To everyone who enjoyed Geebz reacting to this song, remember...he did it all for you.
I see what you did there...😁
"Ooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaah!"
Good one!!!
I did it all for the nookie
It's not like he killed someone..
Imagine being a 12 year old in the year 2000- You're into metal and your favorite bands are Deftones and TOOL. 7th grade is almost over and the summer is coming up. You're sick of all the nu-metal clones and need some exciting new music. You put on KROQ in the morning one day and you hear "Judith" playing on the way to school. You had no idea Maynard had a side-project! You get the album and fall in love. The next month, your favorite band Deftones releases WHITE PONY and flips the script on modern metal. You're cruising at night with your older brother, listening to the album for the first time and then "Passenger" comes on.... I can remember the "cool night air" from that night like it was yesterday. A little less than a year passes by and TOOL releases LATERALUS a week before your birthday. What a time to be alive.
Imagine reading this and realizing you were 12 in 1980 and thinking, holy crap I'm getting old! Great post man. Hey, at least I'm still rocking.
I was 15 in 2000 and man I can totally remember hearing Passenger for the first time. Such a vividly strong atmosphere they created. You really did feel like you were in a car at night. To this day it has remained a top ten favorite song of mine ❤️
I think I was just 18 when White Pony (Kid A) came out. I already loved the first two (three) albums. A golden age.
17 in 2000. bought. every. album.
had goosebumps allover while reading this, I could also add some Soulfly to the 00's soundtrack
The bassist tying her hair up and then flawlessly coming back in on beat was the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen. It only adds to the level of quality in the band
Oop, I commented the same before I made it down far enough to see it had already been said! And the close-up on the heels?? Royalty.
I've watched this vid multiple times over the years and just finally caught that. AGREED!
Bro, you said it. watching that finally got me a threesome cause my partner was so turned on by it she had to have a have a woman after that
Pez is class, a.
David Fincher for u
Fun fact: this music video was directed by David Fincher, the Oscar-winning director of Se7en, Fight Club, Panic Room, and The Social Network.
Holy shit, no wonder it's so fucking awesome. That bit where she ties up her hair JUST in time to start playing again blew my mind
That explains the cue mark.
Seems pro.
Fincher has never won an Oscar, only nominated. :(
wow
The Paz hair tie in the middle of the song is legendary
For whatever reason, that part really gets me
You have no choice but to watch, and in your head tell her to hurry up.
It's a visual drum fill.
Paz is one of a kind.
She actually couldn't do it in enough time for the next section so they had to speed up the video to match the music
"That was a huuuuge note".
The Grudge would like to have a word with you.
The Grudge!!! Yes that note tops this one in Judith.
Yeah, imagine enjoying Maynard's voice this much without yet having heard that scream from 'The Grudge'.
It's going to be pretty rad seeing him do that review. Seeing people react and get into Tool is way more fun that I thought it would ever be.
About a time he reacted to The Grudge, the best TOOL song.
Came here to say this 😂😂😂
yup 26 seconds long scream in The Grudge.
“The Noose” by A Perfect Circle, would be another gem..
Oh man... The Noose is my all time favorite song! Glad to see I'm not the only one lol. Great recommendation
@@mbutmunch6 I agree. From all the songs ever, "the Noose" - it's a pure absolute beauty of this world.
The Noose and Passive are both amazing. Disillusioned on their new album is reaaaaaly good.
I totally agree on that.
The Noose is the first track I listened to, and instantly fell in love with APC.
Also.. In time, it would be interesting to check out Maynard 3rd project - Puscifer 😁😊
I listen to the first three songs of that album on repeat. Sometimes I'll just listen to The Noose over and over as well.
The sad thing about this is no one gives Billy ANY credit for his composing skill.
Ashes divide is proof
People don't know it well enough to know that most of it is his work. Maynard did contribute more musically on Thirteenth Step but this album is almost 100% Billy, even some vocal melodies, but Maynard wrote lyrics and tweaked it. And ofc, sung it expertly. This might be why it's a good choice to watch the Live At Red Rocks for The Outsider. You get to see Billy uncontrollably rock his ass off.
100%... I’ve always known him to the be the main creative force behind APC. Most just latch onto to the fact that the band’s fronted by MJK...
@@braindedpxl APC is owned by Billy and Maynard. They signed the checks. That's why they stay in it and the other members come and go. Maynard doesn't play instruments, so he entrusts arrangement and composition to his fellow musicians, but he still has an entire career of musical experience, so since Thirteenth Step (their second album) he became more influential in what ideas got approved and how Billy went about composing it. But Billy is the composer, fundamentally. The vocals for Mer De Noms (first album) were mostly decided by him, but on the later ones he said he would often be surprised at the way Maynard chose to arrange his vocals on the songs.
Who's Billy?
Not a side project, but a collaboration with DEFTONES FT MAYNARD: "Passenger" is another must. Tool fans always still here.
Vote this sooooo much
Add Deftones - Rosemary and You've Seen the Butcher.
Passenger pls
Yes yes yes. Geebz will LOVE Passenger. The vocals alone on that track are hauntingly beautiful from both Chino and Maynard.
And then Digital Bath, naturally.
That moment at 9:02 when Maynard holds the scream and then Billy and Paz come in and haromize the scream is the peak moment of the song for me. Just a wall of power and emotion after all that relentless drive in the song leading to it. Top 3 APC song for me.
You have to hear the "Live@France" live performance. It almost sounds even better there, because he does the scream perfectly pitched, sustains it all the way to the "ohhhh" at the end, and the way Billy compliments it sounds really good there. There's a slight crack right before it calms down, where Maynard's vocal goes up one half-step and then back again, but it almost sounds intentional and it gives it an extra bit of tension. Billy also plays the slide in a new variation in the second chorus that adds to the emotion.
Yes
All of the songs where Maynard is singing about his mother are POWERFUL...He puts so much into these songs, and collectively they're some of the best music I've ever experienced. It's a chapel he built to Judith Marie. She will live forever in these songs.
I find this part especially touching:
"Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance, Burden of proof tossed upon the believers. *You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence*, Judith Marie, unconditional one."
When Billy and Paz come back in on the sustain of the last "did it all for you" with Maynard: "chicken skin"!
Tool - Right In Two. There’s a section in this where Tool go epic that literally throws you a sonic boomerang that you feel/experience going around your brain that at its halfway point is in the distance then comes back around picking up sonic traction until it comes aggressively full circle. And you’d better catch that boomerang ‘cause it could also hit you. So good. You’ll dig it.
I've been hoping to see this title every time I see his posts. Please!
ya ya ya!!
Yup, have to do Right In Two ❤
@@d.hodgsky I will post a reminder for him with every video he puts out. IT WILL HAPPEN!
I love the tabla in this song
"I'm still here", and suggesting another two-fer of Parabol and Parabola from Lateralus.
Seconded
Thirded!
Fourthed!
Fifthed?
The motion carries
I saw this guy’s first reaction video where he said “this will probably be my only reaction video” and it was TOOL Sober live and got me laughing. Then he starts talking about how important the drums and the guitars are and he’s by far the most legit reaction person on RUclips. Love this dude.
That bass really fills the space. When it drops out, it leaves you feeling empty but it doesn't overpower the track when it's there.
Justin is epic, and like most players who don't sing, is completely underrated for what he brings to the band.
Maynard's scream on the outro on the grudge makes every singer jealous.
While great, I think Chester Bennington's "Given Up" scream takes no prisoners either.
Definitely good. Not sure about every singer being jealous but i get the idea.
@@CybrSlydr Great joke. I haven't laughed so much for a long time
“Can’t do this if you smoke.”
@@fantastron for real, the live version is pretty sick. It's gotta be a 20 or 30 second long scream? (From memory)
Orestes would be another good one from APC. Incredible vocal harmonies and billy does some interesting stuff with his guitar and the production.
My fav APC song. Highly recommend.
Live from Red Rocks kills!! Better than the album version
YES, it is a whole different experience, like push it salival live. Just when you think it couldn't be better it hits you
Second for Orestes my favorite off Mer De Noms
Amazing song
Once you know the story behind this song it makes it even more moving.
could someone please explain to me how is it possible that every time, EVERY TIME I listen to this song I get goose bumps! The song, video, lyrics.. what a masterpiece
That's what I call it. It's a musical masterpiece.
It conveys frustration & heartbreak all at once. You can "feel" it.
The Outsider is another great tune by APC. The live version on Leno is a great one.
Maynard smashed that performance.
@@stevenmackintosh8160 He made the chorus sound even better than on the record, but you can't miss the climax of the song the way it was recorded.
I agree, The Outsider is probably my favorite APC song.
Dont fool him, Red Rocks live is way better, maybe you haven’t seen it. If so you will thank me later I hope.
@@ToniLivo The recording quality on live-performances is best if you look at the one from the Official APC RUclips channel but it's from 2013 and Maynard's voice isn't as fierce as it was from the 90s to the early 2000s. It's still good but you can hear he's struggling with the higher notes, and it's one of the reasons he tends to sing in lower keys on newer music.
The entire TOOL army is still here. Believe me.
Yes we are indeed
Yup, still here even though I prefer Puscifer and Tool.
Best band ever.
Someone called me?...checking in.
Yes, ma'am. We are...
Judith is Maynard mother. She was a believer while being severely ill. Maynard didn't get it. Felt like God had abandoned her. He's angry at her growing faith in a God not there.
True, felt like God abandoned her
@@bazookallamaproductions5280 Push on through man.
I might not remember every detail correctly and this is a complex story but according to what I read the song is like a prequel to "Wings for Marie" double track. Maynard's mother Judith married a man who brought the family into a Christian fundamentalist cult. While Judith was getting sick to the point of not being able to move nor speak, the self-entitled, hypocrite, judgemental members of the cult kept on saying that her sickness was evidence of a punishment for her sins, even though she was a genuine good person and believer. That behaviour is what triggered young Maynard's rebellion to the cult and made him despise organized religion in general. He understood they were full of shit but in some way he was also angry with his mother for keeping her faith in God without questioning. This is why he wrote "Judith". After some time he wrote "Wings for Marie" because growing up he understood that his mother's faith was not to blame but the abusive cult who tried to weaponize it against her and everyone who did not take their bullshit. I summed it up and my English isn't perfect, so I hope what I wrote makes sense. 😅
Way off ruclips.net/video/YU0BrwlWNTk/видео.html
@@bazookallamaproductions5280 Hey man. I am glad you made it through. No one deserves to feel like they are a mistake, or not right, or not wanted. While you quote leviticus, remember, the 'good book' also says that god doesn't make mistakes. While I am not a believer myself, If that is the case, then you were truly meant to be here. Maybe BEACUSE you endured the suffering, and everything you went through, it had made you who you are now, and you are better for it. I truly commend you for your courage, and putting yourself in a place to help others down from the ledge. You are a legendary human. So you go, and you do you. Make sure you do it in spite of what that book says.
I've been around for a while (born in the late 60s) and I consider this one of the best songs ever recorded. The production is also really stunning.
Greetings from Poland!
I'm steel waiting for "The Grudge" reaction ;)

Goddamn, Josh Freese is just an absolute monster behind that kit. Those snare hits to start this song just makes my hair stand on my neck
I saw APC in 04’ and he played a set with a broken leg. Lol literally didn’t miss a beat.
saw him live a couple times with NIN. He is just a force, one of my favorites
I believe that is Tim Alexander on the 1 st album
@@jd-si5us not this track. Think he only played on The Hollow...
@@krautmickfriend thanks brother! Always down to learn
Mer de Noms is 100% one of the best sounding albums of all time. It’s my go to album when I get a new set of headphones or need to eq a new set of speakers
This has to be one of my favorite top five songs of all time, also probably the one of the most sacrilegious songs I have ever heard. His poor mother. Saw them open for NIN and still believe their set blew away Trent.
Or a very human song.
It's been almost 21 years since this came out and it still gives me goosebumps.
Check out Weak and Powerless by APC.
I'm still here.
Weak and Powerless might be their best after Judith. Or maybe Orestes. Or maybe The Noose. Man, so much great APC music.
I watch a lot of react channels and your channel is one of the best I've seen, as a sound engineer myself you've enlightened me on TONS of different techniques used in songs that I've been listening to for years, Great work and I hope your at 100K subs within the next few months.
The power and emotion in Maynards voice clearly comes from the story behind the lyrics, about his mother, Judith. Incredible song.
Any verse in the Bible can be defended with logic and context, while no verse can be shown to be good in the Quran with logic and context. Allah is the most damned entity of the ancient Hebrew Bible. How interesting that Yahweh would know Allah is the cause of all trouble.
Now imagine a woman praying for her son to be saved and the jury is still out. I wonder if God is faithful to remove a heart of stone and replace it with a heart of flesh. Read Revelation 11:7-15 and know the day when Jews and Christians will rise from the dead in the millions making the Muslims wonder if they really did wipe Israel off the map and if they really will be able to keep Palestine whole.

The passion in this song hits me every time!
The first time I heard this song, I was in highschool and very much Catholic. I felt such a blend of confrontation and empathy, which has been a blessing as I converted to evangelical christianity, and now sitting somewhere between agnosticism and atheism this song has been a beautiful comfort. In my stupid idealism, I ignored the unanswered questions and kept running forward because that's how salvation works, right? The reality is, the truth is a bitter fruit. Thank you for this. I really needed to dig back into this song again tonight
felt this brother.
I was literally just thinking while watching the vid earlier, I'm not an atheist, but i have *questions!* 😆 I was raised Baptist in KY. Never been big on religion. Nowadays I'm somewhere between Christian & agnostic. I rarely pray & never go to church. But i do still pray when I feel it's needed lol. If that makes sense.
Most of my fav creators are usually atheist. Altho, I LOVE Coke Studio Pakistan!!! Omg, pls check them out. Rohail Hyatt is a master producer. I looove Sufi songs & my fav singer is actually Sanam Marvi, a Sufi folk singer. "Khabaram Raseeda Imshab" was also my most listened to song while pregnant recently. Pls listen to it!! 🙏🏻
Anyway, I used to get a kick when I was a teenager, to listen to TOOL or APC in the car with my uber religious mom. 😆 Bc it's hard to understand the lyrics, she had no idea I was listening to "blasphemous" music lmaoo. Good times. I was around 14 then. I'm 36 now & these bands are still BANGERS!
Happy I came across this vid & got to read all of your wonderful, relatable stories! Stay blessed - whether by God or the universe - & always keep rocking 🎸🎶🎶
Geebz, “Right In Two” has to be your next Tool song.
Absolutely!!!! After that he needs to see the cover by the guys in India. They kill it with their harmonies.
@@I_NeedCoffee I honestly prefer the version of the two Indian guys on a rooftop doing it tbh.
It needs to be done in combination with "Intension", though.
@@I_NeedCoffee that honestly has to be my favorite Tool cover
geebz need to do all tool songs
Billy Howerdel is the backup vocals and plays guitar. He has a side project, Ashes Divide. James Iha is another guitarist, and he's originally from The Smashing Pumpkins.
Music video director David Fincher created one of the most VISCERAL depictions of a rock band making music that has ever existed. It was the perfect collaberation for A Perfect Circle, which was a group that was entirely about making a perfect representation of music creation
This is also one of the greatest music videos ever, because of course: David Fincher
that's the guy who directed Se7en right?
I didn't know that
@@lopolik Correct. He started of directing a lot of music videos including several for Madonna, and one of my all time favorites "Freedom '90" by the late George Michael. He's done some other excellent movies to including The Game and Fight Club. A lot of his movies have a very dark, dingy feel to them.
Did not know. Thanks
@@ajhieb hell yeah Fight Club one of the best movies of all time. The Game was also awesome.
"When the leeve breaks - Live at Red Rocks" One of the highest levels of craftsmanship achieved by A Perfect Circle.
If you ever have a mind for that song, you're up for a ride.
That is an amazing cover
I saw them live with the Paz lineup in a small auditorium in Pensacola, Florida. It was legendary. It was like a month after this track hit. One of the best shows ever.
You freaking nailed it about that end note "breaking you free". Love your work mate. Don't leave. You are what this community needs. Much love.
Thanks, Josh :)
21 years later, and I STILL get goosebumps (that's what I grew up calling 'chucken skin') every single time when Billy and Paz come in on that final chorus. Such an amazing moment.
This guy experiences music on such a different level than me. So jealous!
It's the headphones. Lol. ✌
It always amazes me that you are capable of completely analyzing a song but still feel the humanity in it.
This song hit hard when it came out! Really like when they do the back vocals at the end while Manard screams for days!
18 year old me seeing paz putting her hair up between verses did things to me. Not to be crass, lol!
Same......absolutely same.

Cannot wait for you to hear the resonance and vocal range on “Orestes”!
I've listened to APC a million times but seeing someone hear them for the first times gives me a new appreciation for them
Really like the comment regarding the vocal line resolution and the comparison to ‘Jeremy’ is spot on👌🏽it really is like bringing the melody out from the dark, melancholic intensity in to the light, relief and even hope- love it! Such an intense and deeply emotional song-I’ve just been playing it on repeat for the past week or so, for the first time since my obsession with it when released -Maynard is on another genius-type level, the whole band are primo musicians imo-Great reaction, thanks!🙏🏼
a perfect circle + David Fincher = cool as hell.
One last song Maynard wrote about his mother so you can finish the trilogy, so to say. Puscifer's "Horizons." It's absolutely beautiful.
Huh, I've enjoyed that song for a few years but somehow never knew it was also about his mother. I've always just imagined it being about a close friend who died suddenly
That song also has some beautiful string arrangements, which I'm sure Key of Geebz would love hearing ;-)
@@sarahm4669 If I recall correctly, it's written about the moment he spread his mother's ashes on the portion of his vineyard where he was going to grow the grapes that would become the wine he named after her.

I haven't heard this song in well over ten years but I still couldn't pass the Don't Let it Make You Cry test....not sure of it's true meaning but seems Maynard's heart wrenching emoting is for a loved ones own pain? Ugh so so tear inducing beautiful....love that you have tool to compare the production and playing to, great contrast, great insights....still here...
When I saw them in concert in the early 2000s they played this song last and Maynard sang that last note all the way to the end of the song. Everyone leapt to their feet and we all erupted into a huge army of excitement and wonderment. Everyone was looking around like, "are you hearing this like I'm hearing this"? It was to this day one of the most memorable concert experiences I've ever been apart of. This was in New Orleans for anyone that may have seen this and can confirm how ridiculous it was.
Mike Patton has an interesting musical range. Death metal to circus music, and anything/everything betwixt.
Mike Patton is one of my favorite vocalist and you are right the mans range of styles is very diverse.Everything from mondo cane, loveage, tomahawk, and so many others.

Need to go back and check out the Tool song "Jimmy"...Completes a story arc re: Maynard and his mother...
He already said he's not analyzing any lyrics in these reactions
Jimmy is what his dad called him and H is about his dad and the trio is prison sex,H, jimmy.source live shows from 96 to 98 he says this.
@Big Homie Steve The Metal Head I agree. My take on it was it sounds like a elevator.
@@blindmelonlemonjello This is the first Im hearing of this....I have ALWAYS thought that H, Jimmy, and 46&2 were a secret trilogy based around Jungian psychology (that Aenema) is dripping with. In H he is looking at the damage his father caused and how that could manifest itself on his own son...on Jimmy he is going back to find his 11 year old self (the source of the trauma) and help/heal him/himself. In 46&2 he is doing shadow work to work through these parts of himself to become sane/human/more. Of course, there is a lot more to this, but that's always been my head canon. Would love to know more about the link with Prison Sex or those onstage explanations from 96-98. Until then, I guess I will sleuth around and check for myself.
@@Gekokujo76 you are right. Listen to the basically any live from 98 tour he peppers in bits of information about some meanings it's when he's dressed as the reverand. Also some later 96 tour he says some things about the songs that are tied together he says H and Jimmy and prison sex are live songs of "sorts"

The opening track from Mer De Noms THE HOLLOW is still the first song I listen to when trying out new ear cans. The production on that track is perfect. Definitely worth the listen for the sound engineering alone.
It was a 20 minute piece when it all started, would give a limb to listen to it
Josh Freese's drums sound GLORIOUS.
Paz on bass is just sexy. Can't hide it. She was incredible and it's sad they went they separate ways. The ponytail part in the video is always mentioned by so many fans! I got excited that you noticed it too! Yes! Right on time too! Just badass!
Gravity... A Perfect Circle. Saved my life.
Thanks, Geebz. Love your videos, man. Your channel is a daily must check for new content. I appreciate the the time you take to make these and the depth of your reviews.
The guitarist Billy Howerdel at one time worked as Adam Jone's guitar tech on the Anema tour
Billy and Adam's playing styles are very fun to compare too. Billy writes more harmonically advanced pieces on guitar but Adam Jones has an almost complete tightness to the way he performs their riffs, as if he just played them 100k times and can't make a mistake. Billy can't control himself when they do live performances whenever he gets to the epic parts and he still plays it incredible but he's not nearly as concerned with pitch-perfect performance if he can jump around and do huge upstrokes for pure flair. I really like how their composition styles differ and what it brings out of each project.
The lineup changed for the band. This was their first lineup pretty much. Troy in there is insane too. Huge fan of his work with Queens of the Stone Age.
The music itself is often produced and recorded by only Maynard and Billy, and the others are more there for the live performance. Granted they're older now, but man I would love to see a modern APC concert with Paz and Troy in it. No offense to Iha or the new replacements but Troy was uniquely talented with his style and power, and Paz is such a multitalent. She really added to the atmosphere of their live shows by having great backup vocals. And that's something Maynard has really focused on with Puscifer. He almost always uses a female co-singer.
Ice Kold Killa Ooooh lets request a review of a QOTSA song!! Now what song? 🤔🤓
Definitely still here! Thank you for all the entertainment and insight!
Loopove the perfectly description of everything. Looooove it
Anybody else lust after the bassist? When she ties her hair back during the bridge makes me go all wibbly, every time.
Melissa Auf Der Maur. she's a luscious beast, so talented, so sexy. She played with Hole for a bit too
@@trevorvaughan8100 Guess again. That's Paz Lenchantin, currently playing with Pixies, formerly of Zwan and The Entrance Band.
@@squaddie67 Thank you for correcting. Paz is wonderful
Meant to add this to Wings for Marie comments, but checkout Tool's cover of Led Zepplin's "No Quarter"
You’ve very quickly become my favorite YT channel. Love your reviews! 💕
Heard him hit that note twice live, wonderful
Passive is a great one!!
DO THE HOLY TRINITY! DISPOSITION. REFLECTION. TRIAD.
Loved this! I am a huge APC fan and is always nice to see someone first reaction to their music, so much more if it is a prof. Composer so thanks that was fun!
Still here man! Thanks for the great commentary. I don't think there's a single video I've skipped out on early
When you gave the chicken skin sign it's like you instantly transmitted it to me. I'm a huge fan of APC so I've listened to it all a million times but I still love this song. The lyrics are just savage yet filled with emotion and you can understand where his mind was at. What he saw her deal with and yet still believe. 10,000 days in fire is long enough. It was time for her to go home.
One song you'll definitely love by them that shows off Maynard's voice as well is "The Package"

I'm still here! Loving the reaction to an oldie but goodie!! One of my favs!
Mornin Geebz! Still here to ask for adding this to your composting bin: "How the Jellyfish Jumped up the Mountain" by Shpongle
Video for "Judith" was directed by David Fincher.
I'm still here for sure. Awesome to see someone with a musical background and knowledge appreciate and breakdown Judith. Thank you for the video!
Just arrived but loved the breakdown. Wouldn’t mind a bit longer on the breakdowns either. I’m always impressed by people who can intricately pull something apart.
