  • It’s back! Mileage update and repair bill update. Added upper control arms and a new pinion seal. Almost at 230k!
    Update: just crossed 227k miles. Far as I can tell internals are good to go.

I absolutely love the truck but the constant overheating issues and money spent tracking down the culprit is wearing me out. Have any of y’all ever experienced similar issues? From what I understand from online and RUclips it’s an issue with these trucks.

    I bought a 19 3.5 February 2023,40k on it, at 41k tranny issues, several visits back until 1day at 80mph dropped from 10th to 1st!! By by transmission, 1 week later with the truck on the lift with old tranny out, i was told transmission is on back order 45days+, they allowed me to trade it in and they made everything so I didn’t loose down payment or negative equity, purchased a 2020. 3.5 with 45k on it , 13 hrs after i drove it off the lot iwe’s or whatever they’re called went bad screeching, banging from the front wheels! I have 100k warranty on it, after that I can’t wait to dump this thing and go get a tundra or titan, sure ill loose money on extra gas but at least ill have a truck i know will last 2-300k plus miles without falling apart or having things go out all the time!

    I'm at 150k but I change my diff fluid every 50k miles, same with all of the gear oils and transmission. Engine oil every 5k with mobile 1 synthetic. I also just flushed the coolant for the first time at 150k miles and 10 years of ownership. Biggest issue I've had is the sunroof which cost me $2k. I will never have another vehicle with a sunroof.

      King Ranch for sure, but I’ve always loved that trim package. Be careful though because in my experience the higher the trim the more potential issues via electrical problems can pop up. I’ve had two Lariats and both had their severe issues while my XLT had virtually none. Just my theory on the matter but a KR at 140k being a 2016 I’d buy in a heartbeat. I’d go 16 over 15 because 15 is the new body year and may have some underlying bugs not worked out

    • @jsc2395
      @jsc2395  Год назад +8

      Keep that ‘14 lol. Man I tell you this early model ‘12 has been a nightmare (every bug imaginable has come up and then some). From turbos, to coolant lines, to flex plates (flywheels), to starters, to pinion seals, to transfer cases, batteries, headlights, even the steering wheel volume/skip controls now.
      It’s a “good” truck, never quit on me. It’s not a lemon it’s more like a grapefruit. Won’t quit but it costs you a lot getting there.
      Keeping that 14 means you’ve got a lot of those bugs worked out. Upgraded billets, turbos, lines and gear ratios. Better dash equipment too (electronics). 153k ain’t nothing for these trucks!
      Brother, oil changes like a religious man attends church on Sunday’s. Never skip this and always do it BEFORE it reaches 45%. These high pressure turbo systems abuse oil so it needs good fresh oil 24/7.
      Every 50k miles check all fluids from rear diff to transfer case to transmission. I think that’s why this truck still runs despite all its efforts not to. I keep up on general maintenance religiously. Thanks for watching bro!

    Mine is a '11 with 140k. Only problem so far is hard shift into 2nd when cold. When should I change Tranny Fluid and filter? Should I flush it first? Thanks. PS. I restored a 1971 F250 w/ 390.

    • @Xabier2.0
      @Xabier2.0 Год назад

      I replaced my valve body and that got rid of my hard shift to 2nd. Transgo makes a shift kit for the 6R80 valve body. But hard shift is caused by wear in accumulator valve. I drain and fill with new filter every 30-35k miles on transmission.

    • @jsc2395
      @jsc2395  Год назад

      Trans and diff fluids I’d run every 50k-75k, if you’re at 140k now and never done it yourself yet, I would just to be safe. These machines live or die by the fluid so religious changing is essential.
      That shift is likely nothing, same issue with my truck, never had a trans drop or anything like that

      @jsc2395  Год назад

      Shoot brotha I’m not sure. If you want it as a reliable commuter or something then I’d say no. Two things: it’s well over 13 years old and it’s way over 250k miles… unless God himself has blessed this truck you’re looking at turbo replacements, pumps, etc at around 300k miles almost for certain.
      However, there’s guys on here commenting their trucks getting 200k-300k and literally zero issues.
      If your heart is set on it I would not pay a dime over $8k for it. I’d also get it completely looked at by a trusted mechanic or just pay a local shop to inspect it first. Good luck man!

    Keep your fluids changed at their correct intervals and buy good filters. These new engines variable valve timing must not get sludge buildup in them. I stick with motorcraft oil and filters,but with the oil it's the rating and weight that count,not the brand. Stick with either manufacturers filters like motorcraft or wix,napa gold,puralator. Never buy fram,walmart,or the like. These trucks are built for the long haul

    • @kenj.8897
      @kenj.8897 Год назад

      Motorcraft filters have poor micron ratings , why shouldn't they it's a $3.75 filter . Why would anyone use a semi synthetic oil today when full synthetic is available for 2 bucks more . Same with Motorcraft air filters, Wix has a better rating .

    • @ciphercode2298
      @ciphercode2298 Год назад

      @@kenj.8897 Use what ya want friend. The wix,puralator,and napa all have better filtration. I've logged several hundred thousand miles on my fords using oem filters without an engine failure. As far as oil goes I've used full synthetic in other engines,but honestly if you stick to your maintenance schedule theres no benefit to it. If it makes you feel superior then carry on doing so. Like i said,just dont use fram,walmart,or the other cheap pieces of crap. Use the proper rating of oil for your engine under the circumstances you're in.

    • @jsc2395
      @jsc2395  Год назад +1

      Most definitely brother, I swapped ALL O2 sensors out ($900) because I threw that Bank 1&2 code. The rear sensors don’t mean much but you definitely want to swap your fronts because they analyze fuel/air ratio. You run her too hot or cold and you’ll have worse problems down the line (if it’s truly a fuel/air ratio issue)
      Long story short no issue since replacing sensors. No more codes or lights (yet) and I’m not running anything too hot/cold ratio wise. Fuel consumption is normal and air intake is spec.
