To simply not void warranty heat back stick with a hairdryer and peel it down . When done heat back up peel it back . Bam no poking holes . No different than removing stickers on things .
I have a Power-A brand wired Xbox One controller for Xbox/PC. The left thumb stick isn't sticked or anything, it's just loose. It's a relatively new controller, and it's been knocked off my chair or bed (a 1 and a half to 2-foot drop at most). When I rest my thumb on the thumb stick, I can easily wiggle it around, causing slight input in some directions. When I apply pressure and move the stick along the upper right quadrant, I have increased resistance and a squeaking noise. Is this something that opening the controller can fix or is the stick broken? I am a little afraid to open it up if I don't need to, since I fear breaking some other part of the controller.
I hear ya! I was worried as well to open it up. But I’d recommend doing it and seeing what’s going on. It sounds like it might be broken a little bit or there could just be something in their hindering it from moving correctly. Open it up and see. Let me know what you find.
@@TryThisDIYFix So I popped it open, which the PowerA controller was surprisingly easy with only 8 screws to open it and then 2 screws (1 by each thumbstick) remove the control board with rumble and sticks fully attached. I plucked the left thumbstick cover off and the whole mechanism is a small cube with a short metal post. it's hard to see into the cube at all. there's still the little bit of wiggling and the squeaking noise is coming from the up/down axis. I see no way to open the cube itself, it appears to be soldered to the board. 2 of the sides look like they might be made of plastic. I feels like something might be stuck in there and preventing the stick from centering fully and causing the noise. I'll have to see if I can find a way to open the cube housing the mechanisms. Thanks for the video and the advice! I'll have to see what else I can learn about this particular brand.
You cannot fix a drift with rubbing alcohol as you shown as the analog is under (potentiometer) so it is impossible to clean that way. You have to open your controller
Hey Onasazi, you are probably correct. The rubbing alcohol will clean any debris that could be causing stick drift, but if you are having mechanical problems then you are correct and will have to open it up.
Sorry about that. I would recommend opening it up to see if there is something broken or misplaced in the controller. You might be able to fix it if it isn't too far gone. Let me know if that works.
So I had a right stick drift bad and then a failure, where it wouldn't move at all. Tried alcohol to no avail... Ended up fixing by Pulling up on the joy stick and pushing back down on it...did this few times... then took a straw and bent flat n slid in groove arpund stick and blew air all around. WORKS LIKE NEW. Just some other tips to try before takin controller apart
Left stick drift on one controller and the left stick doesn't push in on thee other. The left stick drift is on my new controller. I'm thinking there's a pattern. Smh...
A wipe with cotton really? I was pouring cap fulls into mine, getting those trollers drunk! Good old isopropyl. Only helped fix sticking buttons though. Kids hands are so gross
rubbing alcoho is not a good idea. ive done this on two different types of controllers and it usually may work at first, but it tends to only make the drift worse. you can try it but i definitely dont recommend using rubbing alcohol
Thank you so much for your 1st 2 bits of advice that worked so much my controller the more I powered it on didn't start drifting or add goofy thank you again
BRO YOU SAVED ME. I was about to fix it the hard way aka yeeting it at wall or the floor. I mean it still works it's just it won't work after a couple of seconds lol
If you're dealing with real drift or off center this is probably the second worst troubleshooting video I have seen. I work on these professionally. The only video I saw that was worse was a guy that basically dumped rubbing alcohol on the non-working stick and let it dry! I've heard if you remove that clip it affects the click... any truth to that?
@@shanec4494 I haven’t heard that myself. But you never know. I think if you had to fix the drift and loose the click it might be worth it. Have you experienced it?
@@TryThisDIYFix not myself, just have read it in the YT comment section on a few different videos, which has made me hesitant to try it. So many games use the click now, especially for sprint.
@@shanec4494 yeah I hear ya. It’s your call. Try the other fixes before you remove the clip to see if those will fix it.
What if the left joystick is stuck and won't click, which means you can't sprint in games?
That was one of my big problems! This video should help.
bro idk why or how but i blew into the the stick and no more sticky aim

To simply not void warranty heat back stick with a hairdryer and peel it down . When done heat back up peel it back . Bam no poking holes . No different than removing stickers on things .
Hmmm that’s an interesting idea. Never thought of that.
Work fine for my two controller PowerA and Cheesha.
That’s awesome! Thanks for letting me know! Feel free to subscribe for more helpful videos. Thanks again.
Dude u are smacking ur lips way too much😂
Haha. My bad.
actually works , it was the alcohol for me
That’s awesome! I’m glad it helped!
THANK you so much. Got the left stick drifting up. This helped. Saved me 50-60 Euro for a new one.
Yes! That’s great. Thanks for letting me know. Feel free to subscribe for more helpful videos. Thanks
@@TheBattleRabbit860 hmmm. Yeah see what that box might hold. I think you can order new thumbsticks as well. Good luck!
@@TryThisDIYFix Thank you! If all else fails, it only cost $30 lol
@@TheBattleRabbit860 ha. Yeah I hear ya!
Well it worked but we'll see how long tho but great tip. I laughed so hard when it worked
That’s awesome! I’m glad it helped! Thanks for letting me know. Let me know how long it lasts.
😂😂😂 it lasted a whole two minutes.
@@tanyellburns7247 dang I’m sorry about that. Sometimes that happens. Mine has stayed fixed for a while but I do know some that won’t hold.
Thanks alot bro dont stop youtube you saved me a controller😭💀 with the deadzone fix! Subbed
You got it! Thanks for the encouragement as well! Glad it worked! You can subscribe for more videos if you’d like. Thanks again.
Uhm.... I threw mine at the wall bcoz of my ping and then the right stick started sticking to the right bottom corner every time I take it there
Sorry about that. I would recommend opening it up to see if there is something broken or misplaced in the controller. You might be able to fix it if it isn't too far gone. Let me know if that works.
I got so annoyed I just ripped it out the socket. So I don’t have a controller rn
Yikes! Sorry about that. You could try to fix it.
That’s a great idea thanks for letting me know! I appreciate that!
What. A scam controllers are huh
Yeah I wish it was more metal and less plastic.
Just ruined my pad not ur fault but just saying rn a ps5 is looking real good
Dang sorry about that. Yeah it’s always a rush when opening it up but if it was like mine and not working at all it’s worth it. Again sorry.
@@TryThisDIYFix np weren't u fault threw in bin ordered a new 1
@@zainhussain5461 I hear ya. Sometimes you have too.
my xbox one combat tech controller from 2018 i belive is not working properly left joystick has a massive delay or won’t work at all
Did you try this and or clean it? Try that and lmk if it worked. Also feel free to subscribe for more helpful videos.
Mine had a little tiny leaf inside of it
There you go! I’m glad it helped!
Does it work for wired controllers?
Yes it does!
Left stick drift on one controller and the left stick doesn't push in on thee other. The left stick drift is on my new controller. I'm thinking there's a pattern. Smh...
Yikes that stinks. Have you tried these fixes in the video? What game are you playing?
Test before complete reassembly
Yes. Good call.
A wipe with cotton really? I was pouring cap fulls into mine, getting those trollers drunk! Good old isopropyl. Only helped fix sticking buttons though. Kids hands are so gross
Hahaha. Nice. Yes you are right! I’m glad you got your to work though! Thanks for watching!
Spent 60$ on a controller and I can’t get my money back. 😂
Dang that stinks. Have you tried some of these fixes?
rubbing alcoho is not a good idea. ive done this on two different types of controllers and it usually may work at first, but it tends to only make the drift worse. you can try it but i definitely dont recommend using rubbing alcohol
Thank you Sketchbandit. I appreciate the input.
Im going to see if this works but u just got a new sub ur so underated man. Thanks man
Awesome! Thank you! I hope it works!
@Dyix 👍 Yes i did work but sometimes it drifts so do it about every 1 hour
Thank you so much for your 1st 2 bits of advice that worked so much my controller the more I powered it on didn't start drifting or add goofy thank you again

Never mind this is kinda good
Ha! I’m glad it helped!
Would hydrogen peroxide work
I’ve seen a lot of people ask, I’m not sure about that. I’d go w rubbing alcohol if possible. Thanks for watching. Lmk if it works.
If you're dealing with real drift or off center this is probably the second worst troubleshooting video I have seen. I work on these professionally. The only video I saw that was worse was a guy that basically dumped rubbing alcohol on the non-working stick and let it dry! Not a not a solution for any model of Xbox One controller: 1537, 1697/1698(Elite), Xbox One S/X (1708/1913) or Series S/X (1913) Nice try though.
Thanks for the comment.
so you got any tips or links to good tutorials? Like if your going to say something is bad you have to know some better ways.
Does Hydrogen peroxide work
I’m not sure. I’ve never used that one. I’d recommend trying to find some rubbing alcohol.
