤
When I open my controller up the pin on the lb was snapped so I super glued it back on and it worked a treat! Great video btw
Oh man! I'v got a new controller recently and even didn't think that it would be so unexpected problem. I guess after nier automata this broke due to pressing too much hard this button. I couldn't imagine that I can break this controller that way. So thank you for solving this problem. Now I know what to do.
Bruh I blew air into it and it worked 🤣but I’ll still give you the watch time you deserve my good man 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
imma be 100% honest here, ive been having issues with destiny not registering my melee but this helped completely, this will forever be saved to my playlist, rock on
my right toggle was not working. I did the blow method and it worked. Thank you. You save me from getting another controller!
Oh my god, i was suffering with my controller for months, and when i tried the blowing solution, it work again like new. Thanks man
I’ve never heard of the blowing method but somehow that did the trick😂 appreciate the video!
My dude, you just saved us $50-65, maybe a few times over. Blessings to you!
PHEW! Thank god, I blew into it and now it works again, just what I was looking for, thank you so much mate 👍😊😊
Thank you sooo much for this video. Once you mentioned the blowing part, it magically started working.
Thank you EVER so much. I have bought controllers 1 or 2 times a year because of this and now I have 6 that I can repair and should never have to buy another.....except when I get the Series X....if ever. Thanks again!!!
I was able to repair 3 Controller - thank you from the bottom of my heart!
This is a great example of an awesome tutorial. Bravo dude
